Create an adhoc network

trying  to create a network so i can use apple tv on a private network for business meetings. any help?

Thx funrush, so in other words, I'm fracked...6 pages of the same problem but no resolution...oh well. It must be a hardware related issue however, as my imac on the same level of Snow works fine (well, it has other issues) and on that box I can create adhoc networks till the cows come home...

    Seems like a relatively trivial thing to do, but Im having issues getting this up with either systemctl service or netcfg.
    netcfg fails because it's trying to connect to a network, but in actuality, it just created the AdHoc network.

  • Is it possible to create the adhoc network and get it work with WLAN APIs (WlanConnect) instead of netsh commands...?

    Hi All,
    I am facing issues in creating  adhoc network in Windows 8.1. After searching in internet, I found that adhoc works with
    netsh commands.
    1. I have tried neths commands and able to get it work on windows 8.1,
     but I want to do it through the WLAN APIs ie. WlanConnect ,
    2. I am able to initiate the adhoc network(on Windows 8.1) by using WlanConnect API and other device are also able to connect to the Windows8.1 initiated adhoc  network  but the DHCP is not working.
    -> clients are not able to get the IP address.
    Is it possible to create the adhoc network and get it work with WLAN APIs (WlanConnect) instead of netsh commands...?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Did you mean to write a program to implement that creating adhoc via UI? This should be development issue.
    But this is Windows 8.1 client forum and there is no professional on develop.
    To help you better, I suggest you submit a new case on MSDN forum to help to check your code as they will be more professional on your issue:

  • Adhoc network created in windows 8.1 gets listed as an infrastructure network

    Hi All,
    I have created a adhoc network on a windows 8.1 (home ) tab following the below steps ,
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow
    netsh wlan set hostednetwork ssid=tests key=123456789
    netsh wlan start hostednetwork
    hosted network started but to my surprise it got listed in all the other windows 8.1 tabs (which was not supposed to be listed),
    I ran netsh wlan show networks command only to see that the new adhoc network <tests> is being detected by all other tabs as Infrastructure network
    Did I miss anything while creating the network ? cuz.. I was expecting it to be listed as "adhoc" network ?
    Other part of the deal is when I try to connect another 8.1 tab (home edition) by following the below steps
    Click Open Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks >
    Add.
    Click "Manually create a network profile". (This may look silly but we really are going to create an infrastructure network now.)
    Enter the network name (SSID), security type, encryption type (if any) and the key that you noted in step 1.
    Uncheck both checkboxes ("Start this connection automatically" and "Connect even if the network is not broadcasting".) [Note that you cannot have the connection start automatically. If you try to have it checked, step 10 will fail. A
    different way to start it automatically during system boot is described below.]
    Click Next > Close. Your connection must appear in the list with the icon suggesting infrastructure (two big screens connected to a tube). Don't worry about it.
    Click Start, type in "cmd" in the search box, press Enter.
    In the Command Prompt, type in "netsh wlan set profileparameter name=NetworkName
    ConnectionType=IBSS", exactly as shown, without quotes, except you must substitute
    NetworkName with the SSID (network name) of your ad-hoc network
    connection fails (if I change the connection type back to ESS , it gets successfully connected
    Why is this ? I am struggling with this from yesterday..

    Hi,
    According to your description, it seems that your all Windows 8.1 computers connect to network via normal wireless network.
    Did you have wireless router for them?
    Please delete this adhoc, then check if these computer could connect to network.
    If no, follow below guide to create and connect to adhoc :

  • [Q] How can I get OS X to remember the adhoc network I created?

    I created an adhoc airport network on my Mac Pro running 10.5.6 and that works just fine until I reboot and the system forgets it, and I have to recreate it.
    So apparently it's not getting saved to disk perhaps because the relevant file is corrupted. Does anyone know which file it is?
    keywords: ad hoc, internet sharing, Devices, wireless.

    I also have this problem. I work at an educational institution, and we're trying to create this ad hoc network between 4 iMacs to transfer files to one of them designated as a print station for a photography class. We want it to be like this all the time so it is easy for students to use. Is there any way for these network settings to be saved and used upon startup?

  • Creating adhoc network?

