Creating a role to update a view

Hi.
Oracle 10.2.04. Linux 4.
I have been reading about updating views. The Oracle documentation http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/views001.htm#i1006887 states that:
The owner of the view (whether it is you or another user) must have been explicitly granted privileges to access all objects referenced in the view definition. The owner cannot have obtained these privileges through roles. Also, the functionality of the view depends on the privileges of the view owner. For example, if the owner of the view has only the INSERT privilege for Scott's emp table, then the view can be used only to insert new rows into the emp table, not to SELECT, UPDATE, or DELETE rows.
This is helpful, but doesn't resolve my issue.
A role has been created to allow access to a view called SALES_RESULTS:
create role update NOT IDENTIFIED;
GRANT INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE ON SALES_RESULTS TO update;
GRANT update to user;
When user tries to update the view however, an error is returned. (Sorry, I dont know the error just yet!!)
In essence, my question is: in order for the updates to work, does the user 'user' need explicitly granted priviliges on the underlying objects, as stated in the Oracle doc extract above - which was discussing the owner of the view?
Thanks.
DA

You have an actual example that shows it does not work. Also, it is stated in the documentation.
What else do you need?
Kind regards
Uwe

    Hi Mike,
CRSE is an OEM Product and for use with a custom application they have written. Unfortunately we don't their reports or how they are connecting, it would appear they were originally built off a SQL and then set to a Dataset in the app or they could be adding the data source at runtime. Lots of variations and without access to the source code to see what they are doing not much we can help you with.
You need to contact the OEM Partner for help in resolving this and find out what you can and need to do to update your SP and work with their canned reports,
    Thank you

    Hi Ajay,
As the Error shows :java.sql.SQLException: Attempt to set a parameter name that does not occur in the SQL: 1
it means somewhere in your query u r setting a parameter value which is nat there.
check all your code for update and create where u r trying to set parameter(may be in whereclause).
    hope this works.
    Thanks.

  • Is there any way to create admin role only for one resource.

    Hi all,
I am trying to create an admin role with 'update user' capability. But I want to restrict the user(with the admin role) to be able to update a user's attribute only for one resource, The user(with the admin role) should not be able to update the attributes of the other resources which a user have.
Is there any way to create admin role only for one resource?
I customized the tabbed user form to show only one resource attribute (deleting the missing fields and adding my tab for the resource) and then assigned this new User Form to the user(with the admin role) in security tab.
It works fine. But the problem is that if any user(with the admin role) is also admin of some other resource then he/she will not be able to view the other resource attributes.
    Please suggest,
    thanks

The loop function always repeats the same region so of course the fade is also copied. So option+drag the original region to make a (non clone) copy, fade the first region and loop the second one (which you just copied).

  • Is it possible to create a spatial index on a view?

    Hi
Is it possible to create a spatial index on a view?
We would like to link our spatial tables to each other (using only one of the SDO_GEOMETRY fields) in a view & make it very easy so that anybody can work with the data.
    Thanks Caroline.

    Simon,
In order for autoregistration to work, you first need to make sure that all entries in mdsys.sdo_geom_metadata_table are registered with SDE. All tables not just one schema. None of our spatial tables or views exist in the SDE schema.
Also make sure all Oracle Spatial tables in sde.table_registry are held in mdsys.sdo_geom_metadata_table.
When a user makes a database connection in ArcCatalog, all Oracle Spatial tables will be registered with SDE automatically. Also, entries will be inserted into mdsys.sdo_geom_metadata_table and indexes will be created. If you do not have primary key fields, you will have to Register with Geodatabase and it will create the OBJECTID field.
This did not work for us originally. but after cleaning up metadata and installing SP1, it is working now and it is very convenient.
    VIEWS:
You have to create the view thru SDE. You cannot register foreign views. There are bugs in support of views containing SDO_GEOMETRY objects. I have been told some problems will be fixed in SP2 and there may be a patch out to address some others.
Here are the incidents I have filed in reference to views:
    1.
I created a view consisting of a geometry column from a "foreign" Oracle
Spatial table (SDO_GEOMETRY) and corresponding attribution in another table.
I used the following command to create the view through SDE:
    C:\arcgis\arcexe81\BIN>sdetable -o create_view -T gis_v_traffic -t
    "trims_traffi c_geom,traffic" -c
    "trims_traffic_geom.geometry,trims_traffic_geom.fid,traffic.i
    d_number,traffic.aadt" -w "trims_traffic_geom.mslink = traffic.mslink" -u
    gis -p spatial -i esri_sde -s JJ0DN10
    ArcSDE 8.1 Build 832 Thu Mar 22 14:08:07 PST 2001 Attribute Administration
    Utility ----------------------------------------------------- Successfully
    created view gis_v_traffic.
I can preview the geometries in ArcCatalog without error.
However, when I try to select a feature in ArcMap I get the following error:
The instruction at "0x125222dd" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The
    memory could not be "read".
    I click ok.
    Then I get this error:
The insruction at "0x5f8012d3" referenced memory at "0x00000004". the memory
    could not be "read".
I click ok and ArcMap terminates.
I can select features from the spatial table the view is pointing to, but
    not from the view itself.
    2.
I need to create views utilizing database links to tie attribution in other
databases to geometries created for that data in a spatial database.
I issued the following command from command prompt and got this error:
    C:\arcgis\arcexe81\BIN>sdetable -o create_view -T link_v_traffic -t
    "trims_traff ic_geom,[email protected]" -c
    "trims_traffic_geom.geometry,trims_traffic_ge
    om.fid,[email protected],[email protected]" -w
    "trims_t raffic_geom.mslink = [email protected]" -u gis -p
    spatial -i esri_sd e -s JJ0DN10

