Creating an Adobe Air Content Library
I'm exploring the possibily of using Adobe Air for e-learning modules on the iPad.
Has anyone had experience with creating an Adobe Air app that functions like iBooks, where it is possible to feed new content remotely?
Basically, it's like having an Adobe Air app that is a shell for other Adobe Air content within it.
madchine wrote:And I guess that article also at least answers my question about where to put the .air file.
It suggests extracting it into /opt/airapps/<appname>/, but I wonder whether there's an actual reason behind that, or if it's just a random path made up by whoever wrote that wiki article.
I've never encountered an AIR app before, but usually game packages on Arch Linux install all game files into /usr/share/<packagename>/, except for:
the launcher executable, which goes into /usr/bin/
the .desktop file, which goes into /usr/share/applications/
the icon, which goes into /usr/share/pixmaps/
(If any of these three - launcher, .desktop file and icon - are not provided by the upstream sources, the AUR package will usually create them manually.)

Can I import a view created in Adobe AIR into my Java Android App
Is it possible to create an Adobe AIR App that I can import into the Java App?
Essentially, at the moment I have an App with a Fragment that plays video through Flash. Since Flash is being deprecated on Android I need an alternative.
I was hoping that I could simply create a fragment in the AIR App and plug that straight into the Java App.
Unfortunately I know nothing about AIR. Hopefully someone could let me know if this is even possible.I've not used Adobe Muse, so I can't speak to its functionality too much. Theoretically you can import any site into CQ5, but it's not going to be a pleasant "click and go" kind of import. CQ5 is a content management system that has a lot more complexity (and therefore flexibility) in what you can do, where it looks like Muse just creates static websites. In terms of importing fonts/images/etc., CQ5 has the capability. Anything you can do with HTML/CSS/JS, you can do with CQ5.
Is this a one time thing? It seems like the workflow from Adobe Muse to CQ5 just wouldn't be worth the effort. What are you envisioning as a solution? -

How would I create a Barcode Generator in Adobe AIR
I have an app I've been creating in Adobe AIR and it requires the ability to generate barcodes for member cards. What would be the easiest way to go about this? Open Office can generate barcodes using an extension but I don't believe it would be possible to open it in AIR and create a list of barcodes. I'm looking for a way to do this using an open source technology if possible something that doesn't necessarily have to be installed if possible since I'd like this app to be completely self contained if possible.
Thanks
MartyYou could try this:
http://www.atalasoft.com/cs/blogs/loufranco/archive/2008/04/25/writing-code-39-barcodes-wi th-javascript.aspx
I will be implementing it into a membership program in an air app I'm writing. I'm partial to html/js, so this will be my stop-gap solution for now. Good luck! -
Adobe AIR Output using Unipane Template - Problem in Publishing
Hi,
I have created new Adobe AIR browser based help using the Unipane template. When I generate the output, I specify a folder path in the Start Page field and click Finish. I can see the output excatly I have prepared when I select the first topic in the same folder.
But the problem is when I copy the folder and paste in the new location and click the first topic, it shows the template only, my content is missing. Because of this I could not send my output to the client.
If any one please guide me What should I do? I have prepared an entire Help system but now I could not send it to client. Please guide me.
Regards,
Ar.RajIn another thread (now deleted) AR Raj has posted that he cannot locate the previous thread with the same problem.
I am adding AR Raj's post here as it relates to this thread.
I will look later to try to find the post but if anyone else remembers it, please add the link in this thread.
I have created a help system using the Unipane template of Adobe AIR feature and when I open the first topic of the help locally in my system, it displays with the skin I have selected when initially generated. But when I try to host the help in the Internet using IIS Mgr, the help open with the default skin 'Black Pearl' with a default message at the bottom 'Powered by Robohelp' eventhough I have used the skin 'Aqua Grey'. I have also replaced the message with my client name, still it opens with the same message. The probelem arise when I try to host the help system, but locally in my system it works fine.
Mr.Peter Grainge told me that this issue was raised already and it got answered. I have searched Adobe AIR forum for a day long, but I could not locate the answer.
If anyone can help me to solve this, I have to deliver it to the client who repeately ask me about the Help system.
Please anyone guide me to correct this.

