Cropping video - and exporting to WMV without a border

good morning,
I am cropping my videos slightly smaller than the canvas, but when I export them, I get a black border. Is there anyway to get rid of the border?
Thanks in advance

You could create a color matte and place it on a video track underneath your cropped clip. If you feather the cropped edges, the two might blend together.

  • Can the screen be cropped to and exported at a custom aspect ratio?

I think I'm needing Premier to do something it's just not designed to do. What I need to do is to take five or six different screen and audio captures of the same event (a 3D virtual reality instructional session), each representing a different person's view of that event, assemble those in a split screen, synchronize them to the designated "main" capture's audio, delete the other audio tracks, and add CG title labeling each one. The effect is like looking at a display showing six security camera images. From what I can determine, it is possible to do those things in Premier.
However, what I then need to do is to crop out any extra space to the left and right of that split-screen image and export the file as a .mov with the aspect ratio produced by the cropping so that the videos are as large as possible and are not distorted from resizing them to fit the standard aspect ratio. Depending on the size of the screencaps, the resulting .mov might have nearly a 1:1 ratio. What is critical for this is that the video be as large as possible and the "black" space be as small as possible so that the person who comes in later to analyze these composite videos can see everything  as clearly as possible. I also need to crop on the fly; because these images aren't always captured at the same size, it is impossible to preset a size for the resulting video.
We've been using a screen capture tool to do this that works but is a pain; clips can only be moved and resized by mouse-drags, and the software has to import to and export from its own proprietary format, which is very slow. However, ever piece of "real" video editing software I've looked at only seems to export in TV or film aspect ratios. Quicktime Pro looked for a bit like the best bet, but it doesn't seem to be able to handle multiple audio tracks (which are necessary since I have to synchronize tracks by ear much of the time).
Is what I'm describing--exporting .mov files while preserving custom aspect ratios that are created by cropping during editing--something Premier can do? If so, would it be something fairly easy for complete novices to do?

On a Mac based system ScreenFlow might work best but on the PC side FRAPS might work best. You can do what you want to do with Premiere Pro once you record the screen capture. As Stephen_Spider mentioned you might need to crop and even resize the images. FRAPS can record at 1/4 the screen resolution and still have decent results. PP CS 5.5 can play several layers (6 PIPs) of the FRAPS codec at 1/4 resolution in realtime.
Thanks, but we cannot change the screen recording process. According to the study's protocols, the virtual world has to be full-screen or almost nearly so during the session, and that full screen has to be captured for analysis. Resizing the screen captures is not a problem (especially since I already said I'm doing that), but if you're saying that Premier can only play back up to six screen captures simultaneously if they're captured at 1/4 screen, then that's a deal-breaker right there.
By the way, here's approximately what each of the completed composite videos looks like:
    Screencap 1
    Screencap 2
    Screencap 3
    Screencap 4
    Screencap 5
    Screencap 6
Each screencaptures is resized to the largest consistent size that will fit into this format, and then the resulting video is cropped to the outside border. If there are only five screencaptures, I simply center the single one on the bottom on the "center line."
And, to be clear (though I've said this several times already), this is something that is already being done. We probably have more than 60 of these .mov files, each around 45 minutes long, with five or six synchronized screen captures in each. Frame rate etc. has not been any issue with these, and neither has playback of the .mov file from HD or DVD.

  • How do I resize/crop video on Export

I can only seem to work within a 720x480 workspace yet I am importing a 320x240 video which I want to edit and export at 320x240.
    Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    J.E. Flynn

    Thanks Tom and i5m,
    I will try these suggestions.
Tom, as far as recompression I am exporting uncompressed and then doing final compression in Sorenson Squeeze which also has a crop tool I believe.
The problem is having to export a 720x480 movie that is 5 minutes long is ALOT bigger file size wise than a 320x240 size... Just added wait time on export and eats up HD space. Kind of a drag.
    Thanks again guys,

  • How can I select videos (only videos) and export them from iPhoto?

