Create Time Dim from 2 dimensions

Hi all,
I have an essbase cube with 2 dimensions related to time.
Year (Contains Years) and Time (that contains Qtr, Months and days).
I'm working with OBIEE and would like to know if I can create 1 Time dimension that combines Year and Time so I can have:
2010
- QTR1
-- Jan
-- Feb
-- Mar
2011
- QTR1
-- Jan
-- Feb
-- Mar
I've been playing a little bit in the OBIEE BMM, but I get the error "Missing most detailed table for dimension tables [Time, Year]. Could not load navigation space for subject area xxx"
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Any one?

  • Creating Time Dimension from date columns in fact tables.

    I remember watching a demo from a BI Tool a couple years ago, wich I swear was OBIEE, and the presentator stated it was possible to create a Time Dimension in the admin tool, based on a date column in other table.
    Can you guys tell me if there's such functionality in OBIEE?
    If so, how could I achieve that?!
    Thanks in advance!

    hi,
    You are trying to make Fact table as Dim table ???
    Fact table has some dim columns??
    We can do this by making a fact table as dim table ,create a dim hierarchy on that table
    Year level :Extract(year from fact_date_column)
    Month and year  level:CAST (Extract(month from fact_date_column) As CHAR(5) ) || CAST (Extract(yearfrom fact_date_column) As CHAR(5) )
    Like this
    But,be careful while doing this make sure that all joins and content levels are good
    As per my knowledge this is not a good way,Experts can add some words lets see!!!!!! :-)

  • Creating a time lapse from a video

    Is there a way in iMovie 09 to discard frames in order to create a time lapse from a video that has already been shot? I realize that the normal way to create a time lapse is to assemble a group of stills into a video. What I'm looking for is sort of the other way around. If this is not possible in iMovie, does anyone know of other software that can do this?
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Yes. For example, you can set the speed to 800%.

  • Creating Time Dimension

    Hi
    I have a fact table which has a time data stored in two columns, month_id,year_id.
    My fact table looks like this
    Sales,Month_ID,Year_ID
    How can I model a level based dimension for time for this sort of table ?

    You can map the time dimension to a view on top of your fact table as long as the fact is sufficiently dense in time (e.g. there are no missing months). The view would add end date and time span info as appropriate. Alternatively you can define a view that generates dates. The following thread shows the latter approach
    populating a date dimension
    You can adapt the view in it to derive time info from your fact if you like, but the standalone view is probably easier.

  • Create time dimension table in repository without data warehouse

    Hi,
    I want to implement only BI repository solution in my customer (not datawarehousing). Is it possible to transform the data by repository tools, so that the times columns in fact tables are categorized by the "time dimension" table?
    To be more explanatory:
    The "Sales" table has the "time of sale" column. It contains the timestamp when the sale was performed. I have imported this table in "physical layer" of the repository. Now I want to create a new "time dimension" table, something like:
    CREATE TABLE dimension_time (
    Day_Key INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY,
    Day_Timestamp DATETIME NOT NULL,
    Day_Name NVARCHAR(32) NOT NULL,
    Day_Text NVARCHAR(32) NOT NULL,
    INSERT INTO dimension_time VALUES (20110101, {d '2011-01-01'}, '1/1', 'January 1', 'Saturday', 0, 6, 1, 1, 185, 1, 201052, 'W52', 'Week 52', 52, 201101, '01', 'January', 1, 7, 1004, 'Winter', 'Winter', 20111, 'Q1', '1st Quarter', 1, 20103, 'Q3', '3rd Quarter', 3, 20111, 'S1', '1st Semester', 1, 20102, 'S2', '2nd Semester', 2, 2011, '2011', '2011', 2010, '10/11', '2010/2011', 0);
    INSERT INTO dimension_time VALUES (20110102, {d '2011-01-02'}, '2/1', 'January 2', 'Sunday', 0, 7, 2, 2, 186, 2, 201052, 'W52', 'Week 52', 52, 201101, '01', 'January', 1, 7, 1004, 'Winter', 'Winter', 20111, 'Q1', '1st Quarter', 1, 20103, 'Q3', '3rd Quarter', 3, 20111, 'S1', '1st Semester', 1, 20102, 'S2', '2nd Semester', 2, 2011, '2011', '2011', 2010, '10/11', '2010/2011', 0);
    and after to add a new column in "sales" fact table for "time dimension ID" and through the repository populate this column based on the "time of sale" column and the corresponding "time dimension ID".
    I know that the ETL process might perform it, but I do not want to go for Data Warehousing (it is not real - time, needs more resources, etc).
    Is it possible to perform such action only on repository?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    I can do it, but this would be usefull only to create "time dimension" table. But also the "sales" fact table needs to be altered (thus, the "time" column will not contain the value of the time, but the ID of the corresponding time in the "time dimension" table).
    I know that on DW this procedure is done automatically by the ETL process.
    My question is that does the repository has any tools similar to this?
    Thank you.

