Covering text on Word Search widget

Hi,
I am using the word search widget and ther is some faint text on the bottom that saus "click the first then the last letter of the work to ma e a selection"
I am trying to get wrid of that so I can put the instruction text elsewhere on the slide, but the words stay visible, even over some buttons we have got in the fram. Sending to bck doesnt work either. I have also tried covering the text with an image (of background), thenm grouping the widget with the image on front, but then that covers the buttons, even if I use send backwards...
Is ther a way if editing that instruction text so I can get rid of it?
Cheers
Rossco

Hi Rossco
I saw your replies only now as I am in India. Glad that you figured out a way.
To answer your question on how to assign an image to smartshape, you can go to Fill and Stroke accordion and click the Fill dropdown list. Here you have an option to browse and select a custom image.

  • Cptiavte 8 - the actions does not appear in proprerties when adding a word search widget - any clues please

    Are  there some bugs in captivate - the properties do not always show timings - is this the same for Actions on a word search widget?

    I understood perfectly your question. There is barely documentation about the learning interactions. I have been presenting last year at DevLearn about them with great success, but this year that presentation (even a workshop would be useful) was declined. And I never see any tutorial about them, no documentation in the Help etc.  Wondering why, because they offer some time saving functionality to make a course more engaging. In my last blog post I showed how the Scrolling TextArea Interaction (as widget it is called TextArea, name that is still visible for the interaction as well???) can be used for a Short Answer question with more functionality than the default one: Custom Short Answer Question - Captivate blog
    There is already the big confusion: why are there Widgets (they still are included) and Learning Interactions that both are pointing to widgets (hence the generic name), just to make the difference between those widgets that are SWF only and those that are compatible also with HTML5 output (the so-called Learning Interactions or Interactions)? Terminology is to say it very diplomatic, bit 'inconsistent'.
    But what I explained in this blog post about Widgets, the 3 categories, is also valid for the Learning Interactions: http://blog.lilybiri.com/using-captivate-widgets-some-tips
    You will see that static widgets cannot trigger Actions! Only the interactive widgets (and question) can do that. It is the same difference that exists for objects: non-interactive objects like text captions, images, cannot have actions attached to them, only the interactive objects (buttons, click boxes, TEB's, shape buttons). There is one hybrid object, the rollover slidelet. The Interaction you are pointing at, Word Search, is a static interaction, which means no actions and thus the Actions tab will not appear!
    Another blog post shows all the events that can trigger an action: Events and (advanced) Actions - Captivate blog
    As for your second question: in Captivate 6 all interactions were pausing at the first frame, and that caused a lot of problems (audio not playing is one of them). For that reason the behavior changed radically from 7  on: now they are not pausing at all. That means thaty you need to insert an interactive object with a pausing point like a button (think about a Next button?), click box, shape button...
    Oh yes, static widgets cannot have score attached to them, there is no real way to check if the WordSearch widget has been used? It is an exception, because the other game interactions have an associated variable, are interactive, can trigger actions and can have a score (but that is another long story).
    Think I have spent already too much time answering, to try to fill in the gaps in the documentation. I could write multiple articles on Interactions, want to provide more information but free things are not considered valuable at all. Why should I bother

  • Buggy word search widget

    The word search widget seems to become easily corrupted in Captivate 8.0.1.242. If I try to modify the widget, it will no longer display properly. Anyone have tips on preventing this bug?

    As you can see from the version number in my post, I have the latest version, though I'm not sure why that should matter. I cannot even configure the widget now. See the screenshot for the configuration screen. I should see letters and be able to edit the words, but those elements have been stripped away.
    Now see the second screenshot below for what it looks like in preview. It looks the same if you SCORM it and load into an LMS.

  • Word search widget for quiz

    Hello, how can I customize and include the word search widget in a quiz? This Widget is on of the 10 questions and should make part of the result.
    Thank you

    Most of the game interactions are interactive, which means they can have a
    score. Bit the word search is static, no way to attach a score. And even
    for those games that are interactive, the score is not given based on the
    result of the game, just on it having been played.

  • Word Search Widget Captivate 6

    the word search widget in captivate 6 keeps freezing. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    I know... in 6 all interactions paused at the first frame, causing problems. Now they don't pause at all, which causes new troubles.
    No need for an advanced action at all. Just insert an interactive object that has a pause: maybe a Next button?

  • Delete or modify tip text in Word Search

    How do I delete or modify the text in attached image?

    I have the same problem with my MacOS Lion on MacBook Air.
    Ia happens mostly in MS Office applicatioms, such as Excel and Word.
    It takes time for the computer to figure out that the selected text can now be edited (delete, cut, paste, copy...). Visually the selection happens right away, but I have to wait about 1 sec to be able to work wih this text.
    It's extreamly frustraiting and I don't know how to fix it.
    Any ideas?

