Creating PICTURES from STILL IMAGES

I have been playing around and looking for someway to create a still picture from your movie. I have been able to create still images, but is it at all possible to just take a simple picture from one of the frames?
I am interested in using this for posting and emailing them. I also would love to be able to use the Ken Burns effect on a still image in my movie.
Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thanks SD,
I am quite aware of those two methods. My question is if it possible to to the KB Effect on one of your still images.
Forexample, you are showing a video and all the sudden it pauses and zooms in on the paused frame.
My other question is if it is possible to make a still frame and then just save it as a photo. Lets say I wanted to make a movie poster for my movie. Can I use one of the frames as a simple jpeg?

  • Best practices for creating movie from still images?

    I have created an architectural model in *someone else's* software, and animated a camera in *someone else's* software, and rendered that out to still images.  I rendered every 5th frame (for a total of 401 frames) in order to save time on rendering.  My goal is to create a short movie (2 minutes) of the camera flying around the building.
    When I imported all of the images, I stretched the duration so that they equally fit the 2 minutes, and used the keyframe assistant to sequence the layers.  Now that I've done that, the movie is choppy (as I expected it to be, since I only rendered every 5th frame).  Does anyone have suggestions as to what effect or transition can be used to smooth the sequence out?  Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?  Is this even the software I should be using?  I'm obviously a n00b, so any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Or am I living in a dreamland and I need to go back and render every single frame?
    You are. There is no effect that could automatically synthesize those missing frames even halfway realistically. Timewarp and Twixtor are only gonna make things look like a smear even with a lot of tweaking. By the time you have tweaked their settings and done all your masking and otehr corrections, your 3D render with all frames will be finished just as well and offer better quality.

  • Why does PE7 create a duplicate still image file

    I loaded PE7 and it located my Photoshop element calalog. That was fine however PE7 created duplicate or edited files. Not good when you photoshop elements catalog contains 20 thousands pictures. Is there a way to prevent PE7 from creating a duplicate still image. I had to delete the catalog and start over/

    I've never seen or heard of this, md, and I don't know any reason this would happen.
    Since this is a Photoshop Elements problem, I'd recommend you try posting your question to the Photoshop Elements forum and see if someone there can help you.

  • Creating a clip from still images

    Hey Thrill seekers.  In advance thank you for your kindness to a premier newbie.
    I'm working on a personal project for my local Habitat for Humanity Chapter.  I'm capturing single images a 5 second intervals and want to create a time lapse film of the build.  I'm also taking stills and putting them over the background created by the time lapse.  Each week I learn a little more, and see more possibilities.
    Right now I'm taking the stills, batching them through photoshop to crop to 1920X1080, and creating 500 frame clips with Quicktime Pro (seems to be a number that won't choke my computer) then using the clips in Premier Elements.
    What I'd LOVE to do would be to just import higher rez stills, (and I know I can tell premier to make the stills 1 frame by default) but then be able to treat the entire group of 4,500 or so frames as a sinlge entity so I could zoom in/out and pan on the time lapse image.  As it is now, I don't know how to do so and am locked into a single size and crop on the "video" clips.
    I realize this is a premier pro forum and I just admitted to using elements.  But if an upgrade would give me the capability I'd do so.  I've got the trial version of pro, but haven't found out how to do it there either.
    Again, thanks for your help, and be gentle.

    There are a couple considerations:
    1.) PrPro can only take images up to ~4000 pixels on the largest dimension. One can do a lot of panning on zoomed out images, far smaller than that. High-rez images will only bog things down. I would plan on just how many extra pixels you need and set the larger ones to that. One caveat: if you want to Import as a Numbered Sequence, you will need to be aware of the numbering, and keep that consistent.
    2.) You can use a Numbered Sequence:
    To import numbered still-image files as one clip
    Make sure that each still-image file name contains an equal number of digits at the end and has the correct file extension—for example, file000.bmp, file001.bmp, and so forth.
    Choose File > Import.
    Locate and select the first numbered file in the sequence, select Numbered Stills, and click Open. When Numbered Stills is selected, Adobe Premiere Pro interprets each of the numbered files as a single frame in a video clip.
    Note: Changing the default duration of still images in the Preferences dialog box does not affect the duration of numbered stills imported into a video clip. Each still becomes one frame when imported in this way.
    3.) If you are Importing as a Numbered Sequence, there might not be much time to Pan & Zoom. Plan that carefully.
    4.) I keep my stills in .PSD format, and Import that. Now, I shoot RAW, and process to .PSD in PS, so it's an easy workflow to maintain.
    5.) You are talking about a lot of stills. I have done Projects with just over 2000 .PSD's, but most were sized to my Project's Frame Size, with only some being larger to allow for the Panning on a Zoomed out image. I have a pretty stout workstation, and have had no issues, but you ARE talking an HD Project (many more pixels, than my SD Projects) and many more still images.
    6.) For "Stop Motion," I find that 3 Frames is about right for most of my subjects. If you do not want a "Stop Motion" look, then choose the Default Still Duration that works best for your concept.
    I do not believe that PrE has the Numbered Sequence feature, and also chokes on larger still images well before PrPro does. Personally, I'd never attempt a Project of this magnitude in PrE, but I only have PrE 4, so maybe PrE 8 has better capabilities. I just do not know.
    Good luck, and there will probably be other thoughts that pop into my mind. You might also want to post to the PrE forum, and link back to this post too, so people can follow along, and not end up posting the same comments in two places.
    Hunt
    [Edit] Forgot to add that the Sequences feature, alone, would be a good reason to go with PrPro, in lieu of PrE for a Project of this size. You can use those like "mini-Projects" within a "master Project." I most often use them like others do "Chapters."

