Creating New Folders using Windows Explorer is very slow

Hi,
We have a SharePoint 2013 environment upgraded from SharePoint 2010. When working with Windows Explorer, users are able to navigate the folders normally without any issues. However, if a user tries to create a new folder from inside Windows Explorer, the
process takes up to 30 seconds to complete and most of the time through the process the window shows "Not Responding". However, after that the folder is created normally. We did not face this issue in the previous SharePoint 2010 environment.
I have tried the various suggested solutions online like disabling "Automatically detect settings" in IE but that did not fix the issue.
Our environment is SharePoint 2013 with Windows Server 2012 R2. Our users are using IE9.
Any idea what might be causing the problem?
Thank you.

Hi,
Please test the issue on more client PC and see if it is a client performance issue.
If you create new Folder via Windows Explorer on a SharePoint server, does the issue still occur?
Is there load balance deployed in your envrionment?
Does the issue occur if you map a network drive to a SharePoint library per the steps in the article below, then create a new folder:

  • I can no longer create new folders in Windows 7; could this problem be a result of recently reinstalling Firefox?

I'm using Windows 7 Home premium on an HP Pavilion laptop. Maybe two weeks ago, I stopped being able to create new folders in the Windows Explorer box; I click the "New Folder" button, and nothing happens: no error message, nothing. Around two weeks ago, I also reinstalled Firefox to get rid of some adware virus (success: the adware is gone!). I do not recall the exact timing on when I did the reinstall and when I stopped being able to create new folders, but I'm wondering if the folder problem could be related to the re-install. And if so, what can I do about it?
Thanks so much for any help you can offer.

Hello FJasmine, no, it is not related the firefox update with that.

  • Windows Explorer is very slow when working locally on 2008 R2 server

We have 3 file servers in our office. All run Windows 2008 Server R2 X64 Enterprise. File server services are all they do.
One of the servers runs perfectly.
Two of the servers... when an office user uses windows explorer on their own machine to view the folders & files on the file server it is extremely fast. But, if I either log in locally or RDP onto the file server... using windows explorer... it is slow
as molasses. I wold estimate a 5-7 second delay.
Microsoft is blaming Doubletake, a replication software package we use. But... we use Doubletake on all three of these servers... I have found postings suggesting Kaspersky AV is the issue... but again, we have Kaspersky on all 3 servers.
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
Please understand that an issue could be caused by an application in specific environment. Thus we cannot eliminate an application just because it works fine on other systems.
A quick test is to disable an application (Doubletake and Kaspersky in this case) and see if issue still exists. Please make sure it is disabled completely.
A common suggestion to determine if an issue is caused by third party program is to booting the computer into Clean Boot mode. Detailed steps could be found here:
Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
If issue still exists in Clean Boot Mode, it should not be caused by the third party application which is disabled already. It is still suggested to make sure all third party apps are disabled when you boot into Clean Boot mode.

  • No Default ACL when using Windows Explorer?

No matter what Default ACL I specify on any user's account,
adding new documents using Windows Explorer causes an initial
ACL of "Published". Also, when I right-click on the iFS network
drive and select "iFS User Profile", it shows the Default ACL
    as "Published".
    Is this a known feature?
I want my users to be able to do everything from Windows
Explorer, but they need to copy and paste "template" folder
structures. If they do this in Windows Explorer, the ACL's do
not get copied. I could understand if someone says the pasted
folders are new folders, so they should get the user's Default
ACL, but even that isn't working, so the users must go through
each folder/file and reestablish an ACL using Windows Explorer.
BTW, The Web Application copies the ACLs in a copy/paste
    operation.
    Thanks,
    David Frankel

  • How to stop Windows iTunes from spontaneously creating new folders with duplicate copies of songs, and renaming existing folders?

I've recently started using iTunes regularly to import CDs. Since then, I've found my Windows 'My Music' folder is behaving in bizarre ways.
I like to organise most of my music in folders by Genre --> Album title, without paying attention to Artist. I also like to rename certain album folders (and the Album name in each track's metadata as well, so that each album/folder remains consistent), and also to create customised 'mix tape' album folders. I just want to use Windows Explorer / My Computer to manage this; I don't want to do it via iTunes. I just want to use iTunes for initially getting the music from CD to computer.
Previously, when I was using Windows Media Player to import CDs, if Windows Media Player placed an imported CD under a folder category I don't use, such as Artist, I would just manually move the Album folder and delete the empty parent Artist folder. However these days iTunes is spontaneously creating an entire series of Artist folders, even for tracks and albums that were already on my computer, and is placing duplicate track files into them. Additionally, it's renaming albums for folders and tracks I've customised, turning album titles back into their original values. This is happening even though the destination for newly imported/downloaded iTunes tracks is not the My Music folder itself, but rather another folder within that one. I've had a look at Preferences --> Advanced and the 'Keep iTunes media folder organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library' boxes are already unchecked, so it's not related to that anyway. How do I get iTunes to leave my folders alone?

