Creating Mailing Labels

How do I send out my Holiday Cards when my address book is full of individuals and I want to send out cards with mailing labels to "Mr & Mrs XXX" or to "The XXXXX Family"?  Any tips on address book name formatting for mailings would be appreciated.
I am working with Mac OS X Version 10.5.8

Hi Mark, see if this helps...
Mac OS X v10.4 through v10.5.8
Related names will not appear on the envelope or label in Mac OS X 10.4 through 10.5.8 if another card exists with the same first name as the related name and a different address than the card you are printing. To ensure that the related name will get printed, create a card with the same name as the related name, and include the same address as the card you are printing.
For example, if you want to print a label for the card "Anne Johnson" which includes her spouse's name "Juan Johnson", but you have a second card in your address book for "Juan Johnson" with a different address, Juan's name will not appear on the label for Anne Johnson. You can create a card for "Juan Johnson" which has the same address as "Anne Johnson" and then Anne's mailing label will include Juan's name.

  • Creating Mailing Labels with Merge in Pages

I am trying to create mailing labels and print to AVERY templates. I cannot find a way to do this, since I have not found any support in the AVERY templates for Pages. It seems to work if you try to merge the entire Address Book with the AVERY software templates, but I only want to merge with one group from the Address Book. Any advice?

Print directly from *Address Book,* select a Group then:
    +Menu > File > Print > Layout > Avery Standard > Select > Print+

The application Contacts holds all your addresses and telephone, email etc details.
It has a comprehensive set of Avery labels in its print dialog.
You select the Contacts or groups of Contacts you want to print then in the Print dialog click on Show Details where you can choose Style : Mailing labels and choose which labels you want.

How do I do a mail merge from my iCloud contacts within outlook to create mailing labels for a family newsletter?  It used to be so easy before I started using iCloud for my contacts.  When I select the contacts I'd like to use for the mail merge, outlook brings up the standard dialog box to hvae me create the mail merge file, but when I click OK after checking all the right boxes, nothing happens.  Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

  • Can I use my Address Book to create a data base and then merge from it to create mailing labels?

Is it possible to use my Address Book to create a data base and then merge from it to create mailing labels?
    Thanks,
    CF

I know one way, it is not elegant but it does work.
    1. Open Thunderbird. (download here: https://www.mozilla.org/EN/thunderbird/)
    2. Click on Address Book.
    3. On the left in the new window is a list of your Address books and groups. Select the one you want.
Your addresses will appear to the right.
    4. In Thunderbird / Tools select Export, and Save as "Comma Separated".
You can open that list of addresses in Excel or in FileMaker Pro. Mail merge proceeds from there.

  • Creating mailing labels from an excel worksheet

I have been following the directions using data merge manager. but I only get the first row name in every label on the page. My excel document is a list of names in 1 column. I want to create 1 label for every name. What am I doing wrong?

Well, I cannot be positive about the Mac 2011 version, but I teach Microsoft Office at a community college. If you are using the wizard, you should start from a blank document, select the mail merge wizard. You then tell it the starting document, set up as labels. From there, you would select the Recipients, and from there, you navigate to the file you are going to use, and in this case, an Excel spreadsheet. Here is where it gets a little dodgy. When you select Existing list, can you choose your Excel file? After selecting the Excel sheet, is it prompting about the header row, or is this where you are seeing it ask about the conversion? I know it may look a little different than the Windows document, but it should work rather similar. Hoping I can help you.

  • Help!  Trying to create mailing labels

I wanted to create some address labels for some invitations I'm sending out. Since all my addresses are in my Address Book, i figured Pages would have some really handy merging tool that I could use. I see the "address book field" functionality, but I don't see anywhere to set up my document as mailing lables. Can anybody guide me?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Casey
Pages just isn't made for doing sheets of labels. It's a word processing/page layout program, not a database. Trying a merge doesn't work because Pages only puts one contact per page.
But, probably the biggest reason Apple has chosen not to do labels in Pages is that Address Book can do labels from the Print menu. Much easier doing right from the program with all of your addresses. (That being said, Address Book doesn't do it for me - too limiting in display of data.)

  • How do I creating mailing labels in Pages?

Is there a template around for this?

