Counting clicks in Captivate 7.

Is there a way to count the number of clicks a learner did to accomplish a task in Captivate 7?  EG:  It should take 5 clicks to complete a task but the learner did 10 clicks.  I want to know that to evaluate how well they did.

That will work, but there are some considerations…
The cursor will always be a hand (or whatever it changes to when it’s over a clickable object), unless you modify the properties of the cursor or the big rectangle.
If you program distractors, you’d want to have another multiple-line advanced action which would respond to the incorrect click as well as increment the v_clicks variable.
This will only allow there to be 2 objects- so if you wanted there to be a series of events for the user to complete on one slide, this would not capture all the clicks appropriately, it would not account for clicks on objects other than the body of the slide. For example, if you had a drop-down menu, a text box and a check box that needed to be selected, and then the user should click a button, you wouldn’t be able to count any clicks in the menu, text box or checkbox… only those that landed ‘outside’ of those objects. You could build some workarounds, but they’ll get more complicated (ie. when menu = something-other-than-desired-selection, increment the v_clicks variable.
You could get around the multiple-step interaction problem above if you have multiple slides, with only one object per slide… but then you’ll force the learner into a linear path for completing the process, and a lot of times a user can make selections in any order.
Of course there always workarounds, but it just gets more and more complicated.
Lieve, clickable objects have a “number of attempts” property, which suggests that CP is tracking the number of off-target “attempts” – is there a way to harness that to track the number of off-target clicks??

  • Right Click in captivate

    Hi, I am having to create a software sumulation,
    demonstrating the
    right-click. I have found a document - right-click2 - on the
    Adobe >
    Captivate > Articles web site, but when i implement and
    right click, I am
    not only getting up the sub menu that I am expects, but also
    one which
    contains three items : Created with Adobe Captivate, Settings
    and About
    Macromedia Flash player 8.
    Is there any way to stop this
    thanks

    Hi Alex,
    This one is the biggest of all bugbears to Captivate users.
    There are a number of ways to accomplish the right click in
    Captivate but they all require coding or playing with the html
    after publishing. The most successful one is by adding a javascript
    layer on top of the flash player to capture the right click before
    it gets to the player. This works but I found it unsustainable for
    our 100s of captivate movies.
    The reply from Adobe is that they have to have right click
    menu for copyright reasons so there is no way to turn it off. You
    can cut down the number of options in it but not get rid of it
    easily (see above).
    I tend to have an animation of a mouse with the right button
    flashing and get the users to left click the right mouse button.
    Not that elegant but it gets the message across nicely. It's either
    that or a lot of pain.
    I'll send you the graphic if you think it'd be helpful.
    Cheers

  • Mouse Clicks in Captivate

    I have a number of captivate animations that have mouse

    the 'click' audio does not consistently work. Is there a trick to
    setting the audio click.
    I am using Captivate V2.0.0 build 1177

    Hi Mike Wald and welcome to our community
    Sorry, but I'm a bit confused by your post. Which is true?
    Are you saying that a mouse click is heard and you don't want
    it to be? If so, take a look at the links below:
    Link One
    Link
    Two
    Or is it that you
    want to hear mouse clicks and are not? In this case, other
    than checking each mouse movement, I'm a bit stumped.

  • Can I use a "clicker" in Captivate?

    Couldn't find this answer anywhere, so I hope someone can help me.
    I am using Captivate 5 and am generating presentations that basically work as PPT slideshows. These presentations do include forward and back buttons. They are used by both single users on a desktop and trainers on an overhead projector. The trainers want to be able to use a presentation "clicker" so they can move through the presentation the same way you can in PPT. They don't want to be tied to the desktop and using a mouse or keyboard to progress through.
    I don't know how to fix this besides moving things back to PPT. (Which I really, really, REALLY don't want to do...)
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi there
    As I understand it, the "clicker" doesn't simulate a mouse at all. Unless, of course, you purchased one that DOES have a mouse function.
    Basically what these devices do is to transmit the equivalent of the Page Down and Page Up keys. So if you assign the Page Down or Page Up as shortcut keys on your Previous and Next buttons, the clicker should function to navigate the Captivate output as it does for PowerPoint.

  • How to enable right-click in Captivate 6

    When right-clicked, shows the following error:
    Error: Error #1502: A script has executed for longer than the default timeout period of 15 seconds.

    Are you launching the SWF via the HTML file or just double-clicking on the SWF?
    For right click to work you need the following:
    Turn OFF Accessibility in Preferences
    Add a click box somewhere in the movie with Right Click set as the event to trigger some action.
    Publish to HTML/SWF and make sure the JS file is also present in the output folder.
    Set the publish folder location as a trusted location in Flash Global Security.
    Test publish and your right click should now work.

  • Control / Click and Shift /Click in Captivate

    I am currently using Captivate 6.1 (and reviewing 7.0) to develop simulation training.  Many applications have a requirement to hold down the control or shift key while clicking a click box.  Can anyone tell me if this has been sorted in 7.0 or if there is any way to handle this?  I have tried using Flash animations but this too provides layering challenges when the interaction after the shift or control click is in the same area as the shift or control click (which is normally the case).

    You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

  • Right click on Captivate 8 compatible with Google Chrome ?

