Copying files by date

Hi, I am trying to find out how to copy files by date, or preferably by date and time.
I have 21,000 files, of which about 1000 need to be resubmitted to a mail queue. The only real differentiating factor is the date and time of creation.
Any one here know of any utilities?

I would say use find and use the -exec option to copy
e.g.
find /path -mtime 10 -exec cp {} ;
You have to check the syntax but that should easily cover it - have a good read of the find man pages

  • Help - "Cannot copy file: Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)"

    Hey there,
    I'm having problems with my Zen Mosaic EZ00. Up until a few weeks ago it has been working fine however, since then, has begun to show the error message? "Cannot copy file: Data error (Cyclic Redundancy Check)" whenever I try to copy files on to it. I have tried the recovery software available and it only updated the firmware. Some files do occasionally (and very occasionally) copy but usually it shows the error message and cancels the copy.
    I would really appreciate if anyone could help me with this?
    Many thanks :smileytongue:

    sorry for the double post!
    ive just realised that my ipod isnt actually charging, its just got the orange light blinking!
    not too sure what is going on now!

    How did you copy files to the external drive, and what files did you copy? Did you drag and drop in the Finder? Use a clone utility? What files did not successfully copy?
    If you reformatted the drive as part of your install, then you won't be able to recover any files from the drive. Reverting back to (reinstalling) 10.4 will not help you.
    Do you have a complete-drive backup of your old system?

    no

    iCloud only give so much space for free storage, then if you exceed the limit of 5gb you have to pay for additional storage.

  • Empty lines getting inserted while copying File data as chunks

    When I try to copy data from one file to other, Extra lines are getting inserted into the copied data.
    I am actually reading chunks of data from the first file and writing it to the other by using 'Byte' count to read.
    Whenever the no. of bytes read ends with the EOL, one extra line is getting inserted in the second file.
    Consider the code snippet given below :
    If the first file content is like this :
    Then the copied file looks :
    The two files are also attached with this post.
    Please shre your suggestions to solve this issue
    Attachments:
    File to be copied.txt ‏1 KB
    Copied File.txt ‏1 KB

    Right click on your Read and Write text file functions and uncheck the Convert EOL option.
    You should also set the browse options for the 2nd file path to allow for new or existing files, and the file open to be for Open or Create.  Without those changes, you can't pick a new file and if you could, you'd get error when it tried to open the file that didn't exist.

  • Copying files to my MBA Early 2011, 10.6.7 changes their 'date modified' to the current date. It happens only to some of the files copied. Any idea what my be causing it. Never had this problem before, on othe macs I have owned.

    Copying files to my new MBA (early 2011) running 10.6.7 results in their 'modification date' to change to the current date. Any idea what may be causing it. It happens only to some of the files (there is no pattern to it.). I have not seen it previously in many other macs I have owned.

    Hi all
    I am bumping this thread again because I can't believe that I am the only one experiencing this issue. At times it is costing me hours repeatedly copying files until eventually the date doesn't show as modified.
    I thought I had cracked it earlier by changing the Sharing & Permissions settings, and applying to enclosed items the ability for Everyone, Me and Staff fo have Read & Write permissions - but that doesn't seemed to have changed much.
    Copying in smaller batches helps sometimes, but then other times it makes no odds, and the Date Modified date shows as the original date for a few seconds, only to change to today's date. Driving me nuts because there is no pattern to it.
    Files which I have copied and show their original modified date, when moved to a subfolder, then have their date changed to today!!! Copying other files into the folder results in files that were previously OK having their Date Modified changed!
    Am I on the only one?

  • How to copy files and last modified date

    Does anyone out there know who to copy files files from one directory to another and retain the date time stamp of the source files?
    I've been able to write some code that copies files from one directory to another but I always end up with a Date Last Modified that is based on the current date. I want to retain the date time stamp from the original file that I copied. Is this possible in Java?
    Mike

    Call file.setLastModified() after you close it.

  • Copy to Mac file Created Date uses iPhoto Modified not Original Date

    When a photo is edited in iPhoto the 'Extended Photo Info' 'Modified' date field is changed to the now() date and time but the 'Original' date iPhoto remains the same.
    Then when a copy is made of a photo in iPhoto and then 'Paste Item(s)' is made to the Mac desktop all the files dates default to the iPhoto 'Modified' date not the iPhoto 'Original Date'. Then if a sort by the 'Original Date' on the Mac is desired it will not happen unless the Created date file settings is changed for each photo copied to the Mac Desktop.
    How can photos in iPhoto be copied to the Mac Desktop with the 'Original Date' used in the Mac file 'Created' date field?

    when a copy is made of a photo in iPhoto and then 'Paste Item(s)' is made to the Mac desktop all the files dates default to the iPhoto 'Modified' date not the iPhoto 'Original Date'
    Where are you seeing this date?  In the Info window for the file with the Finder?  That's to be expected because those dates are the file dates, not the EXIF photo created and modified dates which can't be view by the Finder.  You will need to use a 3rd party EXIF view like  EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X .
    So don't confuse the EXIF date(s) with the file dates.

