Copy link INODE

I want to copy the inode, not the file itself. In Linux, there is a switch for the copy command -l. So to copy a file INODE only, I type "cp -l file-orig file-copy". The copy file only has a pointer to the old file; it is not a second opy. I cannot find this in Apple Linux. Can anyone help me with tihs command? Thank you! - Andy

Well Mac OS X is a certified UNIX® distribution all its own.
Its origin is FreeBSD with a MACH microkernel. Because of the GPL version 3 license (a very virual and unfriendly to business license), Apple has been avoiding many of the Open Source, GNU, Free Software Foundation, Linux utilities, as taking some of them would require Apple to give away all its software (I'm sure there are people that would love that), but Apple has had very bad experiences with allowing its software to be used by 3rd party companies (the mid-90's come to mine when Apple almost went out of business, and there is no Steve Jobs to save it next time around).
However, if you wish to install Open Source packages, you are free to do that on your own.
First install XCode (you can download that from the App store), that will give you the compilers and developer tools. Then you can download the Open Source packages and install them in /usr/local/bin.
An alternative is to use MacPorts.org or Fink.sf.net, both of which have ported many of the Open Source packages to Mac OS X.
I will warn you that it is unwise to actually replace a Mac OS X command or utility as you may break Mac OS X maintenance scripts. Better to put your commands and utilities into /usr/local/bin, or MacPorts put them under /opt/local, and Fink puts them under /sw. You then setup your PATH to select your perferred commands when you are using a Terminal session.
With respect to backup, you may also want to look at a packages such as rsnapshot.org, which uses rsync to create incremental backups across the network, in hourly, daily, weekly, monthy, etc..., plus manage the backups, a lot like Time Machine. And similar to Time Machine it will make each backup look like a full backup, but in reality if the files are identical it using a Unix Hardlink so only 1 real unique file exists in the backups, and only breaks the link if the file is different from the previous copy.
With respect to rsync, if you want the latest and greated rsync ported to Mac OS X, you download a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner, and dig into the package to get its version of rsync. CCC almost always has the lastest most up to date rsync for Mac OS X. And CCC is a good backup utility in its own right.
And with respct to using Mac OS X for Unix development, I work with Linux, AIX, Solaris, and Windows from my Mac developing kernel level file system code. And in the past I've also used my Mac working with Tru64 UNIX and HP-UX. I've found Mac OS X to be a very good platform for what I do, and after you have tried to deal with 5 totally different Unix flavors, you find that Mac OS X as the 6th flavor is not all that different from the others.
However, if your world is totally Linux based and you cannot stand the Mac OS X Unix side, then you can always run a virtual machine with Linux in it (VMware Fusion, Parallels, VirtualBox), and do your development under Linux, or setup your Mac for dual boot with a Linux alternate boot, or just wipe out Mac OS X and install a Linux distrubution on your Mac hardware.

You need to click on the price, not the downward pointing arrow next to them, that should allow you to buy them - the 'buy all' button that used to be on the wish list screen has, for some reason, been removed from the current version of iTunes, so you can only buy items individually

Can you please tell me how to edit the right-click menu in Firefox or Seamonkey (my second favourite browser), as I am constantly clicking on 'send link' instead of 'copy link location'.

I am using a download manager (of sorts), Getbot, and it picks up the 'copy link location' to download anything. The problem I have, as I already put in my question results in the wrong item being clicked upon and my e-mail client (Thunderbird) gets started. I ahve used other browsers as well (Google Chrome, Opera, Safari) with the same or similar results. I try to steer clear of any version of IE if I can!!
You've probably heard of the saying 'I wish I had ten dollars every time that happened'? Well I am in the same boat, I would never have to work another day for the rest of my life if that was possible.
Is there a text file to edit, or perhaps a Registry entry to adjust (I'm quite comfortable doing either).

How to copy link text from links?

Currently when selecting a link, there is no easy option to copy link text. This feature should be implemented to be one of the options in the popup menu once a link is selected, alongside with "Open Link in New Tab"; "Copy Link"; !"Copy Link Text"!; "Share Link"; "Bookmark Link".
This menu option will provide a convenient way to browse through search results and other various links and will add to the efficiency of navigation of web pages.

Hi eva88, are you copying from a webpage or from the address bar? If you copy a link from a webpage, Gmail should pick up the HTML as is from the original. But when you copy from the address bar, you need to take the extra step of using the "link" button in Gmail. Due to changes in the Gmail UI, this may be harder to find, but for me, it appears when mousing over the lower part of the compose box. I've attached a series of screen shots showing where I see it.

InDesign Packaging "Can't copy links"

What would be possible causes of the "Can't copy links" error when trying to package in InDesign 7.0.4 on Windows 7. The links are located on various network drives. This setup has worked for many years but we recently moved our entire file structure from an aging Windows server to a new Network Attached Storage device. It's obvious that is the cause of the trouble but I've exhausted my knowledge.
What I've done so far:
Double and triple checked the permissions on the NAS (I have all read/write permissions)
Packaging old and new documents
Copying all links to a new location using that function in the Links panel (same error occurs)
My only solution so far has been to embed all the links, package the file, then unembed them into the links folder in the packaged folder. Not a great solution considering how it takes about 30 minutes to copy the necessary ~1GB of links twice.'