First off see this user tip so should any further unwanted changes happen you have a chance to revert to your original layout.
It is not unknown for AV software to interfere with iTunes and corrupt its configuration files. If this happens iTunes can revert to the default settings to "Keep..." & "Copy...". Deselecting those options won't return any files to their original paths.
If you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled under Edit > Preferences > Store that can lead iTunes to download the original metadata for any of your purchases and show that instead of any edits you may have made to it. Turing that option off and restarting iTunes may reveal your version of the metadata.
There is another option under Edit > Preferences > Store that reads "Share details about your library with Apple" although I don't think that changes metadata in the way that the similar option in Windows Media Player does. Double-check your settings in Windows Media Player (Options > Library) to make sure it isn't set to "Retrieve additional information from the Internet". This is usually the cause of spontaneous tag resetting. WMP can be called into life in the background when visiting certain websites and it has a lazy cache, meaning it can sometimes write out metadata to your media files long after the data was originally acquired.
It is also work noting that mp3 files may contain multiple tags and iTunes, for one, treats these unpredictably. In some cases it may appear to accept and write out a tag change only to later read back the original unchanged data from another copy of the tag.

  • Can't create new folders

One day, just randomly my laptop stopped letting me create new folders. when i right click and go to "new" the option is simply not there, and when i open windows explorer and click new folder, nothing happens. I have to copy a folder, delete its contents, and rename it every time i wish to create a new folder. I have made no major changes to my computer; the only things I have done is download music from itunes, and a few new video games. I cannot find anywhere that it could be.
Also, I might add I use Comodo firewall, wich not only blocks things from acessing the internet, but from files acessing other files, registry, etc. I didn't know if this could be affecting it. When i instal something new I have to allow it anywhere from 3-8 times for each different thing. I've had it for a few weeks now, and noticed no problem with my laptop because of it other than constantly having it allow things when i first open them.
I have tried system recovery and ran a virus scan with avast and registry mechanic, and none of these have fixed it. The only thing i found online was a guy telling me ot download his program and install it to my registry (however, i did not trust this, because i could not find information of the name of the file he told me to install anywhere else, so i figured it would do more harm than good)

I'll assume you're talking about Windows Explorer. If the problem is elsewhere, it's a different story.
    The problem just started today.
With a little luck, a System Restore will fix that registry problem.
       What is System Restore?
Otherwise, open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to this key.
       HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\New
In the right pane, look at the data for the value (Default). It should be this.

  • CVS update "Create New Folders" unavailable

    Summary:
The Create New Folders checkbox in the Update from CVS options selection window is always inactive. I am using JDeveloper 10g v9.0.5.0.0.1375 Preview with "CVS Client Version: (CVSNT) 2.0.11 (client/server)".
    Detail:
After having checked out a module from CVS and working with it for a few hours, I decide that I want to get the latest files and versions from the repository. So I right click on the project, go to Versioning, then click on Update. In order to get the latest directory structure (including any new files contained therein) from CVS I need to check the "Create New Folders" checkbox. Unfortunately this checkbox is perpetually inactive (grayed out). I can't figure out how to activate it.
Any suggestions? Right now, as a work around, I rename the working directory, do another module checkout, then move any of my changes from the previous working directory to the new one. This is obviously very cumbersome so I really need some way to perform a 'cvs update -d' on the working directory.

    Hi,
Thanks for reporting this. It's a known issue that will be resolved in the production release.

  • How can I get my files back in their proper folders in Windows Explorer?

For over 10 years I have meticulously put my photos in folders according to month, event.  So a folder is in directory labeled 2013, with
I've successfully used Adobe Bridge to browse, edit, final edit in Photoshop.
Now I use Lightroom and everything is put into a Lightroom Catalog with weird numbers on the folders and all my pictures have vanished from my carefully created folders on Windows Explorer?
How do I put the pictures back to where they were - short of going to my backup files.
Also since using Lightroom, Photoshop is hanging saying it is waiting for Network I/O threads - so I cannot save (on my own disk - why Photoshop CC should look at the network for every task beats me - I had about 5 threads waiting on the network).
All I'm trying to do is find my best 12 pictures from 2013 to make a Christmas letter and I've already spent a whole evening trying to get this to work.
Is this how Lightroom works, or is it a terrible bug, or is there an option to not move the original files when making a Lightroom catalog?
I am a single user, so don't need sharing, network, workflow.
I only want Lightroom to Point to my files, not to move them.  Maybe I should go back to Bridge?

