Understanding event receives

Hi all,
I have a question for event receives. If an event receive has only a route that begins at the receive, what happens if the event is thrown from either the same or another process. Will the process proceed from the event receive or what will happen?
I have been looking in the documentation, but found no help there.
Can anybody explain this to me?
Sincerely
Kim

Hi again Scott,
I think that is also what I understood from the documentation. However imageine the following scenario:
I have a process which is somewhere in its executon path, this process instance also has a receive event which has no route pointing to it, only a route pointing FROM it (to some other activity in the process. So the process is executing (but the receive event has never been reached - as it has no incoming routes) and suddenly another process throws the exact receive event. What will happen? Does it at all make sense to have the possibility to create a receive event with no incoming routes?
I hope this makes my question a little clearer.
Thanks in advance
Sincerely
Kim

  • SharePoint 2013 event receiver error

    I am currently working on a SharePoint online project. I am facing a strange issue. My code generates 6 documents
    in 6 different document libraries along with other metadata. When I save data to a List, the event receiver fires and creates all the 6 documents. But sometimes it stops creating the 6 documents and left with 1 or 2 documents. Sometimes documents has been
    created but without any metadata. The same code is working fine in my on-premises environment, but it sometimes breaks in the Office 365 environment. I also created a log list to track the issue as we cannot debug in Office 365. In the log list I found a error
    message saying "Thread was being aborted." Below is my code. please help it is happening only in Office 365 environment.

  • SharePoint online 2013 event receiver error

    I am currently working on a SharePoint online project. My code generates 6 documents in 6 different document libraries along with other metadata. When I save data to a List, the event receiver fires and creates all the 6 documents. But sometimes it stops creating
    the 6 documents and left with 1 or 2 documents. Sometimes documents has been created but without any metadata.
    The same code is working fine in my on-premises environment, but it sometimes breaks in the Office 365 environment. I also created a log list to track the issue as we cannot debug in Office 365. In the log list I found a error message saying "Thread was
    being aborted." Below is my code. please help it is happening only in Office 365 environment.

  • Attaching remote event receiver to a list on host web.

    We have an O365 Sharepoint 2013 site. I am trying to create a remote event receiver and attach it to a list on host web instead of appweb. Below are the links that I am referencing to do it:
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/636058/Adventures-with-SharePoint-2013-Remote-Event-Recei
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/knewton/archive/2012/12/11/defining-content-in-host-web-from-an-app-for-sharepoint.aspx
    They are using 'AppInstalled' event to accomplish this. The method is as follows: get the client context of the host web, get our target list in the host web, get the service url of the remote event receiver using code below:
    string remoteUrl = string.Format("https://{0}/OurRemoteEventReceiver.svc",
      OperationContext.Current.Channel.LocalAddress.Uri.DnsSafeHost + "/services");
    and then use it while adding an event receiver to our target list. A different way of obtaining this remoteUrl is shown in the second post.
    When I try to do this I get the below error:
    CorrelationId: eb837c4c-c434-4067-99f4-ad9b38e30d82
    3>        ErrorDetail: The remote event receiver callout failed.
    3>        ErrorType: Transient
    3>        ErrorTypeName: Intermittent
    3>        ExceptionMessage: The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error.  For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from
    the <serviceDebug> configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs.
    3>        Source: Common
    3>        SourceName: Common App Deployment
    Also, the 'Grant permissions to the App' window appears when I hit Deploy and immediately goes away before I hit or even see the 'Trust it' button. Then, after a while I get the above error in output window. This happens whenever I add the 'AppEventReceiver.svc'
    by selecting 'AppInstalled' property to True and then write any code(or even not write any code) in it that targets the host web. Any suggestions please?

    Hi,
    We can add the code snippet below in the "App Installed" event handler.
    EventReceiverDefinitionCreationInformation eventReceiver = new EventReceiverDefinitionCreationInformation();
    eventReceiver.EventType = EventReceiverType.ItemAdding;
    eventReceiver.ReceiverAssembly = Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().FullName;
    eventReceiver.ReceiverClass = "OurRemoteEventReceiver";
    eventReceiver.ReceiverName = "OurRemoteEventReceiver";
    eventReceiver.ReceiverUrl = "http://xxx/OurRemoteEventReceiver.svc";
    eventReceiver.SequenceNumber = 1000;
    Web web = SPutil.getSP("http://sub.domain.com/sites/apps");
    List targetList = web.Lists.GetByTitle("Host Web List");
    targetList.EventReceivers.Add(eventReceiver);
    web.Context.ExecuteQuery();
    You will need to include an additional .NET class as well:
    using System.Reflection;
    If the problem still existed, I  suggest to debug your remote event receiver project to find the cause of the error. The link below for your reference:

