Creating columns from a comma

I have a CSV file that opens with all the text in column A. I need to create a column at every comma. How can I do this?

Chris, as your profile says you're in Pennsylvania, it's unlikely that you machine is set to use the comma as the decimal separator.
To check enter these into two separate cells:
123.45
123,45
If the results are 123.45 and 12,345 then the period is your decimal separator and the comma your thousands separator, which is the standard setting for a US (English) machine. Numbers should recognize a filename.csv file formatted as you've described and should OPEN that file with the data correctly placed on a single table.
Numbers will not, however, INSERT that file correctly into an existing table, nor will it recognize and correctly OPEN or INSERT a CSV file that does not include the .csv extension to the filename.
If you want to place the data into an existing table, here's a procedure:
Open the file using Text Edit or Pages.
Delete the " at the beginning of the data and the one at the end of the data.
Do two passes of Find/Change
1. Find: "," (enter all three characters— quotation mark comma quotation mark)
    Change: tab (in Pages press option-tab to enter a tab character)
    Change All.
2. Find: "return" (in Pages press option-return to enter a return character)
    Change: return
Change All.
Select All and Copy.
In Numbers, click on the top left cell of the array where the data is to be placed, then Paste.

  • Passing data to different internal tables with different columns from a comma delimited file

    I have a program wherein we upload a comma delimited file and based on the region( we have drop down in the selection screen to pick the region).  Based on the region, the data from the file is passed to internal table. For region A, we have 10 columns and for region B we have 9 columns.
    There is a split statement (split at comma) used to break the data into different columns.
    I need to add hard error messages if the no. of columns in the uploaded file are incorrect. For example, if the uploaded file is of type region A, then the uploaded file should be split into 10 columns. If the file contains lesser or more columns thenan error message should be added. Similar is the case with region B.
    I do not want to remove the existing split statement(existing code). Is there a way I can exactly pass the data into the internal table accurately? I have gone through some posts where in they have made use of the method cl_alv_table_create=>create_dynamic_table by passing the field catalog. But I cannot use this as I have two different internal tables to be populated based on the region. Appreciate help on this.

    I have no issues with the rows. I have a file with format like a1,b1,c1,d1,e1, the file should be uploaded and split at comma. So far its fine. After this, if the file is related to region A say Asia, then it should have 5 fields( as an example). So, all the 5 values a1,b1..e1 will be passed to 5 fields of itab1.
    I also have region B( say Europe)  whose file will have only 4 fields. So, file is of the form a2,b2,c2,d2. Again data is split at comma and passed to itab2.
    If some one loads file related to Asia and the file has only 4 fields  then the data would be incorrect. Similar is the case when someone tries to load Europe file with 5 fields related data. To avoid this, I want to validate the data uploaded. For this, I want to count the no. of fields (seperated by comma). If no. of fields is 5 then the file is related to Asia or if no. of fields is 4 then it is Europe file.
    Well, the no. of commas is nothing but no. of fields - 1. If the file is of the form a1,b1..e1 then I can say like if no. of commas = 4 then it is File Asia.But I am not sure how to write a code for this.Please advise.

  • Excel & ActiveX: Insert arbitrary columns from 2D array and create graph problems

    Hi there,
    I want to insert data from either a 1D or 2D array from LabView into Excel and create graphs.
    I used the information from the following example:

    and was able to create a new Excel file (I'm using Excel 2010), writing data from an 1D array to a column in excel by creating a while loop and using the first element of the array to write it to a specific cell. I use the counter of the loop to write to the next cell when the loop starts over and always delete the first value, which I write to the cell, from the array until it is empty.
    Now I also would like to write a 2D array - so the first column in Excel should be the first column from the array and so. Here I cannot use the loop counter directly as Excel only counts 1,2,... for the rows, but uses A,B,... to count columns. Also I do not know in advance how many columns my 2D array will contain, so creating a lookup table like (A means 1, B means 2,...) is not really an option (except there really is no other way). Is there a possibilty to convert numbers into letters or some way to 'explain' to the program that column 2 in the array means column B in Excel for example, or is there a way to insert new columns?
    I figured out how to add new Worksheets and as I also need to create a certain number of Worksheets and I know that on standard 3 sheets are present when creating the file, I use the 'add' methode to create every new worksheets before worksheet 3 - I could use the same methode to create new columns in Excel, but so far I didn't find a methode to do so. Or is there a way to enter the whole 2D array at once?
    Then I'd like to create a graph (in case of the 1D arrays a bar plot, when using 2D arrays a 3D plot) to view the data. I found this example:

    I tried to load the snippet to a new Excel file but got the error message 'microsoft.office.interop.excel.dll not found' and hence the code is not working. That confuses me a little as I would guess when this dll is not present I cannot access Excel from LabView at all, though my understanding of what I'm really doing so far is quiet limited. ;-)
    Also - as far as I understand from the snippet - when creating a new chart object I should be able the create methodes for it, however when I do a right click on the chart object of an ActiveX Worksheet symbol there are none listed.
    To explain my problems better I added a snippet showing my two problems: The inner of the two while loops shows how I import a 1D array. In the outer loop I seperate the columns. I know that currently this is not working as all data end up in column A of the Excel sheet - so I would need to convert the number of the outer counter to A, B,... or find a different solution.
    Moreover on the snippet I placed an ActiveX Worksheet Property with the Chart Object - as I can see the difference to the Chart Object in the example code from the last link above is the color. However I'm not sure what that means and how to change/ solve this.
    And just to make sure - I know this way the VI does not run as the Chart Object is placed completely wrong - I just did it, so it is included in the snippet.