I know how to export one movie at a time from iPhoto, but I want to export all (or a bunch) of videos at a time.  They are mixed in with photos, and on many many different dates.  Is there a way to find only the movie files and export them as original files?  I my macbook is full and if I export iPhoto stuff as a batch the videos end up being reduced to one frame only (the sidecar file).  Please advise.  Thanks!!

  • IMovie crops video when exporting to videocamera

The past two video I have exported back to my video camera after editing them, have been cropped. I only noticed it on this last one, where it cropped out the text. I don't remember it ever doing this in version 4 and below. Is this normal, if so WHY? Has anyone else noticed this and is there anything I can do?

It used to be the case in version 4, and previous, of iMovie that when applying text - e.g; Titles - you could choose to have "QuickTime margins" or not.
QuickTime is a movie format for playing on computers, and the computer monitor will play the entire width and height of the movie.
Normal DV is intended for - ultimately - showing on TVs, not on computers ..and TVs - at least those with cathode ray tubes - crop off the very edges of the picture (..a phenomenon called "overscan"..) so as not to show the timing information and VHS "head-switching" sizzle along the bottom or top of the picture, teletext data lines and other garbage.
Thus, any text which is placed near the edges of a movie on a TV screen may get chopped off.
Broadcasting companies (and film directors) use "TV Safe" margins around their titles, so that when shown on TV the titles do NOT get chopped off or disappear beyond the boundaries of the screen.
The current version of iMovie HD doesn't seem to have a choice of allowing "QuickTime margins" (..i.e; positioning titles nearer to the edges of a frame for use in a QT-only movie, where they'd get cut off on a TV..) or not, but it seems to position titles a bit further up, and a bit further in from the frame edges and nearer to the "TV Safe" area, than before.
So some titles may get slightly cropped when shown on a TV and in a camcorder viewfinder (..v/fs generally do NOT show the very edges of a movie: they behave more like a TV with "overscan"..) but perhaps you can pad out your titles with a bit of extra space at the edges, or re-position them on the screen - some titles can be dragged to the position you prefer - to avoid their being cropped by "overscan".

  • How to crop video AND fill frame?

I have some old movies that I had converted to miniDV. Unfortunately the person who did it didn't zoom in enough on the projected image so the movie image doesn't quite fill the frame of the video.
I'm editing these, and when I'm in FCE I've used the crop tool to crop out the non-image areas on the top and right side. But when I view them, the video frame is still the same size and it shows black bars on the top and right sides where I cropped it, kind of defeating the crop process.
Is there a way to crop out the stuff I don't want and then have the resulting video fill the entire video frame? It's OK if the resulting video has a smaller pixel dimension.

Thanks Mitchell, that was helpful. I first tried your method which worked, and then used a shortcut which was a bit more intuitive.
Once I enabled showing the wireframe, I was able to click on the lower left corner and re-size by dragging it down. The I clicked on the center of the image and dragged it so the image fit properly in the frame. Easy - once you know how.

  • Can't import a small video and export it AS SMALL

    Hey guys,
I'm importing a 16mb MP4 file into premiere, lowering the volume, and trying to export it as the same size.
Every time I select "match source", it shows as a 360p frame size, but still exports a 350mb file.
How do I get a mp4 file of reasonable size?

Set your mbps lower when exporting, it will tell you an estimated file size as you drag the mbps lower.

  • How do I import a video in mp4 and export in QuickTime H.264?

Or is that even possible? Whenever I try I get a error "Incompatible codec..."

It's one file that was produced in a different video software that I used before purchasing Premiere Pro.
Most of it is composed of a series of stills, though there is a portion that is video (mp4 from the old software). I'm assuming I might have better luck creating a new video and exporting it in that format by importing the stills and video and working with them in Premiere Pro.

  • How do i delete sections of video and audio at the same time

hello, i made a video with sound and overlapping voiceover i want to know how do i delete a section of the video and the voice over without having to resynch everything again?

