Create Balance Dimension process

Hi I am using International HRMS.
I need to know that whether User Defined balances are supported for International HRMS or not.
Has anyone used it with Global HR. By default "Create Balance Dimension process" is not available in the request group "Global HR and Payroll Processes"

Balances are supported in International Hrms.
You should run first a concurrent program to create your proper legislation (copy from ZZ), and as such some balance dimensions will be available to your legislation. "International HRMS Setup" if i recall well.

But the balances would be reset to zero depending on the frequency specified when running the program. Our requirement is to create a dimension which will never reset the balance to zero. How do we achieve this?Your suggestions are most welcome.
Note: We have already applied global hrms patch and run zz legislation program for Pakistan.

I have completed all the prereq which includes
1- implementation of global hr patch.
2- Run international hrms setup.
With out all these i couldn't be able to define a single element in global hrms.
My question was, how to stop oracle payroll to set the balance zero.
Because here in Pakistan, personal loans are sanctioned
for more than 1 year e.g.
A company provide me loan of 120000 and I have to pay it in 2 years of
equal installment of 10000 Rs.
Now if payroll set the balance of installment to zero due to the balance dimension defined after
completion of an year, how it would be possible for payroll to deduct
installment amount in another month of next year when the balance has
already been set to zero by payroll...??

Hello
I think you can try PERYTD (Person Calendar Year To Date) OR ASGYTD (Assignment Calendar Year To Date). Also Create Balance Dimension is a UK Legislative specific program and is not available in other Legislation so if you want it for UK and PERYTD or ASGYTD doesn't work then you can try it.

Use of various balance dimensions

Can some tell me what is the use of various balance dimensions
i.e when to use the following dimensions:
Assignment Level within a run
Assignment Level in the current earnings period
Assignment Level all time
Assignmnet Level in the current processing year
ASGYTD= Assignment Level in the year
ELEMENTITD= Element Entry level for all time
ELEMENTPTD= Element Entry level for this period
Please can some one throw some light on the above Balance Dimensions so as to know how one has to use these in the FF.

Don't create unique key with a column of a fact table which refers with a foreign key to another table (dimension)! This data must be unique in the dimension table!
But indexes in the columns of foreign keys will speed up your queries.

Duplicate attribute key found when creating a dimension

Good Afternoon,
I created a cube with dimesnions and all is working fine. I created three dimension ZONE,BLOCK and STREET and these are reltated to the FACT table and all is well. But i was thinking since these 3 dimensions are related and coming from the same table, why
not just create one dimension with ZONE as the primary key and the heirarchy as zone>block>streetname. In the DSV i created a named query.
SELECT DISTINCT ZONE, BLOCK, STREET
FROM dbo.MYTABLE
group by zone,block,street
order by zone,block,street
Please see the sample dataset as well, where when i process the DIMENSION fails with an error that the "Duplicate attribute key was found, column name:Zone, value:1). I know zone and also the other two columns when processed are repeated more than once
and hence this, is there a way to get what i want.

Thanks Richard and SS. This is what i did.
1) In the DSV i created a new named query, the same one i used.
2) Set Primary Key on Street.
3) Created a dimension STG_ZBS_DIM and while creating the heirarchy , i draged and dropped the fileds in the following order (zone>block>street).
4) Tired to process , but getting the same error, except this time at the street level.
What else i did was changed the primary key back to Zone, went into the attribute relations and set the relation from Zone to Block and then Block to Street, saved and processed and this time i got the error at the block level :-(

Create time dimension table in repository without data warehouse

I want to implement only BI repository solution in my customer (not datawarehousing). Is it possible to transform the data by repository tools, so that the times columns in fact tables are categorized by the "time dimension" table?
To be more explanatory:
The "Sales" table has the "time of sale" column. It contains the timestamp when the sale was performed. I have imported this table in "physical layer" of the repository. Now I want to create a new "time dimension" table, something like:

Hi,
I can do it, but this would be usefull only to create "time dimension" table. But also the "sales" fact table needs to be altered (thus, the "time" column will not contain the value of the time, but the ID of the corresponding time in the "time dimension" table).
I know that on DW this procedure is done automatically by the ETL process.
My question is that does the repository has any tools similar to this?

Creating Flat Dimensions in AWM

Hi,
We have a proposed cube structure with 8 dimensions (apart from the TIME dimension) as follows:
3 Dimensions have a Level-Based Hierarchy
2 Dimensions have a Value-Based Hierarchy
3 Dimensions are flat with no levels or hierarchy.
We are using Oracle Analytic Workspace Manager v10.2.0.3.0A for formulating the cube structure.
We want to introduce a top level “All” column in all the dimensions so as to facilitate analysis of data by eliminating the dimension itself (by selecting its “all” level). Inclusion of such a top level “All” level seems intuitive for Level based and value based hierarchy as we can just introduce the new level.
However, we are not sure of how we can create a “flat” dimension and also have the top level “all” column in it by using AWM. Any insights on the process of creating a flat dimension in AWM would be much appreciated.

I am not sure what the problem is? You simply create a dimension with two levels:
- Top level
- Base level
Assign an 'All Members" description to the top level and all all other members are assigned to the base level.

