My After Effects 9.0.2 has been running fine in both OS X 10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard).  I ran a program today called Monolingual which removes unneeded language and architecture files.  When I ran the program I set it to remove all languages throughout my computer other than English and, since I have an Intel Mac, I set it to remove all PowerPC architectures.
After the program had run, and removed 2 GB worth of unneeded language and architecture files, After Effects failed to start, giving me the same error message as indicated above:
I subsequently reinstalled the entire Adobe Master Collection CS4.  However, the error remained.  It appears that After Effects is calling on a file that is outside of the Adobe Suite, probably a file native to the OS X Operating System, that was removed by Monolingual.  So, when the Master Collection was reinstalled, the missing file was not reinstalled with it as it appears to be an Apple file, not an Adobe file.
Monolingual allows folders and files to be excluded from being removed when it is run, which would avoid this problem in the future.  However, the error message does not give a clear indication where the missing file is located within the software - there are no "Registry Keys" in the Mac OS X Operating System.  Anyone have an idea?

  • Bridge CS6 crashes on startup after upgrade from CS5

Yesterday I upgraded to Photoshop CS6 using an install disk mailed from Adobe.  Photoshop CS6 itself appears to be working fine, but both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Bridge CS6 crash on startup with the standard Windows popup ("Adobe Bridge CS6 has stopped working.  Windows is searching for a solution...").  Bridge CS5 still works great, as it did before the CS6 installation.
The Windows Event Viewer shows the following message for the crash of the 64-bit version:

I've rebooted multiple times and tried reinstalling from the upgrade disk, but the problem persists.
The installation is on a machine dedicated to Photoshop whose system info is included below.  I'm running a multi-disk setup with 1 SSD as my C drive, another SSD for Temp and Scratch (in different partitions on the same SSD), and a RAID 5 array of hard drives for the actual image files.  To my knowledge I'm running with the latest drivers of everything.
I'm not sure how to move forward at this point.  Any information or assistance would be most appreciated.
    David

Thanks Curt, but this is not a virus issue.  Think about it, how could the ntdll.dll file be virus infected and yet only impact the running of this single application?  That really wouldn't make sense now would it?  That library is critical to many windows function and if it were virus infected, I would have more things to worry about that trying to get Bridge to launch.
I already did my homework on that before I posted here and tried some of the things suggested on verifying the integrity of my system files.  The Digital Signature Information shows to be okay.
It could be that I upgraded this system from Windows XP Professional to Windows Vista Business and that I have an old (CS2) install that I did not remove from the computer.  I have done a variety of things to try and get to the root, but to no avail.  I am sure that if I were willing to start completely from scratch and do a clean install of the OS, I may be able to get it to work.  I don't really have time to do that however, and since I am not the only person who has had the issue with Bridge failing to start, I suspect the solution lies somewhere within the architecture of Bridge in CS6 that is at the root of my problem.
I am hoping that someone from Adobe will finally figure it out and provide an update that works.

  • Illustrator CS5 crashes on startup

I re-installed my CS5 Illustrator, but it still crashes on startup. Before it crashes, there is an error window "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. [SExi]". I press OK and the software opens, but immediately crashes. The crash report is below.

  • Startup scripts...

I am wondering about what would exactly happen if one were to delete a startup script (not deleting a startup item) or launchd items. I am curious because recently I have been having some trouble and I think I have narrowed it down to that. It was actually my friend for some reason, he nor I knows what he was doing. The problem begins when finder is being launched. I have logged into my administrative account (which he was using) and it acts as if I am constantly relaunching Finder. If one has Force Quit Finder before, one sees just the desktop picture and a blank menu bar. Nothing shows up except for the menu bar and the dock. The menu bar flashes on and off as if I was constantly Force Quitting Finder. Anyways, I am thinking that I am having a problem with one or more of the following:
    Launchd items
    Startup scripts in general
    Mach, Mach-sym, Mach_kernel
    Things of that nature
I have basically tried everything non-evasive to fix my problem. I have started up in Safe Mode, which had no effect. I have moved/deleted preferences. I have started up in Single User Mode and have run less/var/log/system.log. Nothing was really wrong, nothing that stood out. I have made sure my /ect and /var links are intact. I ran fsck -f and everything "seems" ok. Of course it wasn't going to tell me everything is perfect. Some other things are that before that every application crashed with a KernProtectionFailure. I have also isolated this problem to my main administrative account. I am on a different account that I made for my friend, but I had left the room for 5 minutes. I am not worried to much about this because my OCD qualities make me back up my computer every day. I have backups of my backups in different formats. I have Backup 3.0 archives, clones, and then I have my main CD collection. The problem is that I forgot my OS X Disc 1 DVD at home along with my external hard drive and iPod that had OS X on it. So basically I am going to be fine, I was just wondering about what could cause such an erratic behavior. Usually erratic behaviors happen when startup items or kernel extensions conflict.
    Thanks,
    Jon
PS After thinking about it right now, I did a Safe boot buy holding down the shift key during start up. What about when holding down the shift key until the login window appears and then releasing it. and once logged in immediately pressing shift again. That differs from Safe Mode?

