"Could not Load file or assembly..." Another one

I have searched in the forum for possibles solutions and i can't fix this problem yet.
The problem comes when i decided to use my c# assemblies without installing them in the GAC.
The sequence calls a "Tool" class that include a "Reader" class, that "Reader" class use a "Wrapper" class for some C libraries. The sequence breaks at the constructor of the "Reader"class with the well-known error.
The sequence works well when i had all my libraries installed in GAC, but we want to avoid GAC due to production requirements. It is a problem withinthe GAC?
The key that makes me write a post here is the fact that, as it is now, my system works well with a .NET GUI utility, but does not work with TestStand. Could you give me, at least, any idea or what can i search to fix it? If it is possible without GAC...
Thanks.

Hi,
With the information you give I can only stay general: We are using a lot of C#-classes we have wrotten by ourself but we never use the GAC. We got usually this exception because - obviously - Teststand or the called dll could not found the secondary dll. Typically, we put all our dll in on folder and set this folder in the "Seach Directories" of Teststand.
If you could please send more information on which function is calling which dll and where are located the dll, I will may be help you further.
Bye,

  • Could not load file or assembly because runtime is newer than currently loaded run time

    I have recently upgraded to TestStand 2010 and Visual Studio 2010 from TestStand 4.2.1 and Visual Studio 2008. I am now getting the following error in the sequence analysis for all calls to my .net dlls.
    "Module for Step 'My_StepType' not Loadable. Could not load file or assembly or one of its dependencies. This assembly is built by a runtime newer than the currently loaded runtime and cannot be loaded."
    I do not know what runtime it is referring to. It all worked previously. I have tried to browse to the dll again but that doesn't make any difference.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    By default the TestStand Sequence Editor targets .NET 2.0 and the .NET adapter can call assemblies built in .NET 2.0-3.5.  This is because those versions of .NET all share the same CLR version.  .NET 4.0 however moved to a new CLR, meaning that if you want to call .NET 4.0 assemblies you will need to make the Sequence Editor target .NET 4.0 as well.  You can do this by creating an app config file for SeqEdit.exe.
    Without going into too many details, just create a file named "SeqEdit.exe.config" and put the following text in it:
    <configuration>
      <startup useLegacyV2RuntimeActivationPolicy="true">
        <supportedRuntime version="v4.0"/>
      </startup>
    </configuration>
    Then place this file in the same directory as SeqEdit.exe.  I believe we have an article explaining this in more detail.  I'll try and find it.  Your other option is to target an earlier framework with your .NET assemblies (this is just a project setting in VS 2010).

  • Deploy Web Site Error:Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies

    I have created a ASP.NET web Site (not Web application), using Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate and "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" in my C# Code.
    I am able to successfully compile & publish the website to another IIS Web Server, with Operating System Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I can even test, successfully, this website on the machine I developed it in.
    I am publishing the website, from within Visual Studio, to a Network web server running IIS.  To Publish I am using Build-> "Publish Web Site".  In the Publish Profile, I am using Web Deploy Method. Even though I am using, successfully,
    "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" in my website, the "settings" (in Publish Profile) does not detect any Databases in the project. Which may not be a problem.
    When I try to bring up the web site on the IIS Web Server machine I get the following error..
    Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies .
    As my project is a Web Site, not Web Site Application, I do not have a references node in the Solution Explorer. I think the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll, which is type GAC in my project, is not getting published to the webserver, which is causing this Error.
    Can I copy this .dll over manually ? If yes, where to put on the ISS Web Server ? I do not see any bin folder.
    Any help to resolve this error will be appreciated.

