Creating Backup Files

Hello,
I have a VI designed to a user to write and update data that is displayed on a tree.  The data can be saved to an XML and can be opened for later use and updating.  My question, is it possible to tell Windows to copy the XML file and paste it in a different folder (back it up) via LabVIEW before the file is officially opened?  This way the user isn't responsible for having to do it every time they wish to alter the XML.
Remember, code does exactly what you tell it.

kschethan wrote:
How can I do that ? Can you give me step by step procedure to perform this using source code control system.
Go look up Tortoise SVN.  It actually has nothing to do with LabVIEW other than it is maintaining your VIs in a database.

    I want to know how to create a backup file (because I'm pretty new with itunes, and it's hard to use it for me still), how to store my app data/media/videos, etc. And how I can retrieve them back when I'm done with the app I tried on my friend's computer.
    If anyone can help, it'd be great! Thank you so much!

    Sure-glad to help you. You will not lose any data by changing synching to MacBook Pro from imac. You have set up Time Machine, right? that's how you'd do your backup, so I was told, and how I do my backup on my mac.  You should be able to set a password for it. Save it.  Your stuff should be saved there. So if you want to make your MacBook Pro your primary computer,  I suppose,  back up your stuff with Time machine, turn off Time machine on the iMac, turn it on on the new MacBook Pro, select the hard drive in your Time Capsule, enter your password, and do a backup from there. It might work, and it might take a while, but it should go. As for clogging the hard drive, I can't say. Depends how much stuff you have, and the hard drive's capacity.  As for moving syncing from your iMac to your macbook pro, should be the same. Your phone uses iTunes to sync and so that data should be in the cloud. You can move your iTunes Library to your new Macbook pro
    you should be able to sync your phone on your new MacBook Pro. Don't know if you can move the older backups yet-maybe try someone else, anyways,
    This handy article from Apple explains how
    How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support''
    don't forget to de-authorize your iMac if you don't want to play purchased stuff there
    and re-authorize your new macBook Pro
    time machine is an application, and should be found in the Applications folder. it is built in to OS X, so there is nothing else to buy. double click on it, get it going, choose the Hard drive in your Time capsule/Airport as your backup Time Machine  and go for it.  You should see a circle with an arrow on the top right hand of your screen (the Desktop), next to the bluetooth icon, and just after the wifi and eject key (looks sorta like a clock face). This will do automatic backups  of your stuff.

  • Error creating backup file

    Hi,
    I'm running adobe digital editions on a Mac OS X 10.6.3 and I keep getting this error message whenever I open adobe digital editions.
    Error creating backup file: /Users/yongrufui/Documents/Digital Editions/backup_manifest.xml
    Error detail: Error #2038
    This message also appears when I go to Library view. And I can't load my new ebook either.
    Please help!

    I wish I had an answer, but I have the same problem.  My error is: Error Creating Backup File  c:windows\personal\MyDigital Editions\Backup_Manifest.xml
    Error Detail: Error #2038
    I've reported this to Adobe and someone is trying to resolve, but its been over 4 days now.  All of the suggestions provided so far haven't fix it.
    I get this error upon Launching ADE.  Always comes up on Launch, but I can move on by clicking OK.  However, all that does is remove the error message. Still cannot download books from library.

  • Log4j doesn't create backup files in web-app, the same code in pure java ap

    Hi all,
    in my application I have a class DummyLogger, which is a superclass to all others. It provides them a log4j Logger.
    In the constructor it sets up the important attributes:
    log = Logger.getLogger(name+" (" + app + ") ");
    log.setLevel(Level.toLevel(level));
    PatternLayout defaultLayout = new PatternLayout("%p %c,line %L,%d{dd.MM.yyyy/HH:mm:ss},%m%n");
    RollingFileAppender rollingFileAppender = new RollingFileAppender();
    rollingFileAppender.setName(name);
    rollingFileAppender.setFile(path+app+".log", true, false, 0);
    rollingFileAppender.setMaxFileSize("10MB");
    rollingFileAppender.setMaxBackupIndex(5);
    rollingFileAppender.setLayout(defaultLayout);
    log.removeAllAppenders();
    log.addAppender(rollingFileAppender);
    log.setAdditivity(false);Formerly I had the application as a pure java app and everything worked fine. Now I've made it a web application (I run it on WebsphereAS 5.0) and it has stopped creating the backup files. However the code remained the same.
    Any ideas what has happend?
    Thanks a lot,
    Ondra

    I also have the same problem. Did you find a fix?

  • Mediasmart ex485 - cant create backup file for time machine

    I've got an Ex485 that I've put a second 750GB drive into. I'm trying to create a 200GB backup file, however the indicator will get to a certain percentage (44%) and then stop. I dont know why its doing this but its very frustrating. I can only create small backup files - 50GB or smaller. And those small sizes are of no use to me, I need it to be able to backup all my data on my mac.

    I have the EX490, so it may be different, but I had to manually create a directory on the EX490 called 'Mac', then share that to make it work.  It did not work out of the box.  When I run the mac software from the EX490 it installs a HP Mediaserver icon in my system preferences.  From there it lets me create a Time Machine volume.  I have set this up on two separate macs now in the house and both can backup with Time Machine.  One volume is 100GB and the other 400GB.  Not sure if this helps you? Also running Snow Leopard if that makes any difference.

  • Can't access the bookmarks backup file I created on my external harddrive from my desktop to restore on my laptop.