    Hi, JB.
    1. You wrote: "The problem begins when finder is being launched. I have logged into my administrative account (which he was using) and it acts as if I am constantly relaunching Finder."This often indicates an incompatible or corrupted Startup or Login Item. See my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ for steps that might help you with this problem.
    2. You wrote: " ran fsck -f and everything "seems" ok. Of course it wasn't going to tell me everything is perfect."If fsck or Disk Utility > Repair Disk finds errors, particularly those it cannot repair, then your Mac OS X installation may be corrupted or your hard drive itself may be damaged.2.1. You can check your hard drive with Disk Utility's built-in ability to use SMART diagnostics. See:
    - "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Checking a hard disk to see if it's going to fail"; and
-"Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Checking the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk."
2.2. As a general checkup, I suggest you run the procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
2.3. If you believe your Mac OS X installation is corrupted, perform and Archive and Install. See my "General advice on performing an Archive and Install" FAQ for some important tips on this process.3. The proper instructions for starting up in Safe Mode are found in "Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode."
    Good luck!

This happens every time I open Premiere Pro CC. I have not been able to find any info online about this. Premiere Pro CC works fine on my desktop but for some reason it hates my laptop.
Premiere Pro CS6 works just fine on my laptop, I've never had a problem with it. Any help on this would be great. I have already tried running the CC cleaner script and that did nothing. Thanks.

Come On ADOBE, I just signed up for the creative cloud to get Premeire and this is what I get? a day of fudging around trying to make your software work only to find that you introduced a bug into the software for a GT 650M graphics card?
My problem is identical...I have upgraded the drives to the graphics card on my laptop and it still crashes.  If I make the Nvidia card the preferend card for premeire it will crash on start up.  If I set the integrated intel 4000 card as the prefered card it will start up but crash within 10 seconds...
Whatever is going on, I need something that works...can you make an older version available in the mean time while this gets sorted out?
    PLEASE FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Photoshop CS3 Mac: Crashes on startup?
    Hi all!
I just today installed CS 3 Web Premium on my G5 (Dual 2.7GHz, 2GB RAM, Mac OS 10.4.9, all updates installed). The install seems to succeed, and I've activated the suite, and all the other applications launch without a problem. But Photoshop doesn't. It shows the splash screen and gets as far as "Initializing Suites" when it drops off the face of the earth, and I'm prompted to send a crash report to Adobe (done).
I've tried restarting the Mac, re-installing just Photoshop, and even creating a new Admin user and trying it there, but Photoshop still crashes in the same place. So it's apparently nothing in my user account or just a randomly mucked-up install.
I did a search here for "initializing suites" but nothing came up, and even Google found just one other report of a CS3 crash at exactly that point, so a) it's not common, but b) it's nevertheless not just me. Hmm.
Has anybody seen this? I'm funkified...
    Pres

    Ramón is exaggerating.
First: find the uninstaller in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers and TRY to run it even though you already deleted the application.
If it won't DO anything, go to Macinosh HD/Users/your username/Library/Preferences and delete the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder (and its content) PLUS the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Paths file in same location, PLUS the com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file in same location.
    Then try to reinstall again.
If that doesn't work, run the cs3 clean again. Note that it is a script and that it asks you questions that you have to answer to and type in replies to for it to do anything. I fyou donät interact with it it won't do a thing. Note that it might clean out more adobe files than you would wish for.
    There are instructions here
for how to unisntall the public beta of Photoshop CS3 but you might be able to follow those also for a non-beta. There are no instructions for manually removing Photoshop CS3 at the support center as far as I can see (on the other hand it is next to impossible to find anything on the support pages by doing a search.. search for Photoshop CS 3 for Mac and get articles about Illlustrator or CS...).

  • No matter what, PS CS4 crashes on startup, please help?

