Create app to run Sudo rm command

I would like to develop a simple application that runs the sudo rm command. I would like the interface to be a simple drag-and-drop window and an execute button. I have xcode but im not familiar with how to use it. I have also heard that people can use automator to create apps.
Any help is appreciated, and i have an email if more regular correspondence is needed. Thanks in advance!
Kenny

X Windows Manager provides an interface to render the windows and basic widgets on screen, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_Window_System.
LabVIEW for Linux has in principle a rather hard dependency on some form of Windows manager being present. During startup of LabVIEW this X Window manager is initialized and if it isn't present all kind of havoc can occur.
I think there was some semi documented INI file setting that one could use to allow a LabVIEW app to start up even if no X Window manager was installed but that had its own difficulties. In my experience it wasn't really worth the hassles. The easier solution was usually to install a minimal X Window server such as a text only variant so that the dependency was properly satisfied and LabVIEW could initialize everything properly, eventhough no user interface was later displayed in the LabVIEW app.

  • How to create script that run sudo-command, via automator?

    Hi
    I'd want to create script to automate one command I need quite often. I just can't get this to work.
    I'm not using english OS, but I think this is what I do. In automator I choose Utilities -> Run script
    Here's the script I try to run:
    sudo "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --restart"
    I found some tip to do it like this:
    do shell script "sudo /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh --restart password "pass" with administrator privileges
    Where pass is my admin password.
    This does not work, either.
    Could anybody help me on this?
    Thanks...

    This is not working. What's wrong?
    What's wrong is that the '--restart' is a parameter for boot.sh, and therefore needs to be included within the quotes.
    Additionally, the shell uses spaces to divide parameters, so the spaces in the command will make it appear as multiple commands - '/Library/Application', 'Support/VMware' and 'Fusion/boot.sh'. You need to escape them using a backslash:
    <pre class=command>do shell script "/Library/Application\ Support/VMware\ Fusion/boot.sh --restart" password "pass" with administrator privileges</pre>
    If it's outside of the quotes it would be interpreted as a parameter to 'do shell script' and it won't know what to do with that.

  • How to create script that run sudo-command?

    I often need to run command:
    sudo "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.sh" --restart
    This needs to be run as admin.
    Can anybody tell me how to create script that will login as admin and run that command in terminal?
    Or from where can I get help how to add commands to a script?
    Thanks

    Your best bet on getting a cogent answer is to post to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies.

  • Problem running sudo command in script

    Hello,
    I try to run this script.
    #!/bin/bash
    sudo /bin/cat /dev/input/event1 >> /home/tom/.log/log.bin &
    The sudoers entry
    %users ALL= NOPASSWD: /bin/cat /dev/input/event1 >> /home/tom/.log/log.bin
    I get the following error!
    $ Passwort: sudo: pam_authenticate: Kommunikationsfehler
    Kommunikationsfehler = eng: communication error
    What's wrong with that?
    Thank you!

    Sorry, for being not precise.
    I created the alias in .bashrc in my $home directory. In sudoers all users are allowed to key in this command without a passwort entry.
    I know how to autostart in xfce and so created an autostart entry but unfortunatly it doesn't work for my "special" command.
    What I did:
    1. I wrote a script (first post) and tried to autostart it in xfce. For that command I created an entry in sudoers in order to avoid enter root passwort. The script didn't start.
    Then...
    2. I created an autostart entry (deleted the first one - see point 1) and entered the whole command (cat .../event1 >> $home...) in the xfce autostart input window. The idea was to run the command directly and not through a script. But it didn't work.
    Therefore I tried to run alter the command to "bash cat .../event1 >> $home ...." Didn't work either.
    3. I also deleted the autostart entry no 2. and created the alias in .bashrc in my home directory. Now created a new autostart entry trying to start the alias. Didn't work.
    I also tried to set the Terminal option in the file $home/.config/autostart/log.desktop to "true".
    So it looked like this:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Version=0.9.4
    Type=Application
    Name=log
    Comment=event1
    Exec= sudo cat /dev/input/event1 >> /home/tom/.cblog/log.bin &
    StartupNotify=false
    Terminal=true
    Hidden=false
    The alias for example works well if I enter it in xterm.
    So, I don't know why it isn't working! :-(
    Thank you for any help

