Corruption in output : Fraps - H264

Hello,
I usually use VirtualDub to encode my Fraps footage to H264 using x264. I'm trying to see if I can do the same thing using Adobe PE.
Source footage:
AVI
Fraps Codec
1280x768
25 fps
Output settings chosen in Adobe PE:
Microsoft AVI
x264 (using the same parameters I used in VDub)
1280x720 (as I did in VDub)
25 fps
Progressive
Square pixels aspect ratio (1, 0)
Depth: 24 bits (didn't check the max resolution box over it)
My problem is that I get all sorts of corruption in the output. Also for some weird reason VLC refuses to display the video portion of them, although I hear the audio just fine. The other players I have (MPC-HC, WMP) have no issues with it. Here are some relevant screenshots (my version of PE is in French btw):
http://img861.imageshack.us/f/sanstitremh.png/
http://img713.imageshack.us/i/sanstitre5avisnapshot02.png/
EDIT: I read in another thread that PE didn't like Fraps footage and it suggested converting the footage to another lossless format like Lagarith before importing in PE. Well I tried just that and I still have the same issues.

The corruption you're seeing in your output is most likely because of your input. Premiere Elements doesn't digest FRAPS video well.
If you go to Tips & Tricks section of our forum, Bill Hunt has published some suggestions for working with this often-troubling codec and other non-camcorder video.
EDIT
Never mind. I see that Bill has already addressed this issue in your other thread.
Please do not start a discussion in more than one thread. It's very confusing, and it often leads to a lot of crosstalk.

  • Condition on a text is corrupting the output of a smartform

    Hello Everybody,
I put a condition as advised ( int_sal-sal = 0 or int_sal-kondt = 0.)but it is corrupting the output of the form , headers are coming in one page and headers in middle of the form.
    Why is that ?
    Thanks

    Hello Mr Ravi
I want employee's salary  field ( not its contents ) to be hidden when the employee's salary is 0. or his contract start date / end date should not be displayed when they are initial , As advised i placed int_salary-sal in conditions tab of the text node but then its corrupting the output of the form ,

  • PP CS5 - handling and output of h264 (DSLR) files?

Hi all, new to PP (Mac OS 10.6.8, MacPro 1,1, 10 gig ram, RAID5 eSATA).  Starting to work with my copy of CS5, beginning the evaluation process to migrate from FCP7.
I have a couple of questions about using DSLR native h264 files directly in the timeline.
I've got a sequence, about 1 hour in length, of all the camera original files strung together.  While I'm reviewing, watching, etc., I notice a little progress bar in the lower right corner that keeps telling me PP is "conforming MVI_xxxx".  What is it doing?  As a bit of explanation, you may or may not know that h264s are verboten in FCP7, and I generally transcode them to ProRes for edit.  One of my attractions for switching to PP is that I'm attracted to using h264 natively, but wonder if it's truly an efficient way to edit?
Secondly...I have the finished stringout sequence, and now I want to output it to a file so my client can review the raw footage.  My initial test last night sucked...it took a bit over 8 hours to export a rather large (2.4 gig, 872x540 - though I'd set MediaEncoder to export a 960x540 field) h264 movie...which seems like maybe it was re-encoding my h264 files?
In the FCP world, I would have:
    a) transcoded the h264 to ProRes (or whatever I was editing in) previous to edit;
    b) created my stringout sequence;
    c) exported a reference movie (quick, easy);
    d) encoded using Squeeze, Flip-4-Mac or Compressor
So how do I do these steps, or something approximating them, in PP CS5?

Yes that is fine. Premiere needs to conform certain files in order to give proper playback.
Best not to start editing before conforming is done.
One on the reasons I can think of its taking so long is you changed the resolution on export, it has to scale the footage (assuming the original is HD)
And CS5 is a relative old version of Premiere it only supports Nvidia videocard to enable CUDA even with the hack,.

