Creative Drivers causing non-stop Blue Screens

Hey Everyone,
I have a very serious problem with my Creative drivers, which is driving me absolutely crazy.
I have owned a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook for quite some time and it has been working just fine in my laptop (I'm aware that this is the SoundBlaster forum, not the PCMCIA forum, however, since this is a driver-issue, I felt that this may be the better place to ask for help). I stopped using the card for about half a year and now that I want to use it again, the drivers keep blue screening my system!
I'm pretty clueless what more I can try to make that thing work again. I've uninstalled the drivers I had on my computer and tried every single version of the drivers available from the Creative website. Somewhere in the middle of the installation process, right after the drivers were copied and the card is being initialized, the system will hang without a bluescreen and without responding to Ctrl+Alt+Del or Num Lock. So in order to prevent that from happening, I started removing the sound card from my system, right after the installer started copying the drivers. That way, at least the installation process could finish successfully. However, after restarting my system, inserting the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, emupia2k.sys would cause an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop error. As I said, this happens with ALL of the drivers available from the Creative website (v2.09.006 from 0/09/06; v2.2.0002 from 03/6/07 and v2.8.000 from 03/23/09).
Out of curiosity, I then tried daniel_k's hacked drivers from the forum. These installed fine and without crashing my system during the installation process, however, they did still crash my systemwhen sound was playing back. You could forsee an impending crash by the sound starting to get messed up, sounding digital, choppy and roboty. The bluescreen that would appear was usually caused by commonfx.sys
Now I have completely given up on Creative dirvers and started using the open source drivers from the kX project. Problem with these drivers is that they do not support the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook fully, but at least my sound card works without causing my system to bluescreen.
My plea to the community: Please give me some kind of idea what I can do to get that card working smoothly again. The Creative drivers have never been very reliable on my system, but this is just rediculous. I can't stick to the kX project drivers, since I need SPDIF output, which doesn't seem to work with those drivers.
Here is what I have already tried to fix the issue:
- Uninstalled all traces of Creative drivers with Revo Uninstaller (using the built-in scan for leftovers)
- Used Driver Sweeper .5.5 from Guru3D to delete leftover sys files and other Creative components - http://bit.ly/AECNY
- Used Device Remover to delete references to the old Creative hardware from the registry - http://bit.ly/jingo
- Scanned the registry from anything containing "Creative" or "ct" and deleted it, if I deemed it safe
- Searched my hard dri'ves for anything referencing ct or Creative and deleted it.
- Scanned my registry with CCleaner
- Used the Creative Setup tool included in some of the older versions of the Creative drivers and used the driver removal feature that it has, to remove the drivers. Curiously, the tool would keep on detecting the driver, even after having removed it and performing a restart.
My System:
I run Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, with Service Pack 3 and all updates since then. My BIOS is the latest there is (from some time in 2007) and my PCMCIA controller is a Toshiba ToPIC00. I haven't updated my BIOS, the drivers for the CardBus controller or for my chipset in the half year that I did not use the sound card in.
?Creative Developers: If you like, I can crash my system a couple more times with your drivers, and send you a full kernel memory dump! Those things are about 200 megs each, so be sure to tell me the location of an FTP server or similar, that I could use.
Thanks for all your help

  • Lightroom 4.1 (3, 4 or any version) causes computer to blue screen and crash

Recently bought the new Lightroom 4.1 in an attempt to fix this issue, which had been occuring off and on for some time.  I have major difficulties with importing and/or rendering previews or editing Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 5D Mark III images using Lightroom.  The computer abruptly blue screens, then reboots.  The blue screen code is 124.  I'll attach a record of minidumps (all caused by editing or importing images using LR4.)
Not sure if that can be viewed, but please ask so I can send you the dump file for inspection if necessary.  It essentially shows the Bug Check Code as 0x00000124, caused by address ntoskrnl.exe+4b09bc.

I have an 850W PSU.  Running Windows 7 Ultimate on a 150GB SSD.
I find this very frustrating because it's a PC that I built and that can do any complex task--anything from using PS CS4 with multiple layers, playing top-end games like Crysis 2 and Diablo 3 with graphics on full.  Other than this RAW development issue, the computer is flawless and VERY fast.  Anyone have any ideas, or see a hole in the system specs?
    Cheers,
    _E

The video driver is up to date, and I would assume compliant with LR4.
My BIOS version is default, and I tried installing new BIOS updates but ran into troubles.  The Asus motherboard uses ATI Catalyst to introduce new system updates, but it fries my PC (assuredly a conflict with my nVidia card) making the rig run even slower.  In fact, using the ATI Catalyst disc (the one that came with my mobo) crashed once I had tried to install any motherboard utilities!  I've gone through the BIOS configuration and turned off all of this mobo's overclocking features and set everything to default.
No overclocking going on whatsoever--not once, and never will.
Reseated the memory and tested the memory with no negative feedback.
The PSU is relatively new and of high quality.  I replaced an old PSU because of exactly what you mentioned above.  It's a Corsair GS800 (not 850W, 800W).
I'm at the point right now where I suspect the motherboard is failing me somehow.  I only bought it because I was in a rush and would have normally opted fro a "non-overclocking-enthusiast's" board.  Perhaps there's a way of updating BIOS without utilizing the disc (the ATI Catalyst, more to the point?)
The PC is new in a sense.  I seem to recall a point where LR3 worked with fewer crashes.  I built the thing April 2011.  Just reinstalled Windows 7 and all the software again.

Well that made things worse, sometime during reinstall, system locked up, I looked at the log during install & it had been locked up about 3 hours and now I have nothing. no systems files, using Target( firewire cable) disc with my macbook, I can see I have previous system folder & a folder that say system. but Install disc does not see OS.

  • System Does not Load, Fans Spins Non Stop, Blank Screen.

So i have a Quad Core 3Ghz with the ATI Radeon X1900 512MB ram.
I also have 2GB of internal ram and 2 more purchased 3rd party, totally of 4GB.
I have had my computer for about 3 months now i am guessing since the first week it came out. About 2 weeks ago i noticed my monitor would go out, i thought it was the monitor. Up until it started when i would start up the computer. The Fans inside would non stop spin and the OS would not Load up the Screen was still Black and not turning on but the power light was on and fans spinning. it would do this to a few other monitors as well. I did apples Hardware Test, 5 times, the extended one and nothing found, no errors. it does it with Apples Ram that i got and with just the 3rd party ram as well with out the apple ram.
I dont know if its the Graphics card because it seems to be cutting off the computer all together. when i am using it sometimes it will just go out on me. the computer light will be on like its on but the screen is out. i also was in mid chat with friends and the would not get my message hoping it was the Graphics card but it seems like it shuts down the whole system.
So yes, i have to restart it about 6 or 7 times for it to get past that Fan Spinning Non Stop stage then it clicks into gear and works. Every morning it works like that. same routine for over a week now.
Any clue as to what it would be? like the mother board or Power supply, i dont know how the power supply would stop the OS from loading and fans spinning but i am at a loss?

Mac Pro came out in August '06. This is the 8-core model?
The ATI Radeon can 'suffocate' if the air intakes on the cooling chamber of the graphics card become clogged with dust and unable to cool the card down. Needs to be cleaned from time to time.
Did you do an SMC Reset?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123
Have you been using Hardware Monitor / Temperature Monitor to check on the temperatures of RAM, drives, cpu, etc?
Regular maintenance with Disk Utility and Disk Warrior to repair the drive?
    An emergency boot drive?
when you boot from the DVD does it work normal? have you repaired the boot drive from DVD (lacking an emergency boot drive)? How about a clean install on another drive?
Some people use v. 2.1 of smcFanControl to force the fans to run slightly higher to insure that RAM and video card don't overheat.
How is the wall current and circuit? what else shares that circuit? are you on a UPS? (I wouldn't be without one and Mac Pro needs 1200VA.

  • What would cause a prolonged blue screen during start up?

I have an iMac desktop.  Recently I've had trouble with a prolonged blue screen during start up (approx. 10 mins) before it finally takes me to the login screen.  Any ideas why this is happening?

  • IBook G4 non-stop random screen icons flashing

My iBook G4 has a mind of its own on start-up or soon after. Flashing sun symbol, password box automatically types continuously, and or menu items flash one by one continuously. Is this a keyboard issue?
It has an old operating system which I want to keep so I can use old software.
Please help, I love this iBook!

