Problems Reading gas meter flow rate ni 9402 counter

2015/07/13
Can any one help with this?
I have been trying to overcome the problem of the delay were a value is retained at the output of the counter for a period after the gas meter has stopped. This is causing me a problem as I am feeding this value into an integrator to get a measurement of energy used.(in the system I have other inputs such as gas pressure, barometric pressure and temperature)
To solve this I decided to use the quadrature encoder input. I have taken the pulses from the gas meter and built a ripple counter from two JK flip flops (with logic to convert output to gray code) I have also added extra gates to counter propagation delay in the circuit. I am using a line driver IC SN75158PE4 at the output of the circuit. Can you see any problem with this method. I only ask because if I use X1 mode I get intermittent reading as in 0, reading, 0 reading etc. If I use X2 mode I get a value that I believe is correct but am still unsure about it. and in X4 mode I get a value that is lower than expected.?

Some ideas:
Monitor the raw DIO data showing the pulses, to make sure there are no spurious pulses after the flow is stopped or if there is any "bouncing" of the signal that might give a false hgh flow as the flow drops to zero - if there are you'll need to find something to deal with that.
What is the max/min range of pulse speeds you are working with and are the default clocks used in the counters and the update rate for your flow /  energy calculations are all approrpiate - if you do the calcs faster the "delay" should be smaller ?
Are you using DAQmx channels or DAQassistant to do programming - using DAQmx will give you much more flexibility on how the measurements are processed, and may be better
I presume you are using a counter to produce a frequency output - if you switch to outputing the counter value itself, this will be the cumulative flow over time and that might be useable directly in your energy calculation without having to do an integration (assuming you are using the frequency to give flow rate (e.g. litres per second) which is being integrated). This might eliminate both any delay in seeing the measurement change and the effect of a delay on the integration.
Hope this helps (and is understandable!)

  • Counting pulses and measuring flow rate per second

    Hi everyone
    I am using a compactField Point (cFP-2220) controller to measure the flow rate. The flow sensor that i have, gives the output in terms of the pulses. I need to count the number of pulses for a particular interval and divide it by a K-factor( constant value) to get the flow rate. If i select the interval to be of a second, i would want to count number of pulses per second and divide it by K-factor to get flow rate ( per second).
    How do i count pulses per second and consequently measure flow rate using this count and K-factor.
    Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    You may be able to use the Edit Tempo function to work this out. With you waveform in Edit view Right Click on the time scale at bottom of waveform and select Bars and Beats display. Select a number of beats by highlighting with the cursor. Then again on the Time bar select Edit Tempo. In that dialogue you can try clicking on Extract to find the Tempo ie. beats per minute. Also you can try adjusting the tempo by entering avalue manually to see how close that gets to your waveform.
    Haven't used this function of Audition much so you may have to refer to the help file to find out more about it.

    could you maybe try to use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/1419/ IETab] add-on?

  • A flow rate by lose of mass (flow: g/min. or g/hours) with the balance reading?

    I am using a Mettler Toledo balances to feed a reactor. Balance vi gives me actual (current) weight. How do I get a flow rate by lose of mass (flow: g/min. or g/hours) with this balance reading?

    Put the current reading in a shift register. Subtract it from the previous reading. Divide by the time between the readings.
    This type differentiation tends to be noisy so you may need to do some smooothing of the data.

  • Constant flow rate pt 2

    Problem: I'm trying to create a gui which allows the user to adjust instensity.  I have my valves characterized, and my event determined sliders,  but I still can't quite figure out how to make sure that no matter how many valves are open, the flow rate remains constant.  Example.  I have 2 valves open, I want a constant flow rate of 10L/min, so if i adjust the flow rate of one valve, the other valve automatically adjusts to maintain the constant flow rate.  The problem I am having is how to integrate the characterization of the valves with my event sliders.  I would then like to be able to adjust the constant flow rate for different elements.  Attached is what i have so far.