  • .mp4 file output using H264 in Compressor 2.3

I have a client who needs .mp4 files but specified the H.264 compressor. I can easily use Compressor 2 to create .mov files using H.264. But when I select .mp4 file type output Compressor automatically uses the MPEG4 compressor, and I can't seem to override this. Does anyone know how to specify a .mp4 file and H.264 compressor?
Interestingly, I can do this easily in QTPro but exporting Movie to MPEG4, selecting the non IMSA MP4 file format, then specifying the H.264 compressor. Just seems like I should be able to do this in Compressor 2 (so I can batch several together).

H.264 is a type of MPEG-4, only that you are not able to play it on some older devices. H.264 requires QT7. I would conclude when you do this in QT Pro you are now just converting to H.264. In compressor's batch menu select the drop down "settings" menu and choose "web download (quicktime 7 compatible)." From there you will get H.264 choices.

  • Corrupt SWF output?

    Hi all,
For some reason when I publish my project, the produced SWF
has strange random red or grey boxes appearing in the output. I can
preview the output in the browser and it looks fine.
This is happening on more than one project. I can partly
clear it by importing into a new project but even that is not
    reliable.
I never had this sort of problem with V1. I'm currently using
V3 which seems really flaky in comparison.
Any help much appreciated as it's driving me mad.
    Thanks
    CD

    Hi CD
I don't know if this will help or not, but I have seen quite
a few posts relating to the Red Screen scenario and the major
impact seems to be as a result of extensive usage of Full Motion
Recording, which seems to eat up available memory on playback until
the computer freezes up. The main fix, if this is the case, is to
reduce project size by creating smaller projects that daisy chain
into each other and/or to replace some of the FMR with static
    screen shots.
    Cheers

  • Plug in to convert FMLE output to H264

    or anything other than .flv???

You can use a professional encoder like KulaByte which records to .mp4 containers with H.264/AAC payload as well as streaming RTMP annd HLS or you can set up a local professional streaming server like Wowza to record; see http://www.wowza.com/forums/content.php?43 .

  • Messed up colors with quicktime h264 output

    Hello to you all,
Probably not the first time this is mentioned on the apple forum, but I still can't find a working solution for this problem:
Whenever I output a h264 file with quicktime, my colors are messed up.
I have a red car on video. It's red in the original AVCHD MTS file viewed with VLC, it's still red when converted to AIC with voltaic and viewed in Quicktime. But then it happens, exporting to h264 results in a red car with a light blue cast over it, it looks purple!. Both in VLC and Quicktime.
Tried colorsync filters, probably every existing combination, only makes things worse.
Tried to attach other color profiles with automator, only makes things worse.
    I have a wonderfull screenshot of this...hmm I can't attach pictures into this forum...or can I ?
Does anyone know why my car is red in the original raw footage, still red in the AIC file and NOT red but slightly purple in the h264 export.
    My settings for h264 output:
    Bitrate 24Mbps. Multiple cycles.

Wrong forum. This one is to support the FCS application COLOR. It isn't to discuss the vagaries of how your software interprets color information.
You will get better response by posting your question in the forum on this Apple site dedicated to the software you are using for the transcoding.

  • Audio Output Corruption when using USB MIDI keyboard controller

recently, i'm getting intermittent corrupted audio output (short blips of distortion) while playing through my usb midi keyboard. i thought maybe some data got corrupted on the disk over time so i wiped the drive, reinstalled osx, installed all updates, hooked up usb keyboard and all worked fine. today, i plugged in the keyboard and the distortions have reappeared. i unplugged the keyboard and played with the Musical Typing- still distorted. i rebooted and tried Musical Typing- still distorted. I removed the usb midi keyboard device from Audio MIDI Setup, rebooted, and the distortions have disappeared when using Musical Typing. Connecting the keyboard causes the distortions to reappear. I'm at a loss.
    Any ideas?
    environment:
    macbook pro

    UPDATE:
I decided to try going through an Firewire Audio Interface instead. Keyboard-(MIDI)->MOTU Traveler-(Firewire)->MacBook Pro.
    Same corruption/hiccups/choppy playback.

