Cross Domain Data Source Error in SSRS 2008

We have our data warehouse server on a different Windows domain (Domain ABC) to the domain where our end user tools such as SSRS and SSAS sit (DOMAIN 123).  Historically we've used SQL server mixed mode authentication to get around any cross domain
authentication issues but to tighten up security we are trying to switch to Windows only.  However, I'm unable to my development instance of SSRS to connect to a datasource using credentials from a different domain.
I created a copy of the live data source with the same settings except for the credentials.  Here I selected Windows credentials (without impersonation ticked) and put in the username with the format DOMAINABC\DomainAccount with a domain account from
the same domain as our DWH server.  However, none of the reports I tested can conect and throw the error below.  Please can anyone give me some pointers on things to check?  My google research has drawn a blank so far!
An error occurred during client rendering.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot impersonate user for data source 'DWH'.
Log on failed.
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007052E)

From your inital post, it sounded like you wanted to login to the data source with a remote domain user (123 in your example). Glad to see that's not the case!
When you tested the credentials with SSMS were you on the remote domain?
It looks to me like the impersonation is implicit: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms160330.aspx
Theres a couple of notes at the top of that page about remote access being enabled, and the ports that should be open too.
Theres a bunch of potentially useful information about what your connection string should look like here too:

  • FIM connected Data Source Error

I am having issues with the DS-Export in FIM on SharePoint 2013.
I notice the DS_EXPORT operation is receiving 72 Export Errors... with the Error being 'permission-issue' when running a SharePoint profile synchronization. More specifically the Connected data source error in FIM is: "Insufficient access rights to
    perform the operation."
I have granted the farm and synchronization account 'replicate directory changes' in both the domain and the configuration container (netbios and fqdn for domain are different).
What permissions could FIM be referring to?

Is your domain running in Active Directory 2003 mode? If so, did you add the sync account to the Pre-Windows 2000 Compatible Access Group?

    Hi Anuj,
    Thanks for your reply!
I found that the data source is registered on server soa_server1 as follows:

I don't know how to determine which server the DBAdapter is targetted to.
But I found the following information:
    Under Deoloyment->DBAdapter->Monitoring->Outbound Connection Pools
Outbound Connection Pool Server State Current Connections Created Connections
    eis/DB/SOADemo AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/SOADemo soa_server1 Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase AdminServer Running 1 1
    eis/DB/soademoDatabase soa_server1 Running 1 1
The DbAdapter is related to the following files:
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ connectors\ DbAdapter. rar
    C:\ Oracle\ Middleware\ home_11gR1\ Oracle_SOA1\ soa\ DBPlan\ Plan. xml
I unzipped DbAdapter.rar, opened weblogic-ra.xml and found that there's only one data source is registered:

Then I decided to use eis/DB/SOADemo for testing.
For JDeveloper project, after I deployed to weblogic server, it works fine.
But for OSB project referencing wsdl, jca and mapping file from JDeveloper project, still got the same error as follows:

You may need to configure the connection settings in the deployment descriptor (i.e. DbAdapter.rar#META-INF/weblogic-ra.xml) and restart the server. This exception is considered not retriable, likely due to a modelling mistake.
    It almost drive me crazy!!:-(
What's the purpose of 'weblogic-ra.xml' under the folder of 'C:\Oracle\Middleware\home_11gR1\Oracle_OSB1\lib\external\adapters\META-INF'?

  • "Word was unable to open the data source" error message in mail merge

I am trying to do a mail merge in Word 2008 for Mac and receive this message when I try to open the Excel file for the data.  Can someone please help?  I tried changing the filename to .xls (originally .xlsx) but it didn't work.

As far as I know, you cannot merge from a  .xlsx data source in Mac Word 2008, and even though there is a KnowledgeBase article at  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2604725 that suggests
that all you have to do is "rename" to a .xls, I think what you actually have to do is open the .xlsx in Excel and use Save As to create a .xls.
Generally speaking, you will be better off researching Mac Word questions in the relevant forum on Microsoft Answers, in this case here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword
This particular issue was discussed in this conversation: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2008-macword/cant-open-excel-file-for-mail-merge/90ccfd11-273f-4c2a-aa37-1d859b8e41e2?page=1
If that does not help, and you cannot find anything else in the Answers group, I suggest that you post a new question in that group, referencing the above conversation and specifying your version of Mac OSX.

