Create global channels programmatically

hello all,
my question is related with daqmx.
i want to know if theres any way to create global channels or tasks programmatically without using max or daqmx assistant
the usual procedure is to create global tasks or channels using max or daqmx assistant and then add them to ur tasks programmatically.
i want to avoid the use of max here and create channels programmatically that can be used or called later.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

You can use the DAQmx Save Task or DAQmx Save Global Channel VIs to save them programmatically.
http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370469AA-01/lvdaqmx/mxsavetask/
I agree with Dennis though, almost all DAQ tasks can be accomplished using the standard functions. You might want to take a look at some DAQ examples by going to Help > Find Examples > Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx. I always start with these examples and modify them as needed.

is it possible to change a physical channel in global channel programmatically?????????

• How can I set the parameters of global channels and tasks previously created inside my application?

Hi everyone !
Before proceeding to the description below I think it´s important to say that I´m using NI USB-6008 as DAQ device and the driver used is DAQmx 7.5.
I´m currently developing an application into which I intend to be able to have complete control of the DAQ device being used, i.e, I´ll be able to create, delete and change the configuration of global channels and tasks previously created, among other things.
To achieve the ends specified above I´ve already developed two vis, one to create global channels and the other to create tasks, and these two are doing a fine job. After this, I thought I came to the easy part ... I think I couldn´t be far for the truth! I thought that everything I should do was to specify which channel or task I´d like to configure and then use a property node to get the results I wanted, but it´s not working ...there are some DAQmx property nodes I thought I could use to do it but I didn´t find a way to change the configuration of the global channels, and none of these property nodes seemed to work, i.e, although the simple vis used to test them ran the chosen parameters didn´t alter at all, after each execution I used MAX to see if they had changed, and to my chagrin they hadn´t.
Can anybody lend me a hand with this problem? As always, any help would be deeply appreciated !

Hi Giovani,
There is a developer zone tutorial that discussus some advanced data acquisition features including programmatic saves of NI-DAQmx tasks, global channels, and scales. This tutorial also includes an example program.
I wrote a short program that creates tasks in MAX. Whenever I wanted to change a part of the task, I would just change that feature in the example program. Take a look at the examples and please let me know if you have any further questions.

• Can Max global channels be programmatically added to a created task?

I can add Physical channels to a created task, but cannot seem to add global channels to a task that was previously created. The problem here is that I want to create my task with the channels (both physical and global) in a specified order.
Thanks,
Mike Sachs

Hi Mike-
You can add global virtual channels to a programmatically-created task by using the DAQmx Create Task VI. This allows you to create a task with existing global virtual channels and then add virtual channels at run-time in the usual manner. Here's an example that shows a global channel (created for Dev5/ai0) and a virtual channel within the same task:
Hopefully this helps-

• Virtual Global channels created but not selectable

I have recently updated all of my drivers to the latest version for Labview 7.1 in Windows XP. As a result of this upgrade, I no longer have access to my virtual global channels, which all transferred and still exist. Old vi's created with global channels continue to execute, and existing tasks, which reference virtual channels continue to work; however, I believe that this is a result of the NI drivers converting and storing these configurations as logical channels. Anyway, when creating a new task from within MAX, or using the DAQmx express vi's from within Labview, I no longer have the tab that allows me to select which virtual channels to add to that task, eventhough all of the virtual channels are still defined correctly and available from within MAX.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kike,
After your harddisk crashed, did you reinstall everything? Make sure that you installed LabVIEW first, then the DAQmx drivers and finally the hardware. If you did not install in that order, then it's possible that issues might arise.
Are you saying that you have 10 Global Virtual Channels and 7 Tasks, but now you don't see them, or is the issue still when you try to create a new task you don't see the Global Virtual Channels avaliable?
As for the example finder, are you getting an error message like NI Service Locater is not Running or are you not able to find the NI Help Server? You can click on the two links for some trouble shooting steps if that is the case.
If my assumptions are not correct, please provide more information so that I can understand your situation.

• Programmatically Create & Configure Channel

Hello,
I have a DAQ board which accepts universal inputs. I have to design a configuration screen for all the channels available for properties based on type of input Strain, Voltage, Current, Thermocouple Etc. Based on this I have to do Data Acquisition.
I have been trying with DAQmx Task create and Channel Create for past few days but unable to find a solution. Can anyone suggest. My device is NI9219 Universal module on a NI9174 Chassis.

Hi,
I don't have much to show cause nothing so far worked. To explain a bit more.
My device have 4 Universal Analog Input channels ( NI9219 in a NI9174 Chassis)
I need to configure each channel for type of input( Type of Analog Input) and specific properties to that type of input. E.g. Bridge configuration for Bridge based sensors or Thermocouple setting . I tried using create Virtual channel Vi but that do not allow to select type of input programmatically. Until I do that I cannot get full control of the properties. I do not want to use Max for creating channels or tasks everytime. One reason can be because Create Virtual Channel is a polymorphic VI.
The workflow have to be
Select Channel > Select type of input > Configure property based on type of input > add to task . This have to be done 4 times for 4 channels.
On Execution the DAQ will read this task for measurement.
Once all the channels are configured I need to create a task . Based on this my Data Acquisition will work.

