Cross join in all power pivot relation

Hi,
I am working on Office 365 Excel 2013.
From last tuesday of this month (the 2015/02/19), all my new reports are false.
Even with two simple tables joined by the same character key,  provide me the folowing wrong result :
instead of having 1 as a total on the "A" key, I have 10, and you can see that keys of table two are multiplied.
Is it a referenced bug ?
Key(T1 &T2)      Total Table 1               Total table 2

At the begining, I tried to join this two table on the % Transaction ID. As I had the wrong result I created the TRID Field built with a concatenation to make the key to become characters. Finally I built a fake key with simple Letter.
The result is a One to One relation as below wherre you can sumarize any information.

The one that I had was a cartesian product where each key of one table was related to all of the key of the second table

The solution, after the release, was to break the data model by removing the relation, one of the table and to start It again.

    Naomi N
    T-SQL: Random Equal Distribution
    Jinchun Chen: "Nice."
    JS: "The crucial thing about such a procedure is to check the data before the randomization and afterwards. You might encounter situations where "John Smith" and "John Meyers" might have exchanged their First names
    which is technically correct, but logically and obviously wrong. So make sure that there is one additional check afterwards that makes sure that eventual privicy concerns will not survive the random process. Normally this would not happen, but I have already
    checked this is one of my older blog entries, where we exactly had that problem obfuscating data to make that operational and live data will not be recognized afterwards. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jenss/archive/2009/04/08/when-is-random-random-enough.aspx In
    addition to this some attributes are sticky to each other like gender and First Name. You also have to make sure that your distribution might change statistically in relation to other attributes."
    Richard Mueller: "Very instructive. Perhaps the See Also section should have more links."
    Ed Price: "Great formatting and topic! Could benefit from more descriptions. Great article!"
    GO: "Naomi, your article is nice. Simple to understand the 'problem' and execute the 'solution""

    JS: "For me not using this sort of things regularly, I don't see the problem and the benefit. I have no doubt that this is a brilliant explanations how to cope with a problem, but for me this is missing yet the red line. More pictures
    would be helpful describing the problem and outlining the results produced."
    Richard Mueller: "Needs more explanation, and perhaps an example. There should be links to relevant references."
    Ed Price: "Good job on the opening descriptions! Could benefit from breaking up and explaining the code more. Images and references would be helpful. Good article!"

    DataCleanUp() Function Implementation in MS SQL Server
    Jinchun Chen: "Good."
    JS: "-Does actually not work for Case senstive areas where I want to remoce certain Upper/lower case characters. This might be not interesting for some people, but is extremely important and relevant to other people. The limitation is
    that I can´t pass multiple values to be removed from the string, right ? Could this be implemented as well as many people wash out their data from unused / unimportant control characters. "I have tested it on a table which has got more than 11 Million
    rows and it executed fine returning the correct results. Since this is a scalar function you will notice decrease in performance." Once you want to maintain the old data and keep the new cleaned up one seperately, you could suggest something like persisting
    the data in a computed column which could be indexed and then help improving the performance. This would not be the case for any adhoc queries though."
    Richard Mueller: "Very clever and also very useful. There should be links to references, for example to explain the PATINDEX function."
    Ed Price: "Great job on this article! Very clear and well executed! See JS's comments for some thoughts about what's possible. Great article!"

  • How to seperate Power Pivot Data Model and Power Pivot Report from Single Workbook.

    HI  Team,
    Initially, We have created Power Pivot report in workbook, containing Source Data Model as well.
    Now, we want to convert workbook having model as Shared Data Model, and all report needs to be part of single workbook.
    I want to implement one of the below solution, but know how to do it.
    1. Separate and Export all Power Pivot report sheet into single Excel Workbook such that it will have all report sheets.
    2. Use Same Model as it is and delete reports from existing one after export to new excel workbook.
    OR
    Is there is any other way to avoid re-creation of reports again? I want to use same report but instead of Embedded Excel data source, I want to use shared data Source in excel.

