Counting pulses and measuring flow rate per second
Hi everyone
I am using a compactField Point (cFP-2220) controller to measure the flow rate. The flow sensor that i have, gives the output in terms of the pulses. I need to count the number of pulses for a particular interval and divide it by a K-factor( constant value) to get the flow rate. If i select the interval to be of a second, i would want to count number of pulses per second and divide it by K-factor to get flow rate ( per second).
How do i count pulses per second and consequently measure flow rate using this count and K-factor.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.

You may be able to use the Edit Tempo function to work this out. With you waveform in Edit view Right Click on the time scale at bottom of waveform and select Bars and Beats display. Select a number of beats by highlighting with the cursor. Then again on the Time bar select Edit Tempo. In that dialogue you can try clicking on Extract to find the Tempo ie. beats per minute. Also you can try adjusting the tempo by entering avalue manually to see how close that gets to your waveform.
Haven't used this function of Audition much so you may have to refer to the help file to find out more about it.

There are 86400 seconds in a day. The query you are using divides all commits and rollback transactions by the time the system has been up and running in seconds. Hence, transactions per second...... tps.....

On one of our Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise (SP1) servers, we're noticing a strange phenomenon.....that the svchost.exe that hosts "Dhcp, eventlog, lmhosts" is constantly generating page faults....a few thousand per second, accumulating to billions of total
page faults. I/O reads and I/O other are also rising every second. Cpu is consistently 2%, and memory is constant. (~40M).
I'm guessing that it's the eventlog service because our HP openview log reader (opcle.exe) is also working hard to keep up. I've searched for others posting a similar problem but am coming up empty handed.
This is a MS Analysis Services 2008 server, but we haven't noticed any problems coming from SSAS. We have other file sharing-related jobs that interact with this server, that sometimes take 30 min and sometimes 6 hours, for the same workload....and
we're thinking that the 6 hour runs are somehow related to this process's unusual page faults.
Anyone else seen this eventlog strange behavior?

in both order & invoice programs and then use these fields in condition tables.
OR you can determine your conditions based on plant and define calculation routine to calculate condiiton value based on forwarding agent -

We wish to count the number of pulses we obtain for a few seconds (5-10 for example) and then use this value to obtain a pulse rate in beats per minute (e.g. 10 pulses in the first 10 seconds would give an estimated BPM of 60 etc etc).
Does anybody have ides on how we could implement this? We have tried timed loops, elapsed time VI's and other things but nothing gives us what we need.

Jeshua Graham.We are very new to Labview. We are taking a raw signal from our DAQ and then using VIs to filter and then trigger counts on rising edges. I have attached our vi file to this post for you to look at (I hope that is what you mean by code).

I can read a pulse from my parallel port, coming from a fan rpm cable
I like to count how many pulses I got per second. anybody knows how I do this the best?
or any other suggestions? It is for reading the fan's rpm trough that parallel port

First I would sign out of Mail right away.
Second I would go to your email's website and sign into there. Examples... icloud.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com and whatever you use. Just to see if it's happening there. If it is happening there, then I strongly suggest changing your email address and whatever website you used it on for login information.
If it's not happening there, then hopefully when you sign back into Mail it won't happen again. If it does happen again, let us know. I wouldn't be able to help but maybe someone else could.

Problems Reading gas meter flow rate ni 9402 counter

I have been trying to overcome the problem of the delay were a value is retained at the output of the counter for a period after the gas meter has stopped. This is causing me a problem as I am feeding this value into an integrator to get a measurement of energy used.(in the system I have other inputs such as gas pressure, barometric pressure and temperature)
To solve this I decided to use the quadrature encoder input. I have taken the pulses from the gas meter and built a ripple counter from two JK flip flops (with logic to convert output to gray code) I have also added extra gates to counter propagation delay in the circuit. I am using a line driver IC SN75158PE4 at the output of the circuit. Can you see any problem with this method. I only ask because if I use X1 mode I get intermittent reading as in 0, reading, 0 reading etc. If I use X2 mode I get a value that I believe is correct but am still unsure about it. and in X4 mode I get a value that is lower than expected.?Some ideas:
Monitor the raw DIO data showing the pulses, to make sure there are no spurious pulses after the flow is stopped or if there is any "bouncing" of the signal that might give a false hgh flow as the flow drops to zero - if there are you'll need to find something to deal with that.
What is the max/min range of pulse speeds you are working with and are the default clocks used in the counters and the update rate for your flow / energy calculations are all approrpiate - if you do the calcs faster the "delay" should be smaller ?
Are you using DAQmx channels or DAQassistant to do programming - using DAQmx will give you much more flexibility on how the measurements are processed, and may be better
I presume you are using a counter to produce a frequency output - if you switch to outputing the counter value itself, this will be the cumulative flow over time and that might be useable directly in your energy calculation without having to do an integration (assuming you are using the frequency to give flow rate (e.g. litres per second) which is being integrated). This might eliminate both any delay in seeing the measurement change and the effect of a delay on the integration.

