Creating an Import Document iView

Hi, I´m trying to create an iview for batch document upload to the portal. At the moment, I've only been able to upload documents from a source directory in the server, given an xml file uploaded from the client, which indicates the location of these files.
I need help doing one of these two things:
1. creating an upload percentage status bar
or 2. accesing the client's directory to upload and insert the file into the repository one by one.
Can anyone help?
(by the way, I'm trying to to exactly what the portal epa import iview does, but with documents, so i know it's possible, i just don't know how)

Hi Vargas,
still migrating SharePoint?!?
> accesing the client's directory to upload and insert
> the file into the repository one by one.
"one by one" means, the client chooses a file, uploads this file (on the server side, it's then put into KM), then chooses the next etc pp?!
In this case, just use a HTMLB FileUpload control, see http://devnetmedia.sap.com/html/submitted_docs/htmlbManuals/fileupload_dev.html for details (if using HTMLB).
You could use a ProgressIndicator for the status bar, see http://devnetmedia.sap.com/html/submitted_docs/htmlbManuals/progressindicator_dev.html ,  but that would be quite tricky to achieve regular updates while uploading the file (you would need threading, URL isolated progress iView, and some good experience...). See for example ProgressIndicator... for some initial discussion. Remark: Valeries remark that threading isn't recommended in Web/J2EE development is completely untrue, for such a disucssion see ProgressIndicator...
If using WebDynpro, there are similar UI elements.
Hope it helps

  • KM document iview transport & the document transport in KM.

    We are EP 7.0 SP 18.
    I have created a KM document iview in dev system and set the Path to document porperty of the document iview to guid of a document in KM.
    Transported both the iview and KM content to QA system,  epa and kmc files.
    The iview fails to load. After, intial debugging. I found that the GUID is changed for the KM document after transport. Is it normal? In that case how are the KM document iviews going to work.
    PLease, let me know the fix.

    Hi Raj1234,
    See i m telling you the exact phase of transport how you can do but some part is missing from your end...
    System Admin->Transport->Export-> Portal COntent>Click on respective folder>Make the transport package>
    When the package is made --> than again Add on folder level and Add All objects to transport package or you can define single -2  AFter that
    Mandatory :
    In Right Property Editor - Resolve Refrence is "Yes" mode
    second Transport mode is in "data_and _acl"
    Select all added item (ivews package) and click on export->Start Export>Download the file. Same as when you uploaded your fle in another server in Importing the file.
    This will helpful to you and know which part you are missing.

  • Unable to open a KM document iView

    Hi Experts,
    I've uploaded an xls file in one of the folders in the KM content. I've created a KM document iView in order to access the uploaded  xls file. Now when I click on this iView in the portal I get a dialg box wherein it asks me to Open, Save or Cancel the file. I am able to save the file succesfully in my lcal desktop but if I choose the option to open the file directly without saving it, the file does not open up and it displays another dialog box to Save or Cancel the file.
    I've also uploaded a pdf file in the same folder in the KM and have created a KM document iView to access it and I am able to open it properly without any problem.
    The problem is coming only with the xls file.
    I am able to open the xls file directly from the KM folder. But I am not able to open it as a KM iview.
    I've checked the "Path to Document" property and it is absolutely fine. The file extension is also correct and the file is not corrupted.
    Could any of you please help me in fixing this problem.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

    Hi there,
    Actually the name of the xls file is "US_Material_Group_GL_Account_Mapp" and the size of the file is 361 KB.
    Now the "Path to document" as defined in the KM Document iView is  "/etc/<OuterFolderName>/Help Files/US_Material_Group_GL_Account_Mapp.xls".
    Now, I don't think that the name of the xls file or even the path defined in the "Path to Document" property exceeds 217 characters.
    Could you please have a look at the file specifications once as provided and suggest something?
    At present I am using IE version 6.0 and I tried it out in higher IE versions also but it did not work out.
    Or does it have any association with the MS office files and I did not face any problem with pdf file.
    Also, is there any other kind of iView that can be created for an xls file which is kept in the KM folder?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

  • KM document iview with HTML content not showing pictures

    Hello Experts,
    I am currently working on integrating a HTML page into the portal. As it is just a static page the decision was made to implement it via KM. Now when I create a "KM documents iView (w/o filter)" and point the path to the HTML file in the KM it is displaying the file, but not the images, which are stored in a folder structure below.
    But when previewing the HTML file directly it shows up just fine.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jan

    Hi,
    How you checked directly means?  Are you checking from desktop or from the KM content folder.
    if it is displaying properly in the KM content then automatically it should display properly in the KM document iview.
    In the html file, please use only the relative path of the images that are stored in the KM content.
    say  starting from /irj.........
    Hope it help you.