There are a few archives of specifications that share some information on
the basic computer in its day, and any (then) upgrade options...
Everymac.com is one of several online sources of vintage information:
    •iBook G4/1.33 12-Inch (Mid-2005 - Op) 1.33 GHz PowerPC 7447a (G4)
    •iBook G4/1.42 14-Inch (Mid-2005 - Op) 1.42 GHz PowerPC 7447a (G4)
Also, you could download a database application of Apple product specs
by the name MacTracker from their site: http://mactracker.ca for offline use.
Since my iBook G4 is still in fairly good shape (considering now, to revert
the OS X to its shipped version, Tiger 10.4, from Leopard 10.5.8) the main
issue may be to find a good replacement battery. The 14-inch model does
use a larger capacity battery than the 12-inch model. OWC may have one
in stock for that spec model. see macsales or an example of this item here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple_laptop/batteries/iBook_G4_14
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Lost sound devices now blue screen of death when updating creative drivers.

I have an XPS with windows 7, dont k now what the sound card is, I have factory installed software for Creative X something extreme, and Realtex.
Now I had been trying to get sound via an optical cable to an AV amp with no success. I had tried disabling and re enabling sound devices, then I tried updating the drivers, realtex was ok but the Creative drivers caused the blue screen of death with the message IRQL Not less or equal"
I tried all options in device manager including rollback, every time I try anything I get that blue screen of death, whats more, in "Sounds" in the control panel, I have lost two of my sound device options that do not appear even with "show hidden devices" so I now have no sound.

    Hi Nambo,
Device manager should list the exact hardware in your desktop. But normally, integrated audio jacks will appear on the same backplane as other motherboard components, while an add-on card will have its jacks in an expansion slot. So you should know whether you have integrated or add-on.

  • Adding queue into a DAQ loop might cause blue screen

    Hi
I am trying to use VISA to fetch data from a USB port. The data is put into a queue which is decoded in another thread. The pic below shows how my vi looks like.
The problem is that after around 15mins of execution the windows got blue screen. The error message has to do with usbser.sys.
I was at first suspicious of the USB virtual COM port's driver. However after I eliminate the queue part of this vi the blue screen problem is gone. The modified vi is like this:
It seems that this queue is actually causing the pc blue screen problem.
I have tried it with several different pcs and got the same result. I am using windows OS. 64bit and 32 bit have the same problem.
The blue screen message is here:
Has anyone encountered the same problem or had some clue of this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

I agree with Bjorn, the problem is still likely to be with your USB read implementation.
Consider the possibility that your system is not reading from the USB buffer sufficiently quickly. What value is in Bytes at Port? Is this value increasing rapidly (faster than you are reading?)
Removing the Enqueue function perhaps also indicates that the queue write is taking time and preventing the while loop from spinning fast enough which could occur if the queue has a maximum element count (maybe you define the named queue elsewhere with a count limit and are failing to remove the queued elements quickly enough to prevent it from filling up?). You have no timeout wired to the enqueue function which means it will wait as long as it takes, stopping the loop. You might be better with a short (10ms) timeout, followed by a check to make sure it doesn't timeout.
Also consider using shift registers on your while loop borders to ensure the VISA ref is maintained, the queue ref is maintained and the errors are maintained (although these aren't likely to be the source of your problem, it's always good practice to maintain your error data for handling).

  • IPod touch causes "blue screen" crash on connection

So, following a defrag on my XP based pc, when I connect my iPod touch to the pc via USB, the PC immediately blue screens. (STOP 0x0000007E 0xc00000005 0x00000000 0xf78ed7c4 0xf78ed4c0).
I suspect it may be the iPod touch USB driver? Is that likely? If so, how do I remove the corrupt driver and reinstall?
    Thanks

Thankfully, after a few changes and reviewing some of the other posts in this excellent forum, I have resolved the problem. It had nothing to do with the defrag at all. What I had omitted was that prior to the blue screen, I had installed the free Photoshop Mobile App from Adobe. By editing and saving a photo, a new directory was created in the photo albums. Then when I connected the iPod to my PC, for reasons best known to Aple (but see various other threads in this forum) the pc thought the iPod was a camera, and tried to load a USB camera driver. I assume this must have conflicted with an existing USB driver on my pc, causing it to "blue screen". By totally removing the app and the new album on my iPod, I was able to make my pc recognise the iPod as an iPod again. Shame, I thought the photoshop app was good, but I shall avoid it (and any other app that creates albums / photos) in future.
Is there any obvious way to alert Apple to these sort of problems with third party apps - or possibly with their OS on the iPod which should be able to stop errors like this?

  • Blue Screen of Death when I try to install Leopard drivers.