Spatial Views created on Oracle Spatial LRS layers containing SDO_GEOMETRY
objects are not recognized as feature classes unless they are created with
    the sdetable -o create_view command.
Here is typical SQL for the view creation:
create or replace view trims_v_traffic as select a.geometry,
    b.nbr_tenn_cnty, b.nbr_rte, b.spcl_cse, b.cnty_seq, b.tr_beg_log_mle,
    b.tr_end_log_mle, b.yr_trfc, b.aadt, b.pct_peak_hr, b.dhv_pct, b.drct_distr,
    b.vhcl_pass_pickups, b.vhcl_su_trk, b.vhcl_mu_trk, b.actl_cnt, b.updt_by,
    b.updt_on, b.mslink, b.mapid, b.id_number, b.sta_nbr from
    gis.trims_traffic_geom a, gis.traffic b where a.mslink = b.mslink;
The table containing the SDO_GEOMETRY object is registered with SDE in the
    following manner:
    C:\arcgis\arcexe81\BIN>sdelayer -o register -l trims_traffic_geom,geometry
    -e slM -k SDO_GEOME
    TRY -s JJ0DN10 -i esri_sde -u gis -p spatial -c fid -C SDE
A feature class is successfully created for this layer and the data can be
    added successfully to a map.
However, there is no way of adding data to a map from a spatial database
view containing an SDO_GEOMETRY object which was created externally from
    SDE.
We are using Oracle Spatial 8.1.7 on NT 4.0. We are also using ArcGIS 8.1
    and ArcSDE 8.1.1.
    4.
SDE does not support spatial database views which reference snapshot
    objects.
I was unable to create a view using sdetable -o create_view which referenced
    a snapshot object.
The snapshot was created using the following sql syntax:
    CREATE SNAPSHOT SNP_TEST
    BUILD IMMEDIATE
    REFRESH FAST

    SELECT * FROM [email protected]
We are using ArcSDE 8.1.1 with Oracle 8.1.7 on NT 4.0.

  • ORA-1779 when updating a view

Hi and thanks in advance !
i am facing a critical situation.
i have two schema & both are same!
the problem which i am facing is during updating a view of one i am facing above error while the same DML is issuing againt that view in other schema and that works fine.
    what's the reason..
The major difference between two schema's is i hav different live and test database i migrate my access database to Oracle test database # 1.here i created a new user name deals . ok
i hav done same migration in my another database but a little difference here user deals is already available here and tables and views are also available i drop all the object but forget to purge recyclebin. now whenever i try to issue DML at this schema i am facing above error while the same tables same data and same view is available in above databae where my update statement executed properly. one more thing i like to add here i hav some unwanted trigger 'BIN$##$$%##$# bla bla bla' on different table. i haven't created that .
here is the view for your kind perusal
CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW QRYREUTER AS
    SELECT FXdeals.deal_no,
    cparty.name,
    cparty.city,
    FXdeals.brokbill,
    FXdeals.deal_date,
    FXdeals.mode_id
    FROM FXDeals
    JOIN cparty
    ON FXdeals.cpcode = cparty.cpcode
    WHERE ( ( (FXdeals.mode_id) = 3 ) )