    One option is to use one workbook as the data source(model) and other workbooks for the reports.  This works in the stand alone Excel and SharePoint versions of Power BI, but not yet in O365 Power BI version.
    There is no export functionality. You would have to copy the workbook and update data source references. I have never tried it, but in theory it should work :).
    Brad Syputa, Microsoft Reporting Services This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties.
    Hi Michael,
    Yes your answer is partially correct..thanks for reply, I am working on Power Pivot reports on SharePoint.
    However, below issues observed.
    1. There is No Export Functionality ( as you told)
    2. We can not copy report sheet from workbook1 (which has Data Model) to Workbook2 ( only for report) using Control + C (copy) and Control + V (paste) option.
    Or Move Power Pivot Table ..
    So, solution can be (as you said, unfortunately I tried it already but dint worked)
    1. Copied workbook with New Name - Workbook2.
    2. Go to Data -> I tried to change connection setting -> to use shared Data Model -> I could create new Pivot table using shared Data Model
    But, Still I could use earlier designed Power Pivot tables as it is, to point to shared data model.
    I don't want to re-design entire report. As my project workbook has plenty reports.... :)

  • How to Empty all rows within a Power Pivot Model

    Hi,
    I would like to know how to empty all rows within a Power Pivot model. I am in the process of creating quite a complex Power Pivot model. This means I need to create some sort of primitive version control process, e.g. stored multiple backups of the Power
    Pivot model without the data.
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

    Forget what I've said before:
    Have a look at Gil's thread here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/40abe021-1abd-4a2a-bf33-a035847fb7be/disconnect-datamodel-from-source?forum=powerquery
    For Power Pivot it means that you can get rid of all your data, but Keep Relations, measures, ..everything.
    Just import your tables once in order to get the connections right and move on.

  • Pivot + cross join

    Hello,
    I've written the following query, which works fine:
    select * from
         select
              to_char(SCB_OPENTIME, 'YYYY-MM') as curr_date,
              SCB_TASK
         from EM_DATA_MSR_SC
    pivot
         count(SCB_TASK) for curr_date in
              '2011-01',
              '2011-02',
              '2011-03',
              '2011-04',
              '2011-05',
              '2011-06',
              '2011-07',
              '2011-08',
              '2011-09',
              '2011-10',
              '2011-11',
              '2011-12'
    );Now I need to apply a cross join on it:
    select * from
         select
              to_char(SCB_OPENTIME, 'YYYY-MM') as curr_date,
              SCB_TASK
         from EM_DATA_MSR_SC
         where
              EMSCG_STATUS = status.name
    pivot
         count(SCB_TASK) for curr_date in
              '2011-01',
              '2011-02',
              '2011-03',
              '2011-04',
              '2011-05',
              '2011-06',
              '2011-07',
              '2011-08',
              '2011-09',
              '2011-10',
              '2011-11',
              '2011-12'
    cross join
        select 0, 'Closed' as name from DUAL union
        select 1, 'Denied' from DUAL union
        select 2, 'Open' from DUAL
    ) status;When I try to execute this query, I get this error message:
    "STATUS"."NAME": invalid identifierHowever, SQL is supposed to have table references scoped to one level deep.
    Am I doing something wrong?

    Unfortunately, your snippet doesn't work either.
    Here is a simple test case:
    CREATE TABLE TEST
      NUM NUMBER NOT NULL,
      DAT DATE NOT NULL
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (32, SYSDATE - 43);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (9, SYSDATE - 143);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (90, SYSDATE - 13);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (24, SYSDATE - 3);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (244, SYSDATE - 39);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (44, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (44, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (44, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (60, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (51, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (44, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (0, SYSDATE - 3);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (16, SYSDATE - 11);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (24, SYSDATE - 9);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (59, SYSDATE - 27);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (29, SYSDATE - 16);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (20, SYSDATE - 47);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (103, SYSDATE - 1);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (41, SYSDATE - 92);
    insert into TEST (NUM, DAT) values (42, SYSDATE - 40);Here's the corresponding working query:
    select * from
         select
              to_char(DAT, 'YYYY-MM') as curr_date,
              NUM
         from TEST
    pivot
         count(NUM) for curr_date in
              '2011-01',
              '2011-02',
              '2011-03',
              '2011-04',
              '2011-05',
              '2011-06',
              '2011-07',
              '2011-08',
              '2011-09',
              '2011-10',
              '2011-11',
              '2011-12'
    ;Now, say I want to display the number of NUMs grouped by range values and by DAT. I'd like to have this kind of output (each # is a different number):
    -------- 2011-01 2011-02 2011-03 2011-04 2011-05 2011-06 2011-07 2011-08 2011-09 2011-10 2011-11 2011-12
    0 - 20         #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #
    21 - 50        #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #
    51 - 300       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #       #To do so, I'd like to write something like this:
    select * from
         select
              to_char(DAT, 'YYYY-MM') as curr_date,
              NUM
         from TEST
         where NUM >= ranges.mini and NUM <= ranges.maxi
    pivot
         count(NUM) for curr_date in
              '2011-01',
              '2011-02',
              '2011-03',
              '2011-04',
              '2011-05',
              '2011-06',
              '2011-07',
              '2011-08',
              '2011-09',
              '2011-10',
              '2011-11',
              '2011-12'
    cross join
        select 0, 0 as mini, 20 as maxi from DUAL union
        select 1, 21, 50 from DUAL union
        select 2, 51, 300 from DUAL
    ) ranges
    ;Alas, this isn't a valid query:
    "RANGES"."MAXI": invalid identifierUsing a WITH clause doesn't help (same error message):
    with ranges as
        select 0, 0 as mini, 20 as maxi from DUAL union