In Final Cut Pro X, this is easy. You drag to select all these clips. Then use the Blade Tool.
However, in iMovie, it is not as straightforward. You can edit the camcorder clip and its audio, but any music tracks, voiceover tracks, etc. will not be edited with it.
A workaround is to use the SHARE menu to SHARE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME using Apple Intermediate Codec to retain as much quality as possible. Then import this new movie into an Event. New all the audio is married to the video and you can edit everything together.

  • XML Export, persistent data and exporting to RPT

We're using CR4E SP1 with CR 2008 Designer to create reports that are delivered via a web application on Windows.
The lack of XML export (particulalrly disapointing that the new 2008 XSLT stuff is not there) means we're resorting to some extraordinary steps to get XML out of a report by using jiwam to call the CRPE COM engine.
We create a report using XI or 2008 that uses a JDBC driver.  The report is copied to our server where users run it in CR4E to view output in Word,  Excel and PDF (we do the connection replacement on the fly).
To get the XML output, we are attempting to save the report as a temporary RPT (Crystal) file, then invoke CRPE via COM to export the persistent data within the file as XML.
The COM stuff works fine on a normal RPT file that contains data, but the creation of this temporary file is proving very problematic.
We have tried SaveAs (just saves what is already in the report) and Export to RPT without success.
Has anbody got any ideas ?
A simple question - when is the data within a report actually refreshed?  Is it when the connection is replaced or when the export is initiated?  Is there a method to call that will refresh the data?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Use CR4E version 2.

  • Audio sync issues with Flip video and PSE9?

If I upload directly from my Flip video camera to PSE9, the audio may start out as synchronized, but as the video progresses the audio becomes more and more out-of-sync.  If I use Quicktime to upload the video and export it as a Quicktime movie, the audio synchronization is fine in PSE9.  I have tried ALL the tech support suggestions, but no luck.  Does anhyone else have this problem?  I am running Windows 7.
    Thanks,

    Hi Tim,
You need to add this setting:
    dynamicStreamBufferTime=8
The actual value can be higher or lower. The best practice is to use a value that is twice the keyframe distance. Anyway, try different values and see which performs the best for your content.
I know that the setup page does not contain this option and it is not documented in the UserGuide. We simply missed it. Sorry.
Also note that the dynamic buffering algorithms are not being used for dynamic streaming content. I tried to explain this here:
    https://sourceforge.net/adobe/smp/wiki/Dynamic%20Buffering/
Looking forward to your confirmation that this solved your issue.

  • I get silent audio after i separate the video and audio

I'm using vintage video that I downloaded from the Internet.  in one project I separated the audio and video, ditched the audio, and exported, via share, the visual clips I need for my final video.  in a new project, I imported the segments to place over the audio I created with music software.  the segments have a silent audio, that is, it has a part that goes on the audio track, but it's silent.  it covers my audio and I can't hear it.  I don't know why this happens or how to avoid it.  help!
    Thanks,

What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running? Are you working with sources that come with copyright? For now I will assume no copyright protection involved.
I understand what you are doing through the point that you get rid of the original audio of a video file that has audio linked to it.
And, further I understand that you bring just that export video portion into a new project which has your "audio ...created with music software".
But after that I need clarification.
    1. I would expect that, in the new project, you import the video to Video 1 to relate to the music that is already on Audio 1 or the Soundtrack.
I lose you when you write
the segments have a silent audio, that is, it has a part that goes on the audio track, but it's silent. it covers my audio and I can't hear it.
    2. I am wondering if you are really saying that when you export the video portion of your file, the export has a video and audio component (silent audio component)? If that is the case, in the export settings under the Advanced Button of the export preset selected, place a check mark only next to Export Video. Remove the check mark next to Export Audio.
See example below from Premiere Elements 12 Windows. On the left...Export Settings and the Export Video and Export Audio boxes for check mark as needed. In the example I have a check mark only next to "Export Video".
    3. But you can do everything in the same project, I would think. Right click the video with its linked audio, select Delete Audio. And then import your music into
    that same project.

