Creating a Blog Archive vs Sidebar

I've searched and found some previous articles but the resource links have recently been deleted.
We have a blog with 200+ articles. The gentleman who controls the blog creates new tags each post. Therefore we have 175+ tags listed. I wouldn't mind these being included in our sidebar but not 175+ of them.
Therefore, I've been trying to find a workaround to create an Archive page like you would find with Wordpress. I created a page outside of the blog module using the correct tag syntax - no luck. I tried creating a blog post and adding the correct syntax to pull all tags - no luck.
Is there a way to create a blog archive page where I can list all the tags and the previous X-number of recent posts?
Thanks!

Hi there,
You have tags to tag keywords but you also have the categories and the caterogies in the admin to set up and also tag. You also have the archive ability.
You can find the tags here: http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/134/bc_1342.html#main_Blogs

  • I want to create a blog on my website but don't know where to start.

My server is Lunarpages and they have Wordpress for creating a blog.
Can you direct me to simple bulleted instructions on how that might interface with using my website template that is consistent for all html pages?
I already have eBlogger.com blog but when I try to use their edit HTML feature and paste in my template code, I get an error message that the "meta" code doesn't have an end tag. They say I need to add the end tag. Here's the code they pointed to:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"content="text/html; charseet=iso-8859-1">
My template works fine with my website. What do you think is happening here with eBlogger? Lunarpages forum recommends I set up with Wordpress. Trying to save time here. But if WP works better overall, I'll do it.
    I basically want these things:
use my template so it's consistent with all pages.
blogg not only allows me to post but also comments and automatic archiving (i.e. past 60 day)
    Have best security for blog.
I also want to add a button that lists those social networks I post on. I am hoping it's possible to set up one blog and have what I post automatically posted on the others (i.e. Facebook, Google, eBlogger). Is that possible? An example of a link Lunarpages has:
    http://www.addthis.com/pages/toolbar-landing?utm_source=hm&utm_medium=link&utm_content=ATI EToolDL_orig&utm_campaign=ATCMIE_DL

WordPress is in a class of it's own.  It began it's open source life as a blogging system but it has evolved into a powerful, feature-rich CMS (content management system).  In short, if you elect to use WordPress on your domain, you might just as well use it for your entire web site.
To work with WordPress, you will need a firm understanding of HTML, CSS and how PHP includes work.
WP requires you to set-up a dynamic work environment (see links below)
Find a WP Theme you like that won't require much customizing on your part.

  • Links in blog archive not working

Can anybody help me get more reliable performance from my iWeb archives page?
    http://web.mac.com/truthmaker/Site/Blog/Archive.html
I am getting very frustrated with the Archives page for the blog I've created with iWeb. Often -- very, very often, the links on the Archives page for past posts are corrupted -- not by me, but somehow by the software. When these links are clicked, instead of showing the proper link and taking viewers there, the link looks like: http://web.mac.com/truthmaker/Site/Blog/$link$. This of course results in one of two different types of "Page not Found" pages.
    One looks like this:
    Not Found
    http://web.mac.com/truthmaker/Site/Blog/$link$
The requested URL was not found on this server.
    お探しのURLはこのサーバーでは見つかりませんでした。
L'URL que vous avez sollicitée n'a pas été trouvée sur ce serveur.
Die URL, die Sie angefordert haben, wurde nicht auf diesem Server gefunden.
The other is a more professional-looking page that says "We're sorry, but we can't find the iWeb page you requested. . . "
This is maddening to the point of being infuriating. These links are not always corrupted, but it seems to happen randomly and frequently. This has nothing to do with my links, which are all fine when published. It appears that this is an issue with MobileMe.
Anybody have any ideas on what I can do? My blog is extensive (more than 100 posts over eight months) and I have lots of people accessing it. The blog serves both personal and professional purposes and I cannot afford or tolerate such spotty performance. Though I love Apple products, this alone is enough to make me cancel my MobileMe subscription and look into web-hosting from a different vendor.
Can anybody help me get more reliable performance from my iWeb archives page?

    TruthMaker wrote:

Did you wait long enough for the 'archive' page to fully load before you clicked on a link ?
If not, then you may have clicked on an incompletely loaded url, resulting in the "not found" MobileMe page. (yes, indeed it's about fractions of a second, that is why it seems to happen randomly)
If this happened in Safari, clear the cache and wait for the page to fully load. Does that help ?
Ps : I can navigate from your archive to the corresponding entry ( tried 4 random links)
For other browsers, if you wait long enough for the page to fully load and then do a "reload page" and again wait long enough ... does that help ?
When you hoover over the links and do get a $links$ move over to the next one, go back... now do you see the correct link ? Not always, but most of the time it's a blog entry with a very long filename.