  • QT X: Create and export still image?

    Is there any way in QT X to grab a video frame and export it (full-size) as an image?
    I think one could do this with QT 7 Pro (not sure). QT X allows one to trim, but the selection is limited to a duration and must be exported as a movie. I just want a still image from a video frame (and not including the Title Bar or the control bezel).
    iMovie can do this, but even there it is awkward (many steps).
    Skitch allows window grabs, but clicking on the QT window makes the bezel appear (and I have to run the movie at 100% in order to get an actual frame).
    --Thanks.

    Hi all,
    On my main machine I still run Quicktime 7 Pro, even under 10.6, to do most of my movie and image conversions and dread when Apple remove what is one of the most critical basic tools.
    Working on another machine I have come across this thread because it only has Quicktime 10 on it.
    A solution to getting a single (controlled!) frame from a movie, depending on your screen resolution, is to use Quicktime 10's trim function to trim the movie to just the frame you want and then turn on looped playback in the View menu before pressing the play button. Then you can use Grab to take a picture of your screen without the controls in the way.
    But come on Apple, exporting single frames (and the soundtracks) from a movie is a basic 20 year old function - please bring them both back.

    So I do this for each image:
    for( var f = 0; f < e.files.length; f++ ){
    name = e.files[f].name;
    src = e.files[f].url;
    path = e.files[f].parent.url;
    files.push( e.files[f] );

    image.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(

  • Aperture originals are gone, can I re-create them from referenced images?

    I have several photos in aperture with the icon indicating that they are referenced files for which the originals can't be located, and I would like tore-create originals from the thumbnails. All I've been able to find are instructions telling me to reconnect the hard drive containing the original images, or otherwise locate them. But I have no such hard drive. The images with these icons seem to be random; I'll have a project with several hundred photos, and a dozen or two have this icon for no apparent reason. There is no other hard drive to connect or anyplace else to look. Skipping over how that might have happened, I just want to be able to re-create originals from the thumbnails I have (which are actually high enough quality). Is this possible?

    All I've been able to find are instructions telling me to reconnect the hard drive containing the original images, or otherwise locate them. But I have no such hard drive.
    Is your Aperture library referenced? Where are you storing the originals of your images? In the Aperture library or in a folder outside the library? You can only reconnect images that have been imported as referenced, not managed image files.
    First thing to do, save the previews. Create a folder on the Desktop and drag the thumbnails of the images in question to that folder. That will save a jpeg of the preview to that folder.
    The images with these icons seem to be random; I'll have a project with several hundred photos, and a dozen or two have this icon for no apparent reason.
    Select one of the images  in that event, that do not show this problem and use the command "File > Show in Finder". If your image files are referenced, this will open the folder with the originals for that project and you can check, if the originals are still there. If not, your image files are not referenced, and there is no possibility in Aperture to reconnect the original files.
    Can you see the originals in the Finder?

    I know that this may have been asked before but i am trying to create a high quality slide show of my still images that will look great on a TV. i usually lay everything out in FCP. if you're going to use music or voice overs, lay down your audio tracks as appropriate. then cut all of the stills to you audio to get the timing just right. don't do any motion graphics in FCP. then, when you're satisfied with the cuts, send the entire sequence to Motion and do all of your motion graphics (grow/shrink, spins, throws, fades).
    i find that all of the motion effects can be done more easily in the Motion application. this has been my preferred workflow for over a half-dozen slideshows now.

