Cpufrequtils module won't load [SOLVED]

Hi All,
Am trying to get some power management working on my HTPC .
I have installed cpufrequtils and find I have the following modules available ..
ls /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/
acpi-cpufreq.ko longhaul.ko powernow-k7.ko speedstep-smi.ko
cpufreq-nforce2.ko longrun.ko powernow-k8.ko
e_powersaver.ko p4-clockmod.ko speedstep-ich.ko
gx-suspmod.ko powernow-k6.ko speedstep-lib.ko
However when I try to load any of these modules I get a failure ..
modprobe acpi-cpufreq
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/kernel/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device
I have tried re-booting the box to make the modules visible .. but no difference ... I seem to remember a loader command to update the cache, can anyone remind me what it is?
NB: I have an Intel Core2 Duo E7300 CPU, and would like to underclock/undervolt it to get some power savings, as I am running at less than 20% cpu most of the time, even with 720p content. I thought I would do the frequency stuff in the OS and do the undervoltage stuff in the BIOS (unless someone can tell how to undervoltage in the OS).
Thanks.

  • VFAT kernel module won't load [SOLVED]

I'm running kernel version 3.7.5 and after the update that got me to that version, it appears to have completely borked VFAT and kernel modules in general. My system still runs fine, but the vfat module is missing and cannot be loaded with modprobe or insmod. Oddly, the kernel object exists in /usr/lib/modules, yet my system seems to be ignoring it. Upon further investigation, it appears that it is impossible to load or remove ANY modules using modprobe or insmod. I recently did a reinstall of Arch, following exactly the steps in the Beginner's Guide, if that makes any difference.
Help? Please? I need the vfat module loaded before I can compile a custom kernel (my next big project)

yup, that worked *facepalm* marking as solved.

  • Help...PC User, LR 5 Map & Web Modules won't load

PC DESKTOP User, Windows 7, LR5 Upgrade (did the same problem in LR4), Internet connection is fine.
Map & Web Modules won't load on main screen. Based on what I could find in the forums it looked similar to a MAC OS issue with Flash. SO...I updated Flash and it seemed to work fine. A few days later...problem was back. I re-installed Flash again. Fixed. Upgraded to LR5...worked ok. A few days later...problem was back. Reinstalled again...worked ok. Now problem back again.
Web Mod. - I can see the templates in Web, but nothing will load. When I select layout styles I either get a gray screen or a "gallery not found" message.
Map Mod. - No map comes up. Sometimes the MetaData panel will load, but it's empty like it's not seeing the photos. Sometimes the whole panel is blank.
(Side note: all of this works fine on my Laptop.)
    Help!!!

    Hi,
    Try repairing permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done.
If you see any warnings re: SUID messages, they can be safely ignored, information here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US

Restart your Mac. If that didn't help, go to Safari / Preferences - Autofill. Make sure *User names and passwords* is selected. Now open Keychain Access. (Applications/Utilities). Select Passwords on the left. Delete all keychains related to the sites you have problems logging in.
Relaunch Safari and try those sites. You should be prompted to save the login data to a new keychain. If that didn't help, login to another user account. Launch Safari. If you see the same problems there, then log back into your admin account, launch Disk Utility. Select MacintosHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
If Disk Utility reports, you will have to boot from your install disc to make repairs, instructions here.

  • Onboard audio modules won't load after Skype install on 64b Arch

    Hi,
    I've a fully updated Arch 64b/KDE 4.5.2 (new PC).
My motherboard has a Realtek ALC889 Audio controller, and, in addition I have a Radeon 5600 graphic PCIe card with HDMI output.
I have the on-board audio controller enabled at the BIOS.
Initially, my audio worked fine, till I installed (from Arch repositories) Skype along with required 32b libraries.
    My current status, after reboot:
The 889 module is not loaded (see below), only the one included in the graphic card.
When logging in KDE, I do hear the sounds.
Although Skype loads and logs-in fine, I can't hear Skype's test sounds nor does it capture the microphone connected to my motherboard back microphone plug. (Skype options offer ONLy Pulse Audio both for output and capture).
Both alsa-utils and alsa-oss are installed.
Please advise how do I restore full Audio capabilities (along with functional Skype).
    Thanks!
I've tried to follow the Alsa wiki of Arch with the following results:

