Create additional mail folders?

The mail application works OK on my iPod Touch, however I would like to create additional folders or mailboxes to file received mail in. For exmple, one for email from my wife, one for order and shipping conformation, etc.
Is this possible?
My software is up to date according to iTunes.

Is your email account a POP or IMAP account? Who is the email provider?
You can create a folder on an IMAP server which will show up on all email clients. However, this is not possible with a POP email account.
This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3300 provides more information about the differences of POP and IMAP.

  • I have an edit button in my e mail account but when I press it I don't get the ''get new mailbox' button. How can I create e mail folders? Thanks.

I want to create e mail folders for my goole account. I go to the account and as suggested in the forum i tap on edit. Then instead of getting at the botton a button that says 'new mailbox' i get 2 boxes one red that says delete and one blue that says move. This is on an ipad 2. I have also an ipad 3 and there it does work. I have checked the settings in both ipads and they seem identical to me.
How can I create the foldesr then on teh ipad 2?
    Thanks a lot!

You need to be in the mailbox list for the account when you tap edit.
Sounds like you might be trying to do it from insider you Inbox.

  • Creating Custom Mail Folders

Is there a way to add folders to personalize/categorize mail by a specific folder, i.e., work, Joe-Bob?
    Thank you.

This can be done with an IMAP account - creating a server stored mailbox for the account with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account will be available automatically when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server automatically with each email client used to access the account.
This is not possible with a POP account.

  • Creating individual mail folders for each mailbox

I have switched to mac from pc and cant figure out how to make individual folders within my 2 email accounts. With Outlook I had 2 email accounts and lots of individual folders within those accounts to help seperate my different emails. With mac I cant figure out how. I tried smart mailboxes but it wont let me put emails from 2 different senders into 1 smart mailbox. Also, how can I transfer my old emails from my pc to my mac.
    Thanks for the help!

In Apple Mail, accounts are sometimes referred to as Locations. Folders are called Mailboxes. If you have multiple accounts configured and you create a mailbox it will ask you which location it belongs to. That's how you create a folder within an account.
Smart mailboxes are not real mailboxes, but are automatic searches. They don't belong to any one account.
Transferring mail depends on the other application you were using. Mail's Import Mailboxes feature will help you through the process. It does not support importing from Outlook though.

  • Create new mail folder

I have a new iPod Touch, 8 gb, version 3.1.2.
Is it possible to create additional mail folders?
    Thanks.

The mail account is with Rogers and I'm using the mail app that came with the iPod Touch. I've set up the mail app account using the information from my Rogers account. I connect the iPod using Airport on our desktop iMac which uses Apple's Mail.
I can receive and send email from the iPod but I simply want to create additional mail folders in the mail app.

  • Creating iCloud mail folder on Mac

When I create mail folders in IClouds, then they are visible and working fine on my mail system on Mac. But, many times I work offline and hence would like to create the mail folders on the Mac and then let them be replicated to ICloud. How to?

There isn't a fix, it's working the way it's intended, you can put your mail boxes in any order that you want, just drag them where you want them

  • Unable to Drag & Drop email into Smart Mail Folders

With Tiger, one could create "Mail Folders" and Drag & Drop emails into them. How is this possible with Leopard? I create the Folders and Sub-sets of Folders but I cannot archive my emails by dragging and Dropping. Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks

The title of your question mentions "Smart Mail" folders.
The text of the question mentions "Mail Folders".
Drag and drop only works with the regular "Mail Folders". If you try to drag a message into a Smart Mailbox it will refuse to go there because the message doesn't qualify.
"Smart Mail Folders" are supposed to be set up to automatically alias an email in your inbox that has specific qualities, like, The sender is a member of a group in your addressbook, the subject contains a certain word, or other trigger (That's what makes them smart).
Depending on what you are trying to do, you may do better with creating regular "Mail Folders" so that you can manually sort important emails as you wish without having to build the Smart rule.

  • How can I create additional "Sent Mail" folders so that I can organize my sent mail along the same lines as the inbox? I use Mail v 4.5

How can I create additional or sub "Sent Mail" folders so that I can organize my sent mail along the same lines as the inbox? I use Mail v 4.5.

Thank you for your reply Don, but I had already gone through that procedure and it will only create new mailboxes for received mail. I want to create new mailboxes for sent mail, i.e. the first column being "to" not "from". Under the Mailbox menus there is an option "Use This Mailbox For" but all the options under that (including Sent) are greyed out. Unfortunately the View/Columns option to change from "From" to "To" changes all mailboxes not just the active one.

  • Creating additional E-Mail accounts

On the iPad 2, how do I add additional e-mail folders to an account.  The account only shows and Inbox and Trash folders.  Sync does not pick up my other Outlook folders.

The iTunes sync process does not include email account mailboxes and messages.
Not possible to create additional mailboxes with the iPad's Mail app, but with an IMAP account all server stored mailboxes will be available automatically. You can create additional server stored mailboxes for an IMAP account with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account or via webmail access for the account using a browser. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account will be available automatically when accessing the account with the iPad's Mail app along with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
None of this is available with a POP account.

  • Creating additional folders on iphone 3Gs when using a pop3 account

I want to add additional folders in my pop3 mail account. The default only gives me inbox, drafts, sent and trash. Can anyone advise how to create additional folders???

Not possible with a POP account. Only supported for IMAP or MS Exchange accounts, and even then the other folders need to be created elsewhere (on a computer or web-based mail client), but they can be used on the phone.

  • How do I set up additional mail storage folders?

I have installed the cloud and my mail storage folders did not import into the IPAD.  How do I set up additional mail storage folders?

did not have a mobile me account.
    Copied from your previous post.
Waited for the ICloud to come out installed on both the MAC and the IPad.  Started an .me account.
Did you have a MobileMe email account first or not?
And regarding your Mail storage folders that you want available on the iPad, mail storage folders from which email account? Since you just created an iCloud email account, any locally stored mailboxes created for another email account must be transferred to the server for your iCloud account for the mailboxes to be available with the account with the Mail app on your iPad. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account will be available automatically when accessing the account with the iPad's Mail app, but you must place any locally stored mailboxes on the server first. If you use the Mail.app on your Mac, select an drag a locally stored mailbox under the iCloud desgination in the Mail.app mailboxes drawer to copy the mailbox to the server with your iCloud account.

  • Creating mail folders

when i click on 'mailboxes' on my ipad, it shows: inbox, drafts, sent and trash.
is ther a way to create additional folders to save specific emails?

You can't create mail folders on the iPad. If you have an IMAP email account then folder you create on a computer or webmail usually appear on the iPad. If you have a POP3 account you can't.

I had a MobileMe account and when Apple switched to iCloud I now have two mail accounts: @mac and @me. Additionally my folders in iCloud no longer show up in my Mail program on my iMac. How do I return to one account and see my iCloud folders on my mac?

I went to Notes.  Showed all notes.  Three notes are duplicated, one on iCloud and one on Icloud.  I deleted one of the notes and checked to see if the other still existed.  It did.  I deleted the other two notes.  I check all notes and found that the three notes were deleted on both accounts.  The only notes on this device are under On My iPad.
I went into system settings and tried to delete the Icloud account.  The warning comes up:  This will delete all IMAP notes on your device.  Will this also delete the notes in On My iPad?

I want to create a folder within my mail folders that are already there.  Can I create a folder and give it a name like "work" so I can move related messages to that folder?

Assuming you are using an IMAP or Exchange account (not POP): Open the Mail box list to the account in question, tap Edit (upper right of list), then NewMailbox (lower right of list)