    Since I am having such problems syncing through my router, would it be possible to directly connect my MacPro and AppleTV via wireless by creating some sort of adhoc network?
    If any can tell me exactly how to do this I'd greatly appreciate it.
    (Yes, I have a 802.11n airport card in the MacPro).

    philsmy,
    You may create a wireless network for the Apple TV to join by enabling Internet Sharing over Airport if the Mac Pro is connected to the Internet some other way such as via ethernet. Information on Internet Sharing can be found in knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh336.html

  • Can't print with adhoc network for HP 7780 all-in-one

    Operating system is Windows Vista 32 bit.
    Downloaded full driver software from HP site and installed it OK with wired connection to printer.  All works fine in this mode.
    Now I want to do wireless printing via an adhoc network called MYNetwork that I generated on my computer with WEP security.  The printer detected the network, I put in the 5-digit password on the printer control panel, and the network was then connected.  It shows connected on my computer also.
    So  now I am connected to the adhoc network, what are the next steps to make the printer show "online" and to actually print wirelessly?  I really feel dumb asking this, as  the answer must be simple.  PLEASE Help!!
    Note that I have completely disconnected the wired connection from the printer to the computer.
    Thanks,
    Garry

    1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
    2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    4. Select Local printer
    5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
    7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
    If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
    11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    12. Click Finish.
    Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • How do I create a wifi Network in a classroom without Internet.

    Hi all,
    I have an iPad, Iphone and a MacBook Air that I use in my PC-equipped classroom. I can get by without wifi, but several new apps have me wanting to use the iPad (or iPhone for that matter) as a mobile whiteboard. My problem is the adhoc network I can create with my MBA deactivates whenever I sleep the MBA. This happens severa times throughout the day as I'm not the only teacher using the room.
    What I would like to do is use a spare Airport Extreme base station I have to create an equivalent to the adhoc netwerk, but on a permanent basis.
    Is this possible, and if so how?
    Thanks!

    The AirPort Extreme....or any other AirPort does not need an Internet connection to create a local wireless network.
    Simply configure the Extreme using AirPort Utility to "Create a wireless network" and ignore the messages that you do not have an Ethernet connection and/or Internet connection.
    Once the Extreme is configured, you have the option to go back and click to "ignore" the "errors" and the indicator light will change from a blinking amber to green.
    We can't provide any more specific configuration instructions without knowing what the model number of the AirPort Extreme might be (it is on the bottom), and which operating system the MacBook Air might be using.

  • Using Airplay speakers and Iphone with adhoc network?

    As there are more and more Airplay speakers appearing (B&W Zeppelin Air, JBL On Air, Philips Fidelio DS3801W...) i would like to know if there is a way to use those speakers without any additional router in such a way that a direct adhoc network is created so that the Iphone could stream directly to the speakers?
    I am already using various bluetooth speakers, but audio quality is quite compromised with them, therefore i would rather prefer Airplay speakers but without the need of additional router hardware, just speaker and Iphone. Is this possible?
    Thanks, Olaf

    As I am trying to create an AdHoc I dont see a section where I can create a password for it when in all the tutorials and images I have seen there is a simple box underneath it but I only see "network name" and "channel". I am using OS X Yosemite fully updated.

  • Is there a way to create a virtual network using C# and the Azure SDK/API?

    I don't see a clear way to create an Azure Virtual Network using the SDK.
    I have all the methods to create the virtual network configuration, but no way to submit it:
    IList<string> VirtualNetworkAddressPrefixes = new List<string>();
    IList<string> LocalNetworkAddressPrefixes = new List<string>();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.DnsServer> DNSServers = new List<NetworkListResponse.DnsServer>();

    NetworkListResponse.Gateway Gateway = new NetworkListResponse.Gateway();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.LocalNetworkSite> LocalSites = new List<NetworkListResponse.LocalNetworkSite>();
    IList<NetworkListResponse.Connection> Connections = new List<NetworkListResponse.Connection>();
    VirtualNetworkAddressPrefixes.Add("a.b.c.d/cidr");

    I have also created the entire XML response and sent it to the NetworkManagementClient -> Networks.SetConfiguration() method, but it appears this command expects the virtual network to already be in existence. If anyone could give guidance, it would be
    appreciated.