    I only have the LabView Student Edition available here - is the toolkit included in it too. How can I check if it is installed/ available and in case it is installed - where can I find it?
    Today I had time to take a look at the example
    Create via ActiveX Labview a XY Scatter plot graph on an excel sheet
    It almost does what I want in terms of creating a graph. The only problem I could not fix, is that in this example a sheet is created where only the graph is present. i'd like to add the graph to a previously created worksheet. Today I tried get this working but it seems I stilll don't really understand what I'm doing, I'll post a snippet of my code as soon as I can access the PC with LabView on it again.
    I also took a look at the other example for inserting 2D attays - it seems to be what I need, I just had no time so far to test it, I'll post an update when I could test it.

  • Problem creating a datablock with columns from 2 tables...

    Hello guys, i have a problem in creating a datablock with columns from 2 different tables. I try to create the datalock manually and in the Query Data Source Type Property i choose FROM clause query, and in the query data source name property i type my sql statement with the columns i want to display.After that i place the items that the datablock will contain , manually from the painter. However , when i run the application, the datablock doesn't display the items from the database. Am i doing something wrong?

    Never mind Peter, I found the error. I forgot to make execute_query for the datablock, so this was the reason why the items weren't displayed to me.

  • Create App From Spreadsheet: "column name is an Oracle reserved word"

    I'm creating an App from a spreadsheet on apex.oracle.com (3.0.0.00.20 at time of writing) and receiving the error "The identified column name is an Oracle reserved word. Please choose another name."
    I've tried adding an underscore to the end of each column name in order to avoid having to check every column name (yup, lazy) but that didn't remove the error, nor is any column name identified by the interface.

    Hi David,
    There was a bug at one time where reserved words were not being checked properly when creating columns. A particular problem related to names beginning with "SYS".
    Try adding the underscore in front of the column name.

  • Create ViewCriteria comparing two columns from same table

    Does anyone know how I can create a ViewCriteria where clause that compares two columns from the same table?
    For example if I had two integer columns (MINSAL and MAXSAL) and wanted to see if they are equal. I would normally do the following SQL below.
    SELECT * FROM EMPL
    WHERE MINSAL = MAXSAL

    It works, but it is not ideal.
    Setup a Transient column that performs a groovy evaluation of MINSAL=MAXSAL and then my ViewCriteria evaluates the column to true and I set Query Execution Mode to Both.

  • Create trigger if referenced column from other db not exists

    I have such scenario: there are two databases DB1 and DB2.
    DB1 has table MyTable and new column was added NewCol.
    On the DB2 table a trigger was created that updates DB1.MyTable.NewCol.
    Both scripts generated by SSDT are correct but the problem is during deployment. I have an automation tool which executes publish scripts in a predefined order. In this case DB2 is executed first and the scripts fails because referenced column from DB1 doesn't
    exist yet.
    Do you have any idea how to overcome this issue? Off course I could change an order in which scripts are executed and create DB1 before DB2. But in other scenario I could have a cross reference dependency and I am afraid there is no use for SSDT in such
    case.

    I found a workaround. The solution is to handle it manually in an pre-deployment script.
    In this scenario I added pre-deployment script for DB2 to check if new column exists in DB1 and if not then create it.

  • Link column from an interactive report to insert a row in a tabular form

    Hi, I need your help, i'm new on APEX and i really need to make a "link column" from an "interactive report" to insert a row into a "tabular form".
    I mean that when you click the "link column" instantly create a new row in the Tabular form with the information of the linked row on the interactive report. Its something like that.

    You can use the following code as per your requirement (this is just an example),
    (In this case IR report is in Page#1 and Tabular form is in Page#2),
    On Page#1, Create a hidden item (i.e 'P1_ID')
    IR Report query as like the below,

    from empUse the below JS code in Page HTML Header section,

    You can not 'change' the ownership.
    You can, however, 'move' or 'clone' most objects by exporting and importing. As follows:
    I create a table under SYS (shudder).
    I then export it
    - using userid SYS in this case,
    - under normal circumstances I'd either use a DBA account or the owner's userid
    - since I want a table, I use the TABLES option - a list is comma separated and in quotes
    I then import it using a 'userid' switch - fromuser & touser options
    - in this case from SYS to HR
    Finally, I verify it was transported.
    Actual console session in Linux follows:

    No it's not a bug, Oracle will treat "datab" as alias to "dataa" if comma left out.
    Doesn't your view has two columns id and datab, but datab column showing dataa data?

  • Combine CSV columns from multiple sources into one

    I am trying to import column from one CSV file and output it into additional columns on a Get-MailboxStatistics | Export-CSV command. The issue with the script I have created is that when use an Expression to create the new column it outputs all of the items
    in the column from the import CSV into one row. See script below, I have highlighted the expressions that are not working.

    There's a lot wrong with this script:
    1.  You're importing the same file 3x; you should import one and reference the things you need out of it.
    2.  If the CSV has more than one row in it, your .notation you're using to access the MailSizeMaster, MailSizeRefresh, and Alias properties is used incorrectly.  If you are trying to reference each of those properties from an array of different entries,
    the proper way would be:
    $Import = @(Import-Csv C:\usermigration.csv)
    $MailSizeMaster = $Import | Select-Object MailSizeMaster
    OR
    $MailSizeMaster = $Import | Select-Object -Expand MailSizeMaster
    ...the "OR" is not PowerShell. 
    3.  I don't know if you can concatenate different objects with the select-object cmdlet like you are.  However, what you could do is create a custom object to load the values into and then output that object:
    $filename = (Get-Date).ToString("yyyyMMdd")
    foreach ($item in $Import) {
    $MS = Get-MailboxStatistics $item.Alias
    New-Object PSObject -Property @{