but i have sample scenario in other schema which replica of this schema so why i haven't got this error there
one more interesting thing when i query select * from user_updateable_columns where table name ='ABC' in Schema # 1 it return i can modify some columns.
but when issue the data dictionary view in schema # 2, where i was facing ORA-1779 , select * from user_updateable_columns where table name ='ABC' in Schema # 2 it return i can not modify any columns.
Tables name are same in both schema.
    Data same in both schema.
    Constraint Same in both schema.
    Indexes same in both schema.
why facing error in one schema not in other.
one more interesting thing, i had faced questionable object error when importing DMP into schema # 2.

  • How to Create a BC4J messageChoice using an View?

I just started using UIX (today in fact) and would like to know how to use a View Object to populate a BC4J messageChoice.
I've created an form to update a table. One of the fields is cost center. I store the different cost centers in a seperate table. Then I store the id of the costCenter in the project table. I don't want to hard code the different centers into the application but pull them from the database (using a BC4J view). Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

That worked! But when I hit the update button the messageChoice fields will not update in the database. All the other fields do. No errors are displayed either, am I missing something?
Here is the code from the messageChoice...
    <bc4j:messageChoice prompt="Status"
    attrName="ProjectStatusId">
    <contents>
    <bc4j:optionList voName="ProjectStatusView"
    attrName="ProjectStatusId"
    textAttrName="Description" />
    </contents>
    </bc4j:messageChoice>

  • Roles not updating in SelectManyShuttle

    Hi,
We have three tables EMP, EMP_ROLES, ROLES. EMP_ROLES table is the bridge table and contains only the EMP_ID and its linked ROLE_ID's. On our page we have created two tabs through Show detail item, on one tab we can create new users and update existing ones. On the second tab we can search and select users through an ADF output text table and then come back to the first tab and edit them. On the first tab we have a form layout which displays the users details and a SelectManyShuttle to display the selected roles. Now, the application works fine when we open it initially, after searching for a user on the second tab we come back to the first tab and the users details and roles are updated.
However, once we have saved or deleted some roles for any user i.e. in the EMP_ROLES table, the role shuttle does not update when we navigate from the search tab to the modify tab. If we navigate through the users on the first tab the shuttle works fine, but only when we come back from the search page the shuttle does not get updated and keeps showing the roles of the previous user.
I am using JDev version 11.1.2.3.0.
Can anyone please provide me with any ideas on how to get this resolved?
Please let me know if any more information is required.
    Thanks in advance!
    Naman

    Hi KT,
Thanks for the response and apologies for the delayed reply.
I am new to ADF development, as a matter of fact this is the first time I'm working on it. Could you please explain a bit further how I can set the iterator refresh property or execute it programmatically?
Yes the shuttle component does show updated roles and works as required when opened in a new browser.

  • How do I update a view with a join

I have a module with database block based on a view with joins, so I am not able to perform insert, update & delete directly.
Therefore I created an unbound item that can be changed. The relevant database record is searched and updated.
So, with above work around, insert, update & delete is possible.
    This works just fine.
Now, the 'save icon' in the menu (diskette icon), does not get activated automatically when there are changes to be saved. This is because the view is not changed.
So, I enable the 'save icon' manually in the when-validate-item trigger. But now when I navigate to another record, the 'save icon' gets de-activated by QMS/headstart code. This is because the view is not changed.
So, I tried set_record_property (CHANGED_STATUS) to let the application
know there are changes to be saved.
But then, I get an error:
    * FRM-40654: Record has been updated by another user. Re-query block to see
    change.
What is the proper way to handle this problem?
    null

    Peter,
I think you've gone down the wrong track with your workaround.
You should base your form on the view and allow update and insert to the view just as if it was a table.
If you are using Oracle 8i, create an INSTEAD-OF trigger on the view in the database which redirects the DML to insert or update the appropriate table(s) instead of the view.
If you are pre Oracle 8i, in the form you can create on-insert, on-update, and on-delete triggers to redirect the DML to the appropriate table.
The only other tricky situation comes if you have items in your form that are server-derived (in the TAPI) of the table(s) in question. If so, you must explicitly code the form to retrieve these server-derived values. Also note that with a view, you cannot have a server derived primary key since there would be no way to retrieve it in the form. (Views don't have a rowid.) You must derive primary key columns in the form when the form is based on the view.

