Could anybody explain me what is data guard real time sync ??
This was asked as an interview question to me . am a fresher please help me out..
thanks in advance.Hi,
I suppose you mean Real Time Apply ? That's very popular mode used when the shipping method of standby databases is synchronous (as you probably know Dataguard support two redolog shipping modes - asynchronous and synchronous). In your case of asynchronous redolog shipping there is one step further - use of Real Time Apply instead of shipping archived logs. So instead of waiting for redologs to become archived (either by database log switch or setting ARCHIVE_LAG_TARGET) and then shipped you could set Real Time Apply where blocks from the log buffer of the primary database are send directly to the standby logs of the standby database. The benefits are obvious - the lag is almost few seconds i.e. changes got applied on the standby few seconds after the primary, you don't have to worry whether the archivelogs are sent or not.
Here is link for more information about Real Time Apply at Oracle documentation Apply Services

Recovery_mode managed vs managed real time apply
Hello All,
I am using Oracle 11.2.0.3
My primary database is an Oracle RAC 2 nodes database with ASM and my standby database is a single instance physical standby database on file systems.
My protection mode is MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE
What is the difference I do :
alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect; (managed real time apply)
and
alter database recover managed standby database disconnect; (managed)
Does managed real time apply have any performance impact or disadvantage?
Regards,Does managed real time apply have any performance impact or disadvantage?
Performance i don't think will not be..
For the rest of the queries you have to deside what is real use of it..? I will so you path of pros and cons of it

Could anybody explain what is the difference between cloning and refresh
Hi,
Could anybody explain what is the difference between cloning and refresh
What exactly we do in only E-business suite clone(Database and applications) and only database clone and refresh
Regards,
raviWelcome to the forum,
Database Cloning includes cloning the ORACLE_HOME of the database and the copying of data from source to target instance.
Database Refresh includes copying of data from source to target instance. ORACLE_HOME is not copied during a Database refresh.
Similarly Apps cloning includes cloning the techstack, i.e the 806, iAS homes along with APPL_TOP, COMMON_TOP and the Database
Apps refersh is again copying the database from source to target. The techstack or the APPL_TOP or COMMON_TOP are not copied during an Apps refresh

When I send messages off-line, they enter in the addressed mailbox with the date and hour which I've clicked “Send later”. How could I set up to the real time?
What you say about Send Later timestamp is correct.
When you click Send or Send Later a time is set regardless of when you actually sent the Send Later email.

I want to set up the Time Machine and I would love to use the Time
Capsule but since I already have a wireless router I need suggestions on
what other
external disks Apple could recommend to use with the Time Machine and
how to configure that disk.
A complication that I need to resolve is the fact that I am using Vmware
Fusion to be able to use Windows on my Mac. Now it seems that Time
Machine is not backing up my files
on that virtual Windows without additional configuration and my question
is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
the Fusion virtual machine. If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it. -

Could you explaine me what is the diffternce between APO VMI Vs R/3 VMI ?
Hi Experts,
could you explaine me what is the diffternce between APO VMI Vs R/3 VMI ?
Thanks
babuHi,
VMI is Vendor managed Inventory. APO can plan for VMI scenario. In a situation, when the stock level at the end customer is known to APO , then APO can plan the requirements at the customer level.
The aim of vendor-managed inventory (VMI) is to integrate key customers in supply chain planning. The customer regularly sends stock and sales data to the vendor, and based on that information, the vendor determines replenishment requirements for the customer
VMI as a concept must be same in APO and R/3. But, such planning is possible in APO. I am not sure whether it can be done in R/3 system.

Real-time apply in Maximum Performance Mode Not Working
We have configured physical standby database in maximum performance mode. It's working perfectly fine. Archive logs are being applied to the physical standby.
We can open the DB in read-only mode, but real-time apply is not working. Physical standby database is lagging behind the primary db by an archive log. As soon as primary database generates an archive log, it's transported over to the standby and applied immediately by the media recovery process. But real-time redo is not working. Standby redo logs have been configured.
On Physcial Standby:
SQL> alter database recover managed standby database using current logfile disconnect ;
Database Altered.
SQL> select group#, DBID, status,first_time, last_time from v$standby_log ;
GROUP# DBID STATUS FIRST_TIM LAST_TIME
4 UNASSIGNED UNASSIGNED
5 UNASSIGNED UNASSIGNED
6 UNASSIGNED UNASSIGNED
7 UNASSIGNED UNASSIGNED
SQL> select * from v$dataguard_stats ;
NAME
VALUE
UNIT TIME_COMPUTED
apply lag
+00 00:31:36
day(2) to second(0) interval 22-JUN-2010 08:42:06
transport lag
+00 00:31:34
day(2) to second(0) interval 22-JUN-2010 08:42:06
As you could see from the output above, value of transport and apply lag is equal to the elapsed time since last archive log switch.

