Corporate templates and office startscreen

Hi
I know that there is a problem with getting the startscreen in for ex Word to show what you want when you have set the path for workgroup templates. I have a similar problem.
What I want is that when the user starts for ex Word, the startscreen shows our Corporate templates. I know how this can be done and it works, as long as you not set the path for workgrouptemplates or as in our case, it looks ok until you in SharePoint has
choosen "connect to office", then the personal disapears from startscreen. instead you see featured and custom and under custom you see the templates folder but also the sharepointsites etc. This looks quite messy. I know we could go around it by
just not showing the startscreen but you have the same problem when you choose new document, and it would look so nice if the startscreen showed what we want it to.
So I wonder
Is there any policy from microsoft telling us how to manage Corporate templates in Office 2013?
Is it possible to manipulate the startscreen with coding ( I know how to customize backstage print for example, but I can not do it with startscreen or new)
Is it possible to call backstage from vba?
Best regards/ P

  • Having problems with OPA 10 and office 2007 templates

    Hi,
I have a OPA 10 and office 2007 set up which is having some issues with the macros. Seems to me that the visual basic code is not kicking off really well sometimes. I am trying to map the sequence which leads to the errors and I believe that the issue is around opening an old word doc which has a old template version (.dot). This may be the cause for OPA getting lost when working with word 2007.
For example, I ask to open a rules doc and the visual basic tells me that OPA couldn't open the doc but word is opening the doc anyway. However none of the toolbar commands work as well as I can 't save the doc etc.
Have you experienced any issue with OPA 10 and Office 2007? Any special word configuration? Should i go back to office 2003?
BTW, I have both dotm and dot templates loaded as add-ins in word. The dotm toolbar looks good but the dot toolbar is a bit strange in 2007.
    Cheers,
    Paulo

    Hi Paulo,
Have a look at the following tips from Davin Fifield about troubleshooting the toolbar.
Sometimes when using Oracle Policy Modeling, Microsoft Word documents that are part of a Policy Modeling project may appear without the OPA toolbar (in Office 2003) or OPA options on the Add-Ins ribbon (in Office 2007) when opened in Microsoft Word.
This problem can be caused by various factors.
Here are the top three troubleshooting steps to try to recover from this situation.
    1. With your project open in Oracle Policy Modeling, run Update Oracle Policy Templates from the Tools menu. This will attempt to make sure the correct Word template is attached to each project Word document that is not currently excluded from the build. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 2.
    2. Try changing the UI language for your project. To do this, choose Options, from the Tools menu in Oracle Policy Modeling. Select Environment. Selet General. Under Authoring UI Language, choose a language other than your preferred UI language, and click OK. Then repeat these steps to revert to your preferred language. Open a Word document to see if the toolbar/ribbon is now displayed correctly. If not, continue to step 3.
    3. Open one of the Word documents in your Policy Modeling project. Run the macro UpdateToolbar: In Word 2007, choose the View ribbon, then select Macros/View Macros, highlight the UpdateToolbar macro, then choose Run.
    Does this resolve your issue?

  • ADM template for office and AD - Group policy

    Hi,
I need to enforce English (UK) as the editing language in office application (2010 & 2013).
I have downloaded the ADM template saved it on C drive on the AD server.
Then I loaded the ADM template for office to a GOP which I created on test basis and added an AD user to it.
On the template I enabled the setting for primary editing language as English (UK) .
on the client side , when I open an office application eg outlook or word, I can still see English (US) as the set language.
what am I doing wrong ?
also how do I use the ADMX template ? because when from the GPO editor I try to browse add the its template the window show blank.

    Hi,
From Windows 2008 R2, the current version of Administrative Template files are ADMX files. The GPMC displays these settings under the Administrative Templates node.
However, the GPMC still recognizes ADM files and displays these settings under the Classic Administrative Templates node, which is a child node to Administrative Templates .
Checkout the below link on installing ADM files,
Add or Remove Classic Administrative Templates
Checkout the below on adding the Office 2010 ADMX files in to GPMC,
Adding the admx files from Office 2010 admin templates into your GPMC

