Creating an e-mail account

I just updated my system from 9.1 to 10..3.5.. I also went with verizon DSL and I have an e-maiil account with them.
Previously I had an account wiith my local ISP but since I am not using them anymore I want to set up an e-mail account and have all the mail I currently have with them forwarded to my new account and they said they would.
1. How do I set up an email account on mac 10.3.5? I have tried on my own but it doesn't seem to work for me
ANY assistance would be appreciated
Thanks
John

This particular forum is for Tiger's Mail & Address Book applications. To avoid confusion on everyone's part, if you are using older OS & app versions, you should post in the forums for them, such as the Discussions > Mac OS X v10.3 & earlier > Mail & Address Book one.
It would also help if you could be more specific. "It doesn't seem to work for me" says nothing about what you have tried or the problems you have encountered. Are you trying to use Apple's Mail application or something else? What step are you having problems with?

  • How do I create a POP mail account on ios 5

When I try to create a new mail account it always turns out to be an IMAP email account which I don't have access to such an account. My account is POP3 and I don't seem to be able to ever specify that on my iPhone 4 using ios 5. Help?

You should not need to enter anything. the iCloud service is one of the  preconfigured options.
Just choose the iCloud type from the Add new Mail screen, and enter your details in the next screen.
If you don't have the iCloud option, but instead have the mobileMe option then you will need to update your iOS.

  • How to create a new Mail account for Google Enterprise Gmail

I have just set up Google Enterprise Business Apps, including Gmail.  Works just fine with my domain from iPhone and from Google Web App.
I have set up a new Mac Mail account and can receive email addressed to my my domain and not gmail.com just fine but when I send mail the FROM: field has [email protected] instead of mydomain name.
I've tried getting help from Google but it's a slow, somewhat trying process.

I checked and the return address (from:) is already correctly set up.
The Google Enterprise Gmail works just fine with my iPhone and from the Google web app.  PC with Outlook fine too.  I suspect that there must be something about the MAC Mail account setup.
I just don't know where to look...
If that is your issue then
    In Mac Mail>>Preferences>Accounts>>Account Information
You can add  "from" options by adding them to email address line, seperate by comma.
This will give you a "drop-down" menu in composing new mail or replying.

  • Creating additional E-Mail accounts

On the iPad 2, how do I add additional e-mail folders to an account.  The account only shows and Inbox and Trash folders.  Sync does not pick up my other Outlook folders.

The iTunes sync process does not include email account mailboxes and messages.
Not possible to create additional mailboxes with the iPad's Mail app, but with an IMAP account all server stored mailboxes will be available automatically. You can create additional server stored mailboxes for an IMAP account with the email client used on your computer for accessing the account or via webmail access for the account using a browser. All server stored mailboxes with an IMAP account will be available automatically when accessing the account with the iPad's Mail app along with all server stored mailboxes kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account.
None of this is available with a POP account.

  • Can't create a new mail account

    Hi everybody,
My internet provider changed it's name from direcway.com to hughes.net, so that ment that I had to change my email account. I deleted the old direcway.com address, now I'm trying to make a new hughes.net account. I click on mail and the new accounts window opens and I start the process. After inputting the incoming mail server info and password, then click continue my computer checks the connection to POP server mail.hughes.net, then checks the login for my username. And that's as far as it goes, and the login to POP server mail.hughes.net failed. One other thing, I don't have a POP server, it's a POP3 server, and even though I've tried I'm not sure where to input that. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Kauf,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
Hopefully these other responses will assist you in completing the new account setup. However, let me also point out that you can proceed in the setup, even though connection fails, and sometimes this is necessary to later gain access to use a different Port than the default. But, I am sure Mail will default to Port 110 for POP, and this would only be useful if the server should be approached on a different Port, and you would edit this in the Mail Preferences/Accounts/Advanced.
Probably not needed, but just clarifying.

  • The system allowed me to create a BT Mail account

Which is something it's been refusing to do since my activation date (11-4-14).
The account is up and running and I can send and receive mail from my Mac's OSX Mail client
    That's good!
It isn't the same account as my BTid, obviously. Will that cause problems at all?
    Thanks.

No it should not cause you any problems.

  • Can't create a pop3 mail account

i tried search for this topic but there seemed to be no answers.  Hard to believe no one has had this issue.  Just got rid of iPhone and bought a Curve 8310 to last me 3 months when I can tell AT&D to shove their service where the sun don't shine!  Anyway, when I try to set up a pop3 account my phone only allows me to set up a gmail or yahoo account.  Am I missing something?  I'm guessing it shouldn't be this hard to set up but when your technology challenged like me, even simple events are of gargantuan proportions!  Thanking you in advance!

