Creating automatically "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" files (Excel files)

I have the necessity of create automatically an excel file with a query to a multidimensional model (ROLAP Cube). It exists any API for a programation language that makes easy this process of creation?
How "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" saves the metadata in the excel file, for example, the information about the database (host name, database name), dimensions and measures selected by the user when a query is made with the "Query Builder"?
It is possible to share any information about this subject?
Thanks!!!
Rui Torres

I exported to xml an excel file with a query, that was produced by the “Query Builder”, and it is true that the metadata that contains the information about the database, dimensions and measures selected, is specified in xml and is stored in hidden sheets.
My problem is not to create an excel file (create sheets, write in the cells,...) because it exists some apis that do this kind of operations.
My difficulty, is to produce the xml metadata, that is defined by Oracle, and contains the information that is used by "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" to put the data in the cells of an excel sheet.
What I want to know is, for example, if exists any kind of function that receives the name of the host, the name of the database, the owner of the cube, the cube name and all the options that we can choose in the “Query Builder” (measures and dimensions that we want, the disposition of the dimensions - layout), and return a String with the Oracle’s xml metadata.
With this xml metadata that is returned, I am prepared to create an excel file, that have the functionality of to connect to a database, and get the data that is stored in it.
Thanks!!!

  • "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" – bug on the page items

I detected that "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" has a bug on the page items. It occurs when I have more than one page item. What happens is that all the page items (except the first), don’t permit to select other values. This is, I can click in the ComboBox, I can see the values that the ComboBox contains and I can select a value of the ComboBox. When I select other value, the add-in executes the query (it refreshes the sheet), but the value of the combo is not modified, and the values of the facts aren’t also modified. (The query that is done is the same)
But if I change the layout, and put the page item in the first position, the value of the ComboBox is modified and a new query is executed.
I am using only ROLAP cubes.
The version of the database is 10.1.0.4.0.
I did an upgrade from 10.1.0.2.0 to 10.1.0.4.0.
The version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In” is:
    Release 1 version 10.1.2.0.0 - (build 10.1.2.0.36)
When is done a new version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In”, without this bug?
    Regards,
    Rui Torres

The metadata is ok according to “Oracle Enterprise Manager Website”.
The version of Excel that I use is:
    Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.5612.5606).
But is very stranger that the first page item works perfectly and the others have a bad behaviour, isn’t it?

The error message is written in Portuguese. I don't understand why the message is in Portuguese, if the WindowsXp and the MsExcel 2003 are English versions.
    What is the problem??

Note, if you installed the previous version from OTN, you can just install the new version in the same directory, and your connections and preferences will be preserved.

  • Writting to an specific spreadsheet of an existing excel file.

I need to write a labview 2-D array of real numbers to an specifc spreadsheet of an existing excel file (which has many sheets and is located in my hard disk).
Some years ago a member forum wrote a nice and small code for writting to excel.  The code is http://forums.ni.com/ni/attachments/ni/6170/107/1/Excel.vi and was posted here http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=6170&thread.id=105
I found that it would be useful after some modifications. How to modify it in order to get what I need?  (Obs.: My LabVIEW version is 8.0)

There is a function to do that in the Excel specific VIs palette of the Report Generation Toolkit. Of course you need to have the toolkit installed. You can also use the invoke and property nodes on the Excel object but you have to find out what are the appropriate methods to use and propriety to set (you should find the information in an Excel programming manual. in VBA it is something like worksheet("Sheet2").Select). You can use the Workbook OPEN method to open the Excel workbook saved on you hard disk (connect your file path to the Filename input of the invoke node).

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in can only be in one Excel instance only?

    Hi everyone
Is it true that we can have the add-in in one Excel instance only?
(when I started my 2nd Excel, the OracleBI menu does not show up)
    djoni

    Hi
Yes, I'm afraid that is true. Sorry about that. Please don't shoot the messenger. If you don't like this approach taken by Oracle you need to raise this as a service request and ask if this can be added as an enhancement request.
Before you do you might want to fully check out this posting: http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2006/09/spreadsheet-add-in-refreshing-multiple.html
You might also want to pose this question to the owner of that blog. They are good guys (yes, I know them) and will give you an answer if one is available.

  • To add data in excel file

I have an excel file with some cells blank. I want to add data in these cells and save this excel file with a different name. How can I do these by repoer generation toolkit for microsoft office.I am using Labview 2011.
    Please give suggestions.
    Thank you in advance....................

There are two parts to this problem -- How do you find blank cells in an Excel WorkSheet and fill them with predetermined values, and once you know how to do that, how do you implement this using LabVIEW instead of doing it directly in Excel.
Before worrying about the second part (which, while not so difficult, is not something for a LabVIEW "beginner"), think about how to handle the first part, say, in Excel, itself.  Write down an algorithm, taking into account (a) how to determine which cells to test, (b) what test to make (or even if you want to make a test), and (c) how to determine what to put into the cell.
Come back when you've done at least this much (and spell out the algorithm).