    You'll have to figure out what flow rates correspond to what voltages.  Then create a subVI that will map the desired flowrate to a voltage.  It may be a simple scaling function, it may be a lookup table.
    One thing I like to use is a combination of threshold array and Interpolate 1-D array.  I'll have a couple of arrays with mulitple points where the element in one array that relates to voltage would correlate to the flow rate in the other array.  This would give a piecewise mapping of one to the other.  The functions will do a linear interpolation between points.  The more points you have in the array that correspond to the real profile of the pumps, the closer the actual flow rate will be to the desired flow rate.
    One question though, does the behavior change over time?  Does changing viscosity or temperature cause different voltage to flow rate behaviors?  If so, your problem will get more complicated.

    Despite my advice of some of the many faults I have experienced with Acrobat XI Pro, Adobe support has never asked me to provide a 'Systems Report' which is available under the 'Help' tab.
    This report indicates:
    'Installed Acrobat: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe

    So if anyone has a working version other than 379 please let me know.

    I can easily see 2 matters which an inexperienced support desk staff member could home in on.
    Acrobat XI Pro system requirements include
    1024x768 screen resolution and
    Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, or 10; Firefox Extended Support Release; Chrome
    Well my OQO report above includes
    Display Detail:
       Screen Width: 800
       Screen Height: 480
    and leaves blank
    Default Browser:
    (actually Firefox 17.0.1)
    Yet 'Firefox Extended Support Release' is described by
    Mozilla:
    'Who is it not for?
    Individual users who always want the latest features, performance enhancements and technologies in their browser without waiting for them to become available in ESR several development cycles later.'

    Since starting this post, I loaded Adobe Acrobat XI Pro on another similar computer I own and use regularly. This was in a dock and connected to an external display. Same problems and reports experienced.

    (I did not bother installing plug-ins and deactivated installation before removal of program.)
    With 5 installs producing the same error reports, I am convinced Acrobat XI Pro won't work for me on my computers and have little confidence of useful support from Adobe.
    THERE ARE SO MANY GLARING PROBLEMS WITH MY INSTALLATIONS WITH THE SUPPORT DESK'S RESPOSES UNHELPFUL AND UNINFORMED. I REALLY DON'T ENJOY DOING ADOBE'S QUALITY CONTROL FOR THEM FOR FREE, BUT I CONTINUE TO POST HERE IN THE HOPE THAT SOMEONE WITH REAL AUTHORITY WILL EVENTUALLY TAKE NOTICE AND ARANGE A FIX OF THE PROBLEMS.

  • Problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements

    Hello,
    I have a problem reading GoPro Hero Black 4 files (1080p 120 fps) on my iMac with Adobe Premiere Elements : the file is read but the quality is quite bad. When I watch it with other software like VLC or MPC, the quality is perfect but the video is sometimes slowed or there are some jumps in the reading.
    What is the issue with this ?
    thakns for your help !
    Olivier.

    This is easy. I do it all the time. FCPX ingests GoPro footage just fine. Optimize, and you're good to go.
    BTW: A common hiccup occurs when dealing with over-cranked footage. (60fps or 120fps.) Be sure to "conform speed" to actuate the slo-mo. 'Tis also important to designate your project / timeline at 24fps or 30fps to realize the speed difference.
    I've gotten burned in the past. I'll drag my over-cranked GoPro footage to the timeline. As it is the "first" clip layed into the timeline, the project assumes THAT speed as a default. (As per my preferences.) Thus, when I "conform speed," nothing seems to happen. That's because my project is displaying at the higher rate. A 60fps timeline showing footage shot at 60fps looks "normal speed."
    FYI. (And disregard if you know all this.)