    Hello.. I went ahead and created web application project and have gone past that error. But I have a new error now
    System.Data.SqlServerCe.SqlCeException: Unable to load the native components of
    SQL Server Compact corresponding to the ADO.NET provider of version 8876.
    Install the correct version of SQL Server Compact. Refer to KB article 974247
    for more details.
    Compiling and Publishing (Deployment) are both successful
    In my project, when adding reference to SQL Server Compact Edition , there are 2 possible locations to reference the DDL from:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v4.0\Private
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition\v4.0\Desktop.
    I have tried both. I get the same error as shown above.
    Interestingly, in My WebConfig, I do not see any reference to System.Data.SqlServerCe.
    Yet, the Website works when I click on Ctrl+F5

  • Could not load file or assembly 'Ajaxcontroltoolkit' or one of its dependencies. Access denied

    Hi all,
    I have searched a lot in google, but could not find the same scenario i am facing.
    I have a asp.net 3.5 web application, which use ajax toolkits. Also, I am impersonating the logged active directory users to connect sql server with their own windows credential. Everything fine, but sometimes, I am getting the error "Could not load file
    or assembly 'Ajaxcontroltoolkit' or one of its dependencies. Access denied". If I republish the site, the error will go. I dont know which cause to this error?
    Any solution would be highly appreciated.

    Hi Ghouse,
    Sorry for my weak explanation.
    Let me bit more clear. I publish the web app into a server. It works very fine. But, after few days, or even before, it show the subject error. Then it will keep on coming the same error. If I publish again, the web starts working again. After few days,
    the error will come again. I dont know what is the root cause.
    I see a message "This file came from another computer and might be blocked to help protect this computer" on the properties box of the ajax dll. I clicked on ublock. After that the access denied issue didnt appear. But, not sure this is the solution, I also
    have give full right to asp.net temperory file folder.

    Note that the dev machine is x64 Win7.
    I have not tried deploying this to staging since the issue started as I'm a bit nervous of touching the staging/live environment until this is solved.
    Removing the PlatformTarget element from the project file has no effect
    Removing the msshrtmi.dll file from the bin directory of the website project ends up with
    'Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.WindowsFabric.Common, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified'
    I have used Git to revert to the last working build to no effect (But I don't have the obj/bin folders in GIT), but it has atleast reset the project files etc.
    If I return msshrtmi.dll to the bin folder and switch the model and website projects to x64 there is no change
    If I switch both to x86 then I get an error Could not load file or assembly 'BekoModel2011' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
    which is the model project - presumably because to run on my x64 machine I need the 64bit version?
    I really need to be able to debug and then publish some changes ASAP.

    Hi,
    Is it true that you're using IIS to host the application? Could you check whether the process is x64 or x86 one via task manager or config in IIS manager?

    I started getting this error message for the first time today. When I look in the event log I see it every time anyone tries to sync to a mobile device to the exchange server. I've also had this problem trying to connect using

    I have tried most, if not all, of the different post's suggestions to no avail.
    The steps I have taken are as follows...
    1. Repaired .Net 4 (Both the client and extended)
    2. Uninstalled and reinstalled .Net Framework 4.0.
    3. Verified that the dll exists.
    4. Checked the applicationHost.config file. It contains the follow statement...
    <add name="ServiceModel-4.0" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.ServiceHttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" preCondition="managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0"
    />
    5. Changed the following line in web.config to include the runtimeVersion...
    <add name="ServiceModel" type="System.ServiceModel.Activation.HttpModule, System.ServiceModel.Activation, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" preCondition="managedHandler,runtimeVersionv2.0" />
    6. Executed aspnet_regiis.exe -iru from the ...\Framework64\v4.0.30319 directory.
    7. Went to inetpub\history to use an applicationHost.config file from yesterday but it only has history from 9PM tonight. It probably had what I needed before I started changing it tonight.
    I still receive the same error message.
    Like I said everything was working yesterday. In fact I didn't hear or see any issue until after 1PM today.
    Any help would be very appreciated!