  • Retaining date/time stamp when copying files from a backup network drive

    How do I retain the date/time stamp when copying files from a backup such as a external drive or a network drive?

    i don't trust MA at all. known to create a lot of problems.
    instead, see the green box in this user tip.

  • Make a second copy on import to external drive and copy the file by date

    In earlier versions I made second copies of files imported to an external hard drive.  The files would import and automatically create a capture date file folder in the same manner as importing by date to the primary internal drive.  At some point this feature seems to have gone away and now I get a folder on the external drive:  p:\\pictures\2014\Imported on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.  What I would like is:  p:\\pictures\2014\2014-04-22
    Is there anyway to force this to happen?  I really hate having to manually move lots of files and create folders to keep the system I have had for years that organizes my files by date of capture on both the primary and backup drives.

    Short answer: No. That is the way it is.
    Why? The Make Second Copy during Import is designed to be a backup of your memory card processes-not a back up of your files as you store them on disk. It is intended to be a transient copy that allows you an immediate backup until such time as a File System Level backup can be performed, allowing you to have two copies so that you can reformat your memory cards.
    I agree it would be nice if the folder storage strategy was duplicated for the backup as it is created for the import but that is not something you can set the program to do currently.  I remember it behaving differently versions ago but do not recall exactly how it used to work.

  • How to copy the table datas into an  open office excel file .

    Hello All ,
    I have a form which contains several pages . Each page contains some tables in it . How can we copy each table datas into an open office execl files ??
    I mean there will be several excel files each file corresponds to a particular table in the form. I am using LiveCycle Designer ES 2 . in Windows XP.
    Thanks
    Bibhu.

    Hi Bibhu,
    Here is a screenshot of exporting the form data to XML:
    I have not imported XML into Excel, but I know that Excel 2007 has tools for this in the Developer tab. I don't have Excel 2007 on this machine, so I can't get screenshots. However using Acrobat you can merge the XML file into a spreadsheet, using the same menu Forms > Manage Form Data > Merge Data Files into Spreadsheet.
    In addition you can set up a data connection to the spreadsheet. However this will only work in a Windows environment and you need to share the OLEDB data connection with all users. In addition if you Reader Enable the form with Acrobat, the data connection will not work.
    So on balance if you want to get data to a spreadsheet I would recommend export XML.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Hyperion DIM (Data integn mgmt/Informatica) - Create Workflow to copy files

    Hello,
    I understand this is an ODI forum but I could not find a Oracle Hyperion DIM forum and so I thought some of you might know DIM. This should be easy for those who have Informatica experience.
    So we are using WinSCP for copying files from one folder to the other.
    Those who do not know what WINSCP is - it is a simple to tool used to conduct secure file transfer b/w local and remote desktop.
    We are doing this file copy from one folder to the other on a repeat basis and we would like to automate the workflow using DIM.
    Well, the task is that I basically log on to WinSCP by providing a hostname, username and password and from a specific folder I have to pick up a file and drop it into a different folder.
    I need to create a workflow to do this so that it may be automated. Can anybody suggest ideas on which tasks I may use within DIM and the general approach? This would be great help. Thanks.

  • Can't copy files to hard disk

    I have been having trouble copying/moving files to an external hard drive from my Macbook Air 3,2. I have moved and copied files from the MacBook Air many times to the external hard disk but this time I am having a lot of trouble.
    I tried to move 2 movie files but it was taking an incredibly long time. So I clicked the "x" to cancel the transfer. However, it didn't stop it straightaway. The transfer just remained in limbo. Then I got a message saying something about how I didn't disconnect the hard disk properly and the hard disk just seemed to have disconnected itself from my computer even though I didn't eject it.
    Then it caused problems for my MacBook Air. When I went to check on the disk in Utilities, it told me I had to use the installation disk to start it up. Other strange things happened like my desktop picture just disappeared and suddenly I had an extra 10GB on my hard drive.
    I repaired the disk successfully using the installation thumb USB drive.
    (I also repaired the external hard disk).
    But I am having the same problem again when I try to move files onto the hard disk. It doesn't seem to work, as it's incredibly slow and when I cancel it, it says I ejected the hard disk wrongly. And the drive does not appear in the Finder Window.
    I don't know why this is happening to me. I repaired the MacBook Air HD and I also repaired the external disk and I can't copy movie files onto the hard disk. I have enough space and both disks are Mac Ext Journal formatted. I copied lots of movies the other day (about three days ago and last night) onto the hard disk without any problems.
    I really need to move the movies from my computer as I will runn out of disk space on the computer soon (I have about 12 GB left right now).
    I tried copying a jpg picture as a test, and it copied it OK but it took a long time. Much longer than normal.
    I got an error message just now:
    The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “Elechxxxxxxxxxx.mp4” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
    I never got this sort of error message before but now I am getting this message today several times when I try and copy the movies. I don't think it's the files themselves because I copied the same sort of movie files last night without any problem.
    And as I said, the jpg file took a really long time to copy, like 2 minutes even though it's only a very small file.

