Counter output error

Hi all,
I wish to output my counter pulse to a waveform graph. However, I am getting an error:
Error -200673 occurred at DAQmx Write (Digital 1D Wfm NChan 1Samp).vi:1
Possible reason(s):
Measurements: Multiple samples cannot be written using a single sample write.
Ensure the waveform contains only a single sample.
Task Name: _unnamedTask<12>
Can anyone offer any help as to what's wrong with the code?

Hello Miika,
when using a counter to generate a pulse train, you only need to specify the frequency and duty cycle in the beginning with the DAQmx Create Channel VI or with the DAQmx Write Signal VI when you want to change the parameters. After that you can start the generation with the DAQmx Start VI, no need to do anything else. For more information please see the Hardware Input and Output -> DAQmx -> Generating Digital Pulses category in the Example Finder.
Also, if you generate the pulse train with the counter, you will only be able to see the waveform if you feed it back to one of the digital inputs.

i'm using a PCI-6602 to generate a range of different pulse trains / retriggered pulses. Ctr0 is running at the experiments base frequency (T0) and is configured like this:

This works in terms of gating, but the gated pulses are no longer synchronized with the Ctr0 (they "move" through the gate when looking at it on an oscilloscope).
DAQmxCfgDigEdgeStartTrig does not work for Ctr4 as it is not possible to use start and pause in the same task (at least that's what the error message said).
I tried to synchronize using:

Error = DAQmxSetDigEdgeArmStartTrigSrc(TriggerTaskHandle, "/Dev1/Ctr0InternalOutput");

which works if i uncomment the three PauseTrig lines (no more drifting pulses, but no gating either). Using it all together produces no errors but the gated pulses still walk through the gating window.

thank you for your reply. I finally managed to get the 6602 to do what i want it to. The key was to use
Error = DAQmxSetDigEdgeArmStartTrigSrc(TriggerTaskHandle, "/Dev1/Ctr2InternalOutput");
instead of
Error = DAQmxSetDigEdgeArmStartTrigSrc(TriggerTaskHandle, "/Dev1/Ctr0InternalOutput");
and to make sure that Ctr4s task was started after the tasks of Ctr0 and Ctr2.
Now Counter 4 is pulsing at the frequency of Ctr0 (even with selectable delay and pulse width) but only when Ctr3Out is high without the need for an external AND gate or other hardware.

But this has been going on for over 10 mins .
I can not verify disk or repair disk .
I have tried to reinstall mavericks operating system but it says my hard drive is locked which is very strange .
Does anyone know what is going on here ?

Could be. The "lock" isn't actually looking for a password.
WARNING: This will completely erase the ENTIRE hard drive.
What you would need to do is boot to recovery > disk utility > select the MAIN drive on the left side > partition > change partition layout from CURRENT to 1 PARTITION > ensure on the right side it says Format : Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) then push APPLY.
Then if it will allow us, close the windows until you see the 4 options popup again and select "Reinstall Mac OS X" select the Mac HD and you should be good to go!

Output Error Counts

Hello, I'm seeing the same number of output errors across multiple ports on one of our Nexus pairs. Each port has the same vlan in common and I'm wondering if there is any way to narrow down exactly where these errors are starting. From what I've read it's most likely a bad packet since many if not all of the 'show interface counters errors' are zeroed out. Would a sniffer be needed? If so what exactly would I be searching for? I think I need a little clarification for your request to better answer your question. Are you trying to count both rising and falling edges in a specific time period, or are you just trying to count the falling edges (errors) in a specific time period?

If you need deterministic timing using an external clock, I would recommend using the Counter – Count Edges (Continuous Clock) example.
If you do not need the deterministic timing, you could just use the software timed Counter – Count Edges example.
For either example you will need to create a constant (or control) for the edge input on the DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi. You will need to specify Falling as the edge type because rising is the default value.

Can I generate pulse trains on more than one counter output at the same time?

I have a PCI 6601 card with a BNC 2121 to connect the signals to two devices. The card is used as a trigger for both devices and I want to be able to generate pulse trains on two output channels at the same time, with a time delay between the two. How do I do that in Labview 7.1 Development with DAQmx?

