You ask a lot, it's very well possible to build such an
application with
Dreamweaver
IF you know how to create a database and write code in PHP,
ASP, ColdFusion
or the like.

Automatically create a profile page when user registers?

Hi everyone,
I am building a site along with other people and I am the main web designer. I need to know how to have my site automatically create a users profile page when the said user registers on the site. Something very similar to YouTube or MySpace. Example: If a user where to create an account with the username bob678 the site/code would automatically create and directory called examplesite.com/userid/bob678 (like I said before very similar to YouTube). I cant seem to find the answer to this anywhere but I know it is possible. Any and all help is very appreciated!
PS. I already know how to allow people to register, I just need it to create a page for them.

If you want to actually create a physical directory, then you would call your server side scripting's file system functions. FWIW, many of the site's you've seen probably do not use physical directories. In many cases, the data is saved in a database and the server uses the rewrite engine to make the location more human readable.

Creating Personal Profile Pages

Hello,
I'm using DW CS3 with the Toolbox extension. Basically, I
want to create a site where users can post their own profile page.
Each user would need to register, then login.
I can create the login, profile and edit profile pages, no
problem; but how do I direct a user so that when logged in, they
only see their profile page? Right now, when logging in, it always
points to the same profile page.
Is there a tutorial on this specific topic? Do I need to use
Session variables?
I'm using WAMP, mySQL and PHP.

Ok here it is. How to create the profile page automatic after registering. I'm assuming you have created a "register.php" page and a "login.php" page. Both pages have a relationship with your database tables using PHPMySQL as well. When you created the login.php page a session variable was created. You can find it on the login page only when viewing the page in code view. The session variable will be named "MM_Username" this is case sensitive. Remember this variable.
Step 1-
        Create a new blank.php page. and save it as myprofile.php
Step 2-
        In the bindings menu under applications on the side click the + and choose "Recordset Query". Then stay in the Simple Mode and choose the database connection. Then choose the table containg the columns that you created for your register.php page. Keep the all radio button too. Then choose the database column you designated to be used for storing the username and proceed to:
                                                                                     Filter: "username"              =
                                                                                               "Session Variable"    "MM_Username"
                                                                                               "Sort"                       "None"
Step 3-
       In the Server Behaviors menu click +, User Authentication- Restrict Access to Page. Set "If access denied, go to: login.php". Then click + again, User Authentication- Log Out User.
Step 4- Insert a table on the page body. Then In the Bindings menu open the + sign of your created recordset. This will display all the columns in your database table. Place the cursur inside the page body table. Then highlight the "username" column from the Bindings menu and click the insert button. This will display the username. Repeat with all columns you wish to be displayed. Save this page.
(Remeber to edit your login.php page by setting "If login succeeds, go to: myprofile.php)
Step 5- "Synchronize Sitewide".
Step 6- Now test the function you just created by starting from the top:
Register as a new user. Once you have submitted your user information go to your login page and login with your new username and password. And if login succeeds, you will go to: myprofile.php. Once the myprofile.php page loads, your username and all the columns you inserted will be displayed. Try registering a second user and see the automatic profile page create.
The secrete in this process is the recordset query being:
                                                  Filter: "username column" = "SESSION VARIABLE" "MM_Username"
Setting up th recordset to be filtered by username tells the page to only display the records of the username that is logged in. If you were to keep the recordset query filter to "None" then every user records will be displayed on the page creating like a directory/phone book page.
To sum things up make sure to save the page as a .php first thing. Then create the recordset query. Then restrict access to the page. Then add the log out to the page. This must be done in that order before anything else.

Creating Descendant Welcome Pages

Hi: We're facing a conundrum that we'd like some help with. We're trying to figure out how Duke U. is able to create/link to descendant Welcome pages. To see what I mean, go to Duke's Business section, then go to the bottom of that page to the Groups section, then click on Duke Fuqua: it's another Welcome page with a Duke Fuqua School banner, and the breadcrumbs say Duke > Business > The Fuqua School of Business.
We can't figure out how to get this third-tier Welcome page; we can create Public Feature Page > Welcome Page > Course Page.
When we try Choose Page... from within a section, we only have the options to choose our Course templates, not our additional Welcome page templates.

Ben, thanks for the tip. We were able to, as a test, nest 8 levels of welcome pages. It could probably go deeper, but iTunes breadcrumbs will display only the top 5 levels. More than 3 doesn't make sense anyway.
Additionally, we discovered that we can programmatically add links to courses (available through GUI only for public feature page) to any welcome page, and place actual courses and welcome pages on the public feature page. This will give us a lot of flexibility in structuring the site and inter-connecting content.

I just installed Firefox and am stuck on the "Choose a profile" page because when I click "Create a profile" nothing happens.

Try to delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new profiles.ini file and a new default profile.

