Create OMF tablespace using DBConsole

How to create a tablespace using DBCONSOLE(10gr2 OEM)? The OEM screen keeps asking for the datafile name, which invalidates the OMF feature if i don't want to name the datafiles and have oracle decided it.

Create tablespace using RAW device

Hi,
When you create the tablespace using RAW device, you no need to specify the size parameter in the sql. It works in Solaris but not in Linux.
I dont know why, can anyone experience this issue before? please let me know

My advice for you would be to always include SIZE parameter when you create tablespace, redo log file on raw device.

Can one Datafile be used to create 2 tablespaces

Can i use one datafile to create 2 tablespace.
Acutally i am creating new tablespace , i want to use existing datafile already used by one tablespace, but it almost empty..
Need suggestions?

Data file is phisical and tablespace is logical. A tablespace can have one or more data files but one datafile can be part of single tablespace only.
In your case the existing tablespace can be resized and with that space you can create a new tablespace with a new datafile

Rman Recovery using backup created using dbconsole

Thanks for taking my questions. First, I see there is another person asking about rman recovery but I am hoping mine is not identical.
BACKGROUND
Archiving and flashback is on.
Database is 11g.
Full on-line database backup is done using dbconsole (oem) and includes control, spfile and archive logs.
RECOVERY
I am testing my recovery to a new serve.
I installed oracle
Restored a backupset from one backup to the new servers flashbackup area.
Recovered the spfile ok
Recovered the control file ok
Found last seq number ok
Restore database ok
RECOVER DATABASE UNTIL SEQUENCE - NOT OK
Error=DATAFILE 1 MUST BE RESTORED FROM BACKUP OLDER THAN SCN
QUESTIONS
Where did I go wrong?
Could it be my rman backup didn't backup all necessary archive logs?
How do I fix this and can I fix it using dbconsole?
Also, is it still possible to fix the test server without loading any new files?

Hello,
To answer your questions, it looks like your backup is out of sync with SCN for datafiles with your Oracle 11g database.
What you need to do is first check the low SCN and current SCN for your database to that in your RMAN backup files.
You can check backups in RMAN command line with
RMAN> list backup;
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

Then open another prompt window and SQL*PLUS session as sysdba privileged account:

You need to make sure that you are trying to restore database with RMAN with a backup for the SCN numbers that are older than the current database SCN in database or Oracle will complain.
Enterprise Manager dbconsole will work but nothing beats the power of a command line.
Use the automated repair options for the Oracle 11g Database Repair advisors.
1. Connect to RMAN
rman target=/
RMAN> list failure;
RMAN> repair failure preview;
RMAN> repair failure;

Unable to create a tablespace under user scott despite of many privileges

Hi,
I use user scott to test a rdf database using oracle 11.2.0.2 contained in oracle developer days in my oracle linux enterprise guest system. However, I am unable to create a tablespace under scott. The error message says insufficient privilege. Actually, I granted all privilege in Roles, System Privileges, Object Privileges to scott in the OEM panel. I also granted resource, create session, create table, unlimited tablespace to scott in sqlplus as well. However, I am still unable to create the tablespace. The command I used for creating tablespace is below:
create tablespace rdf_tblspace
datafile '\home\oracle\app\oracle\oradata\rdf_tblspace.dat' size 14m reuse
autoextend on next 10m maxsize unlimited
segment space management auto;
Error at Command Line:1 Column:1
Error report:
SQL Error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
01031. 00000 - "insufficient privileges"

SQL*PLUS console not coming back when create a tablespace in ORACLE RAC11g

Hi all,
I have run a create command in oracle RAC 11g system (2 nodes, ASM) by SQL*PLUS, every datafile for this tablespace is 1.5GB, I want to create 6 tablespace at the first:
1. It run successfully for the first tablespace , it toook 4-5 minutes to come back;
2. It run much longer time for the second tablespace , it took over 20 minutes to come back;
3. The third tablespace , I waited for 45 minutes and it didn't come back.
I have check in alert.log, and saw all three tablespace were successfully created about 4-5 minutes. And I also use another SQL*PLUS to query in user_tablespaces. the third tablespace did display in user_tablespaces view.
From that time, I tried 4,5,6, it took me 30 minutes to create 1.5GB big tablespace. It doesn't make sense for me.
Any sugguestion? Thanks.

