Cracked android screen about to drive me nuts and verizon isnt helping at all!

I bought this Android about 3 months ago and dropped the phone today and it cracked HUGE across the screen.I hate that! Have this massive hole In the corner and its cracked all across the front....its interfering with texts and stuff.....I called Verizon and they want me to pay $99 to have it replaced! I have insurance....isn't that the point of insurance?is to have it covered in case of a damage? Not just get a discount or pay exactly what I paid when I bought the phone???? I'm so **bleep**.I'd be willing to pay up to $50 for a new one but no more.....I've had Verizon since 2006 I think it was and I'm so mad cause this is the first time yall have tried to do this to me! I might switch to at and t if I can't have it replaced for max $50....... I know its an expensive phone but everyone in my family has Verizon and I've had Verizon forever! All I ask is for it to be. A cheaper phone than 99 dollars since its cracked.....

it's just like ANY insurance. when you go to the doctor you have a deductible to meet or a copay. when you wreck you car you have a deductible to pay. and when you break your phone, you have a deductible to pay. this is why i don't carry insurance on phones. if i break mine i will activate my old one or go on ebay or craigslist and pick up some type of android for $100-200. i don't see a benefit in paying $10/month (or whatever insurance costs) only to have to pay $100 when you need to use it. over a 2 year contract, if you have to use insurance, you nearly pay for a new phone anyway (about $200 in premiums and $100 in deductible). i do feel bad for you, but if verizon has to buy the phone for $400-500, then why should they give it to you for $50? and what if you break it again? should they give you another for $50?
edit: if you (or your parents) have homeowners insurance or auto insurance, then you may want to check into those policies as some of them actually cover lost or broken phones, with no deductible to meet.

  • ??? about optical drive, installation discs and display in "new" refurb MB

Yesterday I received the "new" refurbished MB 2.0 1GB RAM 120GB HD (black) bought for my wife a week ago through the Apple website.
(I have a new MBP with a glossy display since January and it has so far been w/o problems.)
As soon as I set up the MB, I noticed the following three issues. Perhaps someone can comment and propose solutions where appropriate.
I did set myself up as the Administrator on the MB and arranged for fast user switching (I am the only user on my MBP). I downloaded all the updates onto the new MB (it came with 10.4.8 preloaded).
Here are the issues/questions (going from minor to major):
    1. the optical drive slot of the MB shows a lot more resistance than the one on the MBP. When I pushed in the first DVD I was actually afraid of breaking something. The first time I tried to eject it it would not come out, instead it reloaded again after the initial attempt to eject the DVD. Subsequent attempts to insert a DVD were met with equal resistance, but the ejection was smoother. Should I be worried about this apparent higher resistance to disc insertion than in the MBP or is this expected?
    2. my MBP came with two installation DVDs, one labeled "MBP installation disc 1" and the other "installation disc 2". The MB came with two DVDs, one labeled "MB installation disc 1" and the other as "Mac installation disc 1" (yes, both are "disc 1"). Shouldn't there be a "MB installation disc 2" instead of the latter one?
    3. this is bothering me the most: the display of the MB is horrible, the colors are faded and the whole screen is bluish. The best and closest (but still not normal) appearance the display has when the MB lid is open as wide as possible and I look at it almost from below (a view 45 degrees from below makes the text of web pages legible, though the gray brushed metal-appearance of Safari, for example, still looks light blue rather than gray). I did check postings on this forum and found that the color settings can be changed in display preferences, and that something called "color LCD" is probably the preferred setting for a MB. Interestingly, my MBP is set to this setting and has a total of 6-7 different settings to choose from. However, the MB does not have this setting ("color LCD") and has only 3 different settings, though both MBP and MB are now 10.4.10. Needless to say, my glossy MBP display looks fantastic. How do I get the MB to look that way too? Can I download this "color LCD" setting from somewhere? (BTW, I did notice on in-store MBs, particularly in non-Apple stores such as CompUSA, in the past this issue with faded colors and a bluish discoloration, some of them even worse then this "new" refurbished MB. I was in the local Apple store yesterday evening for an unrelated issue and looked briefly at the newest black MBs, their colors are somewhat more faded and bluish than my MBP, but not like our new MB).
I'm at work now, so if anyone has ideas or specific additional questions, I'll be able to address them tomorrow.
Please keep in mind, I'm no computer wiz and have some experience with a Mac only since January.
Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Have you tried calibrating the monitor in System Preferences>Display>Color?
I had a similar problem to this when I bought my MacBook (too blue) and I calibrated it (using the "Expert Mode").
    After that, it was fine.