  • How to create a one click apple script to run sudo rm -rf in terminal

    Hey Everyone
    I have sensitive information on my computer, quite paranoid and would love to have a one click script to run sudo rm -rf in terminal.
    I'm quite new to scripts and all that, can someone please explain how to do this as a noob?
    would love if I didn't need to enter the password to authorise the wipe.
    also is there anything more effective as sudo rm -rf?
    and can sudo rm -rf be undone? like can some traces be brought back from the drive if your like a super pro at hard drive data recovery?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
    That's not the way to delete everything from the hard drive, because your files can still be recoverable after running that command with special apps.
    Instead, if you want to make sure that your data cannot be recovered, start up in OS X Recovery (hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting up), open Disk Utility and erase your OS X partition by choosing one of the security options you can use to erase your files. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU2.html
    A better option would be to put that sensitive data onto an encrypted external drive

  • Applescript for running sudo commands in terminal

    I'm a newbie when it comes to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help with a basic request. I need to write a small script to do the following:
    1. Launch terminal
    2. Run the 'Sudo -s' command
    3. Enter the administrator password (in plain text)
    and then
    4. run some sudo commands like "sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow HiddenUsersList -array-add administrator"
    I actually WANT the administrator password to be in the script in plain text even though I understand the security risks (I will literally be the only person to ever see the script). I've trawled forums all over but can't seem to find what I am looking for and cannot get it working by patching together the various commands I have found. Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

    I've included two examples.  The preferred way & the hacker way.
    with administrator
    It is easier to diagnose problems with debug information. I suggest adding log statements to your script to see what is going on.  Here is an example.
        Author: rccharles
        For testing, run in the Script Editor.
          1) Click on the Event Log tab to see the output from the log statement
          2) Click on Run

        end try
    end run
    This version has an inline password.
    Notice the echo 'password' |
    The single quotes are no accident.

  • Is it possible to create a package that will install a program and then run a PS command?

    Hi,
    I need to deploy a language pack to my clients and then run a PS command to have the new language selected. Do I need to create a program for this? Is it possible to just run a PS command and prompt for a reboot? The command is
    Set-WinUILanguageOverride  en-US
    Thank you

    That works fine using the "Run another program first option". Alternatively, you can call all of your commands from a single batch file which is initiated in the program. Or you can have your PowerShell script call everything directly -- it is
    a script after all. Or you can use the PowerShell Deployment Toolkit as suggestion by Jeff.
    If you are simply calling a single PowerShell script, the command-line is the same that you would use anywhere:
    PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -NoLogo -NoProfile -Command "English.ps1"
    With the your Package containing English.ps1 of course.

  • I need to create an APP that runs on an Android Tablet to play mp4 video stored on the SDCARD.  I ha

    I need to create an APP that runs on an Android Tablet to play mp4 video stored on the SDCARD.  I have tried using VideoPlayer and passing NULL to the Connect() method, but while this will play a video from a shockwave SWF it will not play it as an APP from a .apk file.

    There are several apps in the App Store. Look at them to see what might meet your needs. There is a keynote app that might be best for you.

  • App to run remote commands

    I am building an app to run remote commands. A server app with tcp/ip to listen for connections, validate user, then let user send commands(from a predefined list) that will fire the Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime() , the Process proc = rt.exec(cmd from cmd list)
    Any thoughts on this? Better method or practice?
    Can you get static of a proc whil running? I wnat each call to be a new proc, so I guess I could vector them after creation?
    M

    strictly network internal ops. Run exe/bat/com on remote server. The commands will be contolled by the admin, so we will be limited. I see the server running as a Win2k service so the permission for it to execute commands could be limited to the user that is the 'log on as' for the service.(is this a correct assumption?)
    We have tried rcmd, windows scripting, etc...but they all require admin privs on the target machine and the admins won't allow this.
    My thought was to build a command object to extend into commands we are allowed to run. you use a gui to send encrypted command name to server, it decrpyts and runs the appropriate cmd object, firing runtime to execute a predefined cmd string held in the cmd object and permissions based on service 'log on As' user.

