Creating a gif that is a progression of filter effects

I want to take a single image and create a gif from it that is a sequence of frames with a particular Photoshop filter effect going from a maximum to zero effect. Lets take for example a Gaussian filter. The initial frame would have a heavy Gaussian filter applied and the last frame would have no filter applied. I want the effect to take maybe a second or two with 10 to 20 frames per second.
I don't imagine this will be trivial or easy... that's not my question. My question is if anyone has suggestions on how to optimize the work flow in creating this effect.
I'm a programmer and I've done photoshop javascript programs in the distant distant past if that might help but I'm not sure if this project requires that level of effort.

Yes. This is much easier than I expected. The wonders of progress.
There are two ways to do it. Your method is more general purpose and more accurately accomplishes my original objective. Another method is to make one duplicate layer and apply the filter to it. Then create a video timeline and change the opacity of that layer from 100% at the beginning of the time period to 0% at the end of the time period (two "key frames" ?). Then export the gif.

Creating a Gif is different frame rate

If I have an uncompressed .AVI file that I created in After Effects CS5.5 which is 23.976 fps, and load it in Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5, and tell it to create a .GIF of it, at an output fps of 23.976, when I load the created .GIF into Adobe After Effects it tells me the frame rate is 25 fps and there is a black frame padded on the end. I want the frame rate of the GIF to be what I ask it to be, ie. 23.976, with no additional black frames.
Here's what happened with screenshots:
1. I load the uncompressed AVI file that was created in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 into Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5. Note below that Adobe Media Encoder is saying that the source clip is 23.976 fps, and that the export settings are to create an animated GIF at 23.976 fps.
2. After Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has said "done" (Encoding Completed Succesfully) for this export to a .GIF, if I take that .GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder has just created into Adobe After Effects CS5.5, this is what it says:
As can be seen above, Adobe After Effects CS5.5 is saying the GIF file that Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5 has just encoded is actually 25 fps, not 23.976 fps like I told it to be exported as. Also, the GIF Adobe Media Encoder has created is 10 frames long, whereas my original uncompressed AVI is 9 frames long.
Edit: I've just been reading up on the GIF format and it seems it doesn't store a frame rate but instead stores a frame delay, which is in hundredths of a second. If this is just an integer, is this the reason for the displayed frame rate discrepancy, ie. 1 frame at 23.976 fps would be 4.1708 hundredths of a second I think, and 1 frame at 25 fps would be 4 hundredths of a second I think - both rounded to the nearest integer would be 4 hundredths of a second so would the frame delay be set to "4" for both 23.976 fps and 25 fps? (there is also the fact that some short time will be taken for the drawing of the frame)
Though even with the above, it shouldn't be increasing the amount of output frames. It converts it correctly (no additional frames) if I use VirtualDub to convert the AVI to GIF instead of Adobe Media Encoder CS5.5.

Could you get them to also check other parts of the code too. eg. when I had a work area set in Adobe After Effects CS5.5 and then loaded that project into Adobe Media Encoder (dynamic link etc.) and rendered just the work area I think it was about a frame out then too - I don't think it was a GIF in that case but another type (maybe AVI/H264).

Creating animated gif with transparency

I have created an animated gif that fades in from nothing (transparent) using the opacity tool.
when i save as optimised in Imageready the image fades in in a kind of grainy unatractive way.
is there any way i can adjust the optimisation settings so it doesn't do this? or any way of using tween to overcome it?
when veiwed in 'original' view it fades in beautifully with no grainyness

The GIF format only offers 1-bit transparency so you either have pixels there at 100% or at 0%. A pattern or diffusion dither is used to fake partial transparency. This is where you see the grain.
You're trying to do something that the GIF format does not support. You need to approach this differently. Web page elements that fade in are done with javascript or Flash/SWF.