    This is not about saving the data on the external drive but I found this information to be helpful in case people have problems ejecting a drive:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1322931
    I threw the following:
    sudo umount -vf /dev/disk1s1
    and the drive umounted. -v is verbose, just in case there were any errors thrown I wanted to know, and -f is force umount, which forces the drive to unmount. Check 'man umount' from terminal to see more info on these.
    After doing this a couple times (I was doing some testing with some other things to find a faster solution than having to open terminal and umount) it just started umounting correctly. I have no idea why, but it did. So just keep that command in mind, just in case.
    Gryyphyn, out.
    This may prevent the drive from being damaged by incorrect ejection. Because I could not eject the drive using force eject, restarting the computer etc, I unplugged the drive, which damaged the hardware of the drive.
    If I had known about the command window method, I might have  been able to avoid all these problems now that I have with a damaged drive and trying to rescue the data on that drive.
    That being said, I think Apple should try and resolve this problem they have with users not being able to eject drives. It seems to be a VERY common problem, and has nothing to do with users' negligence but to do with a systemic fault of Apple's.

  • ITunes copies files without the "copy files to Media folder" checked.

    I've never been a fan of iTunes. My dislike of its impositive ways is directly proportional to its version (10.1.1(4) currently), so I never allow it to do anything automatically for me. I really like it that way.
    In recent years, after a couple of experiences filled with much tribulation, I have never checked either "Keep iTunes folder media organised" nor "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" under its Preferences, whenever I have been forced to use this accursed application.
    But owning an iPod (a couple actually) makes it impossible to live a jovial iTunes-free lifestyle. So yes, I use it on occasion.
    Those occasions almost exclusively mean copying music and audio books to and from it. No videos, no Pictures, no nothing else.
    I'm using a 4th Generation iPod Touch.
    My iTunes library is not on my computer but on an external HD.
    Anything I drag and drop to the library comes from folders in that external HD.
    Now, the few audio books I own are not even inside my iTunes media folder. They are elsewhere in a folder of their own. But everything had worked O.K.ish so far.
    Today, while re-tagging some audio books I asked iTunes to show the file in Finder. And it did. It was indeed inside that external HD... BUT... on the iTunes media folder, not on the folder where I keep those audio books originally.
    I checked the iTunes "Preferences" to see if the Gremlins had changed anything. It was as it has always been (with all pertinent options unchecked).
    I checked the original folder to see if they had been moved. Nope, they were still there too.
    The versions are not the same, since all that re-tagging I'd been doing had of course affected the ones in the "wrong" folder (the one I did not assigned nor agreed to create).
    The music is fine (some of which comes from a folder similarly outside the iTunes media folder, although most comes from within), it's just the audio books.
    An event of note is that a few days ago, that external HD had a problem and the data had to be moved elsewhere, the HD re-formatted, and the info placed back into it once more. But the paths remain identical since the HD has the same name and the folders are where they once were. I've no idea if this has any effect on anything at all, but I thought to mention it.
    So this mystery is such. Any takers?
    The questions are: Why does this happen? How can I stop it from happening again (aside from not using iTunes :-D).
    It is not that big a problem since I have very few audio books thus the duplicate is not too large, but I'd like to know how to avoid it, if possible.
    Thanks in advance for any information on this.

    iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Uncheck *Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library*.
    Any reason you don't want them in the music folder? You could add them to iTunes and delete the from your documents folder.

  • Copy file from directory to another directory

    I need to copy a file from a directory to another directory, but that file is longer than 2M.
    I put the data into a array of bytes and then i passed to a destination directory.
    Now i'm using a BufferedOutputStream but, as i have a file whith 2M, and this dont work.
    How can i resolve this problem.
    Thanks, Luis

    I use This, and it works with all kinds of files. I use it for backups with thousands of files and subdirectories.
    you can use this like "copyFiles("D:\\Source", "D:\\Destination")
    The two directories in the parameter list must exist. Subdirectories will be generated from the method.
    I hope this will help you.
    private void copyFiles(String fromPath, String toPath)
         // copies all files and its subdirectories from fromPath to toPath
         // fromPath and toPath must exist
              if (fromPath != null)
                   File dir = new File(fromPath);
                   if (dir.exists() && dir.isDirectory())
                        File [] fileList = dir.listFiles();
                        int count = fileList.length;
                        int i = 0;
                        while (i < count)
                             File f = fileList;
                             i++;

    private void copyFile(String src, String dest)

              try
                   FileChannel in = new FileInputStream(src).getChannel();