    Hi Howard,
    thank you for your post.
    I actually new about the problems with the jvm version. Still i wanted to ask, cause there are different reports on this `java problems` and even though the 1.4.2_08 seems to be the best version (by the way this version is not to be downloaded any longer *sig*), there are people getting all installed with other versions. I couldn't find any regularity in the misbehavior of the servers while installing.
    I finally achieved and got everything working ... but very slow. Loading the adminui or BAM features takes very long time (over one minute). Have you already had this delay. Any hint?
    Thanks again,
    Valerio

  • Problems reading blobs in Firefox

    We receive html files and store them as blob in an Oracle database as datatype BLOB and document_type text/html. We then extract that blob using a PHP application in Firefox or IE. All this worked fine until recently when the blobs suddenly opened in Firefox as text file showing all the html code. In IE there is no problem. When i looked at the html file i noticed a line in the html files that has no problem and that reads as
    <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
    If i compare that with the file that has the problem, the corresponding statement is replaced with
    <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=unicode">
    And indeed, when i replave unicode everything is ok.
    Now, opening both html files directly from my PC is ok in Firefox and IE.
    Because the html files are coming from an external organisation i don't have direct control on the content.
    My questions :
    what confuses Firefox when the html file is stored as blob  ?
    can i tell Firefox to open the file as html ?
    can i solve this by modifying the way in which the file is uploaded as blob ?
    kind regards

    I use the non-blocking IO classes configureBlocking(false);
    Here is the read part to read GET and POST requests. Maybe the code is not the best, but it works for me.
        public void read()
            try
                readBuffer.clear();
                int nbytes = 1;
                while (nbytes > 0)
                    nbytes = channel.read(readBuffer);
                    if (nbytes == -1)
                        logout();
                    else
                        server.bytesIn += nbytes;
                        readBuffer.flip( );
                        byte[] b = new byte[nbytes];
                        readBuffer.get(b,0, b.length);
                        String str = new String(b);
                        readBuffer.clear();
                        sb.append( str );
                if (isRequestComplete())
                      //Parse the request
            catch (IOException io) {logout();}
            catch (Exception e) {}
        private boolean isRequestComplete()
            //GET requests are complete with one read, check if POST request is completely received
            boolean requestComplete = true;
            int contentLength = 0;
            String s = sb.toString();
            String[] s1 = s.split("\n");
            for (int i = 0; i < s1.length;i++)
                String x = Tools.replace(s1, "\r", "");
    if (!x.trim().equals(""))
    if (x.toLowerCase().startsWith("post"))
    contentLength = 0;
    requestComplete = false;
    else
    if (x.toLowerCase().startsWith("content-length"))
    contentLength = Integer.parseInt(x.substring(16, x.length()).trim());
    else
    if (contentLength > 0 && contentLength == x.length())
    requestComplete = true;
    contentLength = 0;
    return requestComplete;

  • How to determine percentage variation in flow rate during various time periods

    Hi,
    Am in medical electronics division.
    I want to simulate infusion pump.
    How to do it.

    You are confusing me.
    In the title you are trying to determine the variations in flow rate, but in the message body you want to simulate an infusion pump.
    Can you add a few more sentences to explain what you are trying to do.
    Controlling a pump is very different to measuring exact flow rates.

  • Control the flow rate of a Merck-Hitachi L-6200A HPLC pump

    Hello,
    I am trying to control the flow rate of a Merck-Hitachi L-6200A HPLC pump. I already found a VI in this forum in the post listed below:
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/HPLC-pump-feedback-control/td-p/1612428
    I set the pump switches according to the manual as well as I have switched the pump to remote mode. Also I adjusted the settings of my COM port in the windows system manager according to pump and LabView settings. The problem is, that the pump won't react do any signal sent from the computer. I used "free serial port monitor" to ensure that a string is sent througt the COM port. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem here? I'd really appreciate some help. Thank you all in advance,
    Greetings,

    dubbehendrik wrote:The problem was apparently the type of string I sent to the pump. In the abovementioned discussion the space string was sent as "\s" but apparently it can directly be sent as " ".
    Hi,
    It is not the type of string, but how the string is displayed.  \s  and the space character " " are the same thing.  It is mentioned in the response by johnsold in the link you had in your first post. http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/HPLC-pump-feedback-control/td-p/1612428