So, I've been able to use Boot Camp to install Windows XP, SP 2 on my new 20-inch aluminum iMac. This is the same version (same disk, in fact) of Windows that I installed on my old 17-inch iMac, and it worked perfectly then.
After I finish the Windows installation, and put the Leopard disk in to install the drivers, nothing happens. No Autoplay. When I go into My Computer, and double-click on the cd, the installation process starts. After cycling through 4 drivers, I get the blue screen of death and the computer reboots.
When everything restarts, Windows tells me that I suffered an error. I can't send an error report off, because Windows won't acknowledge my wireless internet connection yet, without the Apple drivers.
I've tried to transfer the Boot Camp 2.1 update to the Windows partition via 2g flash drive, and no luck. Trying to run the update doesn't do anything, the icon simply lights up for a moment and then un-highlights. Nothing happens.
I'm really confused, I didn't have ANY problems like this on my last iMac. Any help anyone might have would be greatly appreciated.

There IS another way to try this.
Boot to Windows and right-click My Computer or My Documents and open as "explore". Insert the Leopard disk. If it offers to install STOP it. Click on the LEFT side the plus sign next to the machine's DVD drive icon (the reason we opened the "explore" style directory). The Boot Camp files are now passive but exposed. Next right click My Computer and click properties. Next hardware and then device manager. Now you can one-by-one install the drivers using Windows hardware wizard. You might even want to drag the contents of the Leopard disk (drivers) right on to your (Windows) "desktop". In device manager open Human Interface Devices - you will find Apple Keyboard or whatever an iMac has there. Rightclick and hit Update Driver - the Wizard opens. Click 'no - not this time' and continue. Click 'install from a specific location' and continue. Next the Wizard gives you a 'browse location' option. Just click around until you locate the Boot Camp drivers in your disk or desktop and proceed - it will update, I promise you.

  • Thinkpad T60 Blue Screening when Idle. CSRSS.exe probable cause

    Hi All,
I have a customer who leaves his computer on at work overnight and has received blue screens every night when he leaves his laptop.  Once he reboots, the laptop is fine until he leaves it idle again.
The bugcheck is BugCheck F4, {3, 86b9cab8, 86b9cc2c, 805d164c} and the probable cause is csrss.exe as noted in the minidump ( I still have to load symbols for the debug).
I have updated bios and all necessary drivers and it still blue screens.  Any idea why this BSOD is still occurring?
    Any information is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Blue Screens, Vista 32-Bit. IRQL Not Less or Equ

Hi, before I begin, I'd like to thank anyone who can help for any assistance provided. This is my first system build and I've been running Vista for less than an hour (And it took about 0 installation attempts to do this), so forgive me for my lack of knowledge in this category. Basically whenever I try to install the drivers, I get a blue screen error that says IRQL Not Less or Equal. My system is as follows:
Creative X-Fi Fatalty Sound Card (The one with the front bezel and remote)
ASUS P5N-E SLI nForce 650i Chipset Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz, Overclocked to 3.0GHz with Zalman CNPS9700 LED.
    2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 RAM, Overclocked to 870MHz.
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB Graphics Card, Overclocked to 65 Core, 900 Memory
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.0 320GB 7200 RPM SATA Hard Dri've
Samsung Write Master 8X DVD-RAM Lightscribe SATA Dri've
Basically, as I glimpsed through the posts I saw someone saying their 8800GTS conflicted with the X-Fi in Vista, so that's likely my problem.
Any time I installed the drivers, the blue screen happened before setup appeared to finish. Vista wouldn't boot after that and I had to use system restore from my Install DVD. I've tried undoing my overclocks but it does nothing... I doubted it would make any difference anyway though. I have no clue what to do to fix this, but if there is a possible way, it would help if it was a step-by-step thing because I'm unfamiliar with Vista, driver modification, or whatever else this will require.
Thanks again in advance for any assistance you can provide. I do appreciate it very much and am excited to get the card working again so I can resume gaming.
    - Beau

Ok, by disabling my sound on my motherboard, I successfully got past this error. But now I noticed that it's interfering with my Logitech keyboard and mouse set. Basically what happened is that they stopped working and the driver install never finished (It appeared as if that program froze in action), while my mouse and keyboard were rendered useless. I restarted and did a system restore and installed the drivers for my logitech set, but now it's saying that I have not restarted since installing drivers when I attempt to install the creative drivers, despite restarting several times. Any ideas anyone?