How did they create the disk group?
How big are the devices/LUNs?
are all of the LUNS the same size?
Check the alert log for both the RDBMS and ASM.
What redundancy did they use?
in asmca, what is the total size of the disk group(s)? ( or sum total_mb from v$asm_diskgroup for each disk group)

How to create a tablespace

Connect to a database as a user with DBA privileges (usually SYSTEM), and execute a command like this:
create tablespace TABLESPACE_NAME datafile size 20G autoextend on next 2G;
Choose tablespace size according to data volume estimates. Set autoextend size to roughly 10% of the initial size. Use G for Gigabytes, M for megabytes, or K for Kilobytes.
Replace TABLESPACE_NAME with an actual name, following this naming convention:
TABLESPACE_NAME = PREFIX_PROJECT
PROJECT = name of the project, up to 24 characters
Tablespace consists of one or more datafiles. In our standard configuration datafile can be up to 64GB in size. If you expect a tablespace to be bigger than that, add one or more datafiles like this:
alter tablespace TABLESPACE_NAME add datafile size 20G autoextend on next 2G;
Note: if it is a temporary tablespace, use TEMPFILE keyword instead of DATAFILE.

Correct. The sum of all user tablespaces is not allowed to exceed 4 GIG.
You could try shrinking your tablespaces. Theres a script called maxshrink on http://asktom.oracle.com which is useful for this.
You could compress your tables.
If you are storing lobs, you could consider storing them as bfiles.
Or upgrade to Oracle Standard Edition 1. Its not that expensive.

Create table problem using Dynamic Query

I want to create a temporary table within a stored procedure so I decided to do it using a dynamic query:

/ It created successfuly but when I execute that procedure I got:SQL> exec p1;
BEGIN p1; END;

ORA-06512: at line 1 While I can create that table using the same user without any problem!
My question is:What privilege should I grant to user(minimum of privileges please! ) to execute that procedure successfuly?

How to exclude UNDO and temp tablespace using monitoring template

hi,
as per MOS note id 816920.1 undo and temp tablespace is excluded from monitoring starting version 11G onwards.It says that thresholds will need to be explicitly set if undo and temp needs to be monitored
we have grid 12C implemented now with monitoring templates which sets thresholds for all tablespaces. does it apply that thresholds to undo and temp too?? we are receiving alerts for undo and temp tablespaces and we wish to disable them. We have undo tablespaces with different names in many databases as per naming conventions for that line of business.
How can i exclude undo and temp tablespaces from monitoring using grid 12C monitoring templates. is there a way through templates where i can set thresholds of permanent tablespaces only???

In EM12c, go to the 'Enterprise' menu, then 'Job', then 'Library'. There should be an out-of-the-box job called "DISABLE TABLESPACE USED (%) ALERTS FOR UNDO AND TEMP TABLESPACES" that you can run against your database targets, and that job will disable database-generated alerts.
If a previous admin has set up EM12c-generated alerts for undo and temp, then yes, a monitoring template will take care of disabling them. Either remove those alerts from the existing monitoring template and apply them to your targets, or create a new monitoring template based on one database's current settings, remove those warning/critical thresholds for your undo and temp tablespaces, and apply it to your targets.

Tablespaces used in user schema

guys,
I want to find all tablespaces used in user schema - scott. I tried using views like v$tablespace, v$datafile.. but doesnt seem to help.
any suggestions/inputs ??

Oracle 8.0 - how to identify temporary tablespace using dba v$ views

Hello experts,
can someone tell me how can I query a v$ or dba_ view to identify which are the temporary tablespace in a 8.0.5 Oracle database?

8.0 did not have the concept of tempfiles.
However, a Tablespace could be created as a Temporary tablespace (still using "normal" datafiles) with CREATE/ALTER TABLESPACE tablespacename TEMPORAR.
Meaning : You can't query DBA_TEMP_FILES or V$TEMPFILEs. You have to query DBA_USERS to identify the designated Temporary Tablespace(s) and then query DBA_TABLESPACES for the storage parameters and then query DBA_DATA_FILES for the files.
You can also query DBA_TABLESPACES for CONTENTS='TEMPORARY' and then query DBA_DATA_FILES.