  • Report generation toolkit problem with office 2000 and office XP

Hello, I am having a problem with running my vi after it is compiled with application builder. The dev machine is an XP box and the targer is windows 2000. I included _Excel Dynamic VIs.vi and _Word Dynamic VIs.vi from the office 2000 section of the install cd (for the report toolkit) in the compile but did not include those files for XP. When I run the application on the target machine (2000), the reporting functions call Excel just fine and the program does not come up with any errors. The program however, is not loading the approprate template and inserting the approprate data. Did I leave some neccessary files out of the compile? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Acer,
The recommended procedure in your case is to install Microsoft Office 2000 on the development machine and then reinstall the LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit. When the toolkit is installed, it will check for the current version of Office and install the corresponding VIs to support it. The VIs include different ActiveX calls according to the version of Office. Therefore it is not enough to change the support manually without having the correct version of Office installed first.
However, I would recommend that you just try to run your executable on a machine that has Office 2000 installed. The difference in the ActiveX API for Office XP and 2000 is not that significant, so your application might work perfectly on an Office 2000 machine. If you try to run the executable on a machine with Office 97 installed I'm willing to bet my right arm that you will experience errors.
    Good luck Acer!

  • A question and out CA 'domain controller' templates, and kerbros/KDC in general

    Hello All
Can someone please help me with the following question. This may be two questions (so if you think I have to post separately please let me know).
I was reading an MS article called "Active Directory Domain Controllers and Certificate auto-enrolment" which was very helpful but through up some questions too.
for example the article talks about a 'template' called 'Directory E-mail Replication' what is this? in other words we have all heard of MS Exchange for corporate email, but the name of this template seems to suggest 'Domain Controllers' send e-mails to
reach other? (over and above their normal AD replication) or is this template used for sending AD replication data via SMTP rather than RPC (which is something I have never heard of). Can someone please explain the purpose of this template, thanks very much.
Also I want to understand the relationship (if any) between these Domain Controller PKI templates and Kerberos in general (can someone point me to a white paper of good blog article)
For example my understanding at the moment if Kerberos is basically a 'symmetric'  key encryption system where by the KDC (Key Distribution Center) take care of administering all these symmetric key pairs, is this basic premise
    correct?
I understand (at a very basic level) to concept of Kerberos TGT and TST (ticket granting ticket and ticket service ticket) and the fact the client cannot read the contents of either of these (rather the KDC is the trust anchor and deals with all the encryption
and description of the keys to provide/proof identity authentication, and the client simply presents these tickets)
Hopefully the above is correct (or on the right lines), what I do not understand is how this (Kerberos/KDC) relates to DC's and their 'Domain Controller' templates or how these Domain Controllers use the certificates generated from these templates for encryption
(I presume to encrypt the AD sync traffic, but isn't this done via Kerberos).
Also AD CA is optional component therefore my logic suggests there should be no relation to these Domain Controller templates and Kerberos
As you can see I have some fundermental gaps in my knowleague and would really appreciate someone helping me out here
    Thanks very much

Re the template Directory E-mail Replication.
Yes, you are right - these are only used for (optional) AD replication via SMTP, and yes this is rather uncommon. I have only encountered this type of replication in a few environments with very specific - and historically grown - firewall and trust requirements.
    Re Kerberos and certificates:
My favorite white paper is this:
Windows Vista Smart Card Infrastructure. See especially the details of how Kerberos is used with smart cards as depicted in Figure 16 and the text below.
When users use smartcards to logon to their computers they authenticate to DCs and DCs authenticate to them. So DCs also need certificates.
    See
RFC 4556 for details of how public key cryptography is used to protect the Kerberos protocol.
So in summary certificates are used for authentication and encryption.
You are right that otherwise - if you don't use smart card logon for users - DC certificates are optional and not needed to do default Kerberos authentication.
Another reason DC certificates are often deployed is for allowing LDAP browsers and other management tools to connect to AD via LDAPs.

  • XL Reporter & templates in Office 2010

I'm having troubles with opening XL Reporter reports using a pre-defined .xlt template in Office 2010.
In the Report Composer -> Generate -> select the report.  -> Action -> Generate Report -> tick the 'Use Excel Template' tick box.  Click OK.
A window pops open & I can see my .xlt template, click Ok & I get an error message saying "...".xlt' could not be found.  Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct...'.
Do these xlt templates need to be in a special place for XL Reporter to use them?  I have been creating the templates & just saving them in the default location.
    We are running 2007A (8.00.181) SP:00 PL: 47.

xltx is the extension for Excel 2010 templates.  xlt is the extension for 2003 Excel templates.
I saved the template as .xlt & it seemed to work, so thanks for that.  However I understood that XL Reporter was compatible with Excel 2010?  Obviously we can open 2003 Excel files in 2010, but then we loose some of the 2010 functionality which is unfortunate.
Are the any updates to XL Reporter or SBO that would solve this (eg SBO 2008?)?
anyway thanks again - we have a work around that will suffice for now.

