Creating Sample XML data to view Reports

Hi All,
I have the following:
RTF Report Templates
XML definition files - i.e. format
<parameters> parameter names = .... </parameters>
<dataQuery> Sql statement in here </dataQuery>
<dataStructure> element names... </dataStructure>
and translated xliff files for each reports.
What I want is to review each report to see what it looks like translated but to do this I need some sample xml data to populate the report (I dont have access to a live build).
Can anyone tell how I can create the sample xml data so I can review these reports. I have installed the BIP Reports server but have not been able to find a way of completing this.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hello David
I refered your other posts on xsl fo style sheets for Purchase Orders.
Sorry for intervening you here..
I need some help in getting xml tags for PO releases.
When I refer metalink they gave me the following for Std PO.
Create a new Standard Purchase Order and DO NOT approve it. Let it be in Incomplete status. Go to
concurrent requests and run the 'PO Output for Communication' concurrent
program will the following parameters:
Print Selection: All
Purchase Order Number From: The PO # you just created
To: The PO # you just created
Test: Debug
May I know for PO releases what are additional parameters.I tried to enter release numbers in addition to the above.Bit it did not work,..
I am having issue in getting buyer contact phone for PO releases.So I am trying to see if the work_tele_phone is available for Po releases xml tags.
Can you please advise

• Creating sample XML file from Oracle Reports

I did a search and could not find a good answer - hopefully this is not a dumb question.
We are getting around to evaluating this tool, and I have looked at the whitepapers/user guides. I viewed the flash demo on how to build a template using the add-in. All of this seems really easy to do once you have the XML file generated.
We have a custom report that outputted to PDF. Its a very simple report, so I went ahead and switch the output type to XML. When I go to view the file through the View Output button, it gives me an error about not being able to view it - the error says it cannot display the XML data with the current style sheet - gives a line number for the temporary file and thats about it.
Question is this - should I be able to see the XML file through concurrent manager, or do I physically have to go the ouput directory and grab the file? I understand the whole process of hooking up a template to a concurrent program once I create it, but I figure having the data would make creating the template easier. Sort of a chicken and the egg things.
Thanks!

That sounds like a browser issue.
once you flip the output to XML the 'Output' file from the concurrent manager will now be XML, try doing a save as rather than opening directly or use Tools>Copy file.

• Spry Tables and Xml Data Sets viewed in IE7

Has anyone ever run into a problem with Spry Tables and Xml
Data Sets viewed in IE7? Work fine in IE6 and Firefox, but get the
error "exception caught while loading feed.xml: [object Error]" in
IE 7. Any ideas?
Attached is the xml I'm using.
Thanks

I came looking for the answer to this question. I could not
find an answer. Eventually I found it the answer that worked for
me, a graphic designer with not much experience in xml.
The following url provided an errata file in PDF format:
www.peachpit.com/dwcs3cib
which includes the following addendum to the incomplete
instructions in the book i was using to learn about spry:
"If Internet Explorer 7 is your primary browser, you'll nee
to take some extra steps to view spry dynamic content locally.
First, your site must be within the local server webroot; be sure
your Lessons folder is stored within the Inetpub>wwwroot folder.
Next, double-click the site name in the files panel to open the
Site Definition dialogue. Click the Testing Server category; from
the Access List choose Local/Network. Click Okay to close the Site
Definition dialogue. Now, when you preview your page with Internet
Explorer, your local Web server (localhost) serves the page as
designed."
Horray for me! Now i can move on from here and actually get
some work done!

• Create calendar linking dates to a report

I would like to create a calendar with HREF links to a report. The calendar date is a link that you can click to pass the date to the report. The report will select average of a data column on that date and displays it, that's all. How do I do all the parameter passing....etc and create a report that takes a parameter.
I looked at the Apex documentation and I studied the HTML links HREF tags in the Sample Application's "Orders" calendar page but I couldn't find documentation on what the parameters do : APPS ID, SESSION.....etc ??

Hi,
Your code seems to be fine. Looks like there is some problem with your report. Are you able to run the report
independantly?
Please try a simple one with department like this. It works fine for me.
Declare
mdeptno NUMBER;
Rep_Url Varchar2(2000);
begin
mdeptno := p_session.get_value_as_number(
p_block_name=> 'DEFAULT', p_attribute_name=> 'A_DEPTNO');
Rep_Url :=
'http://toolsweb.us.oracle.com:2000/pls/mb/MYBUGS_DEMO.NEW_TEST_RPT.show?p_arg_names=department&p_arg_values='||mdeptno;
MYBUGS.wwa_app_module.set_target(Rep_url,'CALL');
end;
This code I have entered in the success section of the form.
If even this does not work, then there is a problem in your build.

