Corsair K70 RGB Malfunctioning

I got the new Corsair K70 RGB keyboard in early September, and I've been struggling with Linux compatibility ever since.
The keyboard usually works fine in Windows, with a couple of very irregular glitches, and it works as well in grub. My Arch setup uses dm-crypt with LUKS for an encrypted root disk, so I enter a password at boot. Typically, the keyboard isn't functioning at this point. After I select Arch linux in grub, the key backlights go black and none of the keys seem to have any effect. If I wait at the password prompt, the system throws out intermittent error messages. Once I enter the prompt and the system gets to my greeter (sddm), the keyboard may or may not be working. Some of the time, the keyboard will light up, but if I try to type my password (or, if I disable my desktop manager, my username), it starts repeating the first character I type over and over and over again. I can sometimes get it working at this point by unplugging both USB connections (yes, this keyboard has two for some reason), and plugging them back in, but that's by no means foolproof. When I reach the greeter, the keyboard might simply continue not working, in which case it starts working when I successfully authenticate.
Anecdotally, it seems like these keyboard problems manifest more often when I've just switched over from Windows, but that could just be a red herring.
I've tried removing other peripherals to isolate the issue, which has no effect on whether or not the keyboard works. I've tried moving the keyboard module to before the encrypt module in my initcpio, which only delays the encrypt prompt, and similarly has no effect on the keyboard functioning. I tried updating the keyboard firmware last night (no effect), and I've tried updating my system with pacman -Syu. I'm attaching several dmesg dumps from various boot attempts, and I can add any other logging if useful.
For dmesg log 0000: I had just rebooted from windows. The keyboard worked in grub. The keyboard backlight turned off when the encrypt password prompt came up, and they keys didn't do anything. When I reached sddm (after entering my password with my laptop keyboard), the backlight was on, but the first key I hit started repeating like crazy. After unplugging the keyboard, logging in with the laptop keyboard, and plugging the corsair keyboard back in, the keyboard still wouldn't function, even after several iterations of unplugging and plugging it back in.
For dmesg log 0001: I tried pacman -Syu, and then rebooted. The keyboard didn't work for grub, and didn't work at the encrypt prompt, but the backlight remained on. Once I reached sddm I could type correctly, including after I logged in. Below is the portion of output I saw at boot.

Other keyboard artifacts: if I'm in bash and typing some command and then piping it through grep or something, the command will end up looking like: dmesg | |grep or dmesg | |\grep. If I type slower, the pipe character isn't repeated. Sequence of keys: space, shift down, backslash, space, shift up.

Edit: it looks like there's a thread over on Corsair's forums about this.
Edit2: also worth mentioning galen104's fix to the "timeout initializing reports" error.

Yes. From my tests I've found USB3 on Linux quite buggy (if not completely broken in some cases) and only way to get rid of the problems is to disable it. You could try blacklist xhci_hcd module, but I'm not sure if its going to change something.

  • Finding codes on screen before booting up.

Hi guys, first time posting here because I seem to be running into an issue. Whenever I turn on my PC, I find that my pc shows a black screen with the codes 9c, 99, and a2. These codes happen to stay for a couple of seconds but I have never seen these codes until recently. My system is composed of:
    MSI z97 Pc Mate
    ADATA DDR3-1600 4GBX4 Ram
    Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming
    An Intel 530 SSD 240GB
    Seagate 2tb Barracuda HDD
    Corsair H50 CPU cooler
    Peripherals composed of:
    Corsair K70 RGB
    Razer Deathadder
    and 2 ASUS 279H monitors.
Thank you guys for your help!

Did you update anything related to BIOS (BIOS/Intel ME) recently? Or did Live Update do it?
    Any OC on the CPU?
Or did you add anything new like different keyboard, or some USB hub? Try disconnecting every USB device, leave only keyboard and mouse plugged in and see if something shows up.
Codes are nothing bad really, helps diagnose issue if there is one. What I understand by A2, is that it will always show up when POST is finished without errors. At least that's the last code I see before Windows boots up.
99   Setup timer data area/printer base address
    9C   NPU initialization
    A2   Display and soft errors
I have updated via Live update to Bios v. 4.5.
I do not overlock my system at all if that helps.
It just concerns me that I happen to see all these other codes too, including "9c" when I turn off/restart my computer. This all occurred after my SSD failed but since then I replaced the SSD and reinstalled Windows but this continues to occur. Before any of this, everything was fine.