  • Word Search Widget

    Hi there,
    I wonder if you can help me. I have inserted a WordSearch interaction using Captivate 7. I have never used this Interaction before. I edited the questions and answers and clicked Generate but nothing happened so I clicked OK. After the properties of the widget updated, the grid was just a grey box with no letters. I went back into Widget Properties but there was no longer the option to Edit Words and the grid is just grey with no letters.
    I have tried to create the interaction again. Again, the Generate button did not work and this time, after clicking OK, it seems to freeze during Updates Properties.

    Don't think that is possible unfortunately. These interactions in Captivate 6 are relatively restrictive so 7 words is what you get to play with.

  • 10G-form: How to do MULTIPLE WORD OR SINGLE WORD SEARCH at ITEM?

    I am using 10G DB + 10G Form Builder.
    I've 'database_item' where I am storing multiline text data.
    I want to do MULTIPLE WORD OR SINGLE WORD SEARCH at this item through FORM.
    I've tried by creating the following NON Database Items on the form:
    - multiline_search_text_item, and
    - multiline_result__text_item
    And then writing execute_query in KEY-NEXT-ITEM trigger.
    I've also tried using this in the POST-TEXT-ITEM at multiline_search_text_item:
    select table.database_item into :multiline_result__text_item from table where multiline_search_text_item = :multiline_search_text_item;
    Pl help me asap.
    Gaurav

    What you want to do is not clear.
    The query you wrote will select records where the table contains exactly what has been written in the search item. You can use LIKE and a wildcard search to find records which contain the search text:
    select table.database_item into :multiline_result__text_item
    from table
    where multiline_search_text_item LIKE '%'||:multiline_search_text_item||'%';
    You can use UPPER to make this case insensitive:
    select table.database_item into :multiline_result__text_item
    from table
    where Upper(multiline_search_text_item) LIKE Upper('%'||:multiline_search_text_item||'%');
    But I suspect you want either to match the individual words in the search text to individual words in the database multiline field, or find records where the search words appear (not necessarily as whole words). In that case, check out the following:
    -- set up a table (multiline and various whitespaces)
    DROP TABLE t;
    CREATE TABLE t AS
    SELECT
      ROWNUM rn,
      owner||Chr(9)||object_name||Chr(160)||subobject_name||'    '||object_id||' '||
      data_object_id||Chr(10)||object_type||' '||created||' '||last_ddl_time||' '||
      timestamp||' '||status||' '||temporary||' '||generated||' '||secondary AS col
    FROM all_objects;
    -- check the format of the multiline text item (col)
    SELECT * FROM t WHERE ROWNUM < 4;
    -- a type for the function below
    CREATE TYPE string_tab AS TABLE OF VARCHAR2(255);
    -- this function takes a string and cuts out each word, idetifying words
    -- as being separated by any whitespace.  it returns a collection
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION string_to_tab(

      l_string LONG DEFAULT
        RTrim(regexp_replace(p_string,'[[:space:]]+',' ')) || ' ';
      l_data string_tab := string_tab();
      n NUMBER;
    BEGIN
      LOOP
        EXIT WHEN l_string IS NULL;
        n := InStr(l_string, ' ');
        l_data.extend;
        l_data(l_data.Count) := LTrim(RTrim(SubStr(l_string, 1, n - 1)));
        l_string := SubStr(l_string, n + 1);
      END LOOP;
      RETURN l_data;
    END string_to_tab;
    -- selecting from t where ANY of the words in the search text has

       FROM TABLE(CAST(string_to_tab('SYS   INDEX') AS string_tab))) x
    WHERE InStr(t.col,x.column_value) > 0
    GROUP BY t.rn, t.col, cnt_x
    WHERE cnt = cnt_x;
    -- selecting from t where ANY of the words in the search text
    -- match a word in the multiline field, so SYS matches only to SYS
    SELECT DISTINCT
      t.rn, t.col
    FROM
      t,
      (TABLE(CAST(string_to_tab(t.col) AS string_tab))) t2,
      (SELECT column_value
       FROM TABLE(CAST(string_to_tab('SYS   INDEX') AS string_tab))) x
    WHERE t2.column_value = x.column_value;
    -- selecting from t where ALL of the words in the search text
    -- match a word in the multiline field, so SYS matches only to SYS
    SELECT rn, col FROM(
    SELECT
      t.rn, t.col, cnt_x, Count(*) cnt
    FROM
      t,
      (TABLE(CAST(string_to_tab(t.col) AS string_tab))) t2,
      (SELECT column_value , Count(1) over(PARTITION BY 1)cnt_x
       FROM TABLE(CAST(string_to_tab('SYS   INDEX') AS string_tab))) x
    WHERE t2.column_value = x.column_value
    GROUP BY t.rn, t.col, cnt_x
    WHERE cnt = cnt_x;For your application you would replace 'SYS INDEX' with a variable (the search field). You can use upper() and wildcards for case insensitive & 'fuzzy' searches. You might need to modify the function so it removes other delimiters such as commas and colons.