Dimension processing error: "duplicate id detected"

Hi All,
Im facing an issue where when i try to process a dimension, i get an error message ."error while processing dimensions"
"duplicate id detected" .The reason for this is there are two identical id's with in the same dimension. "pu" & "PU".
Im not able to root cause, how BPC allowed processing of these identical dimensions in the first place. But becoz of this, whene ever i try to add a new dimension member and process the same, i get the above mentioned error.
Have you ever encountered this error in your applications.
If so, what is the way out?
Also, Is there a solution ,which does not involve deleting & re-creating the dimensions.

Hi Sridhar,
Best way is delete both the line and process it. The wild fact in BPC is that if if you have used ABC as dimension member in cost center, you can not have same name as dimension member in profit center as well.
Is it not wild? So best way is delete the dimension member..but if you have posted some transaction data u have to delete the transaction data first..

Creating hierarchical dimension for products

I have to customize the hierarchical dimension id generation using property accessor for products. OOB category-dim-output-config.xml includes the definition to generate the hierarchical dimension ids till category, using custom property accessor I'm able to create the dimension ids for categories.
My Endeca application needs the hierarchical dimension ids till product hierarchy, so I have added the following <item /> definition for child product.

This is generating the dimension id for categories only but not for products as I have added "dimval_spec" at category level. I i add the "dimval_spec" property in product item then product record includes two "dimval_spec" property values. Actually a record should have only one "dimval_spec" property and its value.
My queries are "
1) does the definition file I have defined is correct?
1) How can I have only one dimension id property in the definition xml for both category and product, so that each record will contain only one dimension id?

There is as no thmb rule for it. Generally we try to balance the dimension when we create them. For example, It is not advisable to include Material and Vendor in a single dimension.(otherwise it will lead to dimension explosion...large no. of records in a single dimension.)
The idea of dimension tables is to group associated characteristics to reduce the number of fields in the fact table and to reduce redundancies in storing frequent combinations of
characteristics values in a table. Examples of characteristics typically grouped into one dimension include Customer, Customer Group, and Zip Code grouped into a Customer
dimension, and Material, Material Group, Color grouped into a Material dimension.
A special case of a dimension is the line-item dimension, which is used for characteristics with a very high cardinality. Atypical example is the document number in a lineitem-
level InfoCube.

Create BPC - Dimension with SSIS Admin Task

Hallo experts,
I am figuring out features for BPC - Packages and wanted to create a dimension within a SSIS Package.
The "Admin Task" offers this feature, but unfortunately I can't find any documentation about the SQL Source Table,
which ist needed when configuring and executing this task.
Help is appreciated about the structure, location and naming-conventions for this table.
Another Question:
Where does the Admin Console store the dimension structure e.g. of the account dim?

Brian, your explanation is sound and i understand your requirements.
Essentially you need to run a dimension process on both your Prod/Dev servers.
At one of our clients, we customised the Dimension excel sheet with some VBA. Administrators could still process the dimension sheet normally but they could click a command button that dumped the excel file to dev and then launched an SSIS package - the main problem is that we used XPCMDSHELL to kick the package off that processed the dimension in dev.

After much thought we decided it was best to use SQL to keep the databases mirrored, SSIS to keep the OLAP procssed [in dev] and we used a batch script to transfer the webfolders.
You may notice that the final solution is very much like the automated backup solutions that many BPC practitioners have gone with in the past.

Error while creating user dimension in awm

I am new to awm. I am trying to create a dimension in my workspace, but i receive an error after i click 'create'. When i check the detailed error, i think its something to do with the OLAP_TABLE. Please find the error message below,

Which version of the database (not AWM!) are you using? (e.g. 11.2.0.3)
My guess is that there is a problem with your OLAP installation and that you will need to open a service request to get it resolved. But the following may help us to track down the problem.

I have installed r12 in my personal LapTop.
Every thing looks fine..
For testing purpose, I have created a Shell Script and registered concurrent program.
While i am running this program, program is getting error out with below message.

How to Create a Dimension Table in OBIEE11g

Chapter 9, page 221(if pdf) of the Build Repository manual of OBIEE 11g explains following.
Creating Dimensions in Level-Based Hierarchies
After creating a dimension, each dimension can be associated with attributes
(columns) from one or more logical dimension tables and level-based measures from
logical fact tables. After you associate logical columns with a dimension level, the
tables in which these columns exist appear in the Tables tab of the Dimension dialog.
To create a dimension with a level-based hierarchy:
1. In the Business Model and Mapping layer of the Administration Tool, right-click a
business model and select New Object > Logical Dimension > Dimension with
Level-Based Hierarchy.
Note that this option is only available when there is at least one dimension table
that has no dimension associated with it.I am still learning OBIEE, and I can not see the dimension menu item as per point 1 becuse i do not have dimension table associated with it. All I have done at this point is to create logical tables based on few physical tables in physical layer.

You create dimensions based on your logical tables. In a plain star-schema you would have one logical fact table and at least one or more logical dimension tabes attached (joined) to the fact table. Just follow the documentation and you would be good to go.