  • Create a blog

How would I create a blog? Do I need to download a program or
    is it all in Dreamweaver?
    Thanks in advance,
    M

ThemeDreamer isn't a blog. It is just a design utility inside
Dreamweaver used to edit the "Theme" files that make up a blogs
design or ‘look and feel’. You use your WordPress blog
like any other WordPress blog. You can’t tell if a WordPress
site was built using ThemeDreamer because its just a utility to
help edit theme files more easily. Here's the break down:
WordPress is a content management system (program) you run on
a webserver, it makes a 'website' with which you can interact with
to create posts or diary entries and web pages through a
special/hidden administration page. All the public viewable pages
inherit a 'theme', a common look and feel consisting of a header,
    footer, menu, sidebar, etc.
Dreamweaver is a design tool to create 'web pages' (not
necessarily websites). A typical web page designer usually designs
a good looking HTML page using Dreamweaver (what its good at) and
then passes it off to a software engineer that hacks it to pieces
to make it interactive. If you want to change the design, its
usually too late or you have to revert back the original HTML and
    start over.
ThemeDreamer is a utility you use inside of Dreamweaver to
visually edit the header, footer, sidebar, etc. directly. These
files dictate a WordPress site’s look and feel without having
to resort back to the original HTML files. Just do a google search
on WordPress theme files and you can find thousands of beautiful
templates that you can download and use for free. ThemeDreamer just
enables you to open up the thousands of free theme files so that
you can more easily customize them in Dreamweaver by seeing them
    visually in Design View.

  • Blog Archive Questions

Hi, I have created a blog using iWeb 08 -- it currently has about 50 entries and about a dozen photo pages, and I am getting ready to publish. I tried a publish to a folder so I could see that everyting was OK, and it created two questions:
    1. I thought the "Archive" link would appear in the navbar -- I indicated in the Page Inspector that I wanted it to appear there. It does not -- the only way to access the archive is through the "Blog" link. Any ideas?
    2. When you go to the archive and scroll to the bottom (the oldest entry), it allows you to click on a "Next" button. When I do this, it doesn't take me to the next sequential entry (e.g. the next most current entry) -- instead, it jumps me around my entries throughout the archive. How can I get my entries to appear in the order I want them to using the "Next" button?
    Many thanks,
    Monica

Thanks, looks like this is a fixed situation that requires ingenuity to work around - too bad. But thanks for the reply.
you can also dynamically change the page css with javascript by way of html Snippet, but there are drawbacks... one is that the date will be displayed until the html snippet is loaded, then the javascript does its things and the date will be removed.
How do you access the .css file for the page? I take it's on the iDisk?
    yes.
I cannot find it - Some of my directories are password protected - and I dunno what pass or login would open them. Do you know how to set these?
i don't know, i don't have mme. but i imaging it would be in System Preferences.
Also wouldn't editing the .css file cause a error in iWeb once I cause a dis-synchronism within the web page data and the online data?
only when you publish entire site, then you have to redo the css files. keep copy of the modified css files will save you time.

  • Blog/Archive may be corrupted, what to do?

For over a week now, I've been struggling with the same publishing errors ("Can't create the file Shapeimage..." while attempting to update my Blog. While I can't be certain, the issue seems to surround the Archive, as that's the page that, while attempting to publish, inevitably results in the error message. Regardless, I've been unable to complete a Publish.
Can anyone offer some helpful suggestions as to how to remove/rebuild the Archive - thereby forcing iWeb to recreate the Archive from scratch? The Blog is nearly 300 entries long.
Also, I've newly encountered something called "Library," housed used Blog/Archive in the Site Organizer. What is Library?

    Randy...
I don't know if this will make a bit of difference at all in your situation, but it's something that I've tried in the past with no ill effects. Make iWeb generate a new Domain file for your site...
    1. FIRST AND FOREMOST, make a backup copy of your Domain file NOW.
    2. Open up iWeb and just leave it open...
    3. Go back to your original Domain file and drag it to the trash. But don't empty the trash!
    4. Now click back to iWeb and select "Save" from the File menu
    5. iWeb should complain that your Domain file is in the trash and ask if you want it to save a new Domain file. Accept the default location.
When iWeb is done saving, you should have a new Domain file sitting in the default location (/Users/username/Library/Application Support/iWeb/). Quit iWeb and reopen it again to make sure that your site is still there with the new Domain file (remember your original Domain file is still in the trash if you need it!). Then try to publish. Let me know if you see any difference. NOTE: This may trigger a "publish all" type of event, so it may take a little while.