  • Translation of KM Document iView

    Hello Experts,
    I have created a KM Document iView that is opening a HTML page. Is it possible to create a translation for this iView (e.g. the content of the HTML file). Or does anyone know how to handle this otherwise.
    Any input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi,
    I've written an article for multi language support in km.
    You can find it under https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/207ba610-08ac-2b10-1787-fc477da4b5bf

  • Excel on KM Document iView.

    Hi,
    I created a "KM Document iView" and specified the path to a MS-Excel file. I preview the iView and the spreadsheet displays fine.
    I add this iView to a Role and assign this role to a user. When user selects the tab and menu item to display the Spreadsheet, it displays the following error.
    The alert message reads as "C:\Documents and Settings\knatarajan\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\WHYVOH2B\pcd!3aportal_content!2fcom.pilgrimspride.bi.portal.PP_Portal_Group!2fcom.pilgrimspride.bi.portal.km.fld_KM_Reports!2fcom.pilgrimspride.bi.portal.km[1].xls could not be found. Please check the spelling....." etc.
    Pl. let me know if any one faced this/or a similar issue.
    I could also send screen shots if need be.
    To start with I can't understand why it looks for this location for the file instead of retrieving it from the server.
    Best Regards,
    Kumar

    Thanks for your reply Jarek.
    Is there a way to force the excel to display in a read only mode?
    I see that preview also works with KM Document iView when the path is set to <b>/guid/8084ab95-97cc-2810-bdb0-d1497b82b2be</b> instead of <b>/PPC/External/ToRicos.xls</b>. But again the access from within the role in runtime errors out.
    com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Cannot assign a java.lang.String object of length 82 to host variable 1 which has JDBC type VARCHAR(64).
    Is there any other resolution besides using a url iView?

    Kumar

  • Help with KM Document IView pointing to Excel Spreadsheet

    Hi, I created a KM Document IView that points to an Excel Spreadsheet that is stored in a KM Folder.  When I execute the IView it prompts me to save the "Unknown File Type" instead of just opening it up for me.
    What do I have to do to get this to open up directly in the IView?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Check if the excel extension is in uppercase, if so then change it to lowercase.
    Check Mime Handler Service , where you can set property to have both uppercase and lowercase:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/07/b6b0d706fb44caab64750a0bdaba09/frameset.htm
    If this is not your problem, then check if your mime type is properly registered here:

  • Error on KM Document iView path

    Hi Experts,
    I just created a KM Document iView to contain a document stored in KM. The path for my document in KM is:
    /root/documents/Folder/doc
    When clicking on the Preview button on the iView I keep getting and 404 error.
    Does anyone have a suggestion about this error?
    Thanks in advance,
    Neil

    in the path to document property
    instead of using the path
    /root/documents/Folder/doc(wrong)
    use below path
    /documents/Folder/doc(correct)
    This will solve your problem
    also check that you have atelast read permission to that document in KM content.

  • Image missing in  Km document iview

    Hi all,
             we are trying to create a km document iview by uploading a word document under Km Content and publishing it.giving the Path to document as
    /WebEditing_System/HTML/published/Articles/Corporate/Home/Communication%20Contacts/HR%20Share%20Services_MainPage_3.doc.html
    .That km Document contains some images.after publishing we are able to see the text but the images are missing (under My work area)?can anybody tell the reason?
    (One more thing to clarify
    We have tried to publish this under Corporate-->Home under detailed navigation section there the images are appearing.)

    Not possible in KM Document iView.
    Suggest using WebDAV or Web Folders. KM Document iView is display/download only.