  • Conflict between Client object model and Item Updated Event Receiver in sharepoint 2010

    Hello All,
    As per my requirement I have a two custom list.
    Agent Details
    Port Name
    Agent Details contains Agent code, Port Name,  email, address and phone of Agent. Its possible that one Agent Code is connected with multiple Port Name.
    Basically what I am doing is I am getting port name connected with Agent code, using jquery and bind those values with check box(using javascript created dynamically) and bind all with Div tag.
    Now when my custom edit form of Agent list open up it shows me different port name binding with checkbox group.
    when user select the check box and click confirm button my clicent object model script will run and add this selected value into Port Name list.
    After confirm one more button named Save will enable asking user to edit the email, phone or address value and when I click on save my Item updated event fires which update the values of the selected port name(These port name I am getting from port
    name list) to Agent Details custom list.
    Now when I am trying to update the values my event receiver fires or some times it got stuck(not firing). So could you please help me the possible alternative for this requirements.
    Can we user the Ecma Script(Client object model to preserve the value of selectec port) and Item updated event receiver on the same time?
    Is anything am doing wrong then please guide me.

    Hi,
    As I understand, when you updated values in the agent details list the Item updated event receiver got stuck sometimes.
    The item update event receiver will fire after the item has been saved, and the client object model script or the Ecma Script runs before the item is saved, so there is no conflict between the client object model script and item update event receiver.
    You could find out the reason about the item update event receiver gets stuck by debugging the event receiver.
    When you want to debug your event receivers, you have to attach to OWSTIMER.EXE and wait till they are executed. You can control this behavior using the Synchronization attribute. Also, if you’re looking for an easy way to debug an event receiver without
    having to manually attach a debugger to your code, you can use the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch() method.
    The articles below are about how to debug in the event receiver in SharePoint 2010.

  • Calendar - How can I expand the recurrences of a recurring item in ItemAdding event receiver?

    When a user add a new recurrence event to a calendar I want to check if any of the recurrences overlap with events already in the calendar.
    I saw the property Recurrences Data and its XML but I didn't find a way to translate that value to dates I can test against the events dates on the calendar.
    So, is there a way to expand the recurrences of an event in the ItemAdding event receiver of a calendar?

    Hi,
    Per my understanding, you might want to check if there any overlapped recurring events in Event Receiver.
    You can build the query with <DateRangesOverlap> to return the recurring events with Server Object Model.
    A code demo in the thread below about how to get recurring events from Calendar for your reference:

  • Want to fire event receiver before workflow is execute while adding File in Document Library.

    Hi,
    I have Event receiver and workflow attached to same Document
    Library.
    Is it possible to fire event receiver before Workflow is
    executed ?
    Regards,
    Milind

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that you want fire event receiver before workflow is excuted.
    If the workflow for a list is set to auto-start, it will always execute before event receiver by default.
    Here is a similar thread for your reference:
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/3147/execution-order-of-event-receivers-and-workflow-on-a-list
    As a workaround, you can set the workflow start by manually. Then , after executing the event receiver, you can start workflow using code at the end of event receiver.
    Here is a demo for your reference:

  • Event Receiver to create a List based on a custom template and on lookup field

    Hi
    I would like to have an Event Receiver who is firing by addItem in a list calls Seminarliste and is creating each time a new list based on three columns for add.Lists("Title of the list", "Description of the list", "Custom List
    Template")
    I have a Problem to get the LookupField Title and I am getting a Problem to create a list.
    If I debug the code the bold line creates an exception ;(
    The following code I have produced:
            public override void ItemAdding(SPItemEventProperties properties)
                base.ItemAdding(properties);
                SPWeb spCurrentSite = properties.OpenWeb();
                SPSite siteCollection = new SPSite("http://win-ue32d37ap2n");
                SPWeb web = siteCollection.OpenWeb();
                SPListCollection lists = web.Lists;
                String curListName = properties.ListTitle;
                if(curListName == "Seminarliste")
                    SPListItem curItem = properties.ListItem;
                    String curItemListName = properties.AfterProperties["Title"].ToString();
                    String curItemDescription = properties.AfterProperties["Beschreibung"].ToString();
                    // Lookup field with Option to Chose a template name
                    String curItemTemplate = properties.AfterProperties["Template"].ToString();
                    SPListTemplateCollection listTemplates = siteCollection.GetCustomListTemplates(web);
                    //Error by following line ...
    SPListTemplate myTemplate = listTemplates[curItemTemplate];
                    web.Lists.Add(curItemListName, curItemDescription, myTemplate);
    If somebody had a similar problem in the past and could advice it would be most appreciated ;-)
    Thanks in advance ;-)
    Kind regards Michael Damaschke