How do I get the 1121 card to read the switch and make it a 1 or 0 to count pulses?

I am developing a test stand to test tires. We have LabView 7.1 and the SCXI chassis with an 1121 transducer card. I am trying to count the rate and total number of revolutions made by the tire. The signal is acquired from a 12V-proximity switch that is actuated once per RPM. The tire turns at 1,000 RPM or a little more.
The signal will have to go through a 100-foot cable to get to the LabView chassis, will this be a problem?
How do I get the 1121 card to read the switch and make it a 1 or 0 to count pulses?
Will LabView be able to read this many pulses per second?
How do I get MPH and a RPM reading out of it?

Since you are cabling your DAQ board to an SCXI chassis with an 1121, you will not be able to use your counters without additional hardware.
The 1121 is an analog input signal conditioning module. It performs filtering and attenuation to help measure analog signals. What it does not have is access to your board's counter pins.
In order to use your counter pins you will need to get the necessary hardware. You have two options:
1) Buy and SCB-68. This is a breakout box that will cable directly to your DAQ board replacing your SCXI chassis. You can connect your signals directly to your counter with this. However, I would advise against this because your application has a 12 volt signal. This will overload the 5v maximum voltage for your counter pins.
2) Buy a 1180 feedthrough panel. This will allow you to use all of your DAQ board's functions with the SCXI chassis. Withouth the 1180 feedthrough panel, the SCXI-1121 is the only thing connected to your DAQ board. Since the 1121 only performs conditioning on the analog inputs, that is all you can access. The other pins cannot be used (no access). With the 1180 feedthrough panel, you can put a connector block on and access all of your other pins (including the counter pins). Again, I would advise against this since your 12 volt signal will overload your counter pins.
My suggestion would be to perform an analog input task. Set up your 1121 in MAX and use a LabVIEW shipping example. In the shipping example select an analog input channel from your SCXI-1121 module. Set the appropriate voltage range and take some measurements. Once your signal is connected and you can read it using an analog input example you are half way there.
Take the analog input shipping example and modify it to perform frequency analysis on the voltage readings. You can simply wire the data from the DAQmxRead VI into one of the frequency analysis VI's (noted in my first post). The output if that VI will give you the frequency of your signal.

CO Pulse Frequency doesn't actually generate 1 Pulse per Second?

I have a VI layed out in the attachment below. I seem to have a lack of understanding on how to program this VI here. I just don't understand what is possibly going wrong.
The VI is very basic. The frequency has been set to 1, and the units are Hertz. To me, this means that the program should send one pulse to my linear actuator ONCE per second. I have a simple pulse counter set up in the VI as well to count how many pulses are actually being sent (using the DAQ assistant). Why is it that when I run the program, I get around 300 pulses per second? Raising the value makes it goes slightly faster, but lowering the value doesn't really make it go any slower. There seems to be no real correlation between the input frequency and the actual number of pulses that are sent.
I just simply want a program that I can input "1 pulse per second" or however many pulses I want per second and have the card send ONE pulse per second (or however many is input). Where do I start? I have a whole program written out and ready to go, but this basic concept here completely eludes me.