  • SharePoint templates and metadata

    Hello,
Is there a way to have connection among the sharepoint metadata -columns and some keywords contained on the template?
On other words, i need that the users create a document based on a template at a document library, enter data on the template (at specific locations of the template) and the metadata of sharepoint are filled automatically.
A 1st idea is that i create an event listener that does this (parses the document and fills the columns), but i would expect that other solutions exist as well. Any ideas?a.rongas

From your description i understand 2 cases:
    1. When the document is uploaded. columns needs to be filled with some data.
Yes these column can be then used in SharePoint search metadata
    2. When the document is uploaded. based on some fields inside the document sharepoint columns are updated through event listner.
Again these column can be then used in SharePoint search metadata
My suggestion is that you can try to use below article and sync data in Word and SharePoint column:

  • Adding user created templates into Office 2007/2010 using Group Policy

I am trying to show some of our templates that we have created for work within Microsoft Office (work and excel) but I want them to show for everyone and not just 1 or 2 people. Being in a company that employ's 200+ people in multiple locations, the
task to manually go around to each and every machine to point to a different set of templates seems very time consuming. I am wondering if there is a gpo and/or registry edit that can be used. Anybody's assistance is greatly appreciated!
We have a mixture of Office 2007/2010. Server is a Win 2008 r2 standard.

    Hi,
You can create and deploy custom templates using the steps below:
    1. Create your templates.
    2. Create thumbnail and preview files.
    3. Create an XML configuration file that describes the custom template, thumbnail, and preview files.
    4. Deploy a registry key that enables Office to read the XML configuration file.
For more information, please refer to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc178976(v=office.14).aspx
In addition, a simple way to achieve the goal is setting the file location for "Workgroup templates" and save the custom templates to the shared location,
then users can select the templates via File > New > My Templates. To change the location, you can modify the
    SharedTemplates key under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\xx.0\Common\General].
    Hope this helps.

  • OWC and Office 2007 - any expierences?

    Hi Friends,
we 're currently running  bps applications using owc for typing entries into an Excel mask
We are also planning to roll out Office 2007. After reading note 1140178 - Office Web Component in Excel 2007
and related informations from Micrisoft support pages, i'm afraid, that there might occur some difficulties.
    1. Do  templates based on OWC 2003 run in Office 2007 properly?
    2. As I understand templates cannot be changed or newly created running Office 2007 - am I right ?
    3. Are there licensing aspects to be considered?
    4. Are there other points I've to consider according to this topic?
    5. Are there differnces between Office 3007 and Office 2010 ?
Thanks in advance for any helpafuk reply.
    Regards
    Joe

    Hi Patricia,
    Thanks for reply.
As far as i know SAP provides more tools fpr planning (benath BPS and IP), as a result
of integrating BO and other software providers that offered similiar products.
May be it's better to license one of these products if life cycle is longer than thatz of BPS/IP.
That was the background of my question.
    Have a nice WE
    Joe.

  • BPC and Office 2007 documents

    Is the following statement true:
"Documents created / used by BPC should be in the Excel 97-2003 format"
I am on the SAP Basis team and new to BPC. We are in the development phase of implmenting BPC 7.5 Patch 6 on Netweaver .
The desktops are running Office 2007 and Office 2010.
I resolved an issue last week for a user that was trying to open a template that was saved in an Excel 2007 format and it would not open.  I have another user telling me that his BPC locks up whenever he attempts to open an Excel 2007 "Marco Enabled Workbook" - this is a *.XLSM file. I have two other users telling me that their BPC session "freeze" and need to check with them as to what exactly they are doing when this happens.
Should I be telling my end users that BPC only supports Excel 97-2003 documents and that they should be saving their BPC related documents in this older format?
Thanks in advance for your input

    Hi,
As Sanjeev said ,  that SAP BPC 7.5 supports MS office 2007 and 2010.
one scenario  is that If you save the file in MS office 2003 and then try to open in MS office 2007 it will give that kind of error.
Another scenario  is that once they installed BPC client and then they upgraded the MS Office to 2007 or 2010 it will give problem.
    To solve this :
Re-install MS office first then install BPC Client.
    Hope this will help youu2026

  • Easily editable document flow template for office use?