  • How to create an alias for a custom command line with paramters

    Is it possible to create an icon that runs a terminal command line ?
    What i want to do is start firefox with a specific profile. In terminal this is done by using Firefox -P [profileName]
    How can I put this in an alias (or something else) ?
    I tried creating an alias that changing the original but it won't let me insert a command line.
    Any help ?

    In my .profile this works: alias f="/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P doug"
    for starting under my profile. Make sure you run source ~/.profile if you add an alias to .profile
    Starting default FFox profile is /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P swxazqvy.default
    And for Desktop icon to start whichever profile, open Script Editor and paste with proper changes(and save as an app(maybe to Desktop again?) :
    do shell script "/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox -P doug"
    And you can make an executable with icon in a bash script with above and chmod u+x it and save to Desktop too.

  • Mail window will not open, even though app is running in the toolbar

    Hi all,   when I click on the mail app in my toolbar, the app is running as it has the little grey dot underneath and is displaying that I have unread emails ... no window will pop up though so I can't actually get into the mailbox at all!
    I am running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.2    Mail version 8.2 and my MacBook Pro (mid 2012) is not showing that any updates are due.
    Many thanks for your help
    Sara x

    Please take these steps to delete the Mail "sandbox" folders.
    Step 1
    Back up all data.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
    Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
              Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder—not just its contents—to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
    Restart the computer. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. Any custom stationery that you created may be lost. Ask for instructions if you want to preserve that data. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window.
    Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
    Step 2
    If Step 1 doesn't solve the problem, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.MailServiceAgent
    *If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
    from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Running a Unix command as "root" with NSTask

    Hi,
    I'm new to objective-C and Cocoa programming. I already know C and C++ (from classes I had in Uni.) but this one goes farther than what I've seen. Stricltly for learning purposes, I'd like to make a three button window where you click on a button and it launches /etc/daily and the two other cron tasks. But, in order to launch those commands, you need to use sudo. I guess wrapping a Unix command in a Cocoa application uses NSTask, but how do you get the app to run with root access?
    Any help will be appreciated
    iBook G4 (12)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    How about launching Terminal with a script that calls
    sudo? sudo will query the controllying TTY
    (Terminal) for the user's (which had better be an
    admin user) password.
    There should be no way to do this without requiring
    admin authentication, preferably interactive. If
    there were, it would be a privilege escalation
    vulnerability in OS X...
    That is exactly what I am looking for: I'd like my application the ask for administrator privileges before running the Unix scripts.

  • How to run multiple DOS commands from a single Webutil Client_Host session?

    Hello all,
    I have a requirement where I need to create an interface with SVN from Forms for basic checkin-checkout of files.
    So, I've been trying to use webutil client_host to open a command line session and issue svn commands.
    For svn, sometimes I need to give multiple commands like change to a particular directory and then run an svn command.
    But client_host takes in only one command at a time and I'm unable to issue a series of DOS commands to perform
    a particular task.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Pls suggest.
    Regards,
    Sam

    First your original question... You can put more than one DOS command on a single line, simply separate each command with an ampersand (&). For example:
    mkdir c:\abc & cd abc & dir*
    Regarding your concerns about performance, well that would depend on exactly what you mean. Using CLIENT_HOST (or HOST on the server) simply opens a shell (DOS in this case) then passes your command to it. The performance of performing this action really isn't measurable. Basically you are just pressing a button and you should get a near immediate action. As for the performance of executing each command, that has nothing to do with Forms. Once the command is passed to the shell, the rest is a function of the shell and whatever command you passed.
    Having said that, if you were to write something sloppy like a loop (in pl/sql) which called CLIENT_HOST lots of times repeatedly, then yes there would be a performance problem because the pushing of the button will cause an exchange to and from the server and each cycle in the loop will do the same.
    So the answer to how performance is impacted will depend on what exactly you need to accomplish. If it is a single call to CLIENT_HOST, this should be fine.