  • Cross Join in Power Query

    Is it possible to create a cross join between queries in Power Query?
    I plan to use a table holding budgetlines that i want to cross join with a timetable to create monthly budgetlines.
    Thanks, Menno van Leewen

    Hi Menno,
    Yes, it's possible to perform different kinds of join operations in Power Query, including a cross join. Please check out this page for more information on the different options,
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/table-join-HA104112136.aspx
    The library specification also contains a description about the different Join Kinds (around page 164):
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/learn-about-power-query-formulas-HA104003958.aspx?CTT=5
    According to your description, I think you will want to do a full outer join. It should look similar to this:
    Table.Join(Customers, "CustomerID",Table.PrefixColumns(Orders, "Order"), "Order.CustomerID", JoinKind.FullOuter)
    Thanks,
    M.

  • Can I update datas of Power Query after making relation tables in Power Pivot ?

    Can I update datas of Power Query after making relation tables in Power Pivot ?
    I want to update datas at day by day to viewing today's graph by Power View on Excel.
    Power Query use to transform web site to Power Pivot data model table.
    Power Pivot use to making relasing tables, and making measuers.
    Regards,

    Hi Yoshihiro,
    Can you share an example of the things you are doing in Power Pivot? There are some operations that prevent the query from being refreshed in Power Query; this is not ideal so we are currently working on fixing it.
    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Blank Record Appearing in Power Pivot, How do I ensure that my Power Query script is filtering out all the Blank Records

    Hi,
    I noticed once of my Fact tables in my Power Pivot model contains a blank record. I can't understand why.
    So I added a Filter expression to the underlying Power Query query, something like; -
    Text.Length("MyField") > 0
    However after refreshing the Power Query query which contains the above expression the blank record still appears within my Power Pivot table.
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.
    Kieran Patrick Wood http://www.innovativebusinessintelligence.com http://uk.linkedin.com/in/kieranpatrickwood http://kieranwood.wordpress.com/

    hi..
    As my understand, the blank record in Power Query will be return null value . So that, You try to use Text.Length("MyField" ) <> null.

  • How to create and export a sharepoint list connection file to excel connection file library from power pivot?

    Hi All,
    I'm new to SharePoint and Power BI.
    I've to use  share point 2013 lists to create power view reports. For that, I need to create Power Pivot in Excel 2013.
    I'm fine with the above. We normally take a data feed of a list and create connection to that. We need to create a connection file (.odc) and export it into a excel file connection library of Share point. The connection to be made to share point list. The
    power pivot will be having multiple related lists.
    How can I create a connection file which is referring to share point list
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Julie

    Hi All,
    Finally, I could find the answer for this question after a long search.
    First of all, open a new excel file in server.
    Data-->From other connection-->From data connection wizard-->data feed-->Location of the data feed-->
    http://sharepointsite/sitename/_vti_bin/ListData.svc
    -->next-->select the lists which you need-->next-->only create connection-->properties--->export connection file
    -->ok
    The connection file has been created and .odc file exported to the specified location.
    Open power pivot and check the connection in existing connections.
    Exported file has to be uploaded in Excel file connection library of share point 2013. So that you can refer the same in this excel file when you upload it into share point.
    Regards,
    Julie