I've tried to modify my /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf to the following  but, during boot, noticed a message saying modprobe ignores the option due to an error. The same happened also after omitting the "index=0" per the Wiki's recommendation.
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    options snd-pcsp index=2
    # disable autoload of ipv6

    options snd_hda_codec_realtek  index=0
    options snd-pcsp index=1

p0x8  Thank you for the response, yes the host is Arch Linux.  I am running the most current version of Virtual Box v4.2.8-1.
Now, with what you are saying, what I am missing.  How do I get the VMs to work properly.  So far, I have been able to get the Network up and running via each VM, Mouse and Keyboard integration is working.  Also was able to get USB devices working as well.  But my screen resolution is garbage for all 3 VM's.  In doing some other reading, I noted where within the VM (Windows XP to be specific) there will be an icon on the lower right corner stating Oracle VM Virtualbox Guest Additions.  This will also display a VBox system trey for lack of a better word on the bottom where you can attach devices and what not.  That is what I am trying to get working on all 3 of my VMs.
Thank you again, and I should have paid more attention to detail as that section of the Wiki does say "Arch Guest" and not "Arch Host"
Edit:  One thing I wanted to add.  In reading the wiki it states:
Guest additions disc The virtualbox package also suggests installing virtualbox-guest-iso on the host (Arch Linux) running VirtualBox. It is a disc image that can be used to install the guest additions onto guest systems. Make it available to the (running) guest by going to Devices and clicking "Install Guest Additions... Host+D". Then run the guest additions installation from inside the guest.
I don't see the "Devices" option in order to run this.  I have the virtualbox-guest-iso package installed in Arch, but when running the VM, I don't see a "Devices" option.

  • Migrated to systemd, modules are not loading [solved]

    Hi;
I got around to migrating to systemd, but now modules are not loading. I got this setup (i gave full permissions thought it would help):
    $ ls /etc/modules-load.d/
    -rwxrwxrwx  1 root root   20 Dec  2 22:34 vbox*
    $ cat /etc/modules-load.d/vbox
    #vbox
    vboxdrv
    loop
Any methods of debugging why this doesnt work?
    Thanks.
    Last edited by daf666 (2012-12-03 21:01:26)

the files have to end with ".conf". And -x permissions are certainly not necessary.
    man modules-load.d

  • Modules won't load when opening

For some reason, when I try to load Adobe Premiere Elements 9, I get a whole repeating series of dialog boxes saying that it can't load certain modules.  list shows as follows:
    DH_dbToVoltage1.3+  (shows twice)
    KDL MIDI2Bool
    KDL Binary Bool
    KDL Bool2Volts
After I hit the OK button on each dialog box, the same KDL dialog boxes repeat in the same exact order as I listed, thus the software refuses to load.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but I get the same error each time I do it.
I hope someone knows how to fix this problem, because googling it and searching the Adobe forums doesn't seem to work as nobody else has had the same problem and has had it solved.

Yes, very likely VST's, that caused PrE to hang. As per that article, there are some VST's, that PrE can load and will work, there are some that it can load, but they will not work, and then there are some, that cause PrE to crash, when it tries to load them.
As did Neale, I found some references to SynthEdit too.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • After pacman kernel upgrade, modules won't load

I can't seem to load any of my modules anymore, so I can't even get my network up (via_rhine).  I am posting this from a different computer.
    My uname -r says:
    2.6.11.7-ARCH
but my last kernel upgrade message in /var/log/pacman.log says:
    uprgaded kernel26 (2.6.10.3 -> 2.6.11.3-1)
    So, what's up here?

that is kinda odd - usually when you upgrade a kernel, here's what happens:
    running kernel 2.6.11.1
    modules are in /lib/modules/2.6.11.1/*
    upgrade 2.6.11.1->2.6.11.7
    dir /lib/modules/2.6.11.1 removed
    dir /lib/modules/2.6.11.7 created and filled
    (modprobes will fail now)
reboot, init scripts will call "depmod -a" to tell modprobe that modules moved and to cache locations
maybe the depmod didn't get called?

I discovered problem. It's caused by NetworkManager after last update (libsystemd.0.so trouble).
Recompile pkg by yourself to get working NetworkManager.

Try this from MacFixIt as well:
In the case of drive directory damage or problems with permissions, the solution is usually to use Apple's Disk Utility to repair the disk. Of course, you won't be able to perform this operation normally (simply launching the Disk Utility application, located in Applications/Utilities, and initiating a disk repair) if your system will not startup. So two options exist:
    * Insert your Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) media (DVD or CD) and restart the computer while holding down the "C" key. Once the computer has booted from the installation disc, select "Utilities" from the menubar and open Disk Utility. Repair the disk, then quit Disk Utility and restart your system.
    * Alternatively, you can repair the disk while booted in single user mode if you do not have access to a retail Mac OS X 10.4.x (Tiger) DVD/CD. To startup in single user mode, hold down the "Command" and "S" keys simultaneously at startup. Once properly booted, type the command fsck at the prompt. Repeat these process until no errors appear.