• URGENT ! Is it possible to create a xml data control description file

We are encountering serious problem when generating data control against java bean build from java classes generated with xml top link mapping.
As workaround we have created a new xml schema that generate the java classes in a way data control may be generated correctly but we have to declare manually each class for java.util.list attribute that are not types by top link.
Unfortunately some classes seem not to described by a data control xml files for a reason we cannot understand because others similar classes are correctly described.
To gain time - we have to finish our development -we would force de data control structure by manually adding class data control definition file that are missing.
Just adding the file in the pasckage is not sufficient.
What do we have to update to make this file active ?

Solved my problem by referencing the parent class correctly so the child class xml definition was created by the data control wizard and editable in the structure window.

• Problem creating nested xml data using XSQLServlet

Hi,
This is sort of a sql question.
I'm trying to create a nexted xml data file.
The data in a rows format can be had using the
following query...
SELECT username, portlet_name, count(instance_name) as
INSTANCE_COUNT
FROM portlet_user_subscriptions
GROUP BY username, portlet_name
to get is back in a hierrachical format, I tried the
following...
SELECT distinct(username) as USERNAME,
CURSOR (
SELECT portlet_name, count(instance_name) as
NUM_INSTANCES
FROM portlet_user_subscriptions T2
WHERE T2.username=USERNAME
GROUP BY portlet_name ) AS PORTLETS
FROM portlet_user_subscriptions T1
But, that is running the CURSOE for every username in the
other loop when it should be doing it only for distinct
usernames.
What am I doing wrong here...
cheers,
Vijay

How you store the data in the database?
Basically, you can query the database with XSQL(<xsql:query/>)
to get the output in XML. Then you can use XSLT to transform it
to the format you want.

...

• Pushing xml data as a report source at runtime

Hi,
I am trying to change the datasource of a report originaly pointing on a local xml file by putting another xml data directly in the java code calling the report.
In order to do that, I use the setDataSource(IXMLDataSet arg0, String arg1, String arg2) method which seems to be the right thing to do, but i get an error : "com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKLogonException: Echec de la connexion.---- Error code:-2147217393 Error code name:dbLogonFailed"
Here is the relevant part of the code :
IXMLDataSet DS = new XMLDataSet();
IByteArray xmlArray = new ByteArray();
IByteArray xmlSchemaArray = new ByteArray();
xmlArray.fromString(XMLData);
xmlSchemaArray.fromString(XMLDataSchema);
DS.setXMLData(xmlArray);
DS.setXMLSchema(xmlSchemaArray);
String tableAlias = reportClientDoc.getDatabaseController().getDatabase().getTables().getTable(0).getAlias();
reportClientDoc.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(DS, tableAlias, "");
The error happens on the setDataSource line.
I have searched on the net for that kind of error with xml datasource, but I didn't find anything. Actually i don't get why the report need logon information to read an xml stream.
Another possibility is maybe the fact that the IByteArray strips XML caracters from the original string.
The last possible thing is maybe that in the 11.8 javadoc, the SetDataSource() method taking IXMLDataSet don't exist, and has been replaced by a method taking collections.
If anybody has ideas on this problem, please tell me.
Thank you,
Guillaume

• What application should i use to create the xml data as the input data for XFA template

HI,
I need to generate pdf or html document form from existing XDP with the given xml formatted data set. We usually use word to generate content for those XFA template, as the data should be in xml format content in word document should be able to convert into xml document that is compatible with XFA template. I want to know if there is any tool to conver word doument content to xml format that is compatible with XFA template or has adobe given their own tool to create content that comply with XFA template? . Also i want to know if i can do above mention functionality jaut with adobe forms if not what are the other services that i should use. Please give me the prices of adobe forms and any other tool that i should use. Thank you

XFA is just the definition of the form template. Once you have an XFA based template, you can merge any XML you want.
The trick is do the appropriate binding so the data from the XML goes in the right fields on your form. This binding is done using LiveCycle Designer.

• New ODI User having trouble creating an XML Data Source...

How's everyone doing? I'm new to the Oracle Data Integrator software. My goal is to take an XML message, do a bunch of mappings/constraints/etc. and integrate the appropriate data into an Oracle database. Seems like ODI is good for the job, but I'm running into some issues setting up the actual XML source file.
I followed this guide: [ODI XML to Database Transformation|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/fusion_middleware/ODI/ODIXML_to_DB_Transform/ODIXML_to_DB_Transform.htm], which was helpful, but since it used example XML files it did not go into how to use your own custom XML file.
Let me start off by sharing the XML file I'm attempting to import:

