Create MySQL database for WordPress on Leopard - How to?

Hi, folks.
I've been trying to install WordPress using this tutorial http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2757/leopardhow_to_installwordpress/ but I've been facing two major problems:
1. I can't find the hidden file .profile - I have already used TextWrangler to browse though my folders and I still couldn't find it.
2. No Terminal command mentioned in the file seems to work. All of them return error messages.
Could anyone help me to figure this out or simply tell me an easier way to install WordPress on Leopard?
Cheers.
JP

1. I can't find the hidden file .profile - I have already used TextWrangler to browse though my folders and I still couldn't find it.
It's entirely possible, and valid, for there to be no ~/.profile.
If that's the case, just create it.
2. No Terminal command mentioned in the file seems to work. All of them return error messages.
Can you give an example, including the error message. The error message will go a long way to explaining why it didn't work.

  • How can I configure a mysql-database for new cms install?

    I just install a mac os x server on os x 10.8.4, but can't create a database to install a cms, how can I do this ? How cann I access the database from admin window or else ?

    Consider acquiring some external hosting as part of your efforts, then?  Various folks offer this hosting, and that gets you out of maintaining (most of) MySQL and Drupal, and more time to spend on your web site and whatever else you're working on.
    As for your questions, please follow the installation instructions for installing MySQL, then follow the instructions for installing Drupal.  The OS X Server setup is basically the same as any other Unix system, too; what you're doing on Ubuntu is more or less the same as what you're doing on other Linux and Unix systems, and on OS X and OS X Server.  (This is also at the core of why most of these add-on widgets expect you to set up your PATH, too.)
    The Drupal database connections are managed under the sites directory, a subdirectory located within the Drupal directory tree.  You'll find subdirectories for the specific Drupal sites you've configured there, with a settings.php file for each.  There's also a general sites directory with modules and themes that can be applied generically.  The settings.php file itself can be edited with nano, vim or emacs via the command line, or with one of a very few ASCII-capable GUI editors.  If you don't know what I'm referring to here, use nano editor.
    Yes, you can install phpmyadmin on OS X.  I wouldn't, though.  Sequel Pro has a much more familiar interface for folks that use OS X, and you don't have to protect that tool quite like you have to protect and maintain phpmyadmin against attack.  Do not allow remote access to phpmyadmin, as ill-secured sites are a popular target for remote attacks.
    The Drupal web forums are a pretty good resource for Drupal-related questions, too.

  • I can not create mysql database

    I installed mariadb and mariadb-client. Whent I type this in command line
    mysql> CREATE DATABASE menagerie;
    a text file was created which name is CREATE and it consist of mysql --help output.
    How can I create mysql database?

    I think the problem is that you took the instructions too literally. There's a system command line, and a MySQL command line; you're likely looking for the second.
    Try running in your terminal:
    $ mysql
    This will bring up a MySQL prompt that will look like:
    mysql>
    inside of which you can run your "CREATE DATABASE" command.

    It's not common to create databases with Java. I'd say this is especially true of JSPs. You'll have to GRANT permission to access and create tables to every single user that comes in? Are those tables cleaned up when users are done, or does the number of tables grow as the number of users grows? One table per customer? Sounds more like session or cookies to me. Do you validate users to make sure that only authorized users can create tables? Lots of problems, and it doesn't appear that you've addressed any of this from the code you've posted.
    It's a bad idea to have code like this in a JSP. Those are for view only. Better to put database code on the server side where it belongs.

    But anyway, the normal way to obtain security clearance is to use a signed applet.
    Another possibility is to grant the applet all permissions by modifying the security policy file of each client to grant your applet 'all permissions'. Note that in this case you must have access to each and every client PC or ask them to do so before running the applet.Database access at client's machine is ridiculous. I doubt this is what OP wants.
    @OP: request you to post the original security issue and the environment details.

  • How to create a database for sample code from Tutorial/Book?