Maximum file size for Adobe air for Androind and iOS compiled apps
Hi All
I am working on a project which has a few videos which I need to bundle into my mobile app for an Ipad app I am creating using Adobe Air for iOS. My question is simple is there a maximum file size limit on apps compiled using Adobe air for iOS? And if so what is it? Any help would be great.
regards MikeHi. Im not a 100% sure this is correct. I am able to make a large .IPA file (200+Mb) and it will go onto my iPad 1, but it does not work - Just quicts after a few secs. If I run the same IPA on my iPad 2 it works.
When I take out some of the assets so its a smalelr size then it does run on the iPad. -

Can Adobe Air apps be launched in Java? What I am trying to
do is to create some Adobe Air UI (like dialogs) and include that
into a Java Application?Yes, in the same way as any native app. You would have to
communicate through some kind of server/client arrangement such as
a socket. -
Printing from Adobe AIR using Reader/Acrobat.
I have a product created using Adobe AIR.
I have a portion where a pdf is loaded into a window, and
they print it. When we change what paper they are going to print on
(different dimensions), it does not take effect.
We have to load it in a native PDF application (Acrobat) and
change the settings, then print the piece off again.
This is horrible for efficiency.
Has anyone had this problem?
Help!
AndrewHi,
If your PDF has embedded javascript, your AIR application can
talk to this javascript function where you can call the Print()
method.
Take a look at
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/flex/quickstart/scripting_pdf.html
Make sure you set the location of HTML control to a HTML file
(which has the object tag pointing to a PDF) using file:/// url
scheme. I remember a bug where if you point to it using the app://
or you don't specify any scheme, scripting between PDF and AIR
won't work. -
Can This Be Done With Adobe Air?
Mourning,
I would like to create a desktop application with Adobe Air for the following purpose:
http://templatic.com/demos/realestate/?page=property_submit
That template requires its' users to post properties via that link.
Instead of going to the link to post a property is it possible to create an Adobe Air application that can have the same results?
Any ideas??You mean using data from the server? Flash, and Flex, run
client side, but
can pull data from a server - and make a graph. I don't know
Flex, but it
wouldn't be too hard in Flash. AS3 is better for outputting
as a JPEG, but
it can be done in AS2 as well.
There are many tutorials for loading data into Flash, just
Google things
like 'Flash XML' or 'Flash Database'. I'd also recommend
looking at AMFPHP
http://www.amfphp.org/) an
alternative to Flash remoting that makes calling
server-side functions, and passing data, a snap.
For image export, search on 'Flash image output' - here's one
to get you
going:

This is what comes up when I am trying to install Adobe AIR on my Mac OS 10.8.5 with Cricut Craft Room in the terminal.
Hi Chris,
I've been reading and trying everything! Ok so this is what I had on my Mac:
Bamboo
Core Essentials Painter 4
Cricut Craft room
* will be adding Adobe Photoshop Essentials 11 next month also.
When I tried install the Cricut Sync (to sync my Gypsy to the Mac) that's when it asked for Adobe AIR installation. I can see the AIR installer in my applications/utilities, but it will not let me run the program.
Here is the installer log:

Use Raphael Vector Graphics Library in Adobe AIR
Have you used the Raphael Vector Graphics Javascript Library in Adobe AIR? What problems, pitfalls and challenges have you encountered?
To the Adobe AIR Team: It would be tremendously helpful and will be much appreciated if you can create a sample Adobe AIR application using Raphael.
~OscarHi again jackson@mja.
I've given your scroll component a try just for some static texts, and I've found quite a few important bugs:
1. If the referenced sprite/movieclip is shorter than the scrolling area, it starts bouncing infinitely in a quite funny way,
which renders the component unusable. Sometimes it even happens when the content is not shorter.
2. If your component is used inside another sprite/movieclip which is added dynamically from code ("addChild(mySprite);"),
it doesn't work and stops with an error, because the EventListener for mouseDownHandler is being added to this.stage
in the constructor, but a dynamic movieclip doesn't have access to the stage while in the constructor step (unless it is
already in the stage added in the Flash IDE, such as in your FLA example). To fix this, I've added the following code
to the ScrollArea() constructor:
this.addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
this.addEventListener(Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE, close);
And then I've added the following listener functions:
private function init(event:Event):void {
this.removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init);
this.stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.mouseDownHandler);
private function close(event:Event):void {
this.stage.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.mouseDownHandler);
3. Also, the scrollbar is only correctly rendered if the scroll area is located at the up and left corner of the stage. To put text somewhere else, the component must be put inside a movieclip.
4. This is not really important, but I've found the following variables are never user and so I've removed these lines:
var xy:Point = this.localToGlobal(new Point(this.x, this.y));
var wh:Point = this.localToGlobal(new Point(this.width, this.height));
var sign:int = sign(obj[i]);
I hope this can help you improve your classes.