  • Kernel won't load module for Epson Stylus CX4200

    Hi,
I'm having an odd problem trying to set my printer up. I've blacklisted usblp but when I plug the printer in as suggested by the wiki, I get the following output from /var/log/messages.log:

I have cups 1.4.1-1, ghostscript 8.70-2, and gsfonts 8.11-5 installed. Cups starts as a daemon and I can get access to the web interface at http://localhost:631/ but the printer does not appear there.
When I run lsusb the scanner component is displayed but not the printer:
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 04b8:0820 Seiko Epson Corp. CX4200 MP scanner
I tried putting in a custom udev rule to give lp ownership over the scanner but that isn't changing any of the output above and cups still won't recognize the printer.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks!

It turns out if you delete the /etc/cups/printers.conf file, you can then use the cups web interface at localhost:631 to add the printer again and everything works with cups 1.4.

  • [SOLVED] Many modules are not loaded in the Arch USB key installation.

    Hello!
I installed Arch Linux on my USB key. I did it few months ago and it worked, I had portable arch.
Yesterday I decided to make a fresh installation. Unfortunately after booting it from my USB key
most of the modules were not loaded. Because of that I couldn't start the X server and connect to
the internet (ethernet card was not detected).
Even after loading the module which corresponds to my ethernet card manually (modprobe e1000e) it was not
    displayed in the lsmod list.
I though "maybe I screwed something up during the installation?". To find out I used GParted to copy
my OS partition (perfectly working Arch Linux installed on the hard drive) to the USB key. Of course I changed the UUID of the USB partition.
After booting it I was suprised because the situation did not change - modules that are loaded on my main system for some
reason were not loaded on it's exact copy placed on the USB key.
I have no idea why my portable OS is acting like this.

  • [SOLVED] Loop Module refuses to load

Pretty simple, I go to mount an image as a loopback device, mount exits with no error however the device isn't mounted. Realize loop module isn't loaded, and well...
    andrew@river ~ % sudo modprobe loop
    andrew@river ~ % lsmod | grep loop
    andrew@river ~ %
I have checked dmesg and various logs, no error or any sign that this process took place.
EDIT: Nevermind, was running kernel 3.2.9 however my machine was up to date with 3.2.11

You need to reboot after updating your kernel.

  • [Solved] After upgrading system/VIrtualbox kernels won't load

After running an update on my system and trying to use Virtualbox I recieve this:
    ============================================================
WARNING: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module
available for the current kernel (3.16.4-1-ARCH) or it failed to
load. Please reinstall the kernel module virtualbox-host-modules or
if you don't use our stock kernel compile the modules with
               sudo dkms autoinstall
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
    VBoxHeadless: Error -1908 in suplibOsInit!
    VBoxHeadless: Kernel driver not installed
VBoxHeadless: Tip! Make sure the kernel module is loaded. It may also help to reinstall VirtualBox.
    ============================================================
I have tried to reinstall virtualbox and the kernels, I've manually reloaded my kernel modules, and I still have no luck.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

  • (SOLVED)Farmville 2 won't load

Anyone on here play Farmville 2? I have tried multiple times and many different solutions, but I have yet to find out why Farmville 2 won't load. It loads halfway, then stops. I can run the game in Linux Mint, so I'm wondering if there is just some file that I'm missing to run the game. I have installed flashplayer from the repositories, as well as pepperflash from the AUR. Nothing seems to work. It doesn't work on Firefox, either. I have just done a full system upgrade, but nothing related to flashplayer or video drivers were updated. Oh, yes, I'm running the Intel video drivers on my system. I have tried running the Catalyst drivers, and EVERY time I do so, I end up with a blank screen and I have to do a reinstall to fix it. Any help would be appreciated!!!

  • [Solved] rc.conf problems with modules not auto loading

hi, i have vboxdrv and vboxnetflt in my rc.conf file but they are not loading when i start the computer. They are installed properly, when i use modprobe vboxdrv and modprobe vboxnetflt they both work. I've only been using arch for a few months, but linux in general for a couple of years, I check what log files i could find but i'm not sure what to look for. Thank you for you time. Please let me know what other info to provide. ps system is up to date as of 10/10/2011.
    edit
apperently this is not the only issue i'm having, acpi-cpufreq is not loading in rc.conf either. Where do i got to find the log for rc.conf? or how to tell why the modules are not loading. Thanks again.
