Creating variable names?

hi all
is it possible to dynamically create variable names so you can keep track of them?
I have to generate the following code a number of times depending on a number the user has input. So ideally Id like to create
variables whose names i can keep track of for later reuse
eg horHatch1, horHatch2.... without hardcoding them in. is this possible?? are there any better ways of accomplishing this task?
this code just draws and adds labels on an x axis.
thanks
Line2D.Double horHatch1 = new Line2D.Double(horAxis.getP1().getX() + horInterval,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getY() - HatchLength/ 2,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getX() + horInterval,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getY() + HatchLength/2);
    graphics.draw(horHatch1);

hi
i used the following code
but i need to convert Line"d to Line2d.Double as explained below
for(int i=1; i<x+1; i++)
Line2D.Double horHatch1 = new Line2D.Double(horAxis.getP1().getX() + horInterval*i,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getY() - HatchLength/ 2,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getX() + horInterval*i,
                                                horAxis.getP1().getY() + HatchLength/2);
    graphics.draw(horHatch1);
     v.addElement(horHatch1);
Add text to hatches
    decorateVerticalLine(graphics, horHatch1, "M");
    decorateVerticalLine(graphics, horHatch2, "T");
decorateVerticalLine(graphics, (Line2D)v.elementAt(i), names.elementAt(nColumn).toString());
//compiler complains that (Line2D)v.elementAt(i) is not of type java.awt.geom.Line2D.Double  but of   java.awt.geom.Line2Di tried :
horizontalAxisTicks[i] =((Double)(Line2D)v.elementAt(i)).doubleValue()).getX1();
but this isnt correct i dont think.
thanks

  • Dynamically creating variable names in javascript

    Hi.
    I have to create variable names dynamically in JavaScript.
    My JSP file accesses information from Database and forms a String corresponding to the information received.
    This String is passed to a JAvaScript function that should CREATE a variable with that NAME.
    For Ex:
    My database access resulted in a single row...
    id name sal
    34 John Smith 38000
    the resulting VARIABLE NAME should be Menu34. 34 comes from the database result.
    Is there any function to dynamically create a variable name in JavaScript?
    Thanks in advance.

    The JSP is printing the contents of an HTML page, and Javascript code can be part of that output...
    So you would just write out the stuff, something like this....
    <script>
    <% while(rs.hasNext()) { %>
    var Menu<%= rs.getInt("id") %> = '<%= rs.getString("name") %>';
    <% } %>
    </script>
    In the browser, it'll just look like another long list of Javascript variables.

  • Creating variable names using a counter

    Hi all
    I have a snippet of code that I am trying to work in Flash 6,
    it is attached to this post. Inside the for loop I am trying to
    define the class variable instance names dynamically using the 'i'
    counter encapsulated within the eval function. Is there anyway I
    can add dynamically named variables or am I just kidding myself.

    I think KGlad meant to post the following, probably
    accidentally did italics in bbcode
    import ButtonClass;
    var a:Array= new Array("alonso_btn", "gerrard_btn");
    for (var i = 0; i < a.length; i++) {
    this[a[ i ] = new ButtonClass();

  • How do I create a variable name on the fly?

    Hi,
    If I have a String containing a value, how do I create a variable name using that value during program execution? That is if I have
    String fred = "newvar";
    How do I then create a new String with the name "newvar" (using the contents of fred)? I will never know what the content of fred is until this point. What I'd like to be able to do is something like
    String fred.subString(0) = "a new value";
    Obviously this won't work but if it did the statement would evaluate to something like
    String newvar = "a new value";
    Appreciate any help you can give,
    Dave.

    Here u go:
       private JCheckBox AddCheckBox( String strText, int nTextID )
          JCheckBox checkbox = null;
          Class checkboxDefinition;
          Class[] stringArgsClass = new Class[] {String.class};
          Constructor stringArgsConstructor;
          Object[] stringArgs = null;
          String arg = "";
          arg = "CheckBox" + nTextID;
          String label = new String(arg);
          stringArgs = new Object[] {label};
          try
            checkboxDefinition = Class.forName("javax.swing.JCheckBox");
            stringArgsConstructor = checkboxDefinition.getConstructor(stringArgsClass);
            checkbox = (JCheckBox) createObject(stringArgsConstructor, stringArgs);
            checkbox.setName(label);
            checkbox.setText(strText);
            checkbox.setSize(new java.awt.Dimension(CQuestionBase.PAGEWIDTH, 21));
            checkbox.putClientProperty("1",new Integer(nTextID));
            checkbox.setVisible(true);
          catch (ClassNotFoundException e)
            System.out.println(e);
          catch (NoSuchMethodException e)
            System.out.println(e);
          return checkbox;
       }This code was based on an example I found about two years ago. You can use the same methodolgy to create objects of any kind. Again, look at java.lang.Reflect.

  • Creating dynamic variable names

    I know there has got to a way to do this but I am not finding anything on google. I want to create a dynamic variable name like name + i so when your in a loop the names come out name1, name2 and so on till however many you want. I have tried
    int name + i = 3;
    int name[i] = 3; // which obviously won't but I had to try
    int name{i} = 3;and I am out of ideas. Thanks for all your help.

    I'd suggest using variables named j or x when posting code which uses them as array indexes.
    [i] - is for italics formatting
    [u] - is for underlined formatting
    [code] is for class Example { ... } code formatting
    etc.

  • JSP : create variable dynamic variable name and get his value.

    //HI forums.sun.com !
    //What I want to do is above :
    //out.println("<td style=\"width: "+col_width_+h+" \">")
    //Variable Declaration
    String col_width_1 = "100px";
    String col_width_2 = "150px";
    //etc String col_width_N = "XXXpx";
    //loop
    for (int h = 0; h < hrecset.getRowCount(); h++)
    //some code
    //create the variable name (exemple : col_width_0 ) with the "loop counter name" to get the value
    out.println("<td style=\"width: "+col_width_+h+" \">")//Do you understand what i mean?
    //some code
    //Variable Declaration

    out.println("<td style=\"width: "+col_width_+h+" \">")//Do you understand what i mean?
    //some code

    I apologize
    1) Sure i understand it but i click on the "code" button after i inserted the text above but it doesn't worked now it do.
    2) Because the table element need to have the total width in the HTML table TAG equal to the addition of every HTML td TAG to be W3 conform
    because i have a lot of cell where i want to adjust the width.
    so here my solution
    <%
    //Variable für Breite
    String col_width_unit = "px"; // px, cm,
    Integer total_table_width = 0;
    String[] col_width=new String[3];
    col_width[0] =  "350";
    col_width[1] =  "75";
    col_width[2] =  "50";
    %>
    <table style="page-break-inside:avoid;width:<%=gesamt_table_width+col_width_unit%>;">
    <%
    for (int h = 0; h < hrecset.getRowCount(); h++)
    out.println("               <td id =\"cell"+h+"\" class=\"tdall\"  style=\"width:"+col_width[h]+col_width_unit+"\" >");
    %>
    </table>thank you very much

  • Creating on the fly dynamic named bind variable names.

    I have an application process which gets called by a Dynamic action and Javascript.
    Everything is working great however I'm using it to drive dynamic charts.
    I could use IF statements at the end of the application process to decide what BIND vairable to fill with the information the process has collected however I'd prefer just to create the BIND variable from the
    name of the submitted information.
    So I have an application level variable called WHICHCHART. this gets populated with text upon calling the application process...so let's say 'chart1' is what it gets filled with.
    What I"d like to have at the end of the application process is just a bind variable waiting called :chart_1.
    So no matter what the value of WHICHCHART it will create an on the fly a bind variable with the same name.