I feel foolish for not being able to figure this out, but it still doesn't work. Attached is the VI I use now. Counter 0 generates a finite pulse train and I programmed Counter 1 to generate a retriggerable single pulse triggered by CtrOinternaloutput. I still get the same error message: -50103 The specified resource is reserved. The operation could not be completed as specified.
The same happens if I set the trigger for counter 1 at PFI36 (default output of counter 0) or any other PFI line. If I try a pulse train generation on only one of the counters, both work fine.
If I try the example in traditional DAQ for multiple counter outputs with phase delay, it works fine.
Can you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Variable frequency counter output

I found this example of how to vary the frequency of a counter output, but it appears this is not supported and i receive the following error. Can anyone tell me if there is an alternative method at all? my device is a usb6341 which has 4 COs

If you found that code in an NI-provided example, it's probably more likely that the operation is not supported by your specific hardware.
What is the range of frequencies you want to create?
How accurate does the clock need to be?
How often will the frequency be changing?
Can the hardware receiving the clock tolerate and "discontinuities" in the pulse train?
You could momentarily stop the clock, change the setting and then restart it.

Please help with C code to synchronize counter output to analog input

Hi All,
I am using NI DAQ USB-6353 with text-based C code to control it. I would like to send a continuous pulse train from the DAQ to pulse a power supply, which then activates an electron beam producing current to be read by the analog input port of the same DAQ. I would like to keep only the analog samples during the pulse peak and samples of a couple pulse widths right after. I am successfully to generate a pulse train using the sampled clock from a counter output channel, but fail to use the same clock to synchronize the pulse train with the analog input. DAQmxReadAnalogF64 is not called by the static function EveryNCallback set for the analog input task. Am I doing something wrong with the following codes? It would be great if it turns out only I am using the wrong sampled clock name of the counter ("dev1/PFI8") for the analog input. Or is something more fundamental that a counter cannot be sync. with an analog input?
Would someone be able to send me a link to an example in C or C++ or visual basic showing how to synchronize a buffered sample clocked digital pulse train from a counter output channel to an analog input? To simplify the post, the below codes do not include the static functions EveryNCallback and DoneCallBack, but I can send them if needed.

Thank you very much for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. I followed your advice with the option 2 and simplified my code by using one of the NI C example templates to generate the below codes (also attached). I was able to see the pulses generated with an oscilloscope, and on the same oscilloscope I could see the ouput pulses of the electron beam probe. Unfortunately, the below code via DAQmxReadAnalogF64 reports of no data read from the probe and finally times out. Below is the error message given by this function. I did check the connection of the analog input wires to make sure they were connected to pin 1 (A0+) and 2 (A0-) because I was using the terminal configuration DAQmx_Val_Diff. Do you see any obvious errors I have made in my codes?

Setting the counter output mastertimebase divider?

I want to output single short pulses with varying pauses. My MuFu DAQ card has 20 MHz master clock rate and 24 bit counter (Good ol'6052E). When I try to output 1 µs with a pause duration of more than 839 ms, I get an error due to mismatch of clockrate and counter bit size with short and long duration. This is explained in great detail in the corresponding help:
2/ counter clock rate <= X <= 2^24 / counter clock rate. with counter clock rate = master clock rate / divider
0.1 µs <= X <= 16777215 / 20Mhz = 839 ms
I could strech my limits by manually setting the CO.CounterTimebaseMasterTimebaseDivider to 10. But I've searched all property nodes I could find but I have not found this property.
Does anyone know where it is hidden, and to which values it can be set?