  • Word search image

    Hi guys,
    This one's quite advanced...
    I'm working on a online book project that takes a .pdf,
    converts each page into a JPEG and stores them to a unique folder.
    I have created a flash file that the user is directed to upon the
    .pdf's upload which detects via a querystring, the folder location,
    and total number of pages. This, as you have probibly guessed, is
    the online book, which has all the bells and whistles of page turn
    animations, a goto page function etc...
    My problem is this:
    I need the application to have a word search function. I know
    that ideally the .pdf would have been converted to text, but I
    couldn't as the layout of test to images was nowhere near perfect
    on the tests I ran.
    Is there any OCR styled approach that I could use in flash? I
    have created JAVA applets which have performed this task before,
    but never within a .swf.
    An option is to install an OCR program on the server which
    will run dynamically after the .pdfs upload, and store the text
    into a database, however, at best (I assume), this will only allow
    the user to be taken to the page, and not the line, let alone
    creating a transulcent highlight, for example, over the top of the
    text.
    I don't expect an answer, but any feedback would be geatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,

    I don't know the answer for OCR. I would be inclined to try
    investigagate ways to avoid it that would involve loading the the
    content into a swf format...e.g. like flashpaper... or search for
    some other way to convert the pdf to swf whilst retaining the
    formatting/appearance.
    The flashpaper API has for example text searching capability
    built in - I'm just not sure how much of the interface you can hide
    (or may not be permitted to via the licencing agreement). And if
    necessary then its also possible to use bitmapData copies of a swf
    format if you need to manipulate it as an image once the swf has
    loaded.
    Of course if the original source is bitmap you would still
    need to adress the OCR problem. Don't know if that helps.

  • Whole-word search in project

    I'm running RH for HTML Help X4.1 on Windows XP. I want to
    search through all the text in all of the topics for a particular
    word or word string. Is that possible? I can't find anything that
    lets me do that? I realize this is NOT Win Help where I'd be
    searching a Word document, but it would be very helpful to be able
    to do a whole-word search of the project. Thanks.
    -david

    Just a word of warning. It is good practice to close your RH
    project down as the in built tool does occasionally fail to spot
    instances in open topics/projects. Personally most authors on here
    prefer to use other tools (e.g.
    FAR or
    BkReplacem).

  • Where do I find word search interaction in captivate 8?

    hi there
    Just started using Captivate 8 and can't seem to find the word search interaction or game anywhere. I've googled it and still can't get the answer I'm after. Can someone help me please?
    Thanking you in advance.
    Irma

    Hi Irma,
    Did you have an installation of an older version of Captivate before? Learning interactions, originals should be in the Gallery, but normally you are using the interactions from a duplicate folder in Public documents. For Windows the path is: \Users\Public\Public Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets\Interactions_8_0. Can you check if you have that folder and if  10_WordSearch wdgt is in it?
    If not, close Captivate, delete that folder Interactions_8_0. When you restart, a new copy of the folder will be recreated. If you still do not see the widget, something went wrong with the installation I am afraid.
    BTW There is a second (and for me quicker way) to insert an interaction, using the Insert, Widgets from the menu bar. You have to do this if the path to the interactions is not correct, because here you can browse to the folder I mentioned before. Moreover, a list needs lot less searching and scrolling than the window with the thumbnails. The same option can also be used to insert an older widget (SWF only), but those are located only in the Gallery. Maybe this post can clarify something: Tips - Learning Interactions - Captivate blog

  • Freeze when copy paste text from word to Indesign CC

    Hi,
    I have a problem when working with indesign CC. When i'm copying text from word to Indesign, after a while my windows system freezes. Only Indesign works. Windows and word are frozen. After a while (several minutes) the system works agian.
    This problem occurs sinc I have Indesign CC.
    Windows 8, indesign CC, Word 2013
    I hope someone has a solution.
    Ragards Bas

    It's the PDF.
    Usually, you can copy text out of a PDF, but there is no guarantee *at all*. Older software used to take shortcuts to subset fonts: first character it encountered got coded as #1, the next as #2, etc. etc. If you do a search & replace of each of the nonsense characters, you'll slowly see the original text appearing (thst's not as simple as it sounds, though).
    A similar "problem" is that sometimes spaces don't get copied (there is no need for a "Space Character" in a PDF), and that you cannot copy contiguous lines of text as a single paragraph. All of it is because a PDF is not intended nor designed to be re-used after creation.
    If you really need this text and don't want to type it in, try to get hold of the original file.

  • Word Search Puzzle Interest

    Recently during my lunch time I was playing an old Infocom text adventure game that had a word search puzzle in it. I was really bored (hey, I was playing an old Infocom game!) so I decided to whip up a LabVIEW program to do this word search. Way overkill, obviously, but it was something to keep me busy. I tried out a couple of different ideas for an implementation and finally settled on one to do the word search. It's not optimized, but it works. I then started to wonder if this would make for an interesting coding challenge. That is, to come up with the fastest algorithm that could find a list of words in a given matrix of letters. The solution would have to be scalable so that it could accommodate very large matrices without choking, as well as be spoken-language independent. Any interest?

    sure.  you can use mousedown code to start a loop that checks the mouse/finger position and determine (on mouseup) if a word has been found and then display a highlight sprite/movieclip.