    Hi,
    As discuss above , we have to create the XML response  ,before that first you have to
    GetConfiguration() details of existing virtual network.
    string.format("@<NetworkConfiguration xmlns:xsd='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema' xmlns:xsi='http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance' xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/ServiceHosting/2011/07/NetworkConfiguration'>

            </Subnets>
          </VirtualNetworkSite>  </VirtualNetworkSites>

    To give a sensible answer, a little more information is needed.

  • Creating my home network, Apple Airport Extreme & Sky

    Hello all,
    Hoping somebody can help, I’m attempting to set up a network in my home that works a bit like this.
    Ok, we’ve had sky broadband for a few months now and have the new grey Sagem router to go with it. I also have the new Apple Airport Extreme station (and an Oldish BTHomehub v1.5, the white one… just kicking about incase its useful!)
    What I want to achieve is use Time Machine on my Macbook Pro to wirelessly backup over the network to a Hard Drive plugged into the AE. I want the AE to be upstairs away from the sky router and I also want to be able to plug Ethernet devices into the AE to use the internet (somehow acquired from the router downstairs I assume) like an Xbox, laptop or anything else I might need really).
    *Its important to me that the AE isn’t downstairs in the same room as the router, otherwise I would just connect it with a cable and create a wireless network from that.
    On top of that (stay with me….) if the AE has the functionality to extend the wireless network further to hit the low signal spots that would help.
    I’ve been reading around the internet and various support sites. I know a little about this stuff but I’m not an expert on networking, I know nothing about the different signals N, g, b etc or how IP assigning works. I read a little about WDS networking but I’m not sure which direction to head.
    This is probably the closest thing I’ve found to what I’m talking about, If the bottom hub was the sky router and the top hub was the Apple AE.
    http://www.jarviser.co.uk/jarviser/repeaterhubs.html
    Appreciate any suggestions, thanks.

    The best way by far is to run ethernet as a kind of backbone between the two stories.. on one storey setup the AE and the other you setup the TC.
    I have no idea if one is the main router or not.. or both are bridged.. that doesn't really matter.. the principle is.. one router per network. So whichever is not the main router change to bridge mode.
    Both should create a wireless network. You can use roaming setup, where both use identical names and identical security. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4260

  • How would you use these Apple devices to create the best network?

    I have the following devices and want to create the best network for my 3 story home:
    Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
    More data, the devices that connect to this network:
    New MacBook pro (in same room with new Time Capsule)
    New iMac (in same room with Time Capsule)
    2009 iMac (on second floor)
    Iphone 5 and 5s
    ipad Minis
    ipad Airs
    Apple TV second generation
    I've done some testing and the signal is pretty good on the second floor (meaning that the download speeds on the second floor iMac are the same as those in the same room with the new Time Capsule).  But the upstairs bedrooms have speeds cut by 50%.
    There is no reasonable way to connect the new Time Capsule by ethernet to any other devices.
    Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?  Would the old TC then "re-pump" the signal into the bedrooms which don't have line of sight with the new TC?
    How would I best do this?
    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Time Capsule 3GB, latest generation (needs to be located on middle floor in a corner room by the Comcast modem)
    Time Capsule late 2009
    Airport Express 2010
    So, the old Time Capsule and AirPort Express are near the new Time Capsule and connected to it with an Ethernet cable.....or are the old Time Capsule and Express not even in use at all?
    Would it be helpful to extend the wireless network "wirelessly" with the old Time Capsule in an area upstairs with strong signal?
    While it would be better if you could connect the old Time Capsule to the new Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection, the old Time Capsule might help things out a bit in the bedroom area if it is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal from the new Time Capsule.
    This is one of those situations where performance cannot be predicted and you simply have to try it out in your home to see how well it will work. It could not hurt to use the old TC to extend the signal wirelessly to the bedroom area, if you want to give that a try.
    You did not mention the AirPort Express, but it could possibly be located downstairs if you need more wireless signal coverage in a given area. The trick again, is to find a location where the Express can both receive a strong wireless signal and also provide additional wireless coverage.
    Setting up the old Time Capsule or Express will only take a few minutes if you want to give things a try. Post back if you need more details on "how" to do this.