    If I understand correctly, the field you use to select the template name is a lookup field? If so, then the problem is the lookup field value is not the name of the template. It is an SPFieldLookupValue, which contains the ID and the string of the lookup.
    So you want to separate the template name, like this:
    if (item["LookupField"] !=
    null)
         string fieldValue = item["LookupField"].ToString();
         SPFieldLookupValue value =
    new SPFieldLookupValue(fieldValue);
         int lookupListItemID = value.LookupId;
         string lookupListValue = value.LookupValue;
    IF you look at the fieldValue above, you will see it is something like an integer, followed by delimiter ;# and then your template name. you can always just parse the string at the ;# as well if you were so inclined.

  • View not updating in event receiver

    I have created a C# SharePoint 2010 Non-sandboxed project that implements the ListAdded event receiver. What I want to do is to check the new document library and add a number of site columns to it depending on the template. (I have discovered that the ListAdding
    event receiver is useless as the list reference is null at that point.)
    For each field, I run the following code whch successfully adds the columns. However, the code seems to have no effect on the default view.
    private void AddColumn(string name, SPListEventProperties properties)
    SPWeb web = properties.Web;
    SPField field = null;
    try
    field = web.AvailableFields[name];
    properties.List.Fields.Add(field);
    field.ShowInDisplayForm = true; // Saw these in an post about SP 2007. Not needed?
    field.ShowInEditForm = true;
    field.ShowInListSettings = true;
    field.ShowInNewForm = true;
    field.ShowInViewForms = true;
    properties.List.Update();
    var xx = field.InternalName;
    properties.List.DefaultView.ViewFields.Add(xx);
    properties.List.DefaultView.Update();
    catch (Exception)
    At the bottom of the method, examining properties.List.ViewFields in the Watch window shows that it is untouched by my code. What am I doing wrong? The UI confirms the fact that the the columns have been added and are available for adding to the view.

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is you can’t add field to the default view in Event Receiver.
    I suggest you create a simple demo and try the code below to test whether it works properly.
    static void Main(string[] args)
    SPSite site = new SPSite("your site URL");
    SPWeb web = site.OpenWeb();
    SPList list = web.Lists.TryGetList("your list name");
    list.Fields.Add("Information", SPFieldType.Text, false);
    list.Update();
    SPView defaultView = list.DefaultView;
    defaultView.ViewFields.Add(list.Fields["Information"]);
    defaultView.Update();
    Feel free to reply to reply the test result.

  • How to do some actions between event received and event linked

    Hi all!
    Sorry my bad english :(
    I want to review event data (to compare with process form by java method) after event received and correspondence found, but before it linked.
    How could i do it?

    Rajiv Dewan
    You have to fetch data using SQL from RCD table.
    See the tables related to Reconciliation RCD, RCE. There you'll get data.In this tables only service information about event, not reconciliation fields values.
    This information i i can get from mapping.
    Rajiv Dewan
    You can make an entity adapter and get old data and new data.
    Validate that and then send email.
    If you don't get any old data it means it is Recon Insert Event then do nothing.I make entity adapter and assign it into pre-update.
    I map my variables to all reconciliation fields and to process key.
    Start reconciliation.
    When reconciliation finished, user process form updated, but pre-update adapter does not invoke.
    rajsunny
    Is this your custom connector ? ? No, it's not custom connector, but later it will be actually for custom (if there are not chance to implement incremental reconciliation).
    If Yes then just use the API ignoreEvent before generating the recon event. In that case, only if there are differences the OIM processes the recon event, otherwise it won't. Now put >your notification on the data object RCE.From OIM Javadoc:
    OIM javadoc
    boolean ignoreEvent(java.lang.String psObjName, java.util.Map poData)
    It first tries to find a definitive account match, and then compares the account data with the record of it in Xellerate. If there is no difference between the data, it returns a true (indicating that the reconciliation event should not be raised). In all other cases, it will return false.
    ...When i invoke this method and it does not find a definitive account match, then return value is true.
    As far as i understand it does not mismatch to javadoc, am i right?

  • Fire event receiver after update list items with PowerShell

    Hi,
    I have a list with a event receiver attached to it. Also I have a PowerShell script which updates some elements. I noticed that the Event Receiver is not firing after the PowerShell script runs. Is there any way to make it happen?
    Thanks anyway!