<Money xmlns="http://xxxxx.oracle.com/schema/Money"
xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xsi:schemaLocation="http://xxxxx.oracle.com/schema/Money file:/C:/OraHome_1/oracledi/demo/xml/Money.xsd">
<MoneyID>MoneyID0</MoneyID>
<ContractID>ContractID0</ContractID>
<EffectiveDate>2006-05-04T18:13:51.0Z</EffectiveDate>
<MessageDate>2006-05-04T18:13:51.0Z</MessageDate>
<ReversalIndicator>false</ReversalIndicator>
<PriorMoneyID>PriorMoneyID0</PriorMoneyID>
<Amount>0</Amount>
<MoneyType>0</MoneyType>
<ExchangeDetails>
<CostBasis>0</CostBasis>
<ExchangeType>0</ExchangeType>
<MEC>false</MEC>
<LoanAmount>0</LoanAmount>
</ExchangeDetails>
</Money>Pretty straightforward I'd say. Note that the XSD file it references DOES exist in that directory, so everything should be fine. So I go into Topology, select the "Physical Architecture" tab, right click "XML", click "Insert Data Server". I name my file "XML_MONEY", select the JDBC tab, and fill in the following fields:
JDBC Driver: com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.SnpsXmlDriver
JDBC Url: jdbc:snps:xml?f=../demo/xml/Money1.xml
When I hit "Test", it gives me this annoying message:
java.sql.SQLException: Could not generate the DTD because the file could not be created. Verify that you have write permission in the directory.
I have no idea why. I definitely have permissions to write to that directory.
I played around some more, and removed the junk at the top of the XML file, leaving the file with JUST XML tags. Now I get this error:
java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 1
What does this mean? I'm confused why this would be happening, because I a couple of days ago when I was playing around with a dummy XML file (with just tags) it connected just fine.
If anyone can lend a hand I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm probably missing something stupid, so feel free to yell at me.
Thanks!!

hi , i will try to help u out....lets take a simple example
create your own xml for example

<ROWSET>
<ROW>
<ENAME>SCOTT</ENAME>
<SAL>15000</SAL>
<LOC>INDIA</LOC>
</ROW>
<ROW>
<ENAME>ROCK</ENAME>
<SAL>25000</SAL>
<LOC>USA</LOC>
</ROW>
</ROWSET>
After that go to Topology manager create a data server in xml technology for example "EMPLOYEE"
JDBC DRIVER : com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.SnpsXmlDriver
JDBC URL : jdbc:snps:xml?f=C:/EMP.xml&s=EMP01
Test it you will get Successful connection message.
After getting this message apply the settings.Physical Schema window will pop up there give Schema as EMP01,Work Schema as EMP01 then in the context tab
create a context and give the logical schema name it can be any name..here i am giving the my logical schema name as EMP01.Apply the changes.
Create a model
1.In Definition tab give the model name
select Technology as XML
Logical Schema as EMP01
2.In the Reverse tab select the context which u have created in the topology manager
3.In the Selective Reverse tab reverse all the tables.
in the model you will be getting 2 datastores ROWSET,ROW
Create an Interface
Drag the ROW datastore into source
I have crated EMP_TEST table in my oracle database Ename,Sal,Loc as columns and reversed it so that i can use EMP_TEST table as my target table
Drag the EMP_TEST table in the Target datastore map the columns
select IKM as SQL toSQL Append execute the interface the data in the xml will be loaded in to EMP_TEST table.

Hope this helps u
Thanks,
praneeth.

• Is it possible to CREATE an XML data with Smart Forms??

Hello at all,
i have an Smart Form Formular, which contains all information about a customer.
My question is, if i want to send this Formular to another System, can I send this as a XML File or something else???
I have no idea, how i can send my smart forms formular to another System.
With kind regards.
ETN

I guess you want to send "spools" in XML format, not the definition of smart forms. So, the XML for Smart Forms is called XSF: read [SDN article - SAP SMART FORMS XSF - XML OUTPUT FOR SMART FORMS|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/0b6bc290-0201-0010-5b87-a0e7c7eb55d0] and [sap library - smart forms - output in XSF format|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/a5/28d3b6d26211d4b646006094192fe3/frameset.htm]

• Compiling Error While Viewing XML Data in Word

I received the following message, "Compile error in hidden module: Module_starter" while trying to load sample xml data to view within MS Word while using BI Publisher. Any ideas of what causes this and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
G. Wright

Getting this error as well.
I've read the announcement from Tim, and also the Metalink article: Note:457235.1
However, our desktops at work are locked down to such an extent that I don't have an 'all programs' entry on my start menu.
I tried what I thought might be the 'Template Builder for Word Language' executable but that also gave me an error (changeUILang.exe).
Error is: Runtime error '9'. Subscript out of range.
Could someone please confirm what the shortcut:
"All Programs --> Oracle BI Publisher Desktop --> Template Builder for Word Language "
actually points to.
As to the other option (uninstalling the security patch) this is just a non-starter where I work.
Thanks for your help,

• Is it possible to use an XML Data Template to create a report in APEX?