  • Creating Thumbnail from an Image with transparent background

    Hello,
    I want to create a thumbnail image of size 200 x 200 pixels from an image of any size.
    As the thumbnail is square, I'm centering the image according to size.
    The code I'm using is working fine BUT after centering and resizing original image
    and writing it to output file the remaining area is of black color.
    I want the background should be transparent.
    Code I'm using is not using JAI.
    Please suggest me the solution.
    the code I'm using is as follows:
    public static void makeThumbnail(String inFile, String thumbFile ) throws Exception {
    Image image = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(inFile);
    MediaTracker mediaTracker = new MediaTracker(new Container());
    mediaTracker.addImage(image, 0);
    mediaTracker.waitForID(0);
    int fixedHeight = 200 ;
    int fixedWidth = 200 ;
    int imageWidth = image.getWidth(null);
    int imageHeight = image.getHeight(null);
    double imageRatio = 0.25 ;
    int thumbHeight = (int)(imageHeight * imageRatio );
    int thumbWidth = (int)(imageWidth * imageRatio );
    int x = ( fixedWidth - thumbWidth )/2 ;
    int y = ( fixedHeight - thumbHeight )/2 ;
    System.out.println(thumbHeight + " - " + y );
    System.out.println(thumbWidth + " - " + x );
    // draw original image to thumbnail image object and
    // scale it to the new size on-the-fly
    BufferedImage thumbImage = new BufferedImage(fixedWidth, fixedHeight, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Graphics2D graphics2D = thumbImage.createGraphics();
    graphics2D.setColor( new Color( 255, 255, 255, 0) );
    int rule = AlphaComposite.SRC_IN ;
    AlphaComposite ac = AlphaComposite.getInstance(rule, 0.9f);
    graphics2D.setComposite(ac);
    graphics2D.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_INTERPOLATION,RenderingHints.VALUE_INTERPOLATION_BILINEAR);
    graphics2D.drawImage(image, x, y, thumbWidth, thumbHeight, null);
    // save thumbnail image to OUTFILE
    BufferedOutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(new    FileOutputStream(thumbFile));
    JPEGImageEncoder encoder = JPEGCodec.createJPEGEncoder(out);
    JPEGEncodeParam param = encoder.getDefaultJPEGEncodeParam(thumbImage);
    int quality = 60 ;
    quality = Math.max(0, Math.min(quality, 100));
    param.setQuality((float)quality / 100.0f, false);
    encoder.setJPEGEncodeParam(param);
    encoder.encode(thumbImage);
    }

    Change this line
    BufferedImage thumbImage = new BufferedImage(fixedWidth, fixedHeight,
              BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    ...to use a BufferedImage type that supports transparency like TYPE_INT_ARGB or TYBE_4BYTE_ABGR (I would recommend the latter since your saving the image).
    Also, btw, you're not going to like the quality of the thumbnail if the image is reduced by more then half its size.

  • To get a picture from an image structure

    Hi,
    I want to do a SubVI that displays an image in a picture control.
    The input is:
    an image structure (as a cluster)
    The output is:
    a picture control (with the image to display)
    I'm using the ImageToArray.vi, and I can display a flatten or an unflatten
    pixmap. The problem is that I need the palette of the Image, and I don´t

    Is it possible to get the palette from a image structure?

    What "image structure" do you have? What is the format from which you
    extracted this "image structure"? Maybe it's a file, then what format is it
    in?

    Depends from where you got your "image structure".

  • Saving pictures from Google images.

    TThis question has been asked before but I have , as yet, to find an answer, so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone has found a solution. After the last upgrade I went to save an image from Google images  (which I have done many times before) and was given a message about Google using my photos. I wasn't sure I wanted this so said 'no'! So like a petulant child , Google is now not allowing me to save their images! Has anyone found a way round this?

    Might you have permitted Google to use your photos before?  I suspect (don't know for sure) that when you deny Google permission to access your photos, it responds in kind with a denial of permission for you to save images.
    UPDATE - Sorry, let me rephrase ..
    Allowing Google access to your photos does not necessariy mean it is trying to extract photos from your library.  It may also use this permission to place photos in your library.  I don't know for sure which way it is seeking.

  • Create jpeg from still frame in imovie

    Hello,
    Can anyone tell me how I can create a jpeg from a frame within imovie?
    Thanks so much.
    Ashley

    I was just trying to figure this out the other day and found that you can easily do this from QuickTime Pro. So you'd need to export a small movie from imovie that contains the frame you want to grab (or a movie you've already created), and then from QuickTime Pro, from the file menu, choose export, and then choose "movie to picture". From that menu box you can choose a range of options and file types to save your image file. I couldn't find this feature within imovie. If you don't have QT Pro, it is a $30 upgrade to the base QT Player.

    How do I create a still frame of my video footage in FCP, and then export it to use on my menu page in iDVD???
    Thanks
    Gerry

    Use the splice tool to cut a single frame out you want, then right click and choose Export, to Quicktime Conversion and choose Picture to JPEG setting (or something similar) then you can drop this JPEG on your background image in iDVD.
    If you don't splice the single frame, you'll end up with a JPEG for every frame in that sequence.