  • Firefox 3.6.27 (Mac) doesn't work with Google Blogger's Blog Archive links?

I noticed this just started happening about week ago. Firefox 3.6.27 (Mac) doesn't work with Google Blogger when clicking in the Blog Archive sidebar links. I can't upgrade because I'm using a PowerMac. Anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

I press the combination after having some of the document's text selected, otherwise there wouldn't be anything to apply the paragraph style in the first place. But the real thing is I do the exact same with other paragraph styles combinations (Cmd+Alt+1, Cmd+Alt+2, Cmd+Alt+4, Cmd+Alt+5...) and it works. In Safari, even the one I'm interested in works (Cmd+Alt+3). The natural solution, it appears to me, would be a shortcut conflict, but I can't manage to find it, not even disabling my four add-ons (Adblock Plus, bookmarks-deiconizer, Customizable Shortcuts, YouTube to MP3). The Google forums are not finding a solution either. Anyway, thank you for trying.

It can be coded form scratch but it's much easier to download and install a solution like Wordpress on your hosting account.  No need to re-invent the wheel.

  • How to create a Blog in Adobe Muse

Hi, who created a blog in Adobe Muse, help me please!

Unfortunately, you can't create a blog in Muse, not yet anyway. I've been researching this for a long time, and you just can't do it. If enough folks ask Adobe for it, then it will probably be added to a future update. For now, the only thing you can do is get the embedd code from an actual blog like Tumblr or Nabble, and then copy that bit of code using "insert HTML" on your Muse page. That will give you a generic looking little scrolling box with your latest blog entries, but it's probably not what you're looking for.
What I've decided to do is create a custom blog in Blogger, make it look as close to my Muse site as I can, and then just link it into my Muse site using a custom nav button. So I redirect my visitors to the Blogger site. If you customize the Blogger page enough with background images, colors, fonts, etc, your visitors may not even know they left your site unless the look in their browsers address bar.
I hope that's helpful. But if you're not familiar with Blogger, it's through Google, it's free, and it's a great blogging platform.

  • How to change the color of blog titles on blog archive page?

So while I'm waiting for apple to fix iweb's publishing problem, I might as well do a revamp of my site in the meantime.
One thing I've been itching to change, but can't is the color of the blog titles on the main blog archive page? They show up in red, even when I change the color on the actually blog entry page to blue. Can anyone please help?

All of this style information is contained in the .css files that iWeb publishes. Here is a very informative introduction to editing these files...

  • Create a blog with coldfusion

    hi
i am looking to create a blog on my website, and am thinking
its best to put all my entries into a database, so I can allow for
    comments on entries etc..
However, I am aware that blogs often contain images and
alternating design, and wondered how to accomadate this considering
all my blog entries will be held in the database.
For example, if I was to create all my blog entries free hand
directly onto the page, I could align my images where I like etc,
whereas I wouldnt have this freedom if outputting all my blog
    entries from a database..
    e.g
    <cfoutput query="blog">
    <p>#blog entry</p>
    </cfoutput>
would it be viable to set out the way I would like the blog
entry to look free hand first, and then post all code into the
database, including code for images etc..
just wonderin how others do it..
    thanks

I'd suggest using Ray Camden's BlogCFC.
    http://blogcfc.riaforge.org/
    It's robust and continually updated.

  • About creating a blog

I am very interested in creating a blog website. From what I
have read it is nescessary to use the php format, someone correct
me on this if I am wrong. In the tutorial sections on the adobe
website one of the first steps mentioned is setting up the server
environment. Now have another website using flash and html that I
was going to purchase hosting space online in order to get them up
on the net. the question is: can I host a blog website in that way
or must the server be set up on my computer. I guess I'm kind of
confused and need some direction on this, someone PLEASE set me in
    the right direction.

Are you planning on creating your own blog code or using
    blogging software?
If you dont't want a unique name and are OK with not being
    able to add
advertizing to the site you can use www.wordpress.com you
    will be able to
set up a blog for FREE and it will have the URL something
    like this
www.yourblogname.wordpress.com But you can not add adsense or
    any other
    advertizing
    another option
Use Blogger - again your URL will be someing like
www.yourblogname.blogspot.com - but with blogger you can add
    advertising
    such as adsene etc..
If you want a unique website name then obtain the domain name
    and then set
up a hosting account with a webhosting company and then set
    up the blogging
software with this webhost. Some hosts already have blogging
    software
    installed.
You can use wordpress from www.wordpress.org - this version
    allows
advertizing (note you get the sofware from the .org site and
    it is fee)
There are other blogging software out there as well.
If you want total freedom, set up the blog with a webhost
    (just like you
    would with any site)