    Hi,
    Please confirm whether users can access their mailboxes from Outlook Web Access or not. We can do the following changes to have a try:
    1. In IIS > Application Pools, change the .NET Framework Version to v2.0 and restart IIS service.
    2. If it doesn’t work, explore the Default Web site.
    3. Renamed the web.config file to web.config.old
    4. Reset IIS using iisreset command to have a try.
    Thanks,

    Hi Glen,
    "The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference." is generally caused by the loaded assembly's version is different than the expected version application refers to.
    In this case, it should be caused by:
    While starting Report Manager, the backend process ReportingServiceService need to load assemblies it refers to
    ReportingServiceService reads the compilation/assemblies element from web.config(under Report Manager virtual patch)
    If the compilation/assemblies is not existing, ReportingServiceService loads all assemblies from Bin folder. It can be verified from call stack System.Web.Configuration.CompilationSection.LoadAllAssembliesFromAppDomainBinDirectory(). ReportingServiceService
    uses System.Reflection.Assembly.Load with the assemblies' name only to load assemblies.
    The Assembly.Load tries to load from the specify assembly by name from GAC at first. If it is found from GAC, it won't be loaded from Bin folder any more.
    Since Reporting Service SharePoint Integration mode is installed, a same assembly of 'Microsoft.ReportingServices.SharePoint.ObjectModel' with different version might be installed to the GAC. That causes the error "The located assembly's manifest definition
    does not match the assembly reference."

    Have you tried this?

    I am trying to use SQL Server 2008 Developer on Windows Server 2008.  Whenever I try to connect to the server, I get this error: "Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Diagnostics.STrace, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91'

    I found some info at

    but this didn't help me because it is not on my system, even after reinstalling both SQL Server and .NET Framework 4.  I also saw a this page: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/1115cd55-721d-4974-99b1-d142d1e6a927,
    but this also didn't fix my problem.
    What can I do, or where can I get the missing assembley?
    Thanks in advance.

    You can get the missing assembly (Microsoft.SqlServer.Diagnostics.STrace.dll)
    by installing the "Shared Features" of SQL Server 2008.
    You could only install SQL Server 2008
    R2 (any edition) on Windows 7.
    Do not install more than 1 SQL Server 2008 R2 edition
    into the same computer; Some of the components are not compatible.
    E.g:  BIDS from R2 Express Advance edition cannot
    recognize Integration Service from R2 Enterprise Trial edition - it would throw above missing dll error.

    Hi All,
    I am using Virtual box to connect to Sharepoint 2013 VPC. Due to an unexpected sutdown of my machine the VPC got some issue. Now I restored it using my bak up file. But after this when I deploy my sharepoint 2013 farm solution Iam getting the following error.
    Error occurred in deployment step 'Recycle IIS Application Pool': Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified..
    Editing the web.config and adding dependentAssembly didnt worked for me.
    What could be the issue? Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
    Please try to do as follows:
    1. Check your farm solution whether reference the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll. Or try to add the Microsoft.SharePoint.dll into the bin folder.
    2. Execute the iisreset command.
    3. Create a new farm solution and check whether the issue still occurs or not.

    Hi All,
    While trying to access oracle database from SharePoint facing "Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess, Version=2.121.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89b483f429c47342' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
    How to fix this issue?  Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you get error while access oracle database in SharePoint.
    You can set “Enable 32-bit Applications” to true in the application pool for the web application, then check whether it works.