In lieu of that, please explain exactly how it only allows those two to be configured. An error message when you try to configure others? Some screen that tells you that others are not allowed? What, exactly do you do and what, exactly, happens when you try? Details please, since we cannot see your BB screen.

  • Creating a new mail account on iphone...

Could anybody help me with how I set my Hotmail E-mail address as the default for iPhone? I don't use G-mail, Yahoo mail, .mac, or AOL and I have no idea how to set it up so my mail comes to my phone through Hotmail.

Hotmail only allows other apps/devices to hook into via POP IF you pay for the premium service. Else, Hotmail is webbased only.

  • How do I stop Thunderbird from creating additional folders when I add a new mail account?

I've been using Thunderbird for about 8 years now, migrating the configuration from version to version. Currently I have two accounts it picks up email from. I want to add a third account but everytime I do this, it creates a bunch of new folders with the name of the account in my folder tree. This is undesirable, mainly because it looks terrible and it's also dodging the default filtering I have set up globally for received messages.
How do I create a new mail account without it making new folders and just using the local folders like the other accounts already do?
I do not use Thunderbird's internal spam filtering, I use popfile and use message filters to sort the emails by headers Popfile adds to my messages. I do not understand why it won't let me make a new account like the other accounts without making a special folder for the new account. Please help?

Item 1. Global inbox only works with POP mail accounts.
Tools menu > account settings >server Settings > advanced and select use global inbox to turn it on. Note the folder will disappear, so move the mail you want from them before you change the settings.
Item 2. IMAP accounts must have their own folders. The View menu > folder > unified view was designed to overcome that as much as possible,

  • Mail V3.1 can not create a new Cablevision Optimum Online mail account

Apple Technical support asked me to report this on this forum.
I have OS X 10.5.1 with Mail 3.1. My ISP is Cablevision Optimum Online, which uses mail.optonline.net as their POP and SMTP servers.
Pre-existing mail accounts, created under 10.4.x (Tiger) work perfectly. I am unable to create a new mail account with this version of the mail program. Mail's Add Account dialog (wizard) hangs as soon as it tries to connect to the mail.optonline.com server. After a long time trying it just says it can not connect to the server. This happens if I choose the new (and default) "Automatically set up account" option or not. It happens on multiple Leopard systems. In other words, when the mail account setup wizard checks for connectivity to the mail.optonline.net POP server, it fails, even though the mail program has no problem interacting with that same server with accounts set up under a previous version.
We brought a MacBook to the Apple store, and the tech. at the genius bar could not get it to work. He said call the ISP. We did that, spent hours with the ISP tech who told me many people are complaining about this. I suspected it was a problem with the way Mail 3.1 was doing its initial connectivity check. Perhaps using an incompatible port (SSL setting perhaps).
After a good nights sleep, I figured out a work-around. I created a dummy GMail account, after it was created I modified it to have my Optonline account specifications, turned off SSL and it worked.
After I had circumvented this problem, someone else that had the same problem found a different resolution. We both also had .mac accounts defind. When they deleted their .Mac account from the mail program, they were able to create a new Optonline.net account. .Mac uses SSL.... interesting.
Thus, it seems that if you have a .Mac account with Mail 3.1 you can not create an Optonline.net account. A bug that I hope Apple fixes quickly.

iLounge had some good info on this topic. The KEY INFO in the post was that after you have gotten the account set up you need to turn off your WiFi router (if you have one) to reset it.
    http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=221752
Here are the details on how Optonline says you set up an account:
    Name: type your name here
    Address: [email protected]
Description: whatever you want to put here
    Incoming Mail Server
    Host Name: mail.optonline.net
User Name: xxxxxxxxxx (don't add "@optonline.net" here, but put what goes before it)
    Password: your password here
    Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
    Host Name: mail.optonline.net
User Name: xxxxxxxxxx (don't add "@optonline.net" here, but put what goes before it)
    Password: your password here
My other settings under the "Advanced" tab look like this...
    Deleted Messages
    Remove: Never
    Incoming Settings:
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: Password
    Delete from Server: Never
    Server Port: 110
    Outgoing Settings:
    Use SSL: OFF
    Authentication: Password
    Delete from Server: Never
    Server Port: 587

