Correcting fillable forms

thank you for the answer on the fillable forms yesterday. my next question is Is there a way to correct a pdf form by the webmaster to make it fillable after it is already online using Adobe Pro so that people can use adobe reader 8.o to fill in the blanks as required. your help is appreciated

You need to use the Acrobat Pro form field tools to create the form fields then upload that form to the web site.
The only thing that would hold you back is if the creator of the PDF has added security preventing modification of the file. Then you're just out of luck.

  • How to correct fields in a fillable form?

    I have created a form that has approximately 70 check boxes.  The fillable form is showing them as text boxes.  Is there an easy way to convert them to check boxes without having to create new fields for each entry?

    Ok! I think I've got the hang of how to edit and distribute the form. I see that Adobe records user responses, is there some way to block this feature?
    For my purposes, I really just need to send the fillable form as an email attachment to users, have the users enter and save their responses into the form, and then have them send the modified form back to me as an email attachment.

  • Issue while changing fields in a fillable form PDF (Acrobat 10.1.4 Pro)

    Good Afternoon!
    This is my first time posting here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.
    I am an IT technician trying to support a user who is trying to change a PDF into a fillable form using Acrobat 10.1.4.  She is trying to use the wizard as shown in the image below:
    When she uses this function, Acrobat goes through and automatically detects all possible fields and creates them for her.  Below is an image of the result:
    What she is trying to do is change some of the field types - specifically, she wants to change the box next to "Adult/non-college request" to a check box.  She right clicks on this field to change it, and when she does, Acrobat simply closes.  No error comes up, and she is not given the option to save the document - when she opens it again, it is an ordinary PDF.  In addition, if she creates the form, and then only tries to save the form (without trying to change the fields), Acrobat again simply closes itself.  However, she is able to manually create fillable fields if she does not use the wizard at all, and the document functions normally.
    Any help with this issue would be most appreciated.

    Save early and often.
    I would save the result right after the wizard has made its errors.
    One needs to delete the form field and then manually add the correct type of field. If you want that check box and the next to be mutually exclusive, one gives them the same name and sets the export value for each check box to a unique value.
    I edit forms by opening the "Tools => Forms => Edit fields".
    How to create editable PDF form fields
    I do not like the wizards and create forms by adding all form fields manually according to my planned form design.

  • Fillable forms in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

    I am using Acrobat XI Pro to create a fillable form from one of my word documents. I have a field with 7 drop down boxes. Within the drop down, there a 4 choices and each choice has a numerical value.
    i.e. One drop down box is: Safety and the 4 choices are:
    Critical event = 20
    Documented near-miss = 15
    Risk = 10
    No safety issue = 0
    I want the user to choose one and then have the numerical value autopopulate
    There are 7 of these drop downs that will have a grand total.
    Is there a way to do this in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

    I looked up a javascript but I don't think I did it correctly.
    I have a very basic calculation:
    Safety: Dropdown list containing:
         Critical = 20
         Documented near-miss = 15
         Risk = 10
         No safety issue = 0
    Next to the dropdown I have a text field text box where the user can enter the numerical value (0, 10, 15, 20)
    Then I have a Total Score text field text box where I used the "Calculate" tab, "Value is the sum", "Simplified field notation": then I picked the 7 fields
    This returns the total of the entries in the 7 boxes
    Just seems like there should be a simpler way.

  • Need help with folder level javascript to automate "save button" on a fillable form

    I have been racking my brain for the past 6 hours trying to get a simple save button to work.
    Background: I am using Acrobat Pro 11 to create a save button on a fillable form. My intent is for the end users (my team of 3, whos computers I have access to) to be able to fill out the form, click save, and have the filename appended with date and other info and saved to a local folder on their machine.
    I am attempting to take the default form name i.e. Support Call Log.pdf and have three of the feilds within the form generate a new file name. --> Support Call Log_Brad_121_2015
    End users will fill out the form using adobe viwer X.
    Instead of putting the code that I have tried, modified, and tried again and again. I would like to ask for a fresh start and then see if I can locate my error after. I need to know what to put in my folder level script, line for line.
    I also need to know the correct syntax and format to establish a new file name with the extracted feild data, saved to the same exact file path as the original document.
    Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, I am about to go crazy!!!

    Didn't let me do it, invalid. So, here is what I have now changed my button code to:
    //get field value
    var fv1 = getField("Technician:").value;
    var fv2 = getField("Date Received:").value;
    var fv3 = getField("Unit Number:").value;
    // Split Path into an array so it is easy to work with
    var aMyPath = this.path.split("/");
    // Remove old file name
    aMyPath.pop();
    var NewFileName = "Support Call Log" + "_" + fv1 + "_" + fv2 + "_" + fv3 + ".pdf";
    NewFileName = NewFileName.replace(/[\s\!\?\<\>\'\"\*\/\\\=\?\^\`\{\}\|\~]+/g, "_");
    aMyPath.push(NewFileName);
    //save
    mySaveAs(this,aMyPath.join("/"));
    Im still getting the error dialogue box, and nothing shows in my javascript debugger window when I click the button. Seems to be something goofy with my Folder level script:
    var mySaveAs = app.trustedFunction(
         function(oDoc, cPath, cFlName)
              cPath = cPath.replace(/([^/})$/, "$1/");
              try{
                   oDoc.saveas(cPath + cFlName);
                   catch(e){
                                  app.alert("Error During Save");

  • I cannot save a fillable form for future use. It wont open in preview either...what do I need to do?