  • Could not load file or assembly "Oracle.DataAccess" or one of its dependencies

    Hi All,
      I am trying to run this web application. I keep getting this error
    "Could not load file or assembly "Oracle.DataAccess" or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."
    Exception details: System.BadImageFormatException. "Could not load file or assembly "Oracle.DataAccess" or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format."
    Below are the things that I already tried.
    1) replaced all the oracle dll's with 32 bit oracle dll i.e 2.112.3.0
    I have 32 bit client installed on 64 bit machine. The operating system is windows 7.
    2) compile each individual project individually. Deleted all the oracle dependent files dll and then added the 2.112.3.0 dll's individually and then compiled each project
    3) Register the 32 bit dll on GAC using this statement
    gacutil /i %ORA_HOME4%\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    gacutil /i %ORA_HOME4%\asp.net\bin\4\oracle.web.dll
    for the above two statements, I copied the gacutil.exe from c:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft sdk\windows\v7.0A\Bin\NETFX4.0 Tools\X64
    to C:\ drive and then
    I executed the above two statement:
    gacutil /i %ORA_HOME4%\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
    gacutil /i %ORA_HOME4%\asp.net\bin\4\oracle.web.dll
    when I excecuted the above two statements, I didn't get any message, I exceuted them in Dos windows under administrator privilege.
    4) I also deleted all the Temporary ASP.net files from this location
    c:\windows\Microsoft.Net\V4.0.30319\temporary ASP.net files
    I also changed the web application build Platform target to X86, Originally, it was at "ANy CPU". out of frustration, I also tried changing the platform target to X64 and then I got the error message saying
    " Cold not load file or assemble . webapp" or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
    I don't have IIS installed on my computer, I am running this application in visual studio 2010 so I think it will be using the inbuild IIS that comes with visual studio.
    I spend lot of hours resolving this issue, but still getting the same error again and again.
    any help or hint will be highly appreciated.

    You have a 32/64bit mismatch going on.
    Possibly the bit where you said you replaced the .dll's with 32 bit Oracle dll's is the source of the problem.
    You needs that Oracle.DataAccess managed wrapper to be able to locate the underlying oci client dlls of the appropriate version.
    The ODP .net install guide is very very good and thorough and straight forward to read and use and understand and explains how to achieve this.
    Also what is the target compile type of your VS project? That'll have to be 32 bit, or any as well.

  • Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies.

    I have updraded my pocket pc application from VS 2005 to VS 2008 and had to convert all the sqlce* files to 35 from 30. all upgraded System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll to version 3.5.0.0 and runtime version as v2.0.50727. My Target Framwork is .NET Framework 2.0.
    All the other sqlce* files are:
    sqlceca35.dll
    sqlcecompact35.dll
    sqlceer35EN.dll
    sqlceme35.dll
    sqlceoledb35.dll
    sqlceqp35.dll
    sqlcese35.dll
    The application is compiling without errors with the above dll's and creating its own webservice dll. the webservice dll is the copied to webserver which has the following dll's:
    sqlceca30.dll
    sqlcecompact30.dll
    sqlceer30EN.dll
    sqlceme30.dll
    sqlceoledb30.dll
    sqlceqp30.dll
    sqlcese30.dll
    and System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll as Assembly version 9.0.242.0 and file version as 3.0.5300.0.
    but when i try to run my application using the emulator, i get the following error:
     Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from
    HRESULT: 0x80131040)
    i cannot upgrade the dlls on the webserver as other apps are using the 30 dlls and if i try to use 30 dlls in my application, my application fails to build  on  System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll with Assembly version 9.0.242.0 and file
    version as 3.0.5300.0.
    i have spent a few days now trying to resolve this issue and none of the solutions provided on web have helped me so far. the application does not have app.config, but adding the following code to web.config did not help either:
    <
    runtime>
    <
    assemblyBinding
    xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1">
    <
    dependentAssembly>
    <
    assemblyIdentity
    name="System.Data.SqlServerCe"
    publicKeyToken="89845DCD8080CC91"
    culture="neutral"/>
    <
    bindingRedirect
    oldVersion="0.0.0.0-9.0.242.0"
    newVersion="3.5.0.0"/>
    </
    dependentAssembly>
    </
    assemblyBinding>
    </
    runtime>
    any help will be highly appreciated.

    The binary 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91'  is only to be used for windows desktop projects. For devices the PublicKeyToken is different and you should use the device
    binary "System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3be235df1c8d2ad3" to compile your device project.
    Also in addition to what Erik mentioned, please check if you have
    Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 for Windows Mobile installed on your machine.