Hi,
I have created an XML Data Template in BI Publisher passing one parameter and running two queries, then created an RTF Document Template to present the data.
I can create a nice report in BI Publisher using the two elements. I have used RTF Document Templates to publish reports in APEX but the data comes from a Report region running a single query.
I would like to run a report based in this kind of XML Data Template, in order to use several children queries related to a parent query. Is it possible to do it in APEX, or you have to use BI Publisher?

Hi,
I have the similar question. I used data templates in BI Publisher but now I want to use the same data template in Apex to print some reports.
I tried to some examples but these were only using report queries. I also tried with the Web Service but this didn't work for me either maybe because I didn't
used it in the right way. When I used the WS I received the binary of the report so the WS worked it was just the how and where to use it that didn't work for me.
Now this older entry is BUMPED maybe we find a solution for our problem this way.

• Different methods of creating an XML Publisher report

Hi All,
Can anyone please advice me on different methods of creating an XML Publisher report.
The method which we us is as follows -
1. Create an RDF file and upload the same in the /REPORTS/US path.
2. create a concurrent program, give output as XML.
3. Create a data definition, but here we do not upload any data definition.
4. Create a template and upload the RTF template.
But I have heard that there is a method wherein we do not have to create the RDF and simply adding the query to the XML file works.
But in that case do we upload anything in tht Data defition also ?
Can anyone please provide me any link or some place where I can read about different methods to create an XML report without the use of an RDF.
Regards,
Shruti

Hi Shruti,
There is a method where we need not to create RDF as data defination. You need to write a xml file which we upload as data defination. The short name for this data defination used as short name as concurrent program having executable XDODTEXE.
Sample XML data template :

<dataTemplate name="EmpData" description="Employee Details" version="1.0">
<dataQuery>
<sqlStatement name="Q1">
select business_group_id, business_group_name
from hrfv_business_groups
where date_to is null
and business_group_id not in (0, 82)
order by business_group_id
</sqlStatement>
<sqlStatement name="Q2">
select employee_number,
title ,
full_name,
sex ,
date_of_birth,
email_address
from per_all_people_f
where business_group_id = :business_group_id
and current_employee_flag ='Y'
and trunc(sysdate) between effective_start_date and effective_end_date
and rownum<11
</sqlStatement>
</dataQuery>
<dataStructure>
<group name="G_BG" source="Q1">
<element name="BusinessGroupId" value ="business_group_id"/>
<element name="BusinessGroupName" value ="business_group_name"/>
<group name="G_EMP" source="Q2">
<element name="EmpNumber" value ="employee_number"/>
<element name="Title" value ="title"/>
<element name="FullName" value ="full_name"/>
<element name="Sex" value ="sex"/>
<element name="DateOfBirth" value ="date_of_birth"/>
<element name="EmailAddress" value ="email_address"/>
</group>
</group>
</dataStructure>
</dataTemplate>
This data template generates xml data which prints output on rtf template.
Hope this will help. Let me know for more info.

• PDF Report from XML Data

Hi,
I'm working on one BI report for which XML data has been provided.This report needs to get AP check details (XML Data) and print them on checks
Based on xml data I'm trying to create RTF layout from BI desktop MS word add in
I'm loading xml data using insert field option pulling all required fields into RTF layout.
Here I faced Few issues,
1) in xml data I've more than one column with the same name for ex :

<Value>35</Value>
again I'm having another column with the same name.Though I'm pulling required column it's showing different value
2) Another issue is I'm pulling values under particular node it's not displaying right value
3)How to create group or repeating groups based on XML data for ex: checks needed to be printed based on supplier no or check no how to set group by for this ?
4) Right now my layout displays only one record eventhough more than one record is there in xml data?.
Thanks,

• Master Detail XML data in reports

Hello,
Can some one show a simple way of creating a XML data like below? I am trying to generate a PO report in PDF. the PDF document can print multiple POs with lines.

<ROWSET>
<ROW>
<PO_HEADER>
<PONUMBER>123</PONUMBER>
<POLINES>

BOLT

<QTY>1 </QTY>
<PRICE> 123</PRICE>
</POLINES>
<PO_HEADER>
<PO_HEADER>
<PONUMBER>222</PONUMBER>
<POLINES>

BOLT

<QTY>2 </QTY>
<PRICE> 2</PRICE>
</POLINES>
<PO_HEADER>
</ROW>
</ROWSET>
looks like I need to add multiple queries to the reports
Apex-->Application-->Shared Componets --> Report Queries -- Create New
and I can get result in <ROWSET1> <ROWSET2> etc.. I actually need the xml data in above format. Is it possible?

<ROWSET>
<ROW>
<UNAME></UNAME>
<USER_INFO></USER_INFO>
</ROW>
</ROWSET>