How to create an update page

Temporarily change your id1 field from a hidden field to a text field so you can see if it is being set correctly for the logged in user.

Edit User Profile How do I enalble user lo loggin to their own profile page and edit it?

I am trying to create a site for people to be able to post a profile with a picture and info and display it in a dynamic table.
I can create the form, a database and display the data on another page in a dynamic table all ok..... kind of.
I can create a user registration system with ADDT.
I can redirect them after registration to a post profile page, which has a form to upload details. I can then display those details on a user info page.
I would like to allow logged in users to be able to click on a link to their own profile page , which would show the same form that was filled out in the post profile page, but would be already populated with their previously entered information. I would like users to be able to edit the content of the form and update the information in the database and automatically delete delete any previously entered information ( only in the fields that have been edited)
How do I go about doing this?.... step by step?
I want to allow logged in user to view their own profile not every bodies.... how do I do that?
I have read on another post that to do something similar to this I should filter my database information using a session varialble MM_username that I think is created automatically after user logs in .... but I don;t know how to do this.... I really don;t understand is this the way I link my user to a page that only displays their info ? or is there another way?
I would also like to allow only people who have posted a profile to be able to edit profile ...... do I do that by
1. new user registers and is redirected to login page
2. user logs in and is redirected to an index page that has a post profile button and a edit profile button but only the POST button is active ( and links to a form to post info ) and the edit profile button is linked to a " You must post a profile first" page ( with a link back)
3 so user posts profile and is directed to an index page which has an edit profile button which is now linked to an edit profile page
Does that sound correct?

I have created the users page which submits to a members page and tell the user to edit biodata, profession, and hobbies. but on clicking I am really confused on how the id will be transfered from the members page to update biodata and the user updates the form which will show past records. this should also apply to the profession and hobbies
If I understand this right, you might want to consider providing a complete "userdata" section which comes with a Dynamic List and a Dynamic Form to have users add & update their data plus (via the Dynamic List) track all past records

I really can´t recommend this "pass user_id as URL variable" approach in this case, as URL variables are displayed in the browser´s address bar -- and this is absolutely insecure, because anyone could simply change the displayed "user_id" value, reload the form and hence edit data which belongs to a different user.
The only secure method is indeed to use ADDT´s session variable kt_login_id

How can you create a customized page to change user password?

Hello to all,
I would like to create a customized page for a user to change their password. We are using Portal version 3.0.9 on Windows NT/2000. Currently there is a page in portal where a user can change their password.
I tried linking to that page by copying the shortcut url and adding it as an html portlet. The problem is that we want to direct the users to a
page of our choosing when they click on the "cancel" and "ok" buttons. I read in the forums that there is a selfreg.cmd script.
I also read that there is some code that has been available.
Has anyone implemented a customized user password change page? Do you know of any links that might have steps to follow or
more informatioin?

* After you update the table, go to your account information link, and click on the change password link.
* Then copy the url that you see in your address line
* And if you want a change password link at the top of your portal page, just go to EDIT on your page, then edit the banner defaults. Then in the links add the Lable and the URL. The URL would be the URL you copied from the previous step.

But I am getting developer mode exception, so please guide me how i can set the default value for create and update page instead of using code in process request method in controller.

1) In case of create, you can default the value either in EOImpl or in AM while initializing the row:

Creating an HTML page with an embedded image in JAVA

is it possible to have a code in java that creates an HTML page,
reads an image file and embeds this to the HTML page?
can anyone give me a sample code? =)

Just tried this out, and it doesn't do what I was hoping: embed the image into the HTML document as a byte stream, so that the HTML document will display the image, without a seperate file.

Something wrong with the Profile page of all users in OIM

Hi All,
I am not sure what is happening but every time I login with some user id and password in to the OIM and click on Profile for the user in the Self Service Console, I get this error thrown:
java.lang.NullPointerException
on the UI. Also in the server diagnostic logs this is the entry:

This occurs for all users. Even xelsysadm. Please help me resolve this issue. Its rather urgent. More over there is no concrete and specific error shown in the logs so i am totally confused. And this error started occurring after I had changed some attributes through the administration and then mapped these attributes to RequestDataSet through MDS. Those pages though work fine. Maybe the Profile page still has some attribute that I have deleted in administration page or something. Not sure. In fact unable to find any specific data set for the profile page in the MDS. I can only see the Request, Create User, Modify user and other such datasets. If anyone knows the data set which profile page uses, then please do reply. Any help is hugely appreciated.

Hi,
Well ya it is problematic for us since no user can access his Profile page and hence has no way to see his own details in the OIM. Not even xelsysadm user. Only xelsysadm and other administrators can view other users and their own profile but that is through the Administration console and not through self service since clicking on Profile tab in self service simply throws this error. Also can you suggest some good debugger for the same?