  • ODBC Data Source Error

I was having with Crystal communicating with one of my Access databases that had a list box. In Crystal it would take the list box, add and remove letters. It was suggested that I check with my IT department to see if there are any updates. Well they upgraded me from Crystal XI to Crystal XI R2. Things have gone downhill from there. First I couldnu2019t even open the program and they ended up reinstalling everything again. Now I can open Crystal, but all reports I previously created and new ones I try to create cannot make any connection through ODBC. My IT person and I have tried several things even installing a couple new drivers. My IT department does not provide technical support for software so now Iu2019m on my own to figure this out. If anyone can provide me with any assistance or any suggestions where to check I would greatly appreciate it.
My problem is any time I try to make an ODBC connection to either create or update a report I go through the steps and get an error at the connection information page and cannot go any further. This error happens with MS Access or MS Excel.  The error is "Login Failed. Details: Cannot obtain error message from server. I have no logins or passwords.

In the Organizer workspace, do a
    File > Catalog > Recover
command. That command "cleans up" your Elements catalog and often resolves ODBC data source error messages.

  • Creating new Data Source Error - Database connection Failed

Successfully installed and configured 11.1.1.3.0. Planning and Essbase dev.
Went to Workspace > Administer > Classing Planning Administration > Manage Data Sources > Create Data Source.
Entered all info about the application database , etc. Getting error "The database connection failed" (I was able to connect with no problem during the install)

The diagnostic tool shows database connection passed for planning. A new database was created for the new application.
The server event viewer shows these errors.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Datasource for the application.
I have created a sql db for this planning application (my datasource). See my first message for more details.
When you create a new planning application, you need to associate it with a data source. Since this is a new install, I don't have any data sources available yet.
So, "To create, edit or delete data sources, click Manage Data Source."
This page lets you validate your connection to the database and essbase server. My essbase server connection validates! The database connection does not validate after I enter all the relevant information.

  • Initialize Data Source errors

    Hello,
We are running EP6 SP2 Patch34.  We have a custom DataSource xml file so that we can connect to 2 different MSAD Domains.
This morning the account we use in one of the domains was set to expired so we were getting the following errors in the console logs
<i><b>Warning         data source is not initialized</b></i>
We have since fixed the issue with the ID, but we are still getting these errors in the logs.
Does anyone know how to Initialize the datasource again without restarting the portal?
    Thanks,

Thank you for reminding me what I already knew but in my haste to post out a reply I had forgotten to consider looking at the provider properties.
Today I did and the linked database still failed. The though occurred to me a little later to delete and recreate the linked db and bingo I had a working linked database to Oracle. Now I have three of them and the developer should be working with them now.
This is the first time I ever had to change a provider property to get the provider to work. I would have thought that when the Oracle client install process registered the OLE provider with SQL Server 2005 it would be set with the proper defaults to work.
    Thanks again to everyone

  • Data Source Level SRS (SSRS) Issue - Permissions granted to user... are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)

I've inherited a bit of a security issue and would appreciate any insight.
The bottom line is that I have a user than can run one report from folder "X", but not the report next to it.
Here is the problem context.  The names are changed to protect the innocent.  Sharepoint is not involved.
The SSRS Home Folder has Security "Group or User" of "DomainX\SSRS_Browsers"   with Role(s) "Browser"
"SSRS_Browsers" is an AD group.  The user with the issue (DomainX\UnhappyUser) is a member of this group.
The user is able to navigate to folder "X" (one level below Home) and run Report "A" successfully.  But, when they try to run report "B", they get:
"An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)  The permissions granted to user "DomainX\UnhappyUser" are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
The difference between report "A" that works, and report "B" that doesn't is that report "B" references a data set from a different data source.
Both reports reference DataSource1.  The failing report additionally references DataSource2.   The SSRS logs confirm this is where the problem is:
    ERROR: Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user 'DomainX\UnhappyUser' are insufficient for performing this operation.;
processing!ReportServer_0-34!c58!07/16/2014-16:45:41:: e ERROR: An exception has occurred in data set 'DataSource2'. blah blah blah
Both data sources have "stored" credentials with the same AD user: "DomainX\SSRS_Reports".  Both data sources reference the same instance of SQL Server.  They do have different "Initial Catalog" values.  (DatabaseA
and DatabaseB).  I can run both reports successfully, but I more authority.
"SSRS_Reports" is defined as a "Login" user under "Security" in SSMS at the instance level.  The Server Role is "public".
DatabaseA (which is behind the data source that works) has Security->Users->DomainX\DataBaseA_Readers.   This is an AD group, that includes has "SSRS_Reports" as a member.
DataBaseA_readers (in SQL Server, at the DatabaseA level) is a member of role db_datareader.
DataBaseB (which is behind the data source that fails) has Security->Users->DomainX\DataBaseB_Readers.  This is also an AD group, that includes "SSRS_Reports" as a member.
DataBaseA_readers (in SQL Server, at the DatabaseB level) is a member of role db_datareader.
Does anyone have any insights as to where my problem may be?
Thank you.  Sorry for the verbosity.