  • My macbook pro 2010 extremely noisy and a warning flashed on the screen about a power or battery issue- can you help please?

My macbook pro 2010 has started getting extremely noisy in the last few months and I had a strange warning flash up on the screen a month or so ago about a power or battery issue… can you help please?

Calibrating a 2010 MBP is not required.  All it will achieve is putting an unnecessary cycle on it and shortening its life:

You may try a SMC reset:

Open System Information>Power and post the following from your MBP:
(Make certain that the charger is connected)

  • 5S screen is occasionally unresponsive to touch, and interaction is sluggish. All since updating to iOS 8.

Ever since I updated to iOS 8, and all subsequent updates (currently running iOS 8.1.1) my iPhone 5S is considerably slower. Apps hesitate when I switch between them and sometimes crash entirely. Sometimes my screen is entirely unresponsive to touch and I have to tap numerous times before it works. I have restarted, i've done resets, I've backed up to the cloud, erased phone and restored from back up. The problems still persist.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI. I've chatted with Apple support online. They suggested I backup and restore using iTunes, which I've done already. SO to humor the tech, I did it again. If it doesn't work this time, then I need to bring it into an Apple store to be diagnosed and possible repair/replacement.
Hope this helps any readers with a similar problem

  • Use of a NAS Drive, iTunes, Movies and Apple TV - Help please

I have an IMAC and i have a number of movies stored there within Itunes.
My Mac is operated in a Wireless Environment and when using Apple TV sometimes the IMAC cannot be located despite home sharing being on both devices and when it can be located and I watch a movie that is stored there sometimes the signal drops off which interrupts the movie.
The Apple TV is connected in a wired environment.
SOmeone has suggested that I should move my Itunes library music and movies to a NAS drive and connect that to my router which is hard wired,
    Suggestions help and guidance welcomed

Update: I've found a work-around that lets me watch the movies, although it disables the iTunes Extras content (but it's not deleted).
While looking through the files for the Extras content, I noticed that for the two films I've had trouble with (X-Men Origins and Twilight), the Extras content was located in a separate folder from the actual mp4 movie files. For all my other movies that have the Extras content (and that were working), the content was in the folder with the movie. I tried moving the content into the movie folders, but that didn't help. Eventually, I removed the extras content from my iTunes library, without actually deleting it.
This caused the Apple TV to pick up the movies as if they were by themselves without the Extra features, and allows me to play them directly without going through the Extras menu. Something about the way that the Extras content was downloaded and associated with the movies seems to have gone wrong with those two movies, whereas for the others it worked correctly.
This is obviously not a long-term solution if you want to watch the Extra content, but at least this way the movie is streaming correctly on the ATV.
PS: for those two movies I mentioned above, the Extras content was listed separate from the movie itself in the iTunes library; whereas for the correctly functioning movies with Extras, the content was listed as another "track" under the movie.

  • Start up screen is gray with apple sign and won't start up all the way

My girlfriends 13" macbook was running fine and then the internet browsers went down and she had to force quit everything. But when we went to go start it back up it went to the grey screen and just had the spinning wheel and didn't go any further. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know asap.

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Or if you are running 10.7 Lion, boot from the recovery partition (Command +R on boot) and use Disk Utility to repair your OS 10.7 partition.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left hand list. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
After repairing use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for restarting from your hard drive.

  • My firewire drive isn't mounting. The port is fine and the drive powers up and spins. Help anyone?

Hi, thanks in advance. My firewire drive isn't mounting. I have used this firewire drive for a few years and it has never had any problems at all. The port appears in the System Profiler and the drive is working fine. Do I need to update my firmware or something? I haven't dropped my drive or experienced any weird physical issues with either the firewire port or the drive (ie shocks from static, getting kicked accidentally, etc).
Do you have any thoughts on how I can fix this issue?  Its very critical, I have several client projects on this drive and will be SCREWED and out of a job soon if I can't get this situation solved. THANK YOU!!!

Another interesting issue, is that when the firewire (800) drive is connected, the system takes forever to boot (about 4 minutes). Without the firewire drive connected, it boots up automatically.
I suspect the long boot times is because the boot process is trying hard to get the disk checked and mounted which of doesn't happen when it is not connected.
Disk Utility doesn't see the drive at all.
Well that isn't good.  This disk may be (physically) damaged beyond repair or the format so corrupt that even DU doesn't know what to do with it.   But on the subject of firmware, you shouldn't need that for FW400/800 connections but what kind of enclosure are you using?  If there is a firmware update at all it would be from the maker of that enclosure for that enclosure.
Is it possible to remove the drive from the enclosure and put it into your mac pro?

