CPU TIME on statspack

Guys,
Does anyone know if the CPU TIME in statspack report is total time for number of executions or per execution. Much appreciated..

It's the total (on 9iR2 at least). You can calculate the per-execution pretty easily if you need to.

    I'm trying to estimate how much CPU time is parse related and next compare that value after i.e. cursor_cache setting. So far I've found :
    parse time cpu
    parse time elapsed
    in v$sysstat .
    Are there good indicators for my needs ?
    Basically when I get CPU time from statspack and parsetime_cpu (somehow) i can derive percentage usage.

    I am using oracle 9.2.0.8 RAC on SUN solaris platform.I am trying to understand my DB statistics using the below statspack report.Can you please coment on the below report
    My quetions/thoughts are:
    1) CPU time is in the top timed events,Is that eman some need to do with CPU increase.Was CPU bottleneck?
    2) Parse CPU to Parse Elapsd %: 80.28 .Is this means I am hard parsing most of the time.How can identify which queries doing more hard parses.what is mean by% Non-Parse CPU: 98.76
    3) Memory Usage %: 96.25 96.64.It seems to be there is too much memory usage.Can you elaborate this usage about what could be the reasons for this to happen
    4) global cache cr request is coming in the top wait evetns and top timed events.Is there some issue with RAC?
    5) can you please explain about 5 CR Blocks Served (RAC) and 5 CU Blocks Served (RAC) and Top 5 ITL Waits per

    This statspack taken for 30 minutes interval.We have 16 CPU's.We never got ORA-4031 errors.It means you have 16 * 30 * 60 = 28,800 seconds CPU available during the interval but you only used 10,406. So you don't have a CPU problem.

    I just get some statspack reports on my 10.2.0.2 database (HP-UX 11i).
    I'm just surprise about the CPU time into the Top-5 events.

    Hi,
    it seems that your database experiences a high SQL workload. The section of statspack report called "Top SQLs by Buffer Gets" might give you an idea what SQLs caused this CPU workload.

    I need a clarification on how CPU time is calculated...I have done few R&D,but i didn't get clear u'standing,but in SPDOC.txt(%ORACLE_HOME%\rdbms\admin\spdoc.txt ) as explained in below text:

    Additionally, instead of the percentage calculation being the % Total
    Wait Time (which is time for each wait event divided by the total wait
    time), the percentage calculation is now the % Total Call Time.
    Call Time is the total time spent in database calls (i.e. the total
    non-idle time spent within the database either on the CPU, or actively
    waiting).
    We compute 'Call Time' by adding the time spent on the CPU ('CPU used by
    this session' statistic) to the time used by all non-idle wait events.
    i.e.
    total call time = total CPU time + total wait time for non-idle events
    The % Total Call Time shown in the 'Top 5' heading on the summary page
    of the report, is the time for each timed event divided by the total call
    time (i.e. non-idle time).
    i.e.
    previously the calculation was:
    time for each wait event / total wait time for all events
    now the calculation is:

    The time that you see in this report is a cumulative time for all the sessions that were running on this database, during the snap period.
    What is "total wait time for non-idle events" in the above definition...As you know, not all wait events are idle in nature. F.ex. SQL*Net message from client wait event is idle event (to certain extent) but db file sequential read is not (as CPU needs to generate the address and perform other computation. All such events, where the CPU processing is still needed but is not directly servicing the end user request, contribute to the total time for non-idle events.

Can any one help me on this? Its urgent!!. I don't want to use statspack becasue it degrades the performance and i cannot afford to run it for 24 hours.

    You don't run statspack for 24 hours, that would infact be pointless...
    Run statspack for say a 10 or 15 minute window during a particular "busy" period on your database. If you run it for longer then all the useful data will have been "averaged out". You want a snapshot in time, not an average over the day.

    ①「Top 5 Timed Events」の「CPU time」
    ②「Time Model System Stats,SQL ordered by CPU」等の「DB CPU」
    この二つの項目はSQLに使用したCPU時間だと考えていました。
    定義の違いをご存知の方がいらっしゃいましたら、教えていただけないでしょうか。

  • Breakdown of CPU Time

    I have make a statspack about our database, and I upload about oraperf website.
    But I don't understand "Breakdown of CPU Time"
    Detail :
    Parse CPU Time 1190 58.42%
    Recursive CPU Time 1542 75.70%
    Other CPU Time 18446744073709550921 -34.12%
    Why The percentage is higher than 100% ?