  • Re: Front USB Ports not working on Z97-G45 motherboard

I figured out the problem. It was my Corsair keyboard, (k70 RGB) I had it plugged into 2 usb 2 ports, I moved it to a single usb 3 port and now my font usb 3 ports are working.

Quote from: Chike on Today at 06:13:44And this was ok before and only happen with Windows 10?
No I never tried it before Windows 10. I was just shutting down all the way.

  • [Soved] usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed: -1

Edit: This issue is old so it wasn't a recent kernel update that started causing it, this is something that's been around for a long time. For me this issue occurred because of a faulty Corsair M65 RGB mouse, apparently the problems I experienced with it are very common with this mouse model, so I'm guessing that the whole line is faulty. It worked fine on Windows when it had it's drivers installed so I'm guessing that the mouse  wasn't a huge fan of generic mouse drivers which was where the problems began. The issue stopped around the time I traded it out for a different mouse, but if anyone else is experiencing this, Staubsauger posted a hotfix solution in the below post.
Since some kernel update (I think somewhere in the 3.17 cycle, the earliest it could have been would be late in the 3.16 cycle I'd guess) I'm getting this message
    [    11.983672] hid-generic 0003:1B1C:1B12.0002: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed: -1
And I notice that my keyboard is not working, i.e. I can't log in from the terminal. (Since I am using a g15 series(g510) keyboard, I also noticed that if I initialize the g15daemon, i.e. a userspace driver, rather than the generic usb keyboard driver, the keyboard will start functioning as normal again. But this is not unique to my keyboard, the same thing happens even if I use a  USB keyboard as generic as they can get, from gigabyte, so I made sure that this is not just happening because I have a slightly unique type of keyboard)
This is happening right now on a fresh reinstall of linux everytime I boot. And in this case, I'm operating from the terminal mode and have not installed the 3rd party drivers for my keyboard. This has never happened before (the last kernel I used was either 3.15 or 3.16, so I would assume this was caused by some change from the 3.17 cycle)
The easy way to fix it is unplugging the keyboard, and then plugging it back in, keyboards work as expected after this. So while this is relatively easy to hotfix, and the problem may go away upon launching X (I haven't tested that yet though, but I suspect when evdev drivers are initialized, a generic keyboard would start working again) it can be quite annoying to say the least.
Anyone know what might be wrong or how to fix it? Is it a kernel bug?
Edit: I had the chance to and have now confirmed, that the keyboard does not initialize correctly after X is started and evedev is run. Moreover, I noticed that this bug applies to most likely all (generic) HIDs, since when I booted straight into X, the mouse was not able to move either.
Edit #2: I have found out that if I just wait for a while (like 30 seconds) the devices will start working. This makes this a bit less annoying, but annoying still.

Thanks Staubsauger, I don't know exactly why but this stopped happening to me (my guess if I think of it is that I changed my mouse, the corsair mouse I had was flawed, it double clicked twice sometimes, and apparently that was a common problem. I haven't noticed this since I changed to another mouse), so I won't get a chance to try out your fix.
I guess we can mark this as solved

  • Product availability

So l went in to purchase a Corsair K70 mechanical keyboard with Cherry MX Brown switches, but there were none in the store.  Does BBY only stock the reds and if so, how can I get the brown via BBY?   From what I have been reading the browns are in higher demand than the reds anyway...
If I can't find it, I guess that means I go through New Egg or Amazon?   I'd prefer to give BBY my business but ya'll don't seem to be maintaining a good stock...
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello Tj159,
I’ve actually been looking for a new keyboard for gaming purposes, and the Corsair K70 is one that I’ve been considering! Between the bright, light up keys and the smooth key response, this keyboard sounds pretty stellar. In reading the reviews, it seems our customers have nothing but positive things to say about the K70.
In regards to the color options, it appears the Cherry MX Red version is the only one that we have available at Best Buy currently. You can see the product page on BestBuy.com by clicking here. However, It’s possible that we’ll start selling the other color options in the future.  Keep an eye on BestBuy.com as we update our product assortment regularly.