Sorry for the cryptic title, but i'm not sure how to ask this question.
I have a client who current uses Publisher to maintain a daily changing document that has a thumbnail image and some text for lots of items for sale. There are also multiple categories these items are listed under. I'd like to create an InDesign document (template) that would replace the old doc, but would make it so that an average office worker could be trained a little on it and then could update it and print it daily without blowing up the layout or the design of it.
Specifically, you have about 12 section headers. Each one could have from 0 to 25 items in each. It could fluctuate dramatically from day to day. If there is nothing in one of the categories, i'd like to at least have a placeholder example item there, but it's not going to take up much space.
So...help? I just don't want to over-complicate the process for the office staff, but I want to increase the quality of the output dramatically as well.
    Thanks,
    Eric

This might be overkill in this particular situation, but this is exactly the type of scenario for which many will use InDesign server, front-ended with a web client to merge designated content into a template and ultimately yield a PDF file for either display, print, or both!
The problem of a “typical office worker” using InDesign is that it has a very steep learning curve and there is so much that can go wrong (not that this can't and doesn't happen with Microsoft Publisher or Word as well)!
One other possibililty would be either a script and/or custom plug-in for InDesign to perform the daily fill-in and/or replacement with minimal user interaction.

  • Pub 6.4 and Office 2007 file extensions.

    Hello all,
I had an issue pop up recently regarding ALUI 6.5.1, Publisher 6.4, and Office 2007 files.
Our user base was upgraded to Office 07 several months ago, and we modified our crawlers to handle the new file extensions. We also have a Publisher portlet where users can post various for sale items; kind of a company bulletin board. This portlet uses the News template and sometimes users will attempt to publish a Word or Excel document link to accompany their for sale item. The portlet will publish okay, but when we click on the doc link we get a pop up window that shows the file name with a .ZIP extension and not the correct .DOCX or .XLSX extension. Of course the file does not open either.
Other than instructing users to save files in the older format/name, is there a way for Publisher 6.4 to support the new file extensions of Office 07? Would this work in Pub 6.5?
    Thanks for any help.

    Any solution to this?
We are on Publisher 6.5 and are getting the same error.
I'm assuming this is an issue with the Publisher mime-types (which aren't the same as the general portal mime-types) not being set for the new extensions?
But it is curious that it is redoing them as .zip files!

  • How to save a list template and make use of it in another website as webpart ?

How to save a list template and make use of it in another website as webpart ?
    1. Save As "List A" as .STP
    2. Go to another website, in the document workspace I try to Add webpart -> Browse -> Upload the STP file, but after that the List A webpart still doesn't appear.
Any clue which part went wrong?

    Hi,
firstly you need to upload the .STP file to a list solution gallery of the site and then you can add the list (under custom name) to the webpage
    see here for how to-

  • ICloud and office outlook

Will Apple ever make iCloud compatible with Office Outlook?

Wrong it is a complaint on Apple. It is also a complaint on Microsoft.
I also understand that we are dealing with several different OS's. Lion, OS5+, and Exchange. I wish I could tell you what version of exchange but I am sure it is the older one. I am hopeful the company will be updating the exchange server soon but I have no say in that. My iPhone and iPad work seamlessly with it. Granted I had to be able to tell them where to find my server but I cannot do that in Apple Mail for Mac so therfore it doesn't work.
But let's get back to the main issue that is an issue by Apple and Microsoft. The fact is Apple wants people to use Apple Mail not Outlook. Microsoft wants people to use Windows on a PC then Microsoft products wherever possible. There is no reason either Apple or Microsoft want this problem fixed bottom line.
Personally I am a fan of Apple, Csound no need to try and come to defend Apple. All companies make mistakes. Maybe I am holding my keyboard wrong when I am trying to enter the information and the Bluetooth doesn't have the antenna strength. (Sarcasm) But I do see the problems they are having with the corporate world and no just using only their products is not always the answer. They are either going to have to work better with the corporate world or they will have to work better with the software that the corporate world uses.
So again I have shelled out $2650 for a bunch of stuff to convert to Apple that will not work but would all work with my old PC. I am not happy about this but I wouldn't go back to a PC either. This issue will not be resolved until Outlook either updates to support iCloud Contacts or Apple updates iCloud to support Outlook fully.

What are the differences between SharePoint 2013 and Office 365 Team Sites?
If I would like to develop a professional corporate website with SharePoint technology (because the company allready uses Office 365), do you recommend using SharePoint 2013 (in the cloud) or Office 365 Team Sites? And why?