    Hello all,
    I produce an e-learning tutorial having a lot of right clicks to do (i am working on Captivate 8).
    However, when I publish the content, right click works on Internet Explorer, but not on Google Chrome (accessibility desactivated).
    Is there any solution ?
    Thanking you in advance for your answer,
    Kind regards,
    Ioanna

    Ok, the link that you have provided did not help me very much.
    I needed to delete my profile on this machine, but after that I got stucked with error:
    You've been signed in with a temporary profile.
    You can't access your files, and files created in this profile will be deleted when you sign out.
    To fix this, sign out and try signing in later. Please see the event log for more details or contact your system administrator.
    I've used this solution:
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/38817-you-ve-been-signed-temporary-profile-fix.html, which partly solved my problem (temporary profile error dissappeared), but ran into new problems, for example when I search and click for region settings I recieve
    this error in printscreen:
    Although I have managed that settings thru Control Panel/Region, but recieving upper error a little bit concerns me. Any hints?
    With best regards

  • Right Clicking in Captivate 7

    I'm using Captivate 7 and have some right click boxes in a simulation.  When I preview in web browser, they work fine.  When I publish with Enable Accessability turned Off, and preview in IE, they become inactive.  Am I missing something?

  • Click functionality that counts clicks

    Hi there,
      I've been trying to figure this out for a while now but haven't gotten anywhere.
      I want to be able to click a button in Edge Animate once, have it make a symbol do something, then click it again, and then have the symbol do something different.
      Basically I want to be able to count the number of clicks the user does with a variable and then make an if/else based on the number that the count variable is. (Unless there's a better way?)
      If anyone has any idea of how to do this as a jumping off point I'd be very grateful. Thank you!!

    Do you have one symbol with several labels?
    Here is a possible way:
    i=-1;
    $(document).click(function(event){
      $(event.target).closest(".clickable").each(function(){
        i++;
        if(i==0){
         sym.getSymbol('ani').play('color');
    sym.getSymbol('ani').$('info').html('color');
        if (i==1){
         sym.getSymbol('ani').play('move');
    sym.getSymbol('ani').$('info').html('move');
        if (i==2){
        sym.getSymbol('ani').play('change');
    sym.getSymbol('ani').$('info').html('change');
        } else{

  • Right Click in Captivate 7

    Hi,
    I've enabled a right-click function to continue a slide. This functionally works correctly on a mac, but on a pc it brings up the flash menu and the user can't continue unless they click the play bar at the bottom. I've tried the following from a previous post but it doesn't correct the issue:
    For right click to work you need the following:
    Turn OFF Accessibility in Preferences (done)
    Add a click box somewhere in the movie with Right Click set as the event to trigger some action. (done)
    Publish to HTML/SWF and make sure the JS file is also present in the output folder. (done - published to connect server)
    Set the publish folder location as a trusted location in Flash Global Security. (done)
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    -dave
    UPDATE
    Seems the right click works in the HTML5 version but not the SWF version.

    Hi There,
    Please make sure that under Edit > Preferences > Project > Publish settings > Enable Accessibility option needs to be unchecked in order to make right click work.
    Also you can try to set the publish folder location as a trusted location in your Flash Global Security settings by going to Control Panel > Flash Player > Click on Advanced and scroll down > Trusted location settings > Add > Add Folder > Add C Drive > Confirm > Close. Then publish your project on your desktop and check the result.

  • Multiple Mouse Clicks in Captivate?

    hi,
    i'm trying to get a mouse to click twice on one slide... is
    this possible? if it's not, how do i get it to advance seemlessly
    to the next slide?
    thanks

    Welcome to the user community, tdelman. The mouse can have
    only a single beginning point and ending point on any one slide. To
    move to the next slide - where the mouse will begin where it ended
    on the prior slide - do nothing. When the slide ends on the first
    slide, it will (to use your word) "seamlessly" move to the
    following slide with no action on your part.
    Hope this helps.

  • Actionscript 3 Button that counts clicks

    I know I am a total noob to flash, but is there a way to make a button that has a number that goes up each time you click it in actionscript 3? If so please HELP ME!!!

    Ok, so here is the code I have:
    stop();
    var clickCount:int = 0;
    btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, addClick);
    function addClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
          clickCount++;
    _clickTxt.text = " SCORE:"+clickCount.toString();
    When i run the program, I see the text box says "SCORE: 0" and when I click the button nothing happens. Is there some sort of way I need to update the string after every click?

  • Single click in a double click box

    Captivate 3.
    I have two click boxes; one set for a single click and the
    other for a double click. Both have failure captions. When I single
    click in the box set for a double click, nothing happens. It
    appears to be ignored. I would like the failure caption for the
    double click box to display if the user clicks only once inside the
    box. Is this possible?

    Hi jimclennon and welcome to our community
    I doubt you will be able to accomplish this easily. Failure
    captions normally appear when you define a click box area and click
    outside the area. As you are clicking
    inside a click box area, but only clicking once, Captivate
    probably isn't sensing a wrong action is occurring.
    This is something you may wish to submit as a feature request

  • Can't get tab to work after a click box

    I have no problem getting the tab to work after a text entry but when I insert a click box and tab the tab feature isn't working.  I do have tab set as short cut in Actions on properties of click box.

    Captivate 7 allows you to configure the tab order for all interactive objects on a slide.
    Select the slide and look for the Tab Order button at the top of the Properties tab.