So, to start off with, I just built a system, here's the specs:
    Intel Core i7 920
    6GB OCZ Ram
    MSI X58 Pro Motherboard
    Asus EAH 4870 Top Graphics
    Vista Ultimate 64
I initially built this system about a week and a half ago, and put a beta copy of Windows 7 on it while waiting for my copy of Vista to arrive. PS installed fine, was blazing fast, and all was good.
I then got Vista, formatted the system, etc. Tried to install PS, and it would crash on startup. I figured it was driver issues, so I decided to deal with it later. I updated all the drivers, etc, and it still wouldn't work. I uninstalled it, but got an error on uninstall. Eventually I found the PS Clean uninstall script, and that has been helping. Now when I try to reinstall, it reinstalls fine, but again, immediate crash. I figured, long shot, but maybe somehow my PS disc was corrupt, so I spent last night DLing a trial from here. Again, immediate crash.
Running 64bit Vista, I have the option to open wither Adobe Photoshop CS4, or Adobe Photoshop CS4 (32 bit.) They both have the exact same error.
This is getting pretty annoying, and I honestly have already spent too long looking through KB articles, and I'm hoping you guys might have a solution for me. I have attached a screenshot of the error I have been getting. If it matters, this is a shot from the install of the trial I downloaded.
Regarding a "program" causing it, and Windows closing it, this even happens with nothing open at all, including system tray things. Also, whatever Windows says it will close, it either doesn't, or it doesn't help.
    Thanks for any input.

The way various programs write to the MBR to store verification codes, machine IDs, etc. it is possible that something over wrote something else, or filled up the available space.
I'd wait and see if this gets read by someone with Adobe and you get a comment from them before doing something that drastic.
The way they keep an unofficial eye on the forums, I would wait at least until the end of the work day Tuesday April 21 (USA Pacific time zone) before going ahead with the wipe.
I still hope there is an answer that is better for you. I can't guarentee my answer is correct. You would just end up spending a lot of time and getting nowhere if it isn't right.
If you do do it, be sure to back up your data first!
XP-Home, and perhaps Vista as well, on operating system install first reformats ALL drives in a computer, not just the system drive. I found this out the hard way when I had a drive go out under warrenty and the authorized repair place did a re-install in spite of my telling them to just replace the drive because I had an image back-up which I would apply.
My image back-up was on the second drive. A different local shop was able to recover everything on that so I could restore the system and recover my data.
Just a heads up on that.

  • Undervolting startup scripts

    Hi all,
it seems a lot of pentium-m processors (most notably banias and dothans) can safely be undervolted. The beyond kernel has the undervolting patch included to do that. I have written a small startup script that automatically undervolts the cpu when started and reverts it when stopped. It would be nice to include a bunch of possible suggestions for a variety of processors. There's a list of alleged safe voltages over at the gentoo wiki (OK, include normal disclaimers; nothing here is safe, your computer might crash and your dog might get raped if you run the scripts and undervolt your cpu). Anyway, what I'm trying to say is: what do you think? and what can I improve?
The 753 cpu figures that I have are for my own cpu and they work fine so far. If anyone uses any other table they want to recommend for any other cpu, do tell.
    /etc/conf.d/undervolt
    # voltage table sysfs interface
    VTABLE_SYSFS="/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/voltage_table"
    # CPU type
    CPU_TYPE="753"
    #!/bin/bash
    . /etc/rc.conf
    . /etc/rc.d/functions
    . /etc/conf.d/undervolt
    # Will add various cases of CPU_TYPE in due time
    case "$CPU_TYPE" in
    715)
    VTABLE="700,700,764,812,924"
    753)
    VTABLE="828,796,764,732,716,700"
    VTABLE=`cat $VTABLE_SYSFS`
    esac
    case "$1" in
    start)
    stat_busy "Undervolting CPU"
    if [ -e $VTABLE_SYSFS ]; then
    cat $VTABLE_SYSFS > /tmp/undervolt.orig
    echo $VTABLE > $VTABLE_SYSFS
    add_daemon undervolt
    stat_done
    else
echo "Cannot find $VTABLE_SYSFS. Make sure your running kernel is appropriately patched."
    stat_fail
    fi
    stop)
stat_busy "Reverting to original volt table"
    if [ -e /tmp/undervolt.orig ]; then
    cat /tmp/undervolt.orig > $VTABLE_SYSFS
    rm_daemon undervolt
    stat_done
    else
echo "You do not seem to have undervolted your CPU yet, cannot find /tmp/undervolt.orig"
    stat_fail
    fi
    echo "usage: $0 {start|stop}"
    esac