Hi Michael,
Unfortunately that property doesn't exist. There are a few "Divisor" properties available for other subsystems (e.g. see Analog Input timing block diagram below).
However, you'll notice in the above diagram that the valid divisors of the master timebase are only 1 or 200 (which then gives the AI Sample Clock Timebase). You can get similar behavior on the counter by specifying to use the 20 MHz timebase or 100 kHz timebase for your source. However, using the 100 kHz (1/10 us) timebase is going to prevent you from properly generating the narrow 1 us pulses that you require.
So, you can use 20 MHz or 100 kHz without any additional resources, but 100 kHz wouldn't allow you to have a 1 us pulse, and 20 MHz won't let you have a high or low time of greater than ~839 ms. You could generate frequencies in between these to use as the counter timebase (either use the frequency output or use the second counter to generate the desired frequency, or perhaps configure a dummy analog task) but of course there would always be a tradeoff between the resolution of the pulse and the maximum time between pulses.
If you do have the 2nd counter available, here is my suggestion to get the best of both worlds:
1. Configure a counter output to generate a pulse every N seconds (I suggest configuring the output to generate at 1/N frequency at 50% duty cycle). When you configure this counter, DAQmx will choose an appropriate timebase for you. When N is less than ~1.67 seconds, DAQmx will use the 20 MHz timebase (since both the high and low time would be under the 839 ms). When N is > 1.67 seconds but below ~335 seconds, DAQmx will use the 100 kHz timebase. If you intend on modifying the rate of the output (to something above 1.67 seconds) after the task has started you would need to make sure to specify to use the 100 kHz timebase rather than relying on the DAQmx default. You can't use a built-in timebase if you want to generate a delay greater than 335 seconds, but if you wanted to you could handle this case by checking for it and configuring the frequency output to generate an even lower timebase.
2. To generate the actual output signal, configure a retriggerable single pulse generation to be triggered off of the signal generated above. This signal will be based off of the 20 MHz timebase (assuming you configure a pulse width less than ~839 ms) and so will give you a good resolution on the available pulse widths that you can generate.
In summary, doing this would let you decouple the resolution of your generated pulse width from the resolution of the delay between the pulses. The downside is that it uses two counters.
The other option which I previously mentioned (and what you were asking about) would be to find a timebase that meets the two requirements: 1) fast enough to generate a narrow pulse and 2) slow enough to not roll-over between pulses. You have 100 kHz and 20 MHz available to you, but you can generate intermediate frequencies using the frequency output. If you plan on using a counter to generate the timebase instead, you should consider the other option which decouples the two counters.
Of course, using a device with a higher counter resolution (most newer DAQ devices use 32-bit counters) would probably also resolve your issue depending on the full range of delays that you need. The downside here is the cost of new hardware.

Argument count mismatch error: Expected 1, got 0.

I am writing a datagridcolumn array to the cookie, and upon retreiving the user data it immediately throws "argument count mismatch error: Expected 1, got 0" on MediaGridColumnInfo(). I assume there is a disconnect between what I am saving and what is expected to receive.
this is how I am saving the array:

I think you can't have required constructor parameters in objects that get
serialized.

External Hard Drive Input/Output error

I recently started having problems with an external hard drive setup that I did not have problems with prior to upgrading to 10.5.5 and trying to setup the drive to be compatible with Time Machine.
The hard drive enclosure that I have has 2 bays for two SATA drives. I have used this enclosure without any problems until I tried to get 1 drive to act as the backup drive for Time Machine and the other to be storage. I formatted them using Drive Genius. I used the option for GUILD or GUIL which it said was the better format for using with Time Machine.
The first problem I ran into since upgrading and reformatting the drives is I got an "input/output" error the first couple times I connected the drive via USB to my Mac. I could still use the drives but I got weird errors every once in a while like "input/output error" or "device was not ejected properly" even though the device had not been unplugged.
Now the drives will not mount using OS 10.5.5. The drives show up when I open Disk Utility, but I cannot get them to mount. I have ran Disk Utility First Aid, and it says the drives are fine. There is one error that shows up when I run the "Repair Disk" feature. It reads "Invalid content in Journal". But Disk Utility also says "The volume was repaired successfully".
I have seen some posts when I do a search in google about this issue and it seems this is a known issue. Every suggestion I see says to insert your Tiger DVD and reformat the drive using that and the problem will be solved. The only problem with that is I have a lot of important files on the drive that I cannot lose. I had the files backed up until I moved them to the new drive a while back. Now I do not have a backup because I was in the process of switching to bigger drives and erased the old drives after doing so because everything was working fine.
I am hoping someone out there may have some suggestions (other than erasing the drive) to get my dives to mount so I can transfer the data off to another drive and reformat after.

Do you think that would work better than Drive Genius? I bought Drive Genius 2 and it does not even see the drives when they are plugged in unlike Disc Utility which can see the drives but cannot mount either one.
Maybe this following post I made to a different questions may help. The data on the drive is other buying another program for if it will work. I think my next step may be to go over to a friends place and try to mount the drives on his computer and transfer stuff off if they connect.