    Time machine should have a good copy - how are you determining that it is corrupt
    If you want the thumbnails as photos right click on the iPhoto library and make a copy of the data folder and then import it into a new iPhoto library - it contains your thumbnails

    timer job has its own app.config, which is completely separate from the web.config
    plus, this is a terrible idea.

  • How to Combine Time Aliases into One Time Dim in Presentation Table

    Hi,
    As per the requirement I have created 7 time aliases and created joins to the fact in physical layer and the same in the BMM as well. I guess I’m correct till this stage.
    However I want all the aliases to be combined into one time dim table so that only one time dimension will be available in Presentation layer Can I do it if yes what’s the process, now I’m showing all the time aliases in presentation which I don’t want to.
    Please suggest me to solve this.
    Thanks,
    SMA

    HI Arjun,
    Please look at Sample Sales rpd "D0 Time" table(BMM layer) it was coming from different physical alias tables based on that how the hierarchy was built
    Its not creating any attributes under the dimension so hoe to create the levelsRight click on hierarchy add Parent level and child level then pull the columns from your time dim to hierarchy

  • Time utility shell dimension across multiple date dimensions

    Hello,
    I have built a time utility shell dimension based on a solution from Tomislav Piasevoli (book: MDX with SSAS 2012 cookbook) however I have modified it slightly
    In his example he uses two hierarchies from the same dimension. However I have modified it to use two different date dimensions, 1 hierarchy from each of the dimensions. The hierarchies must be able to be filtered by one another or combined
    in the same query. The problem I’m having is my solution does not work for
    distinct count measures. It works for every other type of measure…sum, count of rows etc etc. The filtering works perfectly when one hierarchy is filtered by the other, it’s just the distinct count that won’t show the parallel period.
    I have created the shell dimension the typical way. Creating a named query like below. Creating the dimension with the default value etc etc
    SELECT
    0 AS ID, 'As is' AS Name
    UNION ALL
    SELECT
    1 AS ID, 'Year ago' AS Name
    Below is the original MDX and my modified MDX. If anyone can help that would be great!
    --original mdx for one date dimensions.. the below works perfectly for all measures including distinct counts
    SCOPE( [Time Calcs].[Calc].[Year ago]);
    SCOPE([Date].[Date].MEMBERS,
    [Date].[Calendar Year].[Calendar Year].MEMBERS
    This = (ParallelPeriod([Date].[Calendar].[Calendar Year],1,[Date].[Calendar].CurrentMember),
    ParallelPeriod([Date].[Calendar Weeks].[Calendar Year],1,[Date].[Calendar Weeks].CurrentMember),
    [Time Calcs].[Calc].&[0]
    End
    Scope;
    End
    Scope;
    --my modifed mdx for multiple date dimensions.. the below works perfectly for all measures
    except distinct counts
    SCOPE( [Time Calcs].[Calc].[Year ago]);
    SCOPE([Date].[Date].MEMBERS,
    [Date].[Calendar Year].[Calendar Year].MEMBERS
    [Delivery Date].[Date].MEMBERS,
    [Delivery Date].[Calendar Year].[Calendar Year].MEMBERS
    This = (ParallelPeriod([Date].[Calendar].[Calendar Year],1,[Date].[Calendar].CurrentMember),
    ParallelPeriod([Delivery Date].[Calendar Weeks].[Calendar Year],1,[Delivery Date].[Calendar Weeks].CurrentMember),
    [Time Calcs].[Calc].&[0]
    End
    Scope;
    End
    Scope;