    I want to try out the sample code from [http://shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920013471.do] for the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed.
    I have downloaded the oracle vm/appliance for oracle 11g2 and I have started sqlplus as sysdba.
    I'm feeling overwhelmed with these links describing how to create a database:
    [http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/admin/creatingdbmanually.html]
    [http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-7-HOWTO-3.html]
    [http://www.adp-gmbh.ch/ora/admin/creatingdbmanually.html]
    (1) What is the command to list the existing databases?
    (2) What is the command to delete an existing database?
    (3) When creating a new database with the create database command, is it necessary to specify the logfile, character set, national character set, datafile, sysaux datafile, undo tablespace, temp table space? Do these have reasonable defaults? I'm not sure what proper directories are to specify for Linux and the examples are for windows.
    Can someone give me a simplified create database command to create a database called 3rdEdPocketGuide? Should I follow the example at [http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Oracle-7-HOWTO-3.html] and instead of orcl use 3rdEdPocketGuide?
    (4) What command do I use to execute the script that comes with the book SQL Pocket Guide 3rd Ed? This is the script that has all the drop table, create table and insert commands in it.
    (5) What command do I use in sqlplus to set the current default database prior to running this script? Perhaps this is the connect command? I don't want my script to create tables in the system database.
    (6) I tried the command "connect 3rdEdPocketGuide" and it prompted for a password! Yikes! What password? Do I need to specify a password when I create a database? I cannot tell if I have successfully created such a database or it is just prompting me for a password to thwart malicious users. Is it is possible to create databases which don't require a password or maybe a zero length password?
    Thanks
    Siegfried

    Everyone:
    Do I need to create a user using SQL*Plus first so I can login with "Oracle SQL Developer" so I create my database called? What would be the "create user" command I would execute?
    OK, so I run sqlplus and issue these commands
    create user siegfried identified by abc ;
    grant connect to siegfried ;
    connect siegfried/abc;
    Now, how do I create a database? In Microsoft SQL Server one has to create a database first and if you just start creating tables without creating a database first, the tables will be created in the system database and this is usually undesirable.
    Sometimes a database is known in the java connection string as the catalog. Is there any such analog in oracle SQL plus?
    So now what do I do? I want to create a bunch of tables using my script I downloaded from 3rd Ed SQL Pocket Guide. Does my new user "siegfried" have the right to create tables? I guess I could try but I don't want to create tables in the system database.
    I noticed I can also use "Oracle SQL Developer" to connect with my new "siegfried" account. It seems that I should have been able to connect with sysdba... strange.
    So now I am connected in the "Oracle SQL Developer" and I see no list of databases.
    Thanks!

  • Error while creating standby database for ebs prod database

    Hi,
    We are getting error while trying to create a standby database for EBS database by using RMAN DUPLICATE commands,
    Steps followed:
    1.) Backup the primary database (Ebs PROD db). This was done on 12-Mar-2012
    ***RMAN backups are scheduled to run @10:00 pm every night. Flash Recovery Area has been configured and backup is taken at this location
    everyday.
    2.) Tar the backupset, autobackup, archivelogs etc in FRA .... and copy this to the target server (STANDBY).
    *** Copy(oracle rdbms binaries and FRA) completed @12:00AM on 14-Mar-2012
    3.) Tried to create standby database by using RMAN duplicate on 14-Mar-2012
    RMAN> rman sys/sys@PROD auxiliary /
    RMAN> duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;
    After, some time the RMAN DUPLICATE process errors out with,
    ORA-19563: header validation failed for file
    We are not sure about the cause of this error. While searching in Metalink, we got several notes (ex, 352074.1) but all the causes stated for this error
    are not applicable in our case. We double checked our instance to confirm this.
    We have also found that in PROD database there are 65 datafiles and after the RMAN DUPLICATE errors out in the targer server (STANDBY) the RMAN managed to restore 51 datafiles before erroring out.
    # Please note PROD database was also backed up on 13-Mar-2012. We have a suspicion that backup on 13-Mar may be a possible cause for this error but we are
    not sure.
    Need suggestions if there can be any other possible causes???
    We are in a fix and it would be appreciable if we get some quick suggestions..

    When opening the file to be placed in a copy or backup set, to be inspected, or used as the target for an incremental restore, its header was not recognized as a valid file header for a file of the indicated type (data file, archived log, or control file) belonging to the current database.
    Kindly Ensure that the correct files are being specified for the copy or backup operation.

    I am a Chemistry teacher and am trying to create an app for my students.  Our books are way out of date and I am needing wisdom to learn to do this.  Please help!