The problem is Pages only merges one VCard per page, ie they are all the same address.
There is a work around but you are better off just printing from Contacts directly, creating a group for the set of addresses you are using. Contacts has quite sophisticated layout options for the labels in the Print dialog.

  • Creating mailing labels using merge with Pages

Something I can do easily in Word seems impossible in Pages 09 (which I've begun using full time instead of Word and find it much more stable and easy to work with).
I have a postcard size document which fits on a third of an 81/2 X 11 page. So I have three repeats on the page. Follow so far?
I want to merge people's names into the postcard - three different names on a page. What I can't figure out is how to tell the merge to go to the next records for the second and third cards on each page! Easy to do in Word - I just drag and drop <Next Record> before the merge fields forpostcards 2 & 3.
There doesn't seem to be that possibility in Pages. I get three postcards the same on each page - the next three (the second record) all the same on the second page, and so on for each subsequent page. I don't want three identical postcards per page! I want cards with three different names on the same page.
Does anybody have an idea how this might be done or do I just do it in Word?

    Peter
I was able to track down the script. Thanks.
Definitely a complicated way of doing something that's relatively straightforward in Word. Guess I'll have to stick to Word for creating these kinds of merge documents! Too bad, really.

  • How to create multiple copies of the same mailing label?

I know how to create mailing labels for addresses in my address book. How do I print an entire sheet of the same address on a page of mailing labels? The preview when I select 20 copies of one address label does not show the same label on multiple times on the page, only once. Does that mean it will only print one label per page for a total of 20 pages or does it only show one since they will all print the same?
I'd like to use this to create custom return address labels

It's tedious but you can create a new group in Address Book, make 20 entries (or however many entries would make one label page's worth) for your own name and print just that group.
Avery has free software that I believe does what you want but I haven't used it. Comments on the download page indicate the Avery software lacks on directions.

  • What program do I use to make mailing labels?

I can no longer use Apple works for my mailing list.  What program should I get to make mailing labels, and how can I convert my old .cws databases to create mailing labels?
    Extremely frustrated with OpenOffice!!!

I could not convert the database file from Appleworks, but I did get LibreOffice which is a free program, and it does open the old Appleworks files, and will convert them to .csv which can then be imported into "Contacts".  (create your new group in Contacts first, and import it into that)  LibreOffice might be able to convert into mailing labels, but I sure couldn't figure it out.  So I had to pull the .csv file into "Contacts".  Then from the print window, I can choose the options to print labels and it works.

  • TRYING to format for mailing labels.

Hello all, I'm having a problem I'm hoping you could possibly help me figure out. I bought labels from office max today with the intent of formatting my word processor (in this case pages) so that I can just type up the names and addresses and print them out on the label sheet. well stupid, naive little me figured there'd be instructions on how to format your word processor so that the labels printed out correctly... and there wasn't. so i've been trying to figure out a way on my own to format the page correctly, but I can't seem to get anything to work right. I tried creating a table, but the actual page of labels has a space in between each column of labels, where as the table does not, which would ultimately off-set the second and third column of the labels.
I know it has been suggested numerous amount of times (believe it or not I actually tried to research this question before posting) that anyone attempting to create mailing labels just use the address book application... but the reason I CAN'T do that is because I don't actually have a printer that is compatible with my mac right now. I need to type up the mailing labels and then e-mail them to a PC in order to get them printed out, therefore rendering the address book method useless to me.
If anyone has ANY suggestions of what I can do (that doesn't involve me immediately purchasing a new printer... ), I would greatly appreciate it.
I hope this thread made SOME kind of sense... if not, i'd be more than happy to clarify anything you are confused about.
    Thank you!

There are several ways you can go about this.
    1. Most labels come with Word templates or downloadable Word templates. Simply open those in Pages.
    2. Make a table with extra cells for the thin spaces between the labels and skinny those down to match the spaces. ie You have big fat cells for the actually labels and thin narrow empty ones for the gaps.
    3. Make a floating Text box the size of one label, format with dummy text just the way you like it.
    +Menu > Format > Advanced > Define as Placeholder text+
You can now drag and drop snippets of text, the addresses etc onto those and it will replace them matching the style of the existing text.
You duplicate that text box into position of the other labels by clicking on it with the command kety held down, then drag copy it up or across with the option and shift keys held down. Fine tune the positions with:
    +Inspector > Metrics > Position+