  • Dual syringe pump control for sinusoidal volume flow rate

    Hello All,
    What I am trying to do is produce a sinusoidal volume flow rate using two syringe pumps simultaneously; one for the steady-state level (DC) and the other for the time-varying component (AC). I plan to produce the sinusoidal volume flow rate by iniating the steady-state flow rate from the direct controls on one syringe pump and using Labview to produce the AC component on a second syringe pump.  One of the pumps that I have available to me is a  Harvard Apparatus  PHD  2000 syringe pump which does have unsupported labview drivers. Examining the Vi's for the PHD 2000, it looks like I can only set a continuous volume flow rate.
    If anyone has experience with programming syringe pumps in Labview or advice on where to find useful reading sources, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

    Hi mpjoseph,
    Regarding a specific example, it might be a bit difficult to find a lot of people who have been through that exact application.  However, ni.com discussion forum search gave me the following results:  http://search.ni.com/nisearch/main/p/sn/catnav:df/pg/2/q/syringe%20pump%20/sb/navsRel
    Also, I've found this example program written for LabVIEW 8.0 online: http://astro.temple.edu/~shackman/downloads/HarvardPump.zip  The main page is:  http://astro.temple.edu/~shackman/downloads.html
    You may have already seen these yourself, but I just wanted to show you what I have found so far.  Perhaps if you had not seen them, it may at least start you off in the right direction.

  • Flow rate

    Hello,
    Does NI have any flow rate sensors to measure blood flow rate? If not, does any one know which company has these sensors?
    Moreover, to receive the data from any sensor and process with LAbView what do i need? Do i need DAQ?
    Thnaks

    Hello utd,
    NI doesn't provide blood flow rate sensors and I wouldn't know what sensor to recommend. You don't necessarily need a DAQ card, but in order to know if you'll need one, I would need more information regarding your sensor. Therefore, the first step would be to find an appropriate sensor. Some sensors may even be able to connect directly to your computer if they provide the proper cable, but many times the sensor outputs currents or voltages that DAQ cards read. Once the DAQ card reads this sensor output, you can process it and scale it accordingly. Here is a document that could be a good starting point:
    http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3536/en
    Other people also use discrete amplifiers, filters, and ADC's and then send the information to a computer port, but this can be much more complicated than using DAQ. Good luck on your sensor search!

  • Read Dictionary Meta Data with a Single Server Connection

    Hello,
    I've Enterprise Portal 6.0 SP4 NetWeaver Stack 2 Developer Workplace Sneak Preview from https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/downloads.sdn running on my computer and implemented the Tutorial: "Creating A Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions" from https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/developerareas/webdynpro.sdn?page=TutWD4_AccessingABAP.htm.
    During the setup of the JCo Conneciton for the WD_FLIGHTLIST_RFC_METADATA_DEST in the Web Dynpro Content Administrator in Step 3 I came across the problem that I can not use a Single Server Connection to read Dictionary Meta data.
    So my Question: Why is it not possible to read Dictionary Meta Data with a Single Server Connection?
    Regards
    Gregor

    Hi Ruth,
    Thanks for the guideline.
    I entered an entry in the etc/service file on the m/c which is having SAP WAS 6.40 J2ee installed.(let say ip address 172.16.1.38)
    for e.g.
    sapmsSA1 3600/tcp
    I restated the webAS server.
    Then from SAP GUI when i am connecting to SAP R/3 backend system and checking the 'smlg' transaction.....i can see 3 Logon groups with the same name 'PUBLIC'.
    Now i have created the BC Message server connection in SLD with this information.
    caption - SA1 01
    Message server IP = 172.16.1.242
    port 3600
    After that i specified this message server information to WD_MetaData connection in JCO content administrator.
    When i tetsed this connection it gives me error as follow.
    com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception:(102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to SAP gateway failed
    connect_PM TYPE=B MSHOST=172.16.1.242 GROUP=PUBLIC R3NAME = SA1 MSSERV=sapmsSA1 PCS=1 LOCATION CPIC(TCP/IP)on localhost with Unicode ERROR partner not reached(host 172.16.1.38,service sapgwoo)
    connection refused
    can u guide me what i am missing?
    Thanks,
    Mital.