I have recently had the same mounting issue with my new external hard drive. I just purchased a new 750Gb Western Digital Sata drive and got everything transfered over to it. Immediately, I got an error saying that the drive had been ejected incorrectly even though it was still plugged in. I was a little curious. I restarted the computer (hard drive still plugged in via USB 2.0) and the drive showed up just fine. I plugged another 250Gb drive into the same case (2 bays) and the 250GB drive showed up just fine.
Well, I then noticed there was an OS upgrade available when I ran Software update so i ran it and when I rebooted the drives were gone. I can see the drives in Disc Utility, but they will not mount. Drive Genius cannot see either disc. Disc Utility says I need to repair the drives, but when I do it says they are fixed but they don not mount.
The problem really seems to be related to mounting USB external drives. I got ahold of 2 seperate external firewire hard drives and one shows up just fine while the other has the same problem (both work on other systems. I would try wiping the drives and reformatting but ALL MY stuff is on them and not everything has been backed up. Yuck! I have not tried connecting my hard drive to another Mac yet.
The drives being used are #1 Maxtor Maxline Plus II 250GB SATA/150 HDD 1.5b/s 7Y250m00654ra
and #2 Western Digital WD7500AACS WD Caviar GP Green Power drive.
I have another post similar to this and I have not received any feedback, but I have been doing my own searching and have found similar posts on the net.
Anybody have any clue what might be going on here? It really seems to be related to my upgrade.

We are getting the following error when running our SSIS packages on Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1:
Error: 4014, Severity:20, State: 11. A fatal error occurred while reading the input stream from the network. The session will be terminated (input error: 109, output error: 0)
SQL Server Data Tools and SQL Server Database Engine reside on the same server.
We tried the following:
Disabling TCP Chimney Offload
Installed Windows Server 2008 SP1
Splitting our SSIS code into multiple steps so it is not all one large continuous operation
The error occurs during a BulkDataLoad task.
Other options we are investigating with the engineering team (out-sourced, so delayed responses):
Firewall configurations (everything is local, so this should not make a difference)
Disabling the anti-virus scanner
Are there other things we can try?
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Based on the current information, the issue can be caused by many reasons. Please refer to the following tips:
Install the latest hotfix based on your SQL Server version. Ps: there is no SQL Server 2012 R2 version.
Change the MaxConcurrentExecutables property from -1 to another one based on the MAXDOP. For example, 8.
Set "RetainSameConnection" Property to FALSE on the all the connection managers.

Disc image input/output error

When burning a disc image using disc utility, I get the ever so popular input/output error message. I cannot find anywhere on these posts a solution to this problem. It is not dirty discs, etc. It happens when I try to copy dvd's... which are not licensed, etc.

Could be so many things, Input/Output errors are generally loosing contact with a device for a variety of reasons, do you get any error # with that?
Open Console in Utilities & watch for more info whn you try to burn, or open the Disk Utility Log if there.

"input/output error' when making disc image from DVD

I've had problems installing Logic, and a Pro Apps Genius at Applecare suggested I try making an image of the problematic DVD (Audio Content 1) and then trying an install that way.
While I can make an image of the Install disc to my desktop fine, the Audio Content 1 disc reports an "input/output error".
This means I'm unable to copy the disc and then successfully install my Logic Studio.
Any ideas?

Yes, I thought that might be the case - but I'd taken my Mac and Logic disks to a Genius bar, and the 'Genius' had said he'd fixed the issue. I just wish he'd explained what he did and why he didn't replace the faulty disk(s)!
But is there any way around having the claim a disk, now I'm living abroad and my 'warrantee' has run out? It's going to be a pain in the fundament trying to claim a replacement set.

Input/output error when copying a DVD

I created A DVD some time ago using Roxio. It plays in DVD Player on my Mac Pro, but I can't create a .dmg using Disk Utility. I always get "Input/Output error". I got the same result on my wife's newer Apple. I tried to Restore it but can't, and Verification shows no problems that I can see. I am able to copy DVDs created on Final Cut Express just fine. Any suggestions to help me create copies of an old DVD I love?

I just figured out how to get around the problem. Download Burn and use it to burn the VIDEO_TS file to a new disk. It must be something that Apple adds to make it hard to copy DVDs made from non-Apple software.

Am getting PCM output error message when trying to play a video from iPad2 on my TV

The movie was purchased on iTunes store. I connected the iPad2 through the adapter via HDMI straight to the TV and I have a Bose Lifestyle system for surround 5.1 sound. After a few minutes and every few minutes after that the movie would blur and blackout then it would come back. Eventually I got a PCM OUTPUT error message onscreen. How do I resolve this problem?

I have been able to open a few items in iTunes, but have not been able to play even those videos from my Apple TV. I can airplay them from the computer, but cannot access them directly from Apple TV. This is a bit frustrating.