  • Matte made with rotobrush is different in output than it is in After Effects? Help Please.

I ran into this issue last night when I made a matte with a rotobrush. Everything looks perfect when I scrub through and even go frame by frame, but when I export it I get this issue where there seems to be "extra" matte that is cutting off something in the scene by putting the background on top of it (this is what the intentional matte is supposed to do, but not in the frames where it keeps showing up).
I'm using AE CS6 (trial version) with the latest updates. The source footage is h264 (originally AVCHD intelaced, deinterlaced using premiere pro before importing into after effects). The output is h264. Has anyone seen this before? and can you offer any advice on what to check?
Other possibly important info is that there are 3 different rotobrush mattes on 3 different layers. One covers everything, another covers things half way "through" the scene (3D), but gets covered by closer things, and the last one is for when the camera gets to the other side of the subjects.
    So far I've checked:
    -The matte itself.
-Made sure I drew the matte with the rotobrush at full res.
Any quick help would be greatly appreciated because the deadline for the video I'm working on is tonight. (Sept 12th).

    some thoughts/questions
    I would...
use the original footage, no need to deinterlace first, interpret footage correctly, precomp if required. maybe at twice frame rate to compensate for the inter field movement...
though I agree transcoding to pro res makes it easier, the right set up can cope with native footage.
I would put a bright colour solid guide layer underneath to check where holes in the matte could be being disguised by the background colour.
Check for after effects nightmare premultiplication of layers and maybe change layer mode to alpha add in case overlapping edges are causing unwanted transparency.
always render out to an RGB codec as AE is rgb based, then compress in AME...
ALways work at full res, full size.
MANUALLY delete the cache folders as you can quite often be looking at old and corrupt caches.
I have ioFX cards which really help the smoothness of roto...

  • FMS 4.5 - H264?

I have an app that uses FMS4.5 to record web cam video to the local hard drive. I've had no luck at all getting decent output using H264/MP4 directly. I get video but it's artifacty as hell, while FLV output is quite nice. Right now I'm using FFMPEG to convert the flv's to mp4's, but it'd be better to just have mp4's to start. Anyone offer any settings that work for them? I'm recording at 768x432...

??  waht do you mean ? PCMU PCMA  not supported on FMS ?
so why can I  stream H264 with PCMU live and not for record ?
also Custom Metadat don't work at all for record stream in MP4

  • ByteArrayInputStream as source for zip file entry corrupts the ByteArray

    Hi All,
I have managed to create and add a (in-memory) zip file as an email attachment. I add a file to the zip file , then push data to this file via a ByteArrayInputStream.
Adding the file (created via ByteArrayInputStream) to an email works perfectly. If i then add another step and zip this file it corrupts the output.
It looks like it is turning the carriage return into a [] . Its 'almost right' as when I cut & paste the contents of the txt file i created (from the zip file) into Word it displays correctly, with the carriage returns. Is it some kind of encoding problem, or mime type issue?
My ByteArrayInputStream uses buf.append("\n"); for carriage returns. I think the problem is with
ByteArrayInputStream baIn = new  ByteArrayInputStream( getAttachementNoFormat(eq_rt.getStoredProc()) );where I think i need to encode this somehow. Here is the complete code to create and add the zip file to an email. Any isuggestions will be appreciated.