  • Hard drives microsoft computers and macbook.. help!!

hi everyone, im not at all savvy when it comes to computers...
i have two old computers (non apple) i have an external hardrive that has all my pictures on from those computers but i now neeed to clear my macbook air and when i plug in the hardrive it comes up with something called time machine, when i go to press back up it says something about wiping all the data on the hard drive??? i dont want to loose all the pther pictures???? what can i do?

Do not use your external drive containing your photos for Time Machine.
It is likely that your external drive is formated for a PC.
If it is formated in NTFS format, your MacBook Air will be able to read from the drive but may not be able to write to the drive.
I suggest purchasing another drive formatted for Apple Mac just for your MacBook Air.

anyone know on how to fix this issue with a Notepad dvd/cd writable drive-laptop it is out of warranty- on startup the power LED's light shows green for a few seconds and will eject upon startup if pressed-but once closed and Windows vista is loaded, the cd/dvd drive completely locks up-no power green light displays. and will not allow to eject at all
it is shown in my computer ok.
i tested reseating the ide cable for the cd/dvd drive -but still same problem. (ran a scan disk as well)

Have your parents try a disk with their account. If it works there, then it's something about your account causing the problem.

  • Transferring Thrive drive from one tablet to another (I cracked the screen)

After about 2 years of having a great condition used Thrive, I have cracked the screen in multiple places though touchscreen actions seem to still work well. It has a 32GB drive. How hard would it be to take that out and place it in another Thrive? Was thinking about trying to buy a 8 or 16GB model then swapping the drives. If it is possible, could I then take the smaller drive and use it in some external case? Thanks, James

  • I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. Apple wants me to pay for replacement unit (I agree), turn in my old phone (??) & wait for 6 days (no problem). What do I do to access emails, Internet & make/receive calls during these 6 days?

I dropped my iPhone 4 & cracked its screen. I went to the service center to get it repaired. SInce it is not under warranty, i was willing to pay for repair charges.
They told me that the screen can not be repaired or changed, but they can replace my damaged set with an equivalent set, on payment of RM 760, roughly, 25-30% cost of a new one. I agreed.
    They told me to:
    1/ pay upfront
2/ leave my old set with them
3/ and the replacement unit will be delivered in 4-6 days.
I agreed on 1& 3 but not to leave my damaged set with them because it is still working and I don't have another spare phone with me, to serve me the 4-6 day waiting period.
THe service center guy told me that if I want a replacement, I have to agree to all 3 conditions and that I should buy another phone for 6 days. I told him that I constantly need email & Internet access, as part of my work responsibilities, so I can not do with a simple phone. It obviously, doesn't make sense to buy an expensive smart phone, go thru the trouble of transferring my data & mails & contacts - just for a week.
Unfortunately, all these logics fell on deaf ears & the service centre guy kept insisting on ALL of the above conditions.
I came back so flustered & upset.
I thought customer service was about solving problems & not creating hurdles for customers.
    what should I do?
    ANy advice?

What would you do for transportation if you drove your car into a tree and had to wait while it was fixed? You'd need to rent, borrow or buy another car, no? The same applies to your phone. This is not Apple's problem; if the service center does not have replacements in stock for immediate swap-out, then it's up to you to provide a backup device or do without.
If you're in a country where Apple provides direct service for iPhones, you may be able to call Apple support and arrange for advance replacement, where they send you the replacement phone and then you send back the old one. Apple offers such service in several countries, though you have to pay an extra fee for the service. If not, then you'll just have to wait for the service center to get in the replacement, and will have to arrange an alternative to use during that time.
    Regars.

  • Black screen while installing driver

    Hi all,
I am having troubles installing drivers on my lenovo y560 notebook. When I install the driver, once the screen goes black then come back (normal). After that, it goes black again and it stays that way. Sometimes the mouse pointer is visible and I can move it but it's vey laggy. Sometimes it seems like the screen tries to load and I can see a grey part on the right side of the monitor refreshing in rows. I tried with different version of windows, different driver versions but it's the same. I can only use my notebook with default windows driver which is 1024x768. I have this pc about 3-4 years now and this happened just one day. I used it before for playing but one day it would not boot, after the windows logo it goes black screen again. Sometimes I can see that the process led is blinking and sometimes not. Maybe my GPU chip is ruined? Also, I am not connecting any HDMI external monitors to it.

See resetting the PRAM > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