• Missing adapter "templates" - am not able to create communication channel

Hi guys!
I need to create communication channel in the Directory, but I can't, because if I want to select channel type (soap, http, ...) I get screen with information: No objects found.
What could be wrong?
Thanx a lot for answer!
Olian

Olian,
In the Integration Repository, you should have a software component SAP BASIS, which contains the adapter metadata. If this is not there, you should import the software component according to the installation guide:
Importing the XI Content for Software Component Version SAP Basis 6.40 SR1
1. Copy XI3_0_SAP_BASIS_6.40_09_00.tpz from <Components DVD>/XI /XI_CONTENT to directory /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/global/xi/repository_server/import/
2. On your SAP XI host, call transaction SXMB_IFR.
3. Choose Repository (Design).
4. Choose → Tools → Import Design Objects
2. Choose the file /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/SYS/global/xi/repository_server/import XI3_0_SAP_BASIS_6.40_09_00.tpz
5. Import the file.

• ORA-00955 reports when I try to "create global temporary table" in windows

Hi,
When I try to run the sql in my oracle 9i server which is installed in a windows2000 machine,
Create global temporary table test ...;
For the first time, I can create table successfully.
But I cannot access this table any more:
drop table test;
desc test;
select * from test;
In addition, if I try to create the table again, I got the error:
ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
While the same table can be created and dropped in another oracle9i server which is installed in Solaris 9 machine.
So I suspect that this sould be a bug of window oracle server.
Is there anyone who can confirm this?
Or who can tell me how to report this bug to oracle?
Thanks in advance.

But the ORA-00955 reports when the author try to create table for the second time.

Hi,
"CREATE GLOBAL TEPORARY TABLE ..." is not a PL/SQL command; it is a SQL command only.
Create the table, using that statement, before running the PL/SQL block.
You can issue SQL statements from within PL/SQL using the EXECUTE IMMEDIATE command, but this is rarely a good idea.
I assume the PL/SQL code is meant to create the table and then populate it.
You should split those into two separate pieces of code. You'll only want to create the table once, no matter how many times you use it. I assume you'll want to populate it the same way many times. Remember, the "TEMPORARY" in "GLOBAL TEMPORARY TABLE" refers to the data, not the table. When you end a transaction (or a session, depending on whther you want "ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS" or "ON COMMIT PRESERVE ROWS"), the data disappears, but the now-empty stays, ready to be populated for the next transaction (or session).

• How to create a channel for a PXI-6509

I am working on a program to control the PXI-6509. The one area that I am having problems with is creating the channel by calling the function DAQmxCreateDOChan. I get no errors when first calling DAQmxCreateTask, but get an error when trying to create the channel. How exactly do you create the name for the channel? In MAX, I named the device "DIO", not sure if that matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Java.lang.NullPointerException while creating Communication Channel

Dear friends
First of all, I have already looked at many existing postings with java Null Pointer problems and also looked at the links that other users had suggested. It hasn't helped and therefore I am posting this question here.
I am trying to create Communication Channel using Integration Scenario Configurator.
I get to a stage where it gives a java.lang.NullPointerException error + an InternatlError. Here is the log of internal error. However, if i Continue ignoring the error message, it creates two communication channels that I wanted (Sender Soapadapter and Receiver RFC adapter), but the values in these adapters will not be completely filled.
Has anybody seen this problem before. We are using the latest and gratest SAP that is available in the market.
(PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE ERROR MESSAGES)
Thanks

• Modification of Global channels In NIMax while Labview Program running, not updating in Labview

Hello,
Okay, here is my issue. I have a program that reads data from a device using global channels in MAX.
Step 1: I open MAX with the systemExecute.vi with the parameters to wait till program finishes.
Step 2: I Modify a channel in Max, for example change the assigned daqMX Scale, or Min Max values.
Step 3: Save channel in Max.
Step 4: Exit MAX with the file exit.
Step 5: The Labview program continues, and I re-read the available global channels and global scales in the Labview vi but the properties have not changed to match what I change in MAX.
If I stop the VI then start it again and read the global channels then the properties get updated. How can I get the channel properties to update in Labview after changes are made in Max without stopping the labview vi and starting it again?

Many properties of the channel can only be modified when the task is not running. Have you tried stopping the task in LV before modifying the parameters, and then re-starting the task?

• Why do we get so many vi's when using "DAQmx Create Virtual Channel.vi"?

Hi there,
Could anyone explain me why we get hundreds of sub-vi's when I use the
vi "DAQmx Create Virtual Channel"? This can easily be seen by exploring
the hierarchy of Labview examples such as "Acq&Graph Voltage - Ext
Clk.vi"???
This multitude of vi's considerably slows down my computer, especially at loading. Is there any way to get rid off that???
Thanks in advance for you help!
Jonas

Hi,
the easier you have to program, more subVI´s needed for your kind of application. Because the VI´s from DAQmx are polymorph, so many SubVI´s are included in the VI´s. In traditional DAQ you have several palettes for each kind of measuement method. Analog In, Analog Out, Digital, Counter, ...! In DAQmx you have one VI and that can all.
But, the performance of you application at runtime is not affected. Of course it takes some time to load, but just at development environment not as an application.
Figure 3. Polymorphic VIs simplify the NI-DAQmx API.
