Create New Library From Old

My iTunes library has a bunch of holiday music that I would like to move to a new library. This would keep all of the Christmas music separate and would make it easier to switch to the "Holiday library" for those few weeks of the year that I would listen to this genre. Is there a way to export just my Holiday music from the current library to the "Holiday library?"

Make a copy of your library files in a new location. Open the old one and delete the Holiday music. Open the new one and delete all the non-holiday music.

I just starting using iPhoto and have created a library with all my photos of 2004-2005. I also have a large collection of old family photos I've been building up (from the 20's, 30's and 40's) and want to create a separate library just for this project.
How can I take old photos and create a new library then remove them from my current library?
I don't want to lose the keywords and comments that have been assigned to the photos thus far.

Thanks for your response. I get how to create and navigate multiple libraries. I'm just wondering if there are easy ways to move images between libraries and maintain all the meta data such as keywords, descriptions, dates, etc.
Trying to understand the dynamics to get my storage scheme in place. I can't keep everything on my laptop forever. Looking to establish a migratory path.
I shoot about 1500 pictures per year, 2500 on years where I've done the big Europe/Asia trips. So far I have one library with years 2004 and 2005 and starting to add 2006 as I go. About 3000 images. I have 1999-2003 that I am thinking about starting a new library with or adding to the current. Although at some point, I'll want to migrate older stuff to an external drive while keeping active stuff on the laptop.
Hence, can I move images from one library to another and keep keywords/comments, etc.

Creating new projects from old ones without deleting the wrong audio files!

We did a piano & vocal recording session recently and recorded about a dozen songs. Voice audio files and midi (pianoteq) for piano. At the moment these are organised into three projects according to genre - classical, showtunes and jazz standards. I now want to get each song into its own separate project but while I need to avoid duplicating too many audio files, I'm also scared to death of deleting anything!
Can someone please walk me through how I do this? I THOUGHT I knew and then a dialogue box (thankfully!!) flashed up saying something like, "Are you sure you want to delete these files they are shared by other projects?"
I basically want to "save as" one of the large projects, rename it according to the song title and then delete the other songs from the Arrange. I thought I could then "select unused" in the Audio Bin and it would be cool because the original audio would be in the old (renamed) project . . . but I seem to have that wrong? Or I've missed a step?

Open the song. Cut the tracks at the appropriate places. Name the newly created regions with the correct song names. Select all the regions and then the command that turns the regions into new individual audio files. After the files are written, go into the audio bin and select unused. Delete unused. Save as (without resources) "Master Song". Then I'd delete all but the first pair of tracks from the arrangement. In the audio bin select unused again then delete. Logic will dump the unused parts out of the audio bin without deleting them from the drive. save as "First song" Re-open the master song and do this again with the second set of tracks.......

As long as don't have any metadata attached to the broken files which you would like to preserve...
You could use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to "check for dead tracks on startup"

Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Ctrl-A to select them and Shift-Delete to remove them.
You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.
If there are ratings, play counts etc. attached to the broken links, but you've since reimported the files from another location then I have a script called FindTracks that could probably repair the broken links, and another called DeDuper that could dedupe and gather up the stats while preserving playlist membership etc.

Need help transferring itunes library from old computer to new laptop

I recently purchased a new laptop and am having trouble getting my library to transfer to my new laptop, i followed this step by step process http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US and in the end ended up with no music on my ipod and no music in the itunes library on my new computer...
So then i went into Itunes on the new computer and clicked import library under File, so i found the Music folder that i had transferred over and it imported the music but all my playlist were not there, just songs. So i ended up syncing my ipod back to my old computer so i would get all the songs and playlist back on as it was originally before this whole process...
My desktop runs XP while my new laptop runs Vista Ultimate w/ SP1 home edition, dont know if this matters...
So not sure where i should go from here, i have already Authorized my laptop with the itunes store , i was thinking of uninstalling Itunes on my laptop and starting over from scratch, will this help?
BTW when i did the original transfer i used my Ipod as the hard drive as it had plenty of storage room left on it, i do have access to a 250GB external HD i was thinking of using that and trying that to transfer the library...
So if anyone can tell me how to transfer my Itunes library from old comp to new laptop it would be greatly appreciated...

The method you used should work if followed exactly.
The key points are - is your music all together? It must all be in the iTunes Music folder in the iTunes folder.
When you copy the iTunes folder to the iPod you get the library database with your playlists and the iTunes Music folder containing the music files.
Since you had trouble doing this with the iPod, why not try copying your iTunes folder to the external drive.
The method is identical the one for the iPod except you leave out the iPod specific stuff.
You install iTunes on the new PC, then you drag the newly created iTunes folder out the Music folder to the desktop, then you copy the iTunes folder from the EHD into Music, replacing the one you dragged out.
When you have done that, you need to check that your account has full control of your iTunes folder - Vista is fussy about that - you will not be able to edit track info if you don't have full control.

Please describe the steps you used to get where you are now. From putting the old library into TM to creating the new one and what do you see and were do you see it.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

Tried to use home sharing to transfer itunes library from old pc to new -- however it only brings over the music, did not bring audiobooks- My question is do I need to delete itunes from my new pc when I redo using external hard drive

Used home sharing, but not what I wanted, I want everything on the new so I can discard the old pc - so now all I have is my music library on new pc thru the cloud none of my Audible audiobooks came over - My question is do I need to delete iTunes off my new pc before I load it in from a external hard drive?

You might need to make sure neither is going to sleep (System Prefs > Energy Saver)
Also check your settings under System Prefs > Security. My sisters new laptop kept logging off due to some setting there.

Before you connect any device to a new library go to the Devices tab of the the preferences panel via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or iTunes > Preferences (Mac) and ensure the box next to Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically is ticked. You can now safely connect the device to your computer without the danger of media being automatically deleted or overwritten.
To get all your content off your connect your iPad to your new computer.
Then use a 3rd party piece of software to transfer your content