    I created a firefox bookmarks backup file from my desktop computer on my external USB hard drive so that I could transfer them to my laptop. I go to "organize bookmarks" on my laptop, choose "restore", "choose file", navigate to the external drive. All the regular folders display, but the backup bookmarks file does not display. It's there when I open the drive in windows explorer. Why isn't it there in the restore bookmarks window?

    How is your external drive formatted? Use Disk Utility to check the volume format. If it is NTFS, you will need to reformat the HDD as exFAT in order to retain universal compatibility (RW to it on both Mac and Windows).

  • How to Create new database from cold backup files.

    Dear Experts,
    I have an oracle 10g databae on windows 2003 server.
    The database is in Archive log mode and backup strategy is Taking cold backup ever night.
    Backup steps:
    shut down database.
    copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location.
    Startup.
    I have taken a backup at Tuesdaay 1AM and I have archive logs also.
    On Wednesday, I want to Create a new database on another server with the available cold backup files and archive logs. I want to recover the database upto 4PM Wednesday. How can I do this.
    I am not using control file auto backup or control file backup to trace.
    Please help me how can I do this. I am new to oracle database Administration.
    --Thanks

    The steps :
    shut down database.
    copy data files, control files, redo logs, archive logs and parameter files to safe location -- you mean the alternate location for the new databaseare correct (except that I would say "alternate location for the new database").
    If you do not have controlfile backups, you cannot either OPEN the database or RECOVER the database until and unless you CREATE the Controlfiles. You have to generate a CREATE CONTROLFILE script using a BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE from the Production serer and create the controlfile on the new server.
    BEFORE the Startup, I would use
    RECOVER DATABASE USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE UNTIL CANCEL;The "using backup controlfile" tells Oracle to continue attempting Recovery -- ie doing a RollForward -- till the last archivelog made available to it.
    For the Recover command, you then keep applying the ArchiveLogs from the Tuesday 1am ColdBackup upto Wednesday 4pm.
    Once you have applied the last ArchiveLog, you do an
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;Here are my notes of doing a RollForward "Recovery" from a Cold Backup :
    http://hemantoracledba.blogspot.com/2007/05/rollforward-from-cold-backup.html
    If you are attempting all these steps on a different server from your current Production database, you should be safe.
    Once you OPEN the database, you can use CREATE CONTROLFILE or the NID utility to rename the database.
    If you are attempting to create the new database on the same server there are many other precautions you have to take and unless you have experience with cloning databases, I would advice you against doing so (only the RMAN DUPLICATE DATABASE command has a safer method of cloning a database).

  • How do you restore the system from a backup file that you created previously

    I have a notebook, Pavilion g6 - 1031TX running windows 7 64bit OS, and ran the backup utility a few weeks ago before running a full system recovery to attemp to fix an issue - this issue was fixed by warranty, and now I need to recover everything from the backup files, I have run the restore executable in the folder and it created another folder on my C: drive (System recovery files), how do I use this to restore the system to its previous state?

    Unfortunately, the backup utilty portion of Recovery is not optimal solution for restoring many files.Unless you know exactly where they go you are stuck. Most of the important stuff such as photos,music,etc will be in the 'Users' folder under your user name. You will have to manually move them to correct location.
    A better option in the future is Windows 7's backup app in Control Panel.

  • AddressBook created empty backup file

    10.4.7 with all the updates. I tried to backup AddressBook as its been a couple months since the last backup. I get the file, but it is a directory with only one file named xxx and has size of zero. Removed the AddressBook preferences, ran Preferential Treatment, Rebuilt Permissions and no change. Everything else in AddressBook works fine. ktrace of AddressBook shows lots of file activity but no real attempts to write to the backup file, just the creation of the directory and the xxx file.
    Switching to a test user account, AddressBook generates a backup file with data in it.
    macbook pro

    I wish I had a good answer for that. The basic approach I used was to run ktrace to see if I could find the cause. Thats what left the xxx file in the directory. It didn't help. Then I found 2 prefereneces for Address Book. The obvious one and one what another few characters at the end. I removed both and let it rebuild. Only the obvious one got rebuilt. That didn't help. Thats when I noticed that the contents of the backup file only consisted of an empty xxx file. Removing the xxx file from the address book directory then made everything work. Obviously the xxx file was not the original cause. However, it also kept address book from creating a backup. Perhaps there was something in one of the 2 preference files that originally caused the problem. I can't tell at this point.

  • What do I fix so time machine will recognize the backup file it created on my external drive?

    I use a 1TB Toshiba external HDD (MacOS extended, journaled format) for Time Machine and have had no problems for a year or so. Shortly before my video circuit died and I had to have the logic board replaced, TM stopped backing up with the "backup volume could not be found" error or the "insufficient disc space" error. When I open TM it shows no backup files available. I don't recall making any changes around the time this cropped up, but who knows? Any suggestions on reconecting TM with its old "Backups.backupdb" ?

    Thank you for the pointer. I somehow didn't find all the links to begin with, so mea culpa for troubling folks before doing enough homework. For those bumbling around like me with older MBPs that get new logic boards late in life, the problem is nigh insoluble since the new board looks to TM as a new computer, which it is. Best to borrow another disk to copy the old backup if needed and then to start clean with a new TM backup.

    I wanted to know if there is a way to restore my tabs before the format of the computer (Ive had a lot of them and its very important) from the backup file or an other way

    The currently open tabs are stored in the sessionstore.js file, so you need to restore a backup of that file to get back the tabs.