    I am a paid subscriber and have a fillable form that I want to save and pick up later.
    Do I have no option?
    I tried to even install a pdf driver as a printer and upon print, the fillable form says print not allowed and I have to save...and when I try to save, it says I can only save a blank form!!
    What do I need to do here?

    Hi mlleslie,
    If I understand correctly, you've converted a file and now want to download it and remove it from your Acrobat.com account. Is that correct? What happens when you try to download it from https://cloud.acrobat.com/files? Do you get an error?
    Once you've downloaded it, you can delete it from your account by selecting it and clicking the trash can icon.
    Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,

  • Documents in fillable forms

    Hi, can I include/embed another document in my fillable form so that the reader can download them, e.g. I may want to provide some detailed guidance to help the respondent arrive at the correct answers when completing the form.

    You can't attached document to the form but you can add links on your form to direct people to external information.
    Add a Formatted Text element, write so text, select the text you want as a link, then right click or look under the Insert menu to add the link.
    Hope this helps

  • Fillable forms come back BLANK mainly from Mac Users

    Hello,
    I created a fillable form from scratch in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended version 9.3.2, using Adobe Livecycle Designer ES version 8.2.1.  I'm on Windows XP.  When I first created the form I saved it on the company server, but, I can't remember why, I had to save it on the desktop in order to distribute it (I'm not sure if this detail is important for the issue).
    I sent the blank fillable form via email as an attachment to about 50 people (not in my organization) with the filename application_distributed.pdf.  Knowing the population that received it, I would say that the majority of them filled it out in Adobe Reader.  I asked them to fill it out, save it with a different name, and send it back to me.
    Out of the 50 forms I got back, 40 came through fine, while the other 10 came back completely blank.  6 of these 10 people used a Mac computer (some of them said they were using "Preview", a Mac version of Adobe, according to them), a couple of them used a pc, and I wasn't able to find out about the other 2.
    I sent the same form twice to a colleague who has both a pc and a Mac at home, and asked her to fill out the first one on her pc, and the 2nd one on her Mac, and to send them back to me in two separate emails.  They both came back to me filled out perfectly.
    I have been scratching my head trying to figure out what the common denominator is amongst the 10 people whose form came back blank...  At the beginning, after I discovered that the first 3 people were Mac users, I thought maybe it was an operating system incompatibility issue, but when I started getting blank forms from pc users, I got more puzzled.
    I was on the phone with Adobe Technical Support for a couple of hours on 5/18/2010, and they asked me to submit the form to them so they could look into it since they couldn't solve the problem by phone, but so far, 3 weeks later, I have not heard back from them.
    Today I finally decided to go on this forum and ask for help.  If anybody has any idea about what the issue might be and how to solve it, I would be eternally grateful.
    Thank you!

    That should work yes. Not to say that there isn't anything else that will cause this but it's the typical reason why it happens.
    It shouldn't cause any conflicts in a Mac. At worst, Reader may want to open PDF's by default but they can easily switch that back by highlighting a PDF, choosing File>Get Info>Open with, choosing Preview and clicking "Change all". When I installed Reader, Mac Preview remained the default Reader until I told it to use Reader.
    Mac and Windows users can get the reader at http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO. It will detect their OS and give them the correct download.
    One thing, if they decide to keep Preview as their default PDF Reader then they will have to actually open Reader and use File>Open to open PDF's in Reader.

  • Creating Fillable Forms

    I have seen questions very simiar to this one, but not precisely the same.  I spoke with your enterprise support division and they said it is possible to create fillable forms using Adobe Acrobat 7.0 standard or Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional.  Is that correct?  I am unable to find the procedures for doing this.
    thank you,
    Robert

    Send the form to 500 people
    1) Each Form?
    2) What happens if you go over?
    3)What if one of those 500 people them forwards it to someone else? Is that person part of the 500?
    4)How does Adobe keep track?
    1) Each "unique" form can be sent to 500 people and they can fill it out an infinite amount of times
    2) well, a couple of the local agencies in our state went over and are now in litigation with Adobe
    3)Yes. %00 people per form total. No matter how they end up getting it
    4)Not sure anyone outside of Adobe can answer that (and they probably wouldn't tell you if there were some definitive way of tracking). In our local cases, they just got busted
    unlimited amount of people and collect the data 500 times
    1) What happens when we go over 500 times
    2)Each form?
    3)What happens if one of those unlimited people then sends it along?
    1)A very expensive (for you) law suit for violation of the EULA
    2)Each "unique" form can be sent to any amount of people but again, you can only collect the data 500 times. This also includes forms that are filled out, printed and mailed. That form can be used 500 times total.
    3)Doesn't matter, it can be sent to all the people you want. See #2.
    I'm really stuck on this 500 number. It seams very little.
    It is and that is intentional. They used to now allow it at all. For larger usage, you would need to purchase a very expensive server side solution from Adobe. How expensive? Let's just ssay that the IRS decided it was too much to update from the latest version so you still have to use Reader 8 to fill out and save their forms.