  • Creating menu with video and after few seconds fade-in of menutext

I'd like to make a dvd , showing part of some footage after inserting the dvd automatilcally, and after a couple of seconds i'd like to fade in the menu text, with a choice of diferent titles, which you can choose from... i wasn't able to find how to do this in the manual... please help..
    thanx a million

Hi - welcome to the discussions.
You can do this in several ways. You could, for example, set the opening animation into a track and set the end jump action for the track to go on to a menu with the buttons. However, there would appear to be a pause and the buttons wouldn't 'fade' in.
What I would do is create the footage for the animated intro in FCP or Motion and add on to the end of it a still portion of about 30 seconds or more which has the text in place. Make the text fade in as you want it.
I would then take a still of that last part of the footage into Photoshop and use it as a background. Add a layer and on that add on the shapes you want to appear if a button is selected. Hide the background and you should be left with a mostly white image with shapes on it - convert it to grayscale and export that image (without the background) as a .pict file.
Bring both the footage and the .pict file into DVDSP and add the background to a menu. Then add the .pict as an overlay. You can now use the loop point to set where the buttons become active - adjust the middle control to a point just after where the text becomes static.
You then treat it as any other menu - draw out the button rectangles, assign targets and navigation between buttons.
The effect is that your animated introduction plays and the text fades in (as part of the background footage). The buttons become active as soon as the loop point marker is reached, and stay active until the end of the menu. When it loops back there will be a slight flicker, but the buttons will then remain active again.

  • Create previews of video clips with multiple thumbnail and export in html?

    Hi all!
I am trying to make a list of the videos that i have shot with my digital camera....my 1Tb is almost full, so you can understand that is not that easy as looking into a folder with the big thumbnails
this is the expectation: to find an app that can
-create a preview of each video (qt, mov, m4v, wmv, avi, rm, etc)
-create few frames that shows the content of the video
-export the list of movies as web page, with the title of the video and the snapshot for each of them
Do you know if there is any way to achieve this result, without making manually everything?
I've found a software on pc, that i can use with parallels, but it takes just 1 shot of the video, and not multiple, with the result that is hard to get what is in the video, especially when the video is 10-15 min long, and the name doesn't help to recall what was happening in that video
Is there a way to achieve these results with just the apps available on the OS or is there an external sofware to do that?
    thanks!

    This is how i resolved:
I use a software called screen grabber, that reads video files and makes a sheet with previews
then i use thumbsplus on parallels to load these sheets and create an html page with the sheets and thumbnails.
Takes some time, is kinda cumbersome, but this gives me nice html pages with previews taht ar clickable (so you can see the full size sheet with the video preview).
Maybe someone else will stumble on the same problem that i had and find something better than my solution

  • How to edit videos frame-by-frame and export in H264?

I wish to edit some videos and then export them in H264 so I can use them on a website.
I have tried to edit with iMovie 08 but can only edit second-by-second. I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond. And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
I have looked at iMovie 11 which has a Precision Editor which would work to edit as I want but for that I would have to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard which I don't want. It would export H264.
I also have QuickTime Player 7 Pro but that too seems to edit only by the second not by the frame; it does however seem to produce H264
How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
    Thanks for any ideas

I want to edit frame-by-frame ie to the millisecond.
Am a bit confused by what you say. iMovie and QT 7 Pro are both "frame" level editors. However, some forms of editing are, by their very nature, applied over a range of frames which may be a part of your problem. In addition, since "normal" movies have frames which are spaced apart in the 16 to 42 ms range, your requirement to be able to edit to the nearest millisecond would seem unreasonable and would probably be unsupported for playback purposes without skipping 90+ percent of the frames on most platforms.
And it appears that iMovie 08 does not export in H264.
All of the "Share" and/or "Export" options (except Final Cut XML...) either default to H.264 or allow export to H.264 (or X264 if installed) video compression.
How can I edit these videos precisely and produce H264? Is there another application which would work better (and doesn't cost a fortune).
Difficult to say since you have not given any indication as to what you mean by "editing" here. You could, for instance, edit normal movie clips in a normal manner and then use an application like the JES Deinterlacer to change the playback time reference to achieve an effective 1 millisecond/frame playback rate you seem to want to target even though your platform cannot play every frame during playback.