    Ok. I guess this question was more how do you do this..then OH NO there are not other ways to do this.
    So I have a page with a chart region. this chart will have 3 Y Axes which prohibits the use of the default XML.
    So..
    I have the following Javscript:
    function getdata(whichchart) {
      var get = new htmldb_Get(null,$x('pFlowId').value,'APPLICATION_PROCESS=VM_XML_GENERATION',0);
            get.add('WHICHCHART',whichchart);
            gReturn = get.get('XML');
      get = null;
    Which is called when the page loads by a dynamic action:
    getdata('production');
    When the javascript is called as you can see it fires off:
    declare
       chart_series_data VARCHAR(32767);
       type array_cols is varray(7) of varchar2(100);
       array array_cols := array_cols('VM_HOSTS_NUM','VM_NUMBER','VM_PHYS_MEM','VM_VIRT_MEM','VM_CPU_COUNT', 'VM_TOTAL_DISK','VM_PROVISIONED_DISK');
    BEGIN
    --IF :WHICHCHART IS NULL THEN
    --RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20001,'Chart variable not set');
    --END IF;
    chart_series_data := null;
    chart_series_data := '      <data>'||chr(10);
    chart_series_data := chart_series_data||  '        <series name="Hosts Number" type="Line" color="0x1D8BD1" >'||chr(10);
    for c1 in (SELECT VM_REPORT_DATE LABEL,VM_HOSTS_NUM from TABLE where VM_REPORT_DATE between add_months(SYSDATE,-24) and SYSDATE and lower(VM_DCNAME)=lower(:WHICHCHART) )
    loop
    chart_series_data := chart_series_data || '<point name="'||c1.LABEL||'" ';
    chart_series_data := chart_series_data || 'y="'||c1.VM_HOSTS_NUM||'"></point> '||chr(10);
    end loop;
    chart_series_data := chart_series_data|| '      </series>'||chr(10)||'</data>';
    :PROD_DATA := chart_series_data;
    END;
    The : production variable at the end of this I want to change the name of based on the value I'm sending of WHICHCHART from the javascript. I hope this is clearer now.
    AGAIN this is not really a need. It is a want to be able to create dynamic bind variable names going forward.
    Thanks

  • How to auto create a global variable with specific variable name in a global vi ?

    how to auto create a global variable with specific variable name in a global vi using lv ? Because i need to add a lot of global variable in this global vi. But you know, if  i manually add them , it will be a much time-costing work. So i want to use someway to auto generate ? Can i ?? Thanks a lot !

    Hi
    what aartjan is saying is the way for you. but you can develop an utility which will actually help you create global variables. To get the details on this just have a look at VI Scripting section on LAVA forum.
    But i would like you to suggest few things
    1. If your programs have so many global variables (Thats why u want utility) then you should take out some time to read about LabVIEW design patterns. I think if programmer follows these practicess he dont need a single global variable.
    2. Their are some other ways to achieve similar functionality as of global variables (Uninitialized Shift Registers, Single Element Qs and so on) but they are much faster than global variables.
    I am Attaching Whatever Resources i am having I will also attach the template of the design pattern i generaly use in short duration

  • Dynamically create variables and names

    Hi,
    I am dealing with some software that will send
    me string variables and their values. I have
    to process each variable it sends me to get
    its value. The problem is I dont know how many
    its going to send me in advance, so I cant
    hard code the varible names into my class.
    At run time I will get a int. value as to the
    number of variables. An array won't work and
    a vector wont work cause I need to process
    each variable by its name. I also know that
    each variable name will be some alpha characters
    followed by a number. For example:
    int 6
    test1
    test2
    test3
    test4
    test5
    test6
    The next time it could be 50 ...or 1 or any number....
    Is there anyway I can get my class to dynamically
    delcare String variables and their names?.......

    Just use some kind of collection. If you know the alpha characters at compiletime you can use an array - instead of test1 to test6 as in you example, you'd get test[0] to test[5]. (or test[1] to test[6] if you want the numbers to match - just create the array one bigger than needed and leave the [0] unused.) If you don''t know the alpha characters you can use a HashMap or some similar collection, and use the strings "test1", "test2" etc. as keys.
    You can also make your own class to handle this, for example by wrapping some code around an array to simplify access to your Strings.

  • Creating variables in Report Painter

    Hi ...
    I would like to know ... how do I create variable ? I know it is via T CODE GS11, but when run tht, in the next screen it pops up for variable ? What variable do I need to enter ? is this predelivered Eg : CE-PK, or can we create one ? Please advise
    Also, I would like to I have a requirement for a report whereby the format is like this .....
    SALES       CURR MONTH (06/2006)  LAST YEAR
    - Sales IT
    - Sales 1
    - Sales 2
    COGS
    - cogs 1
    - cogs 2
    - cogs 3
    COS
    - cos 1
    - cos 2
    - cos 3
    GROSS PROFIT
    Whereby, SALES = sales it + sales 1 + sales 2, COGS = cogs 1+cogs 2 + cogs 3, COS = cos 1+ cos 2+ cos 3. also GROSS PROFIT = SALES + COGS + COS
    The abpve report is inclusive of Cost Centre and Profit Centre, how acn I utilize the libraray in Report Pianter to create such report, is this possible in Report Painter whereby including Cost center and Profit Centre in one single report
    Pls assist me
    Nathan