  • KM Document iView - index.html and main.css not properly displayed

        font-color: #000000
        margin-bottom:3px;
    When going to Content Administration -> KM Content -> Documents and clicking the index.html file, the css file is taken into account, when i.e hovering over the IMPAX hyperlink, the path is http://<host>:<port>/irj/go/km/docs/documents/impax.html and the impax.html page is displayed when clicked.
    However, when creating a KM Document iView (with or without content filter) pointing to /documents/index.html and displaying the iView, the style sheet is ignored, and the same hyperlink as above now refers to http://<host>:<port>/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/impax.html, which is incorrect.
    -> How can this behaviour be explained?
    -> When creating an URL iView pointing to /irj/go/km/docs/Agfa_Knowledgebase/index.html , everything works as expected.
    Thanks for the help -

    Hi,
    You should correct the path to your css file in your index.html:
    href="/irj/go/km/docs/documents/main.css"

  • KM document iView issue (Java Script) :(

    Hi Developers,
    I have following java script to call a ICWC iView .
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>JavaScript Window Close Example </title>
    </head>
    <SCRIPT language="JavaScript1.2">
    my_window = window ;
    function closepopup()
    if (my_window != window)
               if(false == my_window.closed)
                    alert('Window already Open!');
                              else
    my_window = window.open("http://rp1118.india.rapidigm.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fVeena!2fKMDOCiview?sap-config-mode=true","mywindow","status=1,width=350,height=150");
    else
    my_window = window.open("http://rp1118.india.rapidigm.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fVeena!2fKMDOCiview?sap-config-mode=true","mywindow","status=1,width=350,height=150");
    my_window = window2 ;
    </SCRIPT>
    <body>
    <P>
    <A href="javascript: closepopup()">Open BSP</A>
    </P>
    </body>
    </html>
    I have created a KM document iView to call this HTML page in portal and assigned that iView to a role .
    Now the problem is when I click the iView for second time (when one ICWC window is already open) , it reloads the java script and it initializes the value of parameters .
    So next time when I click on the link  'Open BSP' it again opens a new ICWC window
    instead of the warning message 'Window already Open!' .
    Is there any way to acive this .
    Thanks & Regards,
    Amit Kade

    Hi Martin ,
    Thank you very much for your help , I have gone through the document for Client Data Bag API , but as you told I am not be able to clear the key value on close of child window .
    Now I have thought of a different approach and written  the following code :
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>JavaScript Window Close Example </title>
    </head>
    <script language="JavaScript">
      window.onbeforeunload = confirmExit;
      function confirmExit()
         if(false == my_window.closed && my_window != window)
        return "You have attempted to leave this page.  Please DO NOT click on the OPEN BSP tab again before closing the active BSP window as this will open new BSP window.  Are you sure you want to exit this page?";
    </script>
    <SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
    my_window = window ;
    function closepopup()
    if (my_window != window)
               if(false == my_window.closed)
                    alert('Window already Open!');
                              else
    my_window = window.open("http://rp1118.india.rapidigm.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fVeena!2fKMDOCiview?sap-config-mode=true","mywindow","status=1,width=350,height=150");
    my_window.focus();
    my_window = window2 ;
    else
    my_window = window.open("http://rp1118.india.rapidigm.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fVeena!2fKMDOCiview?sap-config-mode=true","mywindow","status=1,width=350,height=150");
    my_window.focus();
    my_window = window2 ;
    </SCRIPT>
    <body>
    <P>
    <input type = "button" onclick="javascript: closepopup()" value="Open BSP Page"></button>
    </P>
    </body>
    </html>
    Here on <b>onbeforeunload</b> event I am giving an warning message to user giving them two options , OK CANCLE .
    This is working fine but as I click on CANCLE tab the portal doesn't load the KM document iView . Instead it just says 'loading' forever.
    Am I missing something in this code . Can you please help.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • KM Document iView for displaying PDF file.

    Hi all,
    I have uploaded one pdf file (Estimate.pdf) to KM in folder abc. I want to create an iView to display that pdf file in portal. For which I have created a KM Document iView and in "Path to Document" property I have assigned the document path like: /documents/abc/Estimate.pdf
    Now when try to see preview, instead of opening my pdf file, it shows only one image on top with text mySAP.com.
    I have also tried to create a link to my document and given the link path but I got the same result.
    Can anyone tell me why is this happening? Is there any other property to be set?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

    Vikranth,
    Check for the path again carefully. I guess you are following the right approach, but instead of previewing it, try assigning it to a user and check what happens.
    Refer to this [article|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0235c19-9493-2b10-64a5-8487b23a7a41]for creation of iviews.

  • KM Document iView and User Permissions

    Hi all,
    I have created a KM Document iView to display a document (stored within KM) to my users. However, it is happening something I believe is not correct.
    When I set only READ permission for this folder, the KM Document iView is not able to display the document for my users. On the other hand, when I change the permission to, at least, READ/WRITE, the iView works fine.
    Is it really the behaviour of that iView? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    Fernando Urzedo

    Fernando,
    Read permissions should allow users to see the content. Please check this link on Assigning Permissions to Folders.