Oh, alright, I see. The thing is that the VTABLES I've hardcoded are just VTABLES that people have reported as working well on those particular processors. There's a table of such user reported VTABLES at gentoo's wiki, and I've just used those.
There's really no way to figure out how much a cpu could be undervolted and still function as expected. My ideas was to add some figures that people have tested and tie them to a CPU model that is entered in the conf file.  I've just added two CPU types but the idea is to add all of the entries that I can find at the gentoo wiki.
My problem with tying various VTABLES to CPU models is that they might just crash the system anyhow, and that's not very good. Perhaps the VTABLES should be defined in the conf file and the CPU model case just skipped...? Something in the lines of this:
    # voltage table sysfs interface
    VTABLE_SYSFS="/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/voltage_table"
    # CPU type. DISCLAIMER: these VTABLES are reported to work well by some users
    # on the coresponding CPUs. They might not be safe for your system and might in worst
    # case scenarios cause hard crashes. It is advised that you use [some script] and mprime (?)
    # to test your new VTABLE.
    #VTABLE="828,796,764,732,716,700" # Pentium-M Ultra Low Voltage (600MHz - 1.2GHz), Model P-M 753
#VTABLE="" # Add more CPU models
    #!/bin/bash
    . /etc/rc.conf
    . /etc/rc.d/functions
    . /etc/conf.d/undervolt
    case "$1" in
    start)
    stat_busy "Undervolting CPU"
    if [ -e $VTABLE_SYSFS ]; then
    cat $VTABLE_SYSFS > /tmp/undervolt.orig
    echo $VTABLE > $VTABLE_SYSFS
    add_daemon undervolt
    stat_done
    else
echo "Cannot find $VTABLE_SYSFS. Make sure your running kernel is appropriately patched."
    stat_fail
    fi
    stop)
stat_busy "Reverting to original volt table"
    if [ -e /tmp/undervolt.orig ]; then
    cat /tmp/undervolt.orig > $VTABLE_SYSFS
    rm_daemon undervolt
    stat_done
    else
echo "You do not seem to have undervolted your CPU yet, cannot find /tmp/undervolt.orig"
    stat_fail

  • Any Mozilla product I install crashes at startup. The first window I see when I open a Mozilla product is the crash reporter. I have tried every possible solution but cannot open anything. It started with firefox. Can anyone please help?

Hi there, as the question says, I cannot open any Mozilla product. I have tried to install firefox 3.6, older versions of Firefox, Firefox 4.0, Sea Monkey, Thunder Bird and Sun Bird. I have the same problem everytime. I open any of these programs and the first and the only window that appears is the crash reporter. I've tried opening it in Safe Mode and the same occurs. I have tried entirely uninstalling the products incuding the registry keys but no help. I shall post the detailed error reports, if they help solving this issue. Can you kindly look into this and find a solution as I use all of these Mozilla products and my life has been a hell since they've ben down.

Same problem over here as well, FF 7 is ok but FF8 / FF9 and Thunderbird 8 / 9 crash on startup.
They both work if I start them in safe mode with everything enabled.

  • I installed the latest version of Firefox last night. It worked 3-4 times flawlessly. Now, it crashes at startup and gives me a box with crash detail report. How can I fix this?

I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
    How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:
    Problem signature:

Please help! I cant stand iE anymore and I'm so lost without Firefox!

You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
    http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side.

  • GPO with a startup script is not working.

I have a GPO that I have added a ".bat" script to the "Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\scripts\startup/shutdown" section. The batch file is located in the netlogon folder. This script was part of another Old GPO
that I want to consolidate into this new GPO. So I am taking the exact settings from the old GPO and  applying it to the new GPO.
The script does not run at startup and when I go into Group Policy Management, highlight the GPO then on the right pane click the settings tab it doesn't display the startup script as being set. It's just not there. If I select edit and go to the
"Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\scripts\startup/shutdown\startup" section the .bat script is present though.
Also if I do a gpresult it also shows that it isn't running the script but all other settings in the GPO are being applied.
This GPO has the User Config. side disabled
Why isn't the GPO applying the script or even acknowledging that it is present in the settings tab?

    Hi,
I could not see any report in the above link. I would like to know that did you follow the below path:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/dd630947.aspx
In addition, logon script could only be applied to users. If want to apply to computers, we should use startup script.