  • Safe mode blue screen

After booting in safe mode with "directory recovery" (or something like that). This is one above "with network." It stops at a blue screen with only "ease of access in LL corner, and "shutdown" in LR corner. These work, but don't do anything useful. This is not BSOD.  My best theory is that it's doing something that takes a long time and I should just leave it alone, but it's been a few hours. I've tried pulling the power cord, but restarting still the same thing. If the PC came with a boot CD for rescue or restore of backup image, nobody can find it. There's no CD-writer here either. If I can order a rescue boot CD by mail, I'd like to do that. This has Windows 8, recently updated to 8.1
**next day Situation the same. I think I should try to restore the backup system image. I tried hitting F2 during reboot and got a diagnostics screen. I was hoping for a screen to boot from the backup image partition. I got the following info from the system information in the diagnostic.
    Model: 23-B012
    Serial: 3cr30806p9
    Bios: 8.09
Any suggestions on how to proceed from here welcome.
Thanks for reply. Now Tuesday morning. As it happens, I was led through a system recovery by HP on the phone. The magic key is F11 during boot. The recovery went OK, but at the end system was still in safe mode and would not allow me to proceed. HP said I needed a recovery CD. One came with the product, but had been lost or thrown away by the owner. As I write, I'm waiting for a replacement CD to arrive  by mail. Should arrive today.

  • USB Freaking out

So I built a computer a few days ago, everything was running fine until yesterday when I started getting random USB errors. All I have plugged in is the keyboard and mouse to the computer. The message says windows does not recognize the USB device. Its super annoying though because this mysterious device disconnects and re connects all the time, giving me a pop up notification. I tried updating the drivers, which windows couldn't find, and then I tried and disabling the device, which does not work because it disconnects and reconnects. I have an MSI Gaming 5 z97 MOBO. Any thoughts?
PS Just switched from Mac so I may be a little bit rough on terms.

Here the stats on the system

    Bios: Version 1.8
    GPU: MSI GTX 970

Also have a Corsair k70 and Raptor m45 plugged in. The k70 has a hub but I unpluged the throughput and it was still doing it.

  • BIOS Flash failing exe failing every time.

I have an HP Pro 3120 Small Form Factor system running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit with 2GB RAM.
I am trying to upgrade the RAM to 4GB however when I swap out my existing 2GB module with the new Crucial compatible 4GB module, the computer makes one short and then one long beep, which then repeats, and fails to boot.
I have tried the new memory module in another system and it works perfectly so it is not a faulty new module.
I have tried it in all 4 of the RAM slots in the MOBO and the same happens in each. I have tried it alongside the old module and it fails to boot.
I have read online that someone else had the same problem with this exact PC and trying to upgrade the memory, and they were advised that they needed to update the BISO version on their MOBO in order to upgrade the memory, which apparently worked.
I currently have BIOS 6.07 (02/07/2010) and the MOBO is an IPIEL-LA3.
The HP support and drivers page lists a BIOS update you can download which is 6.07 Rev A dated 10/03/2011.
I have downloaded this exe file and tried running it. The command prompt window opens, several lines confirm various actions all ok until it gest near the end and I get a message saying that the checksum has been destroyed, and the program has ended normally.
The flash fails to work, as when I try to reboot I get another message saying that the BISO has been reset to default settings and there is a checksum error - which I would expect when the BIOS has been changed. However upon entering the BIOS, it is still showing the old version, even after saving and exiting and rebooting again. So the exe file looks like it is failing to run properly. There is no option for a CD or USB install file on the HP drivers page - can anyone help and suggest a way around this? Thanks in advance, Scott

The specs for your motherboard show that it does not support 4G modules.
You would have to install 4- 2G modules to arrive at the max of 8gigs.
Your system uses Dual-Channel Memory. The modules should be upgraded in identical pairs.