    Hello and thank you for your email!  I am currently using the  2004 version of Prentice Hall.  Our books have been taped  many times and are in very rough shape.  We have one portable computer cart for our entire high school and do not have wi fi, yet our school in Ludington, MI has been ranked top 8% in the nation for academic success.  My passion is teaching kids to think outside the box and I believe teaching them to create an app for a tough chemistry concept will be am amazing experience!  I think the reason our American children are falling behind is because we are not teaching them according to the way they are wired.  I may be wrong but need to find out.  Creating this app will be both a learning experience and a research opportunity.  Thank you so much for your words of wisdom as I begin the uphill climb in my journey. • How to create a database for keeping track or similar topics

    I have been using Macs for years. Only to do what I needed. Not a geek. In Appleworks years ago I could create a data base where I could organize categories i.e. I am a yoga teacher and could list the various poses that were good for headaches. Some of these were also good for something else. With the data base I could parse through for what I was looking for. I want to do that again and cannot figure out how to do it.
    Help appreciated.

    You could probably use something like [Bento|http://www.filemaker.com/products/bento/features.html] for the job, or even do something basic with a Spreadsheet in Numbers or Excel.

    Part 1: At First Glance
    MySQL is most commonly entered through telnet. (A nice Telnet program, Easyterm, can be found at http://www.arachnoid.com) Once the telnet connection to the web server has been accomplished, a second command provides access to the MySQL server. The procedure to make these connection is as follows:
    1. Connect to telnet. This involves the insertion of the given ISP username and password.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------login: devshed
    Password: ********
    Last login: Wed Aug 12 09:49:14 from 195.103.124.222

    BSDI BSD/OS 2.1 Kernel #12: Mon Feb 23 13:46:27 EST 1998
    You have new mail.
    www24:mywww/devshed#
    2. Connect to MySQL. This involves the insertion of the username and password given specifically for MySQL use. This information has probably been provided to you at your request to the ISP provider.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------www24:mywww/devshed# mysql -u devshed -p--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Syntax: mysql -h hostname -u username -p[password]
    Or
    mysql -h hostname -u username --password=password
    The user will then be prompted for a password, as prompted by -p.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Enter password: *******--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Assuming MySQL has been correctly installed and configured, the user will see output similiar to the following:
    Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
    Your MySQL connection id is 49 to server version: 3.21.23-beta-log
    Type 'help' for help.
    mysql>
    (Note: If an error message pertaining to "Access denied" is the result of connection attempts, you should consult the MySQL documentation included with the software, the MySQL mailing list found at http://www.mysql.com, as well as your ISP provider. These resources will aid greatly in resolving these problems.)
    Once connected to the database, we are free to execute the various commands of the MySQL language. However before we are able to modify the database, we must first connect to it, via the command:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------mysql> use devshed;
    Result:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Database changed
    Mysql>
    You now are connected to the database. Note that the command was followed by a semi-colon (;). Almost all commands in MySQL are followed by a semi-colon.
    At the disposition are a number of administrative commands. These commands can be viewed simply by typing help, \h or ? at the command line:
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------mysql> help
    help (\h) Display this text
    ? (\h) Synonym for `help'
    clear (\c) Clear command
    connect (\r) Reconnect to the server. Optional arguments are db and host
    edit (\e) Edit command with $EDITOR
    exit (\) Exit mysql. Same as quit
    go (\g) Send command to mysql server
    print (\p) print current command
    quit (\q) Quit mysql
    rehash (\#) Rebuild completion hash
    status (\s) Get status information from the server
    use (\u) Use another database. Takes database name as argument
    Connection id: 49 (Can be used with mysqladmin kill)
    mysql>

    Let's make this simple:
    a) Your book seems to assume you're doing development remotely.
    b) You are not doing development remotely.
    c) Therefore, you shouldn't follow every step listed in your book (i.e. ignore the stuff about Telnet).
    Assuming you installed mySQL in the standard location, you can use this batch file to start mySQL on your machine:
    @echo on
    cd c:\mysql\bin
    mysqld
    @echo off
    cls
    Use this batch file to shut down mySQL:
    @echo on
    cd c:\mysql\bin
    mysqladmin shutdown
    @echo off
    cls
    You can play around without a login or password in development. For a production environment, you're going to need to set up users and grant permissions.
    Spend some time reading the mySQL documentation.