    Well, you're getting a total of 100% if you include the -34.12% figure. There is clearly a bug in the computation-- you might ask the oraperf folks whether that's a bug in their application or the trace output from your database.
    If you run tkprof on your trace file, that should include breakdowns of parse/execute time for each statement. If you see a lot of parsing, your application might benefit significantly by using bind variables appropriately.

    I think there is only one or two query causing problem....is it true that if there is only one or two query causing problem that is if the query is taking near about 30% elaspsed time cpu does it have a impact on the performance of the db......

  • CPU Time Wait Event

    I am running perfstat in Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.4.0. When I create a perfstat report using the standard scripts I see a wait event called "CPU time." I don't understand what this means. The OEM server monitoring tool does not indicate that the CPU is being used more than 50%, often more like 20%. The top 5 wait events is below.
    What does "CPU time" time mean?

    From my observation I found that it seems CPU is bottneck on this Server. I have gathered few SQLs to find out whether any scope for tuning but still I believe that by reducing the cache size also I can divide the load or can say transfer the load from CPU to I/O. Am I correct or do I need to look over else ?

  • Firefox is using large amounts of CPU time and disk access, and I need to know how to shut down most of this so I can actually use the browser.

    Firefox is a very busy piece of software. It's using large amounts of CPU time and disk access. It puts my usage at low priority, so I have to wait for some time to be able to use my pointer or keyboard. I don't know what it uses all that CPU and disk access time for, but it's of no use to me. It often takes off with massive use of resources when I'm not doing anything, and I may not have use of my pointer for several minutes. How can I shut down most of this so I can use the browser to get my work done. I just want to use the web site access part of the software, and drop all the extra. I don't want Firefox to be able to recover after a crash. I just want to browse with a minimum of interference from Firefox. I would think that this is the most commonly asked question.

  • Cpu time is not getting displayed in explain plan

    I am trying to analyze one query using explain plan .like below
    1) explain plan for
    SELECT /*+ parallel(tsp,8) use_hash( tsp tp) */ count(1)
    FROM router tp,
    receiver tsp
    WHERE tp.rs = tsp.rp
    AND creater_date >=to_date('04032009000000','ddmmyyyyhh24miss')

    and tp.role_name='BR';
    2)@$ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/utlxpls.sql
    But i am getting only following columns in result .

    No Cpu time preset .
    How can i extimate CPU time ?

    In Oracle 9i CPU costing is disabled by default, you need to gather WORKLOAD system statistics to enable the CPU costing.
    In 10g CPU costing is enabled by default and uses default NOWORKLOAD system statistics if no WORKLOAD system statistics have been gathered. It can only be disabled by setting an undocumented parameter or by changing the OPTIMIZER_FEATURES_ENABLE parameter back to 9i compatibility.
    You can check the status of your system statistics by running the following query in SQL*Plus:

  • Mail in 10.6.4 not usable: it consumes all CPU time and will not quit

    Mail application does not work properly.
    It eats up most of the available CPU time (till >300% on my machine), becomes unresponsive and will only quit when killed by a force quit in the Activity Monitor.
    I have only two accounts set up. One Gmail account and a google apps one.
    I used to synch with a Blackberry but now I synch directly through google apps.
    The problem was sporadic at best at first but has become the usual behaviour now. Major change has been installing 10.6.4
    I have switched to Thunderbird since Mail is not usable.
    Tx for any hint on how to solve this issue

    It seems to be a recurring issue with 10.6.4...there's probably not much mere mortals like us can do. I haven't found a solution. Try re-installing 10.6.4.

  • ITunes 10.6.3 hogs CPU time

    I'll notice the system bogging down...and find that iTunes is use 80% or more of my CPU time in Activity Monitor.  This did not happen with 10.6.1.  Tips/tricks/suggestions would be appreciated.

    There's a couple of different things that can hit folks in this way.
    Doublechecking ... are you getting this when iTunes is in the mini player mode? Or in the main player?