jayHi,
In your case you are using ARC process for redo transfer as you have not specified any process in log_archive_dest_2 and default is arch.
I will suggest you to use LGWR to transfer the redo to standby and also check the size of standby redo logs on standby is same to the size of online redo logs on primary

Real time apply for logical standby
Hi
Oracle 11.2.0.3.0
I have a primary database orcl and logical standby database orcl_std.
Real time apply is enabled. I have standby redologs in both primary and standby sides and I`ve started recovery with below command:
ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE;
When I create a new table in primary database, I am unable to see it on standby database (Although real time apply is enabled)
However, when I switch log in primary, I can see the new table in standby database.
My question is, why realtime apply is not working in my scenerio ? I was expecting to see the new table immediately in standby database once it is created in primary database. Why am I supposed to wait for log switch in real time apply ?Using Real-Time Apply to Apply Redo Data Immediately

How Real Time Apply works while physical standby is open in Read Only mode
Hi,
With Active data guard option, we can open physical standby DB in read only mode, while redo log are being applied. (Real Time Query)
Standby Redo log (SRL) enables Real Time Apply (with "USING CURRENT LOGFILE" clause in recover database command on standby DB)
I am interested to know, how Real Time Query works ?
What is the mechanism with allows us to open physical standby DB in read only mode while redo logs are being applied continuously ?
Regards,
SujitDear user7419391,
That is a new feature in Oracle Database 11g. MRP can use the real time apply in 10g but the concept here is different.
Taken from the following document;
http://www.ascent.co.za/documents/oracle/Oracle%20databse%2011g%20Active-Data-Guard%20datasheet.pdf
*Unique Advantages of Oracle Active Data Guard*
+Active Data Guard is an evolution of Data Guard technology, providing unique+
+performance advantages while leveraging all other enhancements included in Oracle+
+Data Guard 11g. For example, any Data Guard 11g physical standby database can+
+be easily converted to a Snapshot Standby. A Snapshot Standby is open read-write+
+and is ideally suited as a test system, able to process transactions independent of the+
+primary database. A Snapshot Standby maintains protection by continuing to receive+
+data from the production database, archiving it for later use. When tests are+
+complete, a single command discards changes made while open read-write and+
+quickly resynchronizes the standby database with the primary.+
The other link in the previous post is excellent and you really have to read it to understand the active data guard aspects.
Regards.

How to get real time information about how many user are logged in and thei
I use tomcat as my server platform in Ubuntu for a war file.
I know in order to get real time information about how many user are logged in, we can count how many active sessions exist by a SessionCounter code. However, I have to permit HttpSessionListener in web.xml of tomcat. From other users' experiences, the configuration is complexed and has some errors.
Here's the link:http://www.stardeveloper.com/article...1112001&page=1
In order to get users' ip, in jsp, use request.getremotehost() or
request.getremoteaddress() by editing the jsp file.
I wonder if there's some open source software to use for these two purposes.
Thank you! That url is missing a few bits. The ... in the middle doesn't help.

From other users' experiences, the configuration is complexed and has some errors. And have you tried it? The configuration isn't that complex.
What errors do you mean? Errors in tracking people, variance in the count? Probably related to internet issues and nothing you can do will alleviate them. -

Gap resolution is not always happening with real time apply
Hi
I noticed a strange behavior in one of my 10.2.0.4 dataguards , and I am wondering if anyone else has encountered it :
When there is an archive gap that need to be resolved , the gap is NOT always being identified and acted upon , when the recovery is started as such :
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION.
its just sitting there doing nothing, and nothing is written to the alert log regarding the gap and nothing is being transferred from the primary as needed.
However, if I restart the apply , omitting the 'USING CURRENT LOGFILE' clause , the gap is identified and acted upon, as such :
ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION.
At first I thought its merely due to me stopping and starting the apply process ( nothing like a "reboot" , right ? ) , but that is not the case.
if I restart , but still use the USING CURRENT LOGFILE clause , the gap is still not being identified .
Anyone had this issue ? any theories as to why that happens ?Using Real-Time Apply to Apply Redo Data Immediately