  • Updatable Materialized View and Master Table on same database

    Hi all,
My first question - Is it possible to have an Updatable Materialized View and the associated Master Table located on the same database?
    This is the requirement scenario:
    One unique database D exists.
A is a batch table. Only inserts are allowed on Table A.
M is an updatable materialized view on Table A (Master). Only updates are allowed on M (no insert or delete).
Requirement is to push updates/changes from M to A periodically and then get the new inserted records from A into M via a refresh.
Is this possible? What other approaches are applicable here?

    John,
My question is related to the implementation and setup of the environment as explained in the above example. How can I achieve this considering that I have created an updatable m-view?
If possible, how do I push changes made to an updatable m-view back to it's master table when/before I execute DBMS_MVIEW.REFRESH on the m-view? What is the procedure to do this if both table and mview exist on the same database? Do I need to create master groups, materialized view refresh groups, etc.?
One more thing.. Is there a way to retain changes to the m-view during refresh? In this case, only newly inserted/updated records in the associated table would get inserted into m-view. Whereas changes made to m-view records would stay as-is.
Hope my question is directed well. Thanks for your help.

  • Scheduling updatable materialized view

    Hi everybody,
As you may know I have a solution in which I have 5 sites .One master site with 4 updatable materialized view sites.
I want to know that is it correct if I dont set up schedule push to run periodically and set it up to do continuous push ?
I want in at least 2 minutes all sites become update and I have to mention that at first I tried multimaster but our client doesn't want that because they want if one special site becomes unavailable they others can not transfer data to eachother.
I appreciate your help in advance.

Your requirements are a bit unclear...
    1) In general, if you are looking to have sites updated within a minute or two of the original transaction being committed, you are better off looking at something like Streams rather than using materialized views.
    2) Architecturally, when you set up multi-master replication (which it sounds like you are attempting to do here), you need to choose between synchronous and asynchronous replication. Synchronous replication means that a transaction cannot commit until it has been pushed to all the other nodes, which is great for latency but horrible for performance, scalability, and availability. Very, very few people really want synchronous replication. That leaves asynchronous replication, which would require you to schedule jobs to replicate changes. Some folks who think they want asnychronous replication really want another technology entirely (i.e. DataGuard, RAC, etc).
    3) Are you sure about the requirement "they want if one special site becomes unavailable they others can not transfer data to each other"? That says that if one site fails, they want all transactions everywhere to fail. That pretty much defeats the purpose of setting up multi-master replication. If the system is only available as long as every node is available, and you're going to incur the overhead of synchronous replication on every change, you would be far better served consolidating everything into a single data center and potentially using RAC to create a multi-node cluster to spread the work among nodes. There would be very little benefit to offset the complexity of configuring and maintaining a multi-master replication environment if you didn't want the nodes to be able to continue in the event that one of them failed.

  • Updatable materialized view- error with CREATE_SNAPSHOT_REPGROUP

I'm trying to create an updatable materialized view from the replication administrators account (REPADMIN). I use the assistant and in the third step (after creating the replication group and the materialized view), when the materialized view is going to be added to the group, I got this error:

    Hello,
These days I have had some problems with my forum-account and I haven't been able to connect and reply.
Regarding to your doubt, the name of refresh group was correct, and as I see, the problem can't be related to the refresh group.
While the problem with my account was resolved, I created two new databases (*) and the problem within the materialized view process is disappeared. I suppose that my first original databases were degraded, but I don't know where.
(*) of course, I could do that because I use Oracle in an academy institution, not for production, thank God
Anyway, for now I will give up here. Thanks for your help.

  • Issue updating the viewer version from V20 to V23

    Hello!
Our team is having an issue figuring out how to update our viewer version of our multi-issue iPad magazine. All of our issues so far have been on the Viewer Version 20, and are now wanting to use Viewer Version 23... except we can't figure out how to do it! We have the latest version of Folio Builder in InDesign CS5.5... so that can't be it? When going to create a new folio in the panel, our options are only 20, and 21... why isn't it showing 22 or 23? Is this a simple problem to fix? Have been searching the discussion boards to find an answer, but can't seem to find one.
    Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your replies guys, I had tried both your recommendations earlier but unfortunately it's not letting me select anything later than V21... so does this mean it would be an App Builder problem?