// End Of New ZIP code

I came up with 'a' solution (not sure if its the best way but appears to work)
    \n = corrupt
    \r\n = ok in zip

  • Working with Heavily Compressed, Long Clips (ie DVD, h264)

Hi all. One of the main reasons I switched to Premiere back with CS5 was the mercury playback engine. I often have to make edits from many different sources and premiere allows me to just edit and not worry too much about it. I've done a good amount of reading on the way it works along with xmp metadata and the media cache and all of the various CFA/PKA files that get created to 'conform' clips. Most often these projects are short clips- the most would be a 12 minute DSLR file...
Recently, however, I had to do a project where the source was 8 DVDs, with 2 hours of footage each. My first thought was Mercury PE to the rescue! Just copy the VOBs to the hard drive and use those! On import it took a few minutes to conform, but then it had weird timecode that I couldn't change. Working with the files was somewhat responsive but not great.
(For clarity, my settings in media cache have the cache to a dedicated RAID, the "Save Media cache files next to originals" is UNCHECKED (because I don't want my project folders cluttered with extra stuff), write XMP ID is checked, "enable clip and XMP metadata linking" is checked and "Automatically refresh growing files" is checked - every 60 seconds.)
I needed the timecode to start at zero - any idea why I couldn't edit the timecode on VOB files that were copied to the hard drive? Anyway, to reset timecode and (I thought) get a better codec to work natively with, I converted to mp4 (h264) using Visualhub (old I know, but easy and stitches files together). These new files were about 3GB each, with the full DVD contents stitched together to 1 file, so I had continous timecode that started at zero (because the notes I was given were done on a DVD player). I have used DSLR h264 files before and they are fine - nothing like these, which were MUCH smaller and only around 1000kbit/sec)
Anyway, these files took longer to conform, and the CFA files created were actually LARGER than the original mp4s. They were very slow to work with, and each time I loaded a new clip into the source viewer it took 5-10 minutes before I could see anything (though audio worked). When it came time to render, an 8 minute timeline output to h264 took TWO HOURS! Each timeline had clips from multipe source files, and it seemed like every time it had to insert a clip from a different source file there was a LONG delay -- just like when the files were first imported. During this delay the render progress would not move, then it would go for a bit then another delay. What is happening here? Is it reconforming? Does it have to scan every file to export and if so why does it take so long?
Did I choose the worst possible by converting to h264? What's a better option? I really didn't want to use prores -- those file would have been huge and the quality is awful to begin with. It'd be insane overkill.
If anyone can help me wrap my head around why this seemingly easy project took me FOREVER (mostly due to invisible 'processing' by Premiere) I'd much appreciate it.
    Thanks.

Fair enough but DV is large too. I'm trying to avoid getting back to huge files if I can but I understand that may not be possible. Is there some sort of intermediate between 1mbit and 25mbit? because even DV is overkill for the quality of footage Im talking about. Actually that's what makes this such a pain - it's such a silly, simple project that it seems insane to go through so much hassle. Not sure converting to DV would solve the weird timecode issue either but perhaps (it's been a while). I guess I was really just expecting this to be quick and easy.
I suppose with all the extra files being created DV wouldn't be that much bigger. I'm just shocked at how slow working with these h264 files was - especially when it came time to render. Once everything was conformed I didn't think it would have to re-scan (or whatever it was doing) when it came time to render.
    Thanks for the input.

  • H264 Windows to Mac?

I have to export out a series of movies from Premiere CS6 (Windows 7) to an H264 movie (.mov) ... that I can pull into a Mac, so as to be able to use my Mac setup and DVKitchen to prep the movies for Vimeo et. al.
From Premiere I've output an H264 file ... that will open but not play in my Mac Quicktime Pro (black screen) and it appears it is an" MPEG2 Muxed format.
How can I output an H264 .mov file from Premiere - that I can subsequently view and reformat using my Mac apps?
I've got scores of these films to output.  I'm in a studio that is all PC.  But I will have to finish off these films in my own studio which is all Mac based.
Any help would be most appreciated...
    Ben

Duh.  Found the right combination.  I think this back and forth - PC to Mac - is frying some brain cells.  I just did a custom export out of Premiere - carefully choosing the H264 .mov.
All is well, opens just fine in the Mac Quicktime, and DVKitchen is outputting my uploadable versions.