  • Fillable form email issue

    I have created a fillable form and when the user fills in the fields and hits the email button only the check box fields are captured in the XML. How do I get it to include all data from the form in the XML export?

  • Create fillable form with changing source document

    I want to create a fillable, saveable form in which the source document changes.  Hope I am using the correct verbiage.  Source document meaning the Word document that I convert to a .pdf, which I then use to create the fillable form.  This source document has client/description information that consistently changes.  Is there any way to easily create the fillable form, without having to insert/size/change the text boxes each time (iow, create a whole new form each time)?  I am using Acrobat X.
    Thanks,
    Julie

    If you can have a copy of the original form, create a PDF of the changed form and create a new PDF with a name different that the original form. This will be content layer of the document and not have the form field layer or form fields. You can then open the original PDF form and use the "Document => Replace pages..." to replace the underlying content of the original form while retaining the form field layer. You can now save the revised form. You may need to relocate form form fields due to changes in the form.

  • ? about Adobe Fillable Forms?

    this may be a stupid question because i've only had a half a day to figure out how to make a fillable form, which i did and i understand that you receive a datafile when they hit the submit button. What i want to know if there any way to set it up to actually get the form back with the info filled in without having the recipient having to save the file to their computer and re-attach it.
    thanks for any info. When i have time i'll read the book :)

    I believe you have posted to the wrong forum. The Adobe Output Designer is the form design software used with the Adobe Output Server ("Central Pro" server) software for producing hard copy output. It can make filled PDF files but it doesn't have a user "fill" feature - you have to use other software for that purpose.
    Your question is very similar to those that have been asked at the Adobe LiveCycle Designer forum over the past several months. Unfortunately, for what you want it to do it appears that the answer is that the software doesn't support that capability.
    If I'm correct and this is the wrong forum and the Live Cycle one is the correct one, then browse the posts there or repost your question there for a more definitive answer.
    One good thing about that forum (over this one) is that it is monitored by actual Adobe staff that are very helpful.

  • Omitting pages from Enabled Fillable Form Packets

    I am creating fillable form packets using Adobe Acrobat 9.0 pro (with multiple fillable forms) for use by users using Adobe Reader.  These are enabled.  The problem arises when the end user saves the document, but does not need all of the pages.  Can those not needed be deleted at that point?

    correction, I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0

  • PDF fillable form problem with sending email

    I created a fillable form on a PDF.  I used the "emailto:" setting correctly.  I have tested it out on numerous computers throughout my company and it has appeared in the email inbox of my supplied email with no problem.  However, when my manager went to test the "Submit by Email" button I created on the PDF fillable form, it does not sync up with the "Select Email Client" box.  It starts to do a 'send/receive" on her Microsoft Outlook.  When I go and check to see if it sent anything at all to the designated email inbox it sends like 15 forms (some of them open and some of them do not).  I assume that is just from her clicking a zillion times.  But, I am curious to figure out why the "sent/receive" button appears on the bottom right-hand corner of her screen?!
    Is there a security setting that she might not have clicked that everyone else does?  Also, the "Print Form" button I created right next to the "Submit by Email" box works perfectly.
    Any help is appreciated!

    Now we are even more confused
    - system GW knows itself and answers for example.com
    - system other knows itself and answers for __________?
    You used example2.com in your above which is different from what you
    started out with. And now you are mentioning IMAP that you haven't
    mentioned at all before. Perhaps you are writing faster than you are
    thinking and missing getting the key data into here, and that makes it
    difficult for us to constructively help you.

  • Fillable form not working on most PC's. What do I do?

    I created a fillable form on my mac and it looks great. I even added electronic signatures and a submit button that emails the form to an email address for my client. This is the first time I've ever attempted this. I uploaded the form to the server for their website and on my mac it looks and works great. I've checked the form on 2 seperate pc's and the from says "This portfolio is empty". I also checked the properties of the form on those pc's and it says that the form is not fillable. However, on the mac and on another friends computer, it is fillable. I went back into the original form and check all the security that I could find and as for as I can see, everything is set up correctly. But obviously it's not.... PLEASE HELP. This is a time sensetive issue because my client is waiting for this form. The link to the form is:
    http://ocmedicalgroup.com/patient_info/forms_data/coufal_ppo-pi-medicare_fillable_dataset_ 0001.pdf
    Thank you for any help you can give.

    I made a document in iwork pages and exported it to a PDF. Then I opened it in Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 and turned it into a fillable form. I do not know how it turned into a portfolio. I never intended for it to do that. I don't even now what that is.
    After creating the fillable form, I did add a submit button, which I am going to remove anyway, but then I told it to send to an email after the submit button was pressed.