I discovered a wonderful blog that explained:
Lightroom is a database and it holds the pictures
Bridge is a browser that browses files on the disk
I'm getting used to Lightroom, even though I have many pictures because I organize them and only look at recent ones, it does seem that Bridge is better for me - so I am not locked into Adobe's database.
All is clear now - except Photoshop is hanging a bit - maybe graphics driver or memory problem. Sometimes it works, sometimes it seems to time out.

  • Cannot create new folders in Outlook

I just bought a new PC computer.  I installed MSFT Office Professional Plus 2010.  I opened Outlook and added in (i) the pst folder I had set up from my previous Vista
computer (also with Outlook 2010), (ii) my hotmail account, (iii) my at&t/yahoo account and (iv) my gmail account.  I cannot create new folders in any of them.
When I right click anywhere in the navigation pane and select "New Folder..." I get the following error message:
"Outlook cannot read the registry information.
    -Close and restart Outlook.
    -Reinstall Outlook
-Reinstall Microsoft Exchange or other e-mail system."
I tried all three, including removing and reinstalling Office and removing all of the email accounts/pst files and re-adding and still have the problem.
If I try to right-click properties on any of the accounts, I get the same error message, with the following additional language first:
"Cannot display 'General' page. This page will remain visible, but is not available."
Not sure what is left to try.
    Appreciate any ideas.

    1.
Start the Outlook in safe mode,

  • Specify an input file using Windows Explorer

Hi, I'm very new to Orchestrator.
Instead of writing stand-alone PowerShell scripts to perform tasks against an input file, I would like to use Orchestrator, thus avoiding the need to write the code.
Is there a way to specify an input file using Windows Explorer via Orchestrator?  When invoked, I would like my Runbook to open up Windows Explorer, where I could navigate to my input file, then press OK and have my automated processes run.  Do
I need to look beyond Orchestrator, say towards Service Manager, or is this natively available in Orchestrator?
    Thanks,
    Nick.

    Hi,
    there are several Ways.
you can use the SCO Webconsole, to start a Runbook and put in a Porpertie.
you can use SCSM with SMPortal to define the File
or you can use the free EUPSCO Portal, to build a Webfrontend for SCO

  • Creating new folders/playlists

are you supposed to be able to create new folders to move your music into? if yes, how do i go about it?

Folders are something you can use in iTunes to manage playlists. Folders are not supported on the iPod so any you have in iTunes don't transfer over. You can add a folder by going to File>Add Folder then drag the playlists into it. You don't drag individual tracks to a folder you use playlists for that:

if I try to add a new folder to a sub folder, the program does add the new bookmark folder, but it also renames the next folder in line in the parent of the original "subfolder" to the exact same name...

  • Cannot create new folders on desktop. Cannot drag new items onto desktop. Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal. Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas. Thank you.

I can no longer create new folders on my desktop. The option to do that is now light gray on the drop down menu and can't be selected.
I cannot drag new items onto desktop any longer either.
The Desktop in Finder opens with Terminal.
Folders and items on Desktop open and work normally.
Not sure if this has anything to do with upgrading to Mavericks but I need help if anyone has ideas.
    Thank you.

Take these steps if the cursor changes from an arrow to a white "prohibited" symbol when you try to move an icon on the Desktop.
Sometimes the problem may be solved just by logging out or rebooting. Try that first, if you haven't already done it. Otherwise, continue.
Select the icon of your home folder (a house) in the sidebar of a Finder window and open it. The Desktop folder is one of the subfolders. Select it and open the Info window. In the General section of the window, the Kind will be either Folder  or something else, such as Anything.
If the Kind is Folder, uncheck the box marked Locked. Close the Info window and test.
If the Kind is not Folder, make sure the Locked box is not checked and that you have Read & Write privileges in the  Sharing & Permissions section. Then close the Info window and do as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    xattr -d com.apple.FinderInfo Desktop
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You should get a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”). Quit Terminal.
    Relaunch the Finder.
If the problem is now resolved, and if you use iPhoto, continue.
Quit iPhoto if it's running. Launch it while holding down the option key. It will prompt you to select a library. Choose the one you want to use (not the Desktop folder.)

  • Creating new folders in Mail

    Greetings..
How does one create new folders under the inbox for organizing purposes? I was expecting to be able to create a "new folder" within any other folder, but all I can find is smart folders, and some other strange option which results in this new folder under the heading "On My Mac"...strange...what's this "On My Mac" all about? Why can't I just create a new folder under my inbox, and organize the way I see fit? This is really odd..

You can accomplish this by creating a new mailbox ( *plus sign* in the bottom left corner of the main window). I think this should say folder, but I didn't make this choice. It acts like a folder. Just click and drag emails from your inbox to these other mailboxes you created. The "On My Mac" just refers to where the emails get stored (/Users/yourshortname/Library/Mail)
    D.
Edit: the funny thing is the icon for the new mailboxes is a folder, go figure.