    Hi,
    According to your description, my understanding is that the event receiver not fire after you update the item elements.
    I suggest you can create a simple event receiver and then test if the event receiver fire after PowerShell run.
    Here is my PowerShell script:
    $spWeb = Get-SPWeb -Identity http://sp2013sps/sites/test
    $spList = $spWeb.Lists["Documents"]
    $spItem = $spList.GetItemById(14)
    $spItem["Title"] = "Test111"
    $spItem.Update()
    Here is my event receiver code:
    public override void ItemUpdated(SPItemEventProperties properties)
    base.ItemUpdated(properties);
    Console.WriteLine("event receiver has been done");
    After the PowerShell run, it will come out the result:
    It means the event receiver has been fired.

  • Cannot access Dynamics XRM from within Event Receiver

    Hello everyone
    I'm struggling with an issue here and I would like to hear some advice from you. The problem is the following:
    I need to do something on Dynamics CRM whenever a document is uploaded to a specific location in SharePoint. I'm using an Event receiver for this purpose and connecting to CRM via the IOrganizationService, like this:
    IOrganizationService service = new OrganizationServiceProxy(serviceUri, null, credentials, null); //service uri is https//serviceUri is something like "https://crmserver/organization/XRMServices/2011/Organization.svc"
    But for some reason I'm unable to execute that line successfully (looks like it times out) from within the Event receiver. However, the same exact piece of code works perfectly fine if executed from a separate console application (i.e., outside the IIS application
    pool) running on the same SharePoint server...I'm confused, do I need to configure anything else on the SharePoint application pool so it let's me access the XRM service?
    More info:
    - It's not credentials issue, even provinding hardcoded it doesn't work
    - Both SharePoint 2013 and Dynamics CRM 2013 are on premises.
    - Integration between SharePoint and Dynamics CRM is done through the CRM List Component, over https, and it's working fine.This is not really important for this but it's just to tell that both servers can comunicate over https.
    I would really like to get some advice on this. Thank you in advance.
    Regards

    Hi,
    Per my understanding, there is an issue when trying to access Dynamic CRM in an Event Receiver.
    As you said, the same code works in a Console Application, it means the code should be OK. To narrow down the issue, I suggest you do as follows:
    1. Please debug this Event Receiver in Visual Studio to see if the Event Receiver is working, what’s more, it will give you more information about how the code works
    or if there is any exception thrown during debugging;
    2. Is it a Sandboxed solution? Sometimes
    the limitation of a Sandboxed solution would interrupt the code execution, you can try to change it to “Farm” solution and make another test;
    3. If the above steps not work for you, please trace the requests using Fiddler when the Event Receiver running, more details there would help you easier to find out
    the root cause of this issue.
    Thanks

  • How do I add web part in the event receiver after the site is provisioned in SP 2010?

    How do I add web part in the event receiver after the site is provisioned in SP 2010?

    You try the below steps:
    1. Use long operation to provision the site, so that it does not time out in process.
    2. After provisioning, you can add a page or add the web part directly to landing page of site.
    For each of the above steps you can find the sample code pieces.
    if you couldn't get that, let me know. I will share with you.

  • Sharepoint 2013 ItemAdded event receiver for renaming files is not working

    In SP 2013 I coded an event receiver that intercepts the ItemAdded event and it just renames the file.
    It is a synchronous event (I added <Synchronization>Synchronous</Synchronization> in the Elements.xml).
    This is the code:
            public override void ItemAdded(SPItemEventProperties properties)
                SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()

                        SPFile spf = openedWeb.GetFile(szHttpUrl);
                        EventFiringEnabled = false;
                        string szUrl = properties.AfterUrl;
                        szUrl = szUrl + ".renamed";
                        string szNewFileName;
                        if (szUrl.LastIndexOf('\\') != -1) szNewFileName = szUrl.Substring(szUrl.LastIndexOf('\\') + 1);
                        else if (szUrl.LastIndexOf('/') != -1) szNewFileName = szUrl.Substring(szUrl.LastIndexOf('/') + 1);
                        else szNewFileName = szUrl;
                        if (properties.ListItem != null)
                            properties.ListItem["Title"] = szNewFileName;
                            properties.ListItem.Update();
                        spf.MoveTo(szUrl);
                        EventFiringEnabled = true;
                        base.ItemAdded(properties);

                    catch (System.Exception exception)

    So it is clear that the fact that I renamed the file is causing an issue in the SharePoint upload logic.
    As a solution what I did was to not declare it as Synchronous, but if I do it then there is another error when Sharepoint shows the Edit Properties dialog... in this case the upload is OK but when it is time to show that Edit Property dialog IE fails and
    says that the file has been already modified, or that "something went wrong".
    If I use a synchronous event I get one problem. If I use the asynchronous event I get another problem... It's very frustating and I am pretty sure that a so important API like Event Receivers should have support renaming files so I hope someone can tell
    me what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance
