Creative 'Keyboard' how to program keys?

Question

There is an option in the 'creative Audio HQ' to use an on screen keyboard. This can be played with the mouse or I can press the qwerty keys to place the notes.
My question is: does anyone know if there is a way to assign the keys to the keys on the keyboard that I want rather than the default ones. I used a music program years ago and still remember that key set so want to re assign then.
If that is not possible does anyone know of any simple program that allows this? i don't need a big complicated program with composition features etc. The best option is a free or share ware simple one but if i have to use a large professional program i will, The main point though is that the keys must be able to be assigned to the notes by the user.

OK!  Figured this out.  Firstly, extra/v4l-utils provided /usr/lib/udev/rc_keymaps/streamzap which contains errors.  I will file a bugreport.  The first line needs to read:
# table streamzap, type: RC-5-SZ
Secondly, it is best to copy that file to /etc/rc_keymaps/streamzap.local and edit that but that requires a modification to /etc/rc_maps.cfg telling it to use the modified file:
* rc-streamzap /etc/rc_keymaps/streamzap.local
One can reload the file after making a change to it with this command:
sudo ir-keytable -s rc2 -a /etc/rc_maps.cfg
...where -s rc2 defines the input controller.  The default is rc0 but if you unplug the USB it increments up one integer per time.
Here is an example changing the mappings to something mplayer friendly (still a work in progress but you get the idea):