  • Unable to create time series ago function

    Hello guys
    I am running into a problem about time series function, ago function
    I have a simple schema, fact <---->Time dimension
    I have created time dimension hierarchy where month is the lowest level, I have also made it "time dimension" and month is the "chronogical key"..
    When applying ago function, I am putting my measure from the fact table, level as "month" from time dimension table, and 1 meaning 1 month ago, when I complile it, I get the following error:
    [nQSError: 27009] Unresolved identifier: "FTTNBILLSUM"."FTTNOBIEEBILLTIME"."Month".
    Could anybody help me out as what the system doesn't like about this column?
    Thanks

    Thanks Maden
    I did the correction and now it's giving a different error: [nQSError: 22038] Function AGO requires at least one measure attribute in its first argument.
    My code is:
    Ago("FTTNBILLSUM"."F_Bill_Sum"."ATM_UNITS_Sum" , "FTTNBILLSUM"."D_Time"."Month" , 1)
    I have time hierarchy that names: D_Time with Month at the lowest level with Chrono keys, there is no level above it except grand total level, so only 2 level hierachy
    I have a fact table that is F_Bill_Sum, which is join to D_Time... I made the D_time both the name of table and hierarchy
    Please let me know what this error is coming from

  • Create Ytd measure from essbase accounts

    Hi,
    We have separate dimension for Year and Period (Month) in Essbase without Ytd member for period. In BIEE, how do we create YTD measure from existing logical column?
    Thanks,
    GT

    Hi narthan,
    According to your description, you want to select data between first day of this year and last day of previous month. If that is the case, we can achieve your goal by two ways:
    • Adding where statement to the query without using parameter like below:
    where column_name between DATEADD(yy, DATEDIFF(yy,0,getdate()), 0) and dateadd(ms,-3,DATEADD(mm, DATEDIFF(mm,0,getdate()), 0))
    • Adding two parameters named StartDate and EndDate by following steps:
    1. In Dataset Properties dialog box, in Query text box, add where statement like below, then the parameters will be created automatically
    where column_name between @StartDate and @EndDate
    2. In Design surface, expand Parameter node. Right-click @StartDate and open Parameter Properties dialog box.
    3. In Data Type drop down list, select Date/Time.
    4. In left pane, click Default Values, then select Specify Values.
    5. Click (fx) button, in Expression text box, type the following expression, then click OK to save the options.
    =DateSerial(YEAR(Today()),1,1)
    6. Right click @Enddate and set Data Type to Date/Time as step3.
    7. Repeat the options of step4 and 5 above, and type the expression like below, then click OK.
    =DateAdd("d",-(Day(today())), Today())
    For more information about Adding Parameters to Filter Reports by Date, please refer to the following document:

  • Create Time intelligence Filter like performance point

    Hi in my cube I have some attributes like in my DIM Calendar such as
    today,yesterday, currentweek,last week, monthtodate etc.
    I would like to create a Time intelligence filter/hierarchy similar to how you can in performancepoint but it is actually a hierarchy in the DIM Calendar dimension.
    Is there anyway this can be done?
    Regards

    I do something similar in many of my date dimensions.  All I do is add a few columns on my Date table view to provide values for CurrentDay, Yesterday, SameDayLastYear, YesterdayLastYear etc.
    You can do the same sort of logic for weeks and months.  Note, this won't do MTD etc, but you can do that in the cubes Time Intelligence.  The advantage of the CurrentDay, CurrentWeek, CurrentPeriod, and CurrentYear attributes is that reports can
    be relative in time.  ie, the filter can be a multi-select of this period and last period, showing weeks on columns, which will have 5-9 weeks.  Always being the last 5-9 weeks, without the user having to change the current period etc.
    See my blog for more information and examples.
    http://richardlees.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/relative-dates-today-yesterday-lastweek.html
    Hope that helps,
    Richard