This person adds "Oh, one more thing... after you save your account settings, you may need to turn off WIFI, then "power off"... then "power on" turn WIFI back on and try to get mail again after it connects."
    ============
Based on the information I read here and on iLounge I was able to get Optonline email working.
    1) Deleted my Dot Mac mail accounts in Apple Mail
    2) Created an Optonline account based on the details above from Optonline in Apple Mail
    3) Unplugged my Airport Extreme Base Station, waited 20 seconds, plugged it back in.
    4) I was then able to receive mail but not send on the Optonline SMTP server
    5) So...I then went back and checked the details on the Optonline account in Apple Mail. Not sure why but the SSL/authentication selections were changed. So I set them correctly based on the information above and saved. That worked and I was able to send email.
As you are having trouble with Apple Mail and Optonline (why else would you be reading this?) let me also mention that Optonline blocks Port 25 for outbound email so if you have non-Optimum Online email accounts and want to send email on that ISP's server you will not be able to do that unless (a) you pay Cablevision more for a business or boost account (b) use webmail (c) your ISP is willing to provide you with an alternative email port other than 25.
Here is the page from their site on this topic
    ort 25 and Optimum Online
    Answer
All e-mail sent via the Internet is routed through Port 25, the channel used for communication between an e-mail client and an e-mail server. Activation of Port 25 is currently available with Optimum Online® Boost or Optimum Online for Business. Please continue reading for more information, including activation instructions.
    Port 25 Filtering/Blocking
To help control the amount of spam that originates from the Optimum Online network, Optimum Online filters outbound Port 25 e-mail (SMTP) traffic for all standard Optimum Online customers. This filtering is a common spam control measure used by Internet Service Providers. It not only prevents spam sent intentionally, but also thwarts computer viruses that let spammers connect to an unsuspecting customer's infected computer and send spam.
This filtering is transparent to the vast majority of our users. However, if you access a non-Optimum Online e-mail service with an e-mail client application (like Outlook Express), or run your own mail server, you may not be able to send and/or receive e-mail.
    Port 25 Availability
If you require Port 25 to be active, Optimum Online offers these options:
Subscribe to Optimum Online Boost. Click here for more information.
Businesses can subscribe to Optimum Online for Business or Optimum Online Boost for Business.
    Activating Port 25
If you subscribe to Optimum Online Boost, and would like to utilize Port 25, you'll need to activate it. Simply follow these steps:
Log into optimum.net using your Optimum ID and Password.
    Click on Optimum Services.
Click Manage from within the Advanced Config section.
Set Port 25 to On and click Submit. Your modem will be rebooted automatically. Once it starts up, Port 25 will be active.
Optimum Online for Business customers who do not subscribe to Optimum Online Boost can call Technical Support at 1-866-575-8000 to have Port 25 activated.
Workarounds for Standard Optimum Online Customers
If Port 25 filtering is affecting your ability to send or receive non-Optimum Online e-mail, here are some options you may choose to pursue:
Contact your e-mail service provider to see if they support alternate connection methods such as VPN or SMTPS.
If available, use your e-mail service provider's WebMail.

  • Mail account created automatically cannot be deleted

In our office we are testing a server running Snow Leopard Server that has some test user accounts on it. When I connected my laptop this morning to the network a message mentioned that the server was there and asked me if I wanted to configure mail, ical etc to use the server. I did and connected it to my test user account on the server.
It created a new mail account in Mail on my laptop for that servers user. which is what I wanted.
In Mail I tried to delete this mail account and rather than deleting it just becomes greyed out and is not removable from Mail.
How do I remove this account?

I had the same problem yesterday.
I eventually discovered that you have to remove the Network Account Server in your account details.
    So:
    Systems Preferences
    Login Options
    Edit on Network Account Server
Click on the Account and then the - button
    Confirm and then Done.
Now you should be able to delete the mail account.

  • How do I set up a new mail account on my iMac?

    Hello everyone,
I think I used to have a Mail account however I could not remember the password when I tried to turn it on. I decided to delete the account completely and to start again. How do I set up a new mail account with a new email address and a new password??
I can see how you create a new mail account but it then asks for an email and password so that doesn't help. I really didn't think it would be a hassle!
    Thanks,
    W

You first need to set up a new User Name and Password with your Internet Service Provider (ISP); that is, whoever provides you with Internet access, such as Comcast, AT&T, etc in the US.  Alternately you can go on the Internet and set up a new email Account with a new User Name and Password with a public company such as Google's "Gmail" or Microsoft's "Hotmail".  Once you have set up your new Account with them, THEN you enter that information into Apple's "Mail" for it to send and receive emails for your new outside Account.
    Hope this helps

  • Can't create an E-mail acct after mail list by same name has been deleted.

I deleted a mailing list through delegated administrator because the user wants it created as an E-mail account instead. After deleting the list through the delegated administrator interface (and after waiting 1.5 hours!) I still cannot create the E-mail account. It says the name is already in use. Is there a way to purge the mailing list name from the system so I can create this E-mail account right away?

    to purge the user
    use command line utility
    ./imadmin user purge
( default purge is 10 days, specify -g 0 if required imeediately)