Creating Animated GIF using Frames

I would like to create an animated gif without using the 'tween' tool. Basically, I'd like to have an object move across the screen, stop at one point, perform a task (i.e., move arms/legs up and down in a 'jumping jack' style) and then continue on across the screen. I create the first frame then click on the 'duplicate frame' icon. In this frame I use the puppet warp feature to change the position of my object's arms/legs. Next, I duplicate the frame again and repeat the puppet warp process. Finally, I continue to duplicate the frames, moving the object 'x' spaces each frame until it finishes its journey across the screen.
Unfortunately, when I change the position of my object's legs/arms, it changes all of them across all frames. However, the program still allows the object to continue its journey across the screen.
Because of this, I have had to create separate jpg files for each and every one of the object position changes, then import each one with the 'place' tool into the layers and finally create frames from layers and save the gif that way.
Is there a way to do the above without having to create a separate jpg for each one?

If you're using the Puppet Warp tool, I may suggest you change your workflow. When you duplicate a frame, it doesn't necessarily duplicate the object that is being animated so each change you make will show up in every frame. Instead of duplicating frames to make your changes, try duplicating layers. It will be a good deal easier than saving out a .jpg for each image and then placing them in.
1. Create your background.
2. Create a new layer for the object you will animate. Position it how you want it to look in the first frame of your animation.
3. Now, duplicate the layer and use the puppet transform tool to make your first change.
4. Repeat this process: duplicate your most recent layer, make your change, duplicate your most recent layer, make your change, etc. (To keep your workspace clear you may want to make each previous layer invisible when you add a new one)
5. When you're completely finished, open your Animation panel (CS5) or Timeline panel (CS6) and in the flyout menu, choose Make Frames From Layers
This workflow is essentially what you're doing already, but you're duplicating layers instead of frames and then making the frames automatically.

Creating a .gif file in QT Pro?!?!

What you want to do (create a .gif using QT Pro) can't be done. QuickTime can open .gif files (even preserve transparency) but the saved file will be .mov.
You can create an Image Sequence movie that will resemble the features on an animated .gif file, however.
Create your still images (sized identically) and save them to a new folder using sequencial naming (1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, etc.). They can be any format that QT understands.
Select Open Image Sequence, navigate to this new folder and highlight (single-click) the first file in the list. Click OK and select a "frame rate" for the new file.
QuickTime will assemble your files into one .mov file.
Graphic Converter can now do some work with .mov files and may even be able to export your image sequence. .gif is 8 bit (256 colors) so if you wish to use the .gif format you will lose a lot of data if your original QT import were in any format other than .gif.

Creating a GIF using CS3

I am trying to create a GIF using CS3. I have read the discussions on Adobe but I get to a stage in the instructions and it is not working for me. I have 6 jpeg photos, and i bring them all into one. All photos are named different. After reading the forums, the next step is FILE>SAVEAS. Next, you select COMPUSERVE.gif. Once I select that, I have no idea where to go. It would be much appreciated if someone could help me out. Thanks

Creating Animated Gifs in Illustrator?

In PS if you have a layered file, you can create an animated gif via SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES.
But it seems you can only create static gifs via SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICES in Illustrator from layered files.
Please! Say that ain't so - that I'm missing some small detail that will allow me to do this same thing from Illustrator!!!!

Going via PS is tons of extra work. Uneccessary work! What happens is that for some strange reason, the layers come into PS weird. the icon for EACH layer is a folder AND a subfolder. So they have be flattened one by one and THEN turned into frames in the animation layer AND THEN saved as a gif. So what's perplexing me - is seeing the same SAVE FOR WEB AND DEVICE dialog box in Illustratore - yet it only saves static gifs.
Is it really true that i have to go through all these extra steps? Yikes! I wonder why Adobe would do that, and yet go through all the trouble to let you export swf's. It seems so very poorly planned by Adobe that i keep hoping someone will tell me I'm missing something - and that there's a way to do this from Illustrator.

Can I create a gif file with hyperlink hotspots?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to create a gif file in Photoshop or Fireworks than I can upload to a website as a background image to my profile page, but I would like to be able to include a few different hyperlinks embedded within that gif file, so for instance if a user clicks on the text for a website this acts as a hyperlink and opens the site in a new browser window.
Is this possible or not, my knowledge of Photoshop/Fireworks is quite limited but as far as I can tell, this is only possible if I'm exporting the image from Fireworks as an HTML document, and that's not what I need .. it has to be in a gif or jpeg format.
Can someone put me out of my misery please and let me know if its possible to embed one or more hyperlinks within certain areas of a gif file?