What to do if there is no option to copy link location

My laptop harddrive crash had to get new harddrive when they loaded it and updated it they updated to Internet Explorer 8.
When I right click to copy the option to "Copy Link Location" is not there. Now I can not send link but for some reason earlier in the day I had the option now I don't again. Please help with this.

SAP provide some hooks to add our code to the standard program. This is what we called enhancement.
It has following types:
1. Personalization ( here the fields can be hide, display only etc. )
2. Customer Exit ( Function module Exit, Menu Exit and Screen Exit )
3. BTE
4. BADI( Function module Exit, Menu Exit and Screen Exit )
5. User Exit
Suppose all these are not helpful, then you could create the code from scratch. But it is too difficult to develop because of its complexity.
So what you can do is get SAP access key and change the code in the standard program. This is called as modification. Advantage of Enhancement and modification is whenever there is a new version come the changes made by us in standard code will be attached in the newer version also.
The final way is copy the source code into customer namespace and make changes according to your criteria. Eg. in the standard PO creation if you do like this, several disadvantages are the user has to give a new t.code, BASIS guy has to restrict the standard PO create T.code and you can't avail the new features of future versions.

What you want to do is already possible to do. If you find an app while surfing the web that you are considering downloading, and you tap on the link for that app, it should open in the App Store. You can then add it to your Wish List in the App Store and download it later if you so desire. You can build a whole list of apps for downloading later.
When the app description window is open in the App Store, tap the action icon - the upward pointing arrow inside the square - and select Add to Wish List. You can come backs later to the wish list, select the app and download it when you are ready. To access the Wish List, tap the 3 horizontal lines next to the search field in the upper right corner of the App Store.
Just keep keep adding apps to the wish list as you find ones that you like.

"Copy link address" missing in BB browser

After I've upgraded my Torch 9810 to OS 7.0.0.474, the feature to "copy link address" in browser is no longer available. It's missing in the menu and it's also missing when I click and hold over a hyperlink.
The only way how I can copy a link is to open it and copy its address from the address field when the page loads. This is a big problem for me because a lot of webpages nowadays will send me to their mobile version without the option to go back to the full desktop site. I need to be able to copy and email the original hyperlink, not the link optimized for mobile browsers.
Another reason I need this feature is because I travel often and I use google to search for kml files (transport information, local information...) of the area and then open it in maps application. I can't do this now. I can't copy the link to the kml file and when I click on it to open it in browser, it offers me to download the file as it cannot be viewed in browser and after I hit cancel, the address field is empty.
Another problem I'm experiencing is that click and hold on a hyperlink shows different menus - sometimes the left corner of the popup is "open in new tab" and sometimes it shows "open in opera mini" and the option to "open the link in a new tab" is right in the middle with the description "open in native browser". This is a big annoyance because it's slowing me down as I have to read what the menu says and can't just automatically scroll left + up + click to choose the option.
Is this a problem of this OS build or OS 7 in general? Will downgrade or upgrade solve it?

How can I purchase Lion from Apple store? Options available are "send to friend" or "copy link"

I cannot make purchases from the Apple store. I want to upgrade to LION, but the only options I see are "Send to friend" or "Copy link".
I do not see any place to sign in--I may be blind--but the site isn't user friendly enough for me to find the sign in area.
Any suggestions as to where it may be or other options to be able to purchase from Apple?

I need help, because i'm creating a web page and i'm traying to copy links, but i can't. I make the selction + control (copy link), but doesn't copied. Probably i've to configure sometghing to be able to copy the links without problems. This problem also happened with simple links as the PPT ones.

Thats the problem, it does copy the name but not the link And when i make the same operation in a pc, i can do the links... and is the same operation... in the same program.

Problems Packaging/Copying Links..

I have a huge file, 50 pages chock full of high res art that is being pulled from all different folders on my machine. There are 300+ pieces of art, the InDesign file itself is 75MB. When I try to package it, OR go to the LINKS panel and choose Copy Links, and try to gather the art that way, it works for a while and eventually gives me a message that just says Cannot copy linked files.. or something like that.. sometimes it copies nothing.. Other times when I try: when I go and look it DID copy many of them but not all, can't figure out the rhyme or reason what went wrong or why it chose some but not others..
It should not be a memory issue on my machine, and all my links are up to date, etc..
Any ideas why this won't work?

I don't think a space should be a problem, but I usually use an underscore for the same thing.
As far as how deep, I don't know if there's a hard limit, but the total number of characters in the path is a factor. Not sure what the limit is on that, either.

To be more precise, you can setup a JComponent or JPanel on top of your JavaFX nodes that has a TransferHandler that can convert the (AWT/Swing) images dragged to the app to JavaFX image and then insert it into the underlying node.
As for the file chooser itselft: ListView and the JavaFX composer can allow you to create one quite easily. TreeView can aslso be used to a lesser extend (still a big buggy). For both of these, there are small bugs in the Cell API that may (or may not) prevent from displaying a proper thumbnail in the cells.
You can also use a regular JFileChooser if you do not mind the dialog box having a different LnF from the rest of your application.