  • Z87 XPower - Understanding PLX Usage

    Good afternoon!
I recently added another MSI Geforce GTX 780TI to my machine so now I am running SLI.
As per the MSI instructions, I've placed one of my cards in PCI_E1 and the other in PCI_E5. I have also connected them with an SLI bridge.
GPUZ/GPUID reports that both cards are running in PCIE 3.0 X16 mode. Is this being accomplished via the PLX 8747 chip, or is it still being bypassed and heading straight to the CPU?
I know the PLX is used in 4 way SLI for sure - but based on some reading, I'm thinking the PLX is used in all situations where you're using more than one graphics card.
Does anyone know? I'm just wondering for the sake of curiosity - the system is running beautifully - see specs below!
    Thanks again!

PLX in case of 2-way SLI is a bad idea.
Any kind of multiplexing will increase the time required for the R/W operations on the PCI lanes.
x8-x8 without PLX is faster than x16-x16 with PLX.
For this reason, on certain motherboards the PLX chip is disabled in case of 2-way SLI.
If you really want x16-x16 for SLI (less than 5% faster than x8-x8), buy a CPU with 40 PCI-E lanes.
The bottom line: stay away from any multiplexing workaround.
I'm not too inclined to believe I'm losing much performance with my current setup - but thank you for the input. At this point, the hardware is all fairly new (in terms of how long ago I purchased it) and I'm quite happy with the results. Even if there should be performance gains by dropping my board and avoiding PLX, I'm not sure the gains would tickle my fancy. But it's worth knowing for the next build for sure!
    Thanks guys!

  • Corsair Vengeance K95 RGB

    Hello,
A family member gave me a keyboard for my birthday. They did not get the keyboard that I wanted. The keyboard was purchased about 3 months ago from Best Buy, but has just been opened last week. Is this product available for return or exchange?
    The keyboard that was purchased:
    Corsair Vengeance K95 RGB - $175

    Hi there LukeFlaxman,
It was truly kind of someone to purchase you this keyboard, although I'm sorry to hear you may not be satisfied with it. Under our Return & Exchange Promise, unfortunately this purchase would be far past the return or exchange period of 15 days. Outside of this timeframe, we would unfortunately not be able to accept this item back. I apologize if this was not the news you were hoping for. If you should have any other inquiries, please let us know.
    Regards,

  • Kernel Panics with 4GB Corsair in my iMac

    Hi folks,
last month I decided to do an upgrade on my iMac (model MB323LL - C2D 2.4GHz with only 1GB of RAM), so I bought 2 sticks of 2GB 800MHz Corsair each brand.
Since I installed these my iMac is very crazy: most of the apps have crashes (iChat, iTunes, Firefox, xCode ...), the system do logoff alone, and I have seen thousands of Kernel Panics!
I tried to use those programs to repair permissions (Onyx, Cocktail, and even the system itself), I have repaired permissions and SO is update (10.6.2) but problems remain. Strangely when I use just 1GB this problem doesn't happen.
This problem can be in my Mac or with these memories?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
One of the causes of Kernel Panics is memory malfunctioning. To trouble shoot it put back in your old memory and run the machine, if it operates OK then you know you have an issue with the memory you bought.
The next thing to do is verify if you purchased the correct RAM for your machine, look in the owners manual for the exact specifications. If you didn't get the right RAM that is probably the issue. If you don't have your manual available go here and you can see it online.
If you got the correct memory then it means that one or both of your modules was either installed incorrectly or is defective. To troubleshoot that you will need to remove them and install per the instructions in the manual. You may have to install each one at a time if one is defective to determine which one is bad.
Hope this gives you some ideas.
    Regards,
    Roger

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels.  Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer.  I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation.  I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC.  I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots.  Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes.  Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond.   In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces  (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images.  After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size  images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data.  (I have a screen shot to show this.)  CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong.  I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR.  This is not normal.  I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution.  If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.

  • Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 in Adobe RGB color space?

Can you show slideshow within Lightroom 4.4 (not export out from LR) in Adobe RGB color space provided that you are using a wide gamut monitor which is capable and hardware calibrated & profiled to show such color space?
If this is possible, what is required to do so in Windows 8 and i7-4770 & HD Graphics 4600 platform or does LR take care of it automatically?
This is very basic question, however, I could not find a clear answer/info from LR documentation, so wish that someone can advice.

Those settings are probably stored in a plist somewhere in ~/Library/Preferences. If you can locate the appropriate file, you should be able to copy it to all the network user folders.