    Hi Steve,
After testing the issue in my local environment, I can reproduce it. The Home Folder has Security for "DomainX\SSRS_Browsers" group with "Browser" Role, the folder “X” and Report “A” security is inherited from its parent item, but the Report “B” Item security
is not inherited from its parent item. In this way, the DomainX\UnhappyUser has insufficient permission to render the Report “B”.
So, please try to check the Security page of Report “B” and compare it with Report “A” security settings. If possible, we can click “Revert to Parent Security” button to replace all the defined security settings with the security settings of its parent folder
    ”X”.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,

  • Creating Data Source to SQL Server 2008 in SharePoint Designer 2013

    Hello,
I have been trying to create a Data Source connection to a SQL Server 2008 Database. I use a custom string and I choose the table to display and hit ok. When I try to click on the connection to edit it I get the following error.

    Hi Derek,
According to your description, my understanding is that the error occurred when you edited the Data Source connected to SQL Server.
How did you create the Data Source connected to SQL server using custom string?
I recommend to connect to the database by saving the user name and password to see if the issue still occurs.
More information are provided in the link below:

  • Web service as a data source in Crystal Reports 2008

    Post Author: jpdv
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
I've tried to setup a new report using a web service as a data source.
Untill now, I have not been successful. I always get the same error: unable to log on to data source.
Is there any sample that I can try so that I understand what I'm doing wrong?
Or any documentation on the subject?
    Thanks.

Having the same issues here also.
I can see the wsdl file being accessed successfully in the web access log, but Xcelsius v5.3 return "unable to load URL"
Only thing I can guess is that the schema is "untyped"
So, nobody in SAP has a solution?

    Ramakrishnan L
    Dear Friends,
I am encountering the following the error while running the reports.
REP-4102: Failed to fetch pluggable data source.
    java.lang.NumberFormatException: 75,000000
I am using an Express Query in this case.
The same report runs perfectly when connected to the NT server that has the reports server,Http server and the rdf file. The db that the reports uses is on the SOLARIS server.
But when I use the reports server, http server and the rdf file avaiable to me on the SOLARIS server with the db also now on the same machine it does not run and gives the error.
What could be the problem ?
Just to add more clarity below is the URL which I use to display the report
    NT URL(This works perfectly)
    http://sa560:7778/reports/rwservlet?server=rep_sa560&report=c:\DWHReports\Man_Days_Spent.rdf&express_server="server=ora_ro_tcp:172.20.128.199/sl=-2/st=1/ct=0/st=1/"&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss&OESHOST=172.20.128.199&SUSR_NAME='oraexp'&PASSWORD='test'
SOLARIS URL(This does not work and gives the error)
    http://172.20.128.199:7778/reports/rwservlet?server=rep_gosisvr&report=Man_Days_Spent.rdf&express_server="server=ora_ro_tcp:172.20.128.199/sl=-2/st=1/ct=0/st=1/"&destype=cache&desformat=htmlcss&OESHOST=172.20.128.199&USR_NAME='oraexp'&PASSWORD='test'

  • Cannot Change Data Source - Error The memory could not be "read"

We have some reports that were created under Crystal Reports version 10 using a Sybase 12.5 database as the datasource.  We have since upgraded to Sybase 15 ASE and we are also attempting to upgrade these reports to Crystal Reports version 11.5.  The reports will convert to version 11.5 but will not work because of the following error:
"Failed to load database information. Details: The database connector 'crdb_p2ssyb10.dll' could not be loaded"
From previous experience we know that Sybase 15 is only supported via ODBC with Crystal Report 11.5, so we tried to change the datasource to ODBC, but when we do that we get the following error:
The instruction at "0x0e864b11" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".
Do we have any options at this point besides competely re-creating the reports?

We are using CR 11.5 and trying to change the data source to ODBC.  I can create a new report and use the same stored procedures as a datasource via ODBC with no issues.  I only have an issue when trying to change the data source on these existing reports.