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in Not Working With ROLAP TIME Dimension

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure this bizarre behavior for a while now.
I have created a TIME dimension (based on a relational table) using OEM and defined the metadata etc. My hierarchy has 4 levels: day->month->quarter->year. I have end_date and time_span attributes defined for each level. I have defined a simple cube dimensioned by TIME and having only 1 numeric measure.
When I open BI Spreadsheet Add-in, I can see my cube measure and the dimension in the list of available entities. I add them to the list of selected entities and hit 'next'. On the next screen I arrange them to my liking and hit 'next' again. This is where the problem occurs. Or rather where nothing occurs. The add-in just gets stuck at this point and no matter what I do or click, it won't advance to the next step.
If I change the dimension type from time to normal, then everything works as expected (although, I cannot do time-series analysis).
If I create and enable an analytic workspace and use it in the add-in, then everything works as expected as well.
Any ideas what's wrong here? I kind of suspect the end_date and time_span attributes are involved somehow...
    Thanks!
    Dobo

The expected format for a relational time table would be something like the following:
    CREATE TABLE "BIBDEMO"."BIBDEMO_TIME"
    ("TIME_STD_MONTH" VARCHAR2(30),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_LLABEL" VARCHAR2(60),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_SLABEL" VARCHAR2(30),

  • Spreadsheet app that opens Excel files?

I should have asked this in my last post about word processors in OS X. If I'm just a casual user who rarely needs to open Excel files (e.g. friends email me some spreadsheet about who knows what), should I just plan on using NeoOffice (OpenOffice), or is there some other option out there if I don't want to buy MS Office? It seems that iWork doesn't even come with a spreadsheet app. However, even if it did, I'm wondering if there'd be another alternative sufficient for a casual user like myself.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

NeoOffice handles multiple sheets and has loaded my Excel files with no problems. I have not used NeoOffice extensively as I downloaded it to become familiar with what it can do, so I have not come up against its limitations yet. NeoOffice is a large program (338 mb on my external hard disk) which contains all the modules in one (rather than separate programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint), so it takes a while to initially open but once open it switches between the modules with little delay.

  • How can I add/retrieve Word/Excell files to iCloud?

I have an iCloud Account that I haven't used in the past. How can I add/delete/retrieve files such as Word & Excel files?

To save arbitrary document types in iCloud on MacOS X 10.9.5 have a look at Winston Churchill's User Tip:
See this link:  Using iCloud to sync multiple document types.
This will work between Macs, but not for mobile devices.

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in disappears from Excel?

I left to work on something else (Word, web browsing, emailing), for 30mins or so, when I returned to my Excel the add-in disappeared. Right-clicking on any cell didn't give me the add-in either.
This has happened to me a few times.
    Has anyone got this experience?
    djoni

    Hi Djoni
Does Oracle people monitor this forum?
Hmmm, do you really want Oracle answering questions in here? The last time anyone from Oracle really made any significant contributions was quite some time ago. Then the most typical reply would be to point you to a section in one of their on-line manuals.
Actually, Oracle do monitor these forums. However, because of the experience that people such as Rod, Russ and myself have, Oracle is more than happy for us to field the answers. We all have real-world experience of using the tool you see.
    Best wishes

I find Excel to be difficult to work with when you have more than about 2000 points.  With 100,000, you are way over that limit.  Before I joined NI, I would have used Mathematica to do analysis and plotting of that sort of data.  But LabVIEW will do it very easily, as well.  Other NI software which can help are DIAdem or the report generation toolkit (as mentioned above).  For specific types of analysis, you can also check out Wikipedia's list of open source analysis programs.

Please read the FAQ first http://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1535
It addresses several things what one would need to know to be able to answer your question (see 'How to ask questions')
Currently your question can not be answered.

  • Book on oraclebi spreadsheet add-in

Does anyone know if there's any commercial book (not manual, readme, online help) specifically covering the add-in?
    djoni

The metadata is ok according to “Oracle Enterprise Manager Website”.
The version of Excel that I use is:
    Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.5612.5606).
But is very stranger that the first page item works perfectly and the others have a bad behaviour, isn’t it?

  • How to add bookmarks automatically in a monthly report from several excel files?

    Hello!
I´m using Excel 2010 and Adobe Acrobat X Pro.
I´m used to create a monthly Report in which several Excel files are combined. I usually sort the booksmarks´ hierarchy manually.
I´m searching for a method to standardize this work.
I it possible to use Acrobat Pro XI and it´s Action Wizard, is that possible?
    Best regards, Chris.

Is the length of the reports always the same? If so then a bookmarks
structure can be quite easily added using a script.
If not then it still might be possible but will require a much more complex
script to identify and then bookmark each report (or part thereof)
    separately.

  • Express Spreadsheet Add-in Saved Selections

    Hi All,
I am currently doing some development with Express 6.3.4 and the Spreadsheet Add-in with Excel.
I was wondering if anyone new where the Saved Selections, created using the Express Wizard Selector are stored, so that I could refer to them programtically using the API.

The definitions of saved selections created within XSA are stored in the system project file (xpaddin.xpj which is just a binary file) of the user who created them. Saved selections created in this way are only accessible to the user that created them through XSA. This file is located in the XSA directory.