Publish error: failed to create chr_book_op.gif

I'm using RH10 as part of TCS4. Multiple projects that are routinely updatedfor the past 10 years suddenly (since the last update) now all fail during the Publish operation with an unhelpful error "Failed to create chr_book_op.gif." The projects generate without error so this is not a problem within TCS4. Since the error occurs in multiple projects, I assume it is a connectivity issue. To test, I verified that I can manually (using Filezilla) FTP all files to the target Web site so I know the FTP settings are valid. I have verified that the Filezilla FTP settings are the same settings as defined in the project's Publish settings. The only thing that changed since the last update is that I swapped out a broadband modem. Everything works correctly with the new modem, and I assume that since I can successfully manually FTP, the modem is not the source of the problem.
Has anyone seen this error before? I'm at a loss as to how to further troubleshoot. It would be a nuisance if I cannot use RH's Publish functionality.

I created a test project (as WebHelp). It generated correctly but again failed during Publish at the same file (chr_con_out.gif) that causes all of my other projects to fail. The .gif file is present in all of my projects and is part of the standard Chrisi skin. Here is a screenshot of the error:

How to create BI templates that can appear on Blackberries

Hello,
I am trying to create web templates that will appear on some BI users' blackberries. They use Blackberry models 8110 and 8520. Using the Blackberry simulator for testing, I have managed to get the web templates to appear on the Blackberry screen.
Unfortunately, I cannot display output in a table or graph format. Right now all I get is a line by line text display. I also cannot get variable screens to appear. We are using BI version 3.5 to create the templates. I understand it is not possible to use BW 7 for this purpose.
Does anyone know of any tricks or techniques to get table or graphical web template output to appear on a Blackberry screen?

Nearly every DVD that will play on a set-top player *should* play on a computer, provided two things:
1.) the computer has a DVD player that can handle that flavor of DVD media, DVD RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD DL, etc.
2.) the computer has a software player installed. This feature has been removed from some common media players. You may need to locate, download and install a separate software player.
There could be another discussion on interlaced vs progressive scan media, but I'll let you ask that question.

I was reading up that it's possible to this with menus, and tracks but can you do it with a button and how?
I am hoping to create a button that people viewing my discs on a computer can click on the link and their web browser will pop up and take them to a website.

- Mac users have to enable the feature in the preferences of DVD Player in order to for the links to work.
- PC users have to install a small application on their PC, and they have to reboot the PC in order for the links to work.
- On top of this, it's still unreliable, and may not work on some computers.

Is there a way to create a rule that sends and Auto Response for a shared mailbox?

I have a shared mailbox set up that receives emails that are sent to 3 different addresses:

[email protected]
I would like to create a rule that would send an auto response when someone emails one of these addresses. However, I don't want an auto response sent to [email protected] so I can't just set up an "out of office" reply for the mailbox.
Is there a way that I can create a rule to send an automated response to 2 of the 3 addresses?

we can enable the shared mailbox in ADUC and create Outlook rules for it in Outlook to achieve it. please follow these steps:
1. In Active Directory Users and Computers, right-click the shared mailbox and click Enable Account.
2. Configure the Outlook account for the shared mailbox in Outlook.
3. Click Rules > Manage Rules & Alerts.
4. Create a rule like the following format:
Apply this rule after the message arrives
Have server reply using a specific message
Except if the subject contains specific words
Select exception(s) (if necessary) of the Outlook Rule - (“except if from people or public group“)
5. Apply the auto reply rules for this shared mailbox.
Then users can receive auto reply of the shared mailbox except the exceptions we have set when they send messages to this shared mailbox.

I was trying to create a report that uses Oracle OCI JDBC connectivity. I am using Eclipse3.4 download from "cr4e-all-in-one-win_2.0.2.zip". I have successfully created a JDBC OCI connection.
The connection parameters are given below:

I have tested the above connection in Data source Explorer and it works fine!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to create a report in Creystal Reports Designer 2008 using OCI. It is not allowing only in the Eclipse plugin. In our environment we are not allowed to user Oracle thin connections and ONLY OCI is allowed.
1) Can you please let me know if there is a way to do this?
2) Will it allow data sources using native database driver?
3) If so, can I use JRC to create these reports from a desktop java program?