Inside that loop, you configure the pulse task, start it, then immediately stop and clear it. You need to create the channel and configure the timing outside the while loop, before it starts, and you need to clear the task outside the loop as well, after the while loop terminates. Depending on what you want to do, you may be able to move the task start outside the loop as well, or just let the task auto-start.
You'll need to restructure your VI a bit. I can't tell if you want to clear the task after each step, or just change the frequency. If it's just the frequency, you can use DAQmx Write to change it; if you need to start and stop the task, you'll need some logic to do that once each time you want to restart (you may get an error if you start a task that's already running). There's no need for "Is Task Done?" since you're not using the output for anything.
EDIT: Also, it is always a good idea to put a wait inside loops that execute indefinitely. Otherwise they will spin as fast as possible, consuming all available processor time and preventing other code from running. If you configure your counter task properly the loop timing won't affect the pulse rate (because that's done in hardware) but there's no need to run the loop that fast. -
How do I measure the period of one TTL signal and the delay until a second TTL signal?

I have a PCI 6024E board, the SCB-68 terminal box and am running LabView 6.1. If needed I could install 7.1.
I have two Honeywell sensors (HOA7720) which each consist of an infrared transmitter and a infrared reciever. When the beam is broken they output 5V, when the beam is open it outputs 0V. These are sensing the presence of a hole in two discs passing thru the sensors.
So as disc 1 rotates the signal is 5V until the hole passes thru sensor 1, then it drops to 0V until the hole passes. Then it jumps back to 5 V.
Disc 2 is rotating at exactly the same RPM as disc 1 because they are coupled with a spring loaded coupling. There is a delay between the first hole passing thru sensor 1 and the second hole passing thru sensor 2. The delay increases with torque.
Using the oscilliscope function and connecting Signal1 and Signal2 to AIn0 and AIn1, I have verified that the TTL signals are there. So electrically everything is working. I just need to know how to measure the period and delay. I'm familiar with A/D, but not with counters/gates etc and I think that's what is required here.
The first measurement needed is RPM. Somehow I need to measure the period of the TTL signal.
The second measurement needed is the delay between the 1st falling edge and the 2nd falling edge.
I don't think it's possible to use the millisecond timer for anything, because the accuracy wouldn't be good enough. At 3600RPM the disc will spin 60 revs per second, or one every 17ms. A resolution of 17 samples per revolution is not good enough.

I ended up figuring it out today. It's really simple. I went analog in to AIn14 and AIn15 which were free. Then the program does a multichannel scan of the signals (collects array of 2 waveforms), Signal 1 and Signal 2 at some scan rate. I used 100,000 S/s for 10,000 samples. Then I split the array into two separate waveforms. Then I did an edge detect on each one and it returns the position in the array where the falling edge occurs. The difference is the delay (after correcting for the scan rate), unless Sig2 comes first in which case the delay is the period - (or +) the difference
To find the period I used a subset of the Signal 1 waveform from the first falling edge on to the end of the waveform, then did the same edge detect except set the reset setting to true instead of false so it wouldn't detect the low signal which was now at the position 0 in the waveform. So it would ignore the initial low value, wait for it to go high, then detect the falling edge position.
Anyway, it works awesome, seems very accurate and gives very stable readings. 3600rpm no problem. It detects changes of one or two degrees in angular position, with a range from ~145 degrees to ~280 degrees -
Synchronisation of PCs using pulse per second

I would like to synchronise several Personal Computers and some external hardware using a Pulse per Second (PPS) signal. In this configuration one PC or the external hardware shall generate the PPS (PPS master). Other PCs and other hardware shall count the PPS pulses (PPS slave). All PCs shall count the fraction of seconds since the last PPS pulse with a resolution of 1ms or higher.
To realise this PPS network, I consider the usage the NI Counter card PCI-6601/2. Could anyone answer a series of question please?

Is it possible to configure the PCI card to generate interrupt pulses with a frequency of 100Hz when the PCI card is configured as PPS master? The interrupt pulses must be synchronous to the PPS. That means every 100th interrupt shall fall together with the PPS.
Is it possible to configure the PCI card to generate interrupt pulses with a frequency of 100Hz when the PCI card is configured as PPS slave?
How complicated is it to use this interrupt in a user application under Windows 2K/XP and Linux? Does the PCI card driver provide a simple mechanism like a blocking function call that returns when the PCI card generates an interrupt?
I’m also open for other solutions for my problem.
I consider a PCI card with a FPGA. I could implement the PPS logic very easily in VHDL. However, I don’t want waste time to get a PCI VHDL core running or writing software drivers to synchronise the applications with the PPS. Any useful comments would help.