  • POWER PIVOT : VBA SCRIPT ON SLICER TO HIDE VALUES

    Hi,
    Can someone help in vba coding to assign to slicer in power pivot report.I have a slicer with blank values coming. i have to hide those blank values.  My Model is SSAS tabular model . Since the tabular model wont support outer join these blank
    values are coming in the slicer.
    ie, i have a column called "fact.measures " in fact table and have   two dimension tables  called dim.measures1 and dim.measures2( measures2 is a subset  of measures1) . The measures2.measures column have
    only 4 members  : budget,cost, revenue, margin where as measures1.measures have more values in addition to above 4 members.
    Iam joining two dimensions to the fact table. Since measures2.measures  have only 4 members in the column and fact have more members iam getting blank values in the measures2.measures  . Since i cannot have any other logic in the model only option
    is to hide those blank values in the slicer created on the measures2.measures.
    can someone help me with a vba code to hide this blank value. "Hide items with no values " in the slicer property will not work since these blank sell have values in the fact table.
    IAM USING 2013 EXCEL
    Hope you got an idea of the issue
    looking forward for suggestions and tips
    thank you

    Thank you for trying but it's not what I am after.  I understand how to use Slicers with pivot tables.   My question relates to Pivot Tables created using PowerPivot.   Directly under the Pivot Fields list on the right is a section where
    you choose what you want to pivot  i.e  Filters, Values, Rows, Columns.   These are standard with any pivot table.  When I watch videos on PowerPivot there are 2 additional options in the section.  Slicer Vertical, Slicers Horizontal.
     The video comments  they only show in when creating a pivot table using PowerPivot.  These 2 options are not there for me.  I don't know why. It maybe the version of office I am using which is Microsoft Office Plus 2013. I'd like them
    included.  Appreciate you taking the time to help.

  • Power pivot gallery excel auto data refresh 401 error

    Hi All,
    we have big farm, there a lot reports which is designed through power pivot, and those files are placed in power pivot library and scheduled it to daily refresh, but we are observing 401 occasionally twice in a week for random reports,
    if we keep the same two copy of same file one get refreshed another get 401 error
    Errors in the high-level relational engine. The following exception occurred while the managed IDbCommand interface was being used: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.;The logon attempt failed. An error occurred while processing the
    'EISS OA Master Table' table. The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed.
    how we can resolve this? we have case open to Microsoft no help till now. cleared the timer jobs, also all reports are configure with 2008 r2 versions only that is provider is
    Provider=MSOLAP.4;, not getting how to resolve this issue. please help
    Guruprasad Marathe

    thanks i was referring to an automatic refresh while the excel report opens, before user has any interaction with it.
    Apparenty the classic pivot table option in excel works in sharepoint's excel services just the same!

  • How I can change a power pivot without change the power charts that are suing that power pivot as source?

    Hi All
    My issues using an Example,
    I've a power pivot with 3 related tables, (two dimension tables and one measure table), then I created a pivot chart using
    that 3 tables as source...
    The pivot chart is a little complex... it takes some time to rebuild from the scratch... I have added 3 measures to the chart,
    M1, M2, M3... but due to a business changes I need to refresh the measures M1, M2, M3 with information from a different source...
    i.e. I need to drop the 3 measures from the Power Pivot, then I need to add them again with the same names, but when I drop
    them from the power pivot table  the pivot Chart Fields Values disappear and the chart obviously is refreshed without the 3 measures... :S
    Question: How can I drop a column from a power pivot table, then add it again with the same name without affect the Pivot
    Chart Fields... i.e. only when I do the refresh manually the charts are affected... but once the name of the columns are the same.. the charts don't change the layout....
    Thanks Very Much!!!
    Luis

    Luis,
    Any luck with this?

  • Cross join of dimensions

    Hi,
    For example:  two dimension tables and one fact table.
    dim1: branch
    branch1
    branch2
    dim2: time
    day1
    day2
    fact: sales
    branch1, day2, 100
    what I want in answers when using branch and time and sales without any filters:
    Branch1, day1, 0
    branch1, day 2, 100
    Branch 2, day1, 0
    Branch 2, day 2, 0
    so basically I want to keep all dimensions combinations and related facts or 0 if there is no related facts. How to do it?
    I know how to do it for just one dimension.  That is to set up the relationship between the dimension and the fact as outer join. But how about two or more dimensions?
    In SQL it will be something like dimension 1 cross join dimension 2 then left outer join the fact.  How to do it in OBIEE 10 G?

    And I have tried set branch - fact and time - fact as outer join. In answers,
    1. select time and sales
    day1, null
    day2, 100
    2. select branch and sales
    branch1, 100
    branch2, null
    3. select branch, time , and sales
    branch 1, day 2, 100
    branch 2, null, null