    When you create your variable first enter the variable name. Second enter the reporting "table" to use. Third enter the "field'. Press enter. Next enter a default value for your field. Save you variable. It is now ready to use in your report painter.
    Using the PCA reporting tables gives you the profit center but not the cost center. You can only use one reporting table per report. you will need a cctr report for that.
    First create your own libray from GLPCT. Next create your report using your new library. The report painter can do the calculations that you have shown.
    You create a formula in the row or column to calculate your sub totals.
    pls assign points if helpful as a way to say thanks.

  • Same variable name causes major issues.....

    I would like to get some input and possible direction on the issue below... I am new to PL/SQL. Thanks in advance.....
    ..... The system is in the middle of processing a “For” step, i.e. a given “For” step is incomplete.
    ..... The script instructs the system to process a second “For” step with the same “for-loop variable” as the incomplete “For” step.
    When the above takes place, the system processes the second “For” step incorrectly. Instead of starting at the first value in the second “For” step’s list of values, the system begins in the middle of the value list.
    I need to change the current implementation so that if a "For" loop is encountered that has the same “loop variable” as a “For” loop already being executed, the “state” of the previous “For” step is discarded, and the state for the new “For” step is initialized to the first value in its list.
    -- Used for "for" steps
    TYPE for_list is table of varchar2(4000) index by binary_integer;
    TYPE for_loop_state is record (
    list for_list,
    next_index integer
    TYPE for_loops_list is table of for_loop_state index by steps.output_param%TYPE;
    all_for_loops for_loops_list;
    procedure for_step(list_string IN varchar2, ret_var_name IN varchar2, end_for_label IN varchar2) is
    state for_loop_state;
    end_idx number;
    list_value varchar2(4000);
    begin
    pkg_util.log('ret_var_name value after begin: ' || ret_var_name, 'I');
    -- get the current for list state, based on its output variable name
    if all_for_loops.exists(ret_var_name) then
    state := all_for_loops(ret_var_name);
    else
    state.next_index := 0;
    list_value := parse_next_param(list_string, 1, end_idx);
    -- end_idx is thrown away; for loops only have 1 input parameter (the list)
    state.list := get_for_list(list_value);
    all_for_loops(ret_var_name) := state;
    end if;
    if state.next_index < state.list.count then
    pkg_session_values.put(ret_var_name, state.list(state.next_index));
    all_for_loops(ret_var_name).next_index := state.next_index + 1;
    else
    all_for_loops.delete(ret_var_name);
    jump(end_for_label);
    end if;
    end;

    There is so much of your code hidden from view it is impossible to tell you anything other than perhaps suggest a methodology.
    Create a single variable with a known value and use dbms_output to view it as it steps through each piece of the puzzle. Determine when the value does something you don't want.

  • How to bind data from script created variable to embed element of XML schema (xsd) in "Data View"

    Hi, i have got another problem with livecycle designer scripting.
    I have got script line which is defining of string variable:
    var aaa = "this is my string";
    and i have got embed XML schema like this (it`s only short part of whole file):
    ... xs:element name="bbb" type="xs:string"/ ...
    After saving data to XML i would like to get "this is my string" as a value of my "bbb" XML element.
    To save this data i`m using submit button which is connect with submit.php file on my server.
    How to connect script created variable and embed XML schema element which is present on my "Data View" tab.
    Please help me a bit becouse i don`t know even where to search answer of it...
    Of course i know possibilities to create fake unvisible text field object and bind it with 'bbb' and than put "this.rawValue = aaa" to connect those two variables but i think that is not a good idea to solve it in that way. It`s too primitive

    i solve it, i should write this:
    xfa.datasets.data.bbb.value = aaa;

  • Is it possible to add a property using variable in variable name?

    I want to query for a list of virtual machines within a folder, then create a menu of the host names using forms.  Since the list of machines is subject to change, I want to build the list each time the script is run, rather than build off a static
    list.
    For each virtual machine I need to create the list of variables below:
    $hostnameX = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.checkbox
    $hostnameX.Location = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(10,20)
    $hostnameX.Size = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(100,20)
    $hostnameX.Checked = $true
    $hostnameX.Text = "Type"
    $hostnameX.Controls.Add($hostnameX)
    The location and size values need to be incremented but I think I can figure that part out.
    I can use New-Variable to generate the initial variable. But I receive errors using the same method to try to create a new property for the variable.
    $VMS = Get-Cluster MyCLUS | Get-vApp "My vApp" | Get-VM | Select Name,PowerState | Sort Name
    For ($i=0; $i -lt ($VMS.count); $i++)
    $VMS[$i].Name
    $VMGUEST = "$($VMS[$i].Name)" -replace("-","")
    New-Variable "CB$VMGUEST" "New-Object System.Windows.Forms.checkbox"
    New-Variable "CB$VMGUEST.Location" "New-Object System.Drawing.Size(10,20)"
    In the above, $CBVMGUEST1 =  New-Object System.Windows.Forms.checkbox which is what I want,  but $CBVMGUEST1.Location is not set.
    Is there way to add a property using a variable in the variable name?  Or any other suggestions on how to tackle this issue?

    Hi,
    maybe another approach is a bit easier.
    Use a hash-array like
    $CB = @{}
    $CB[$VMGUEST] = New-Object System.Windows.Forms....
    $CB[$VMGUEST].Location = New-Object System.Drawing....
    Mit freundlichen Grüßen Jens Kalski
    That's the correct answer.  Anytime you find yourself wanting to create variables named "Widget1", "Widget2", "Widget3", etc... it's a pretty clear indication that what you really need is a collection object of some sort.  That might be an array,
    a hashtable, or any other data structure for holding other objects, depending on your specific needs.

  • Error while using the variable name "VARIABLE" in variable substitution

    Hi Experts,
      I am using variable substitution to have my output filename set as a payload field value. It is working fine when I am using the variable name as fname, subs etc but channel goes in error when I am using the variable name as "VARIABLE". This is probably a reserved word but i would like to know where i can find a detailed documentation on this. Say things to note / restrictions while using variable substitution.
    This is the error in the channel:
    Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error during variable substitution: java.text.ParseException: Variable 'variable' not found in variable substitution table: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.configuration.DynamicConfigurationException: Error during variable substitution: java.text.ParseException: Variable 'variable' not found in variable substitution table
    Thanks,
    Diya

    Hi Zevik,
    Thanks for the reply. The output file is created correctly by merely changing the variable name to something else and hence the doubt.
    Below is the configuration:
    Variable Substituition
    VARIABLE    payload:interface_dummy,1,Recordset,1,Header,1,field1,1
    Filename schema : TEST_%VARIABLE%.txt
    Output xml structure:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <ns:interface_dummy xmlns:ns="http://training.eu.unilever.com">
    - <ns:Recordset xmlns:ns="http://training.eu.unilever.com">

      <field1>001</field1>
      <field2>001</field2>

      <field1>000000002</field1>
      <field2 />

    I thimk my configuration is correct as it is working correctly with the variable name change, However, maybe i missed something !

  • Problem with variable name in ZXRSRTOP include (virtual KF)

    Hi all,
    I am coding a routine to use a virtual key figure in the BEx.
    I have just a little problem with the name of a variable:
    as explained in the documentation, I created the variable with the prefix G_POS_, the name of the infocube and the name of the infoobject all together:
    DATA: G_POS_BC_ST_003_C_DIV__C_COMPAR   type i.
    The problem is that this variable name is longer than 30 characters, so the system doesn't accept it.
    Is there a workaround, other than changing the name of the infoobject (which is a navigational attribute)?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Loï

    Hello Marc,
    I understand that I have to use a concatenate function and a dynamic call of the variable with (variable) instruction, but i do not understand how to implement it.
    the infocube name is BC_ST_003
    the characterisdtic name is C_DIV__COMPAR
    So, in the include ZXRSRTOP the statement
    DATA : G_POS_BC_ST_003_C_DIV__COMPAR
    does not work due a length problem (see first post)
    But in the same include the statement
    +DATA: l_global_name type c.
    concatenate 'GPOS' 'BC_ST_003' 'C_DIV__C_COMPAR' into l_global_name separated by '_'.+
