Crosscompiling for Sparc on Intel
Hello gurus,
I've a problem on which nobody could help me yet. Maybe I ask the wrong questions or the wrong people - who knows. So I ask YOU as THE gurus for Solaris (a newbie on Solaris I am).
Here it comes:
It is ANYHOW possible to compile a program (plain .c) for the SPARC Solaris 8 on a Intel Solaris 8 system? Please help if you can. In case it is possible - you have an idea on howto link the sparc solaris 8 mysql libs within?
c'ya and thanx in advance, Dirk.
Hi,
there was an article in a german magazine (freeX 2'2002) on this subject.
Title: Cross-Compile von Programmen fuer Linux/sparc (Author Felix J. Ogris)
(crosscompiling programs for Linux/SPARC).
The article is very good and gives valuable hints BUT is in german.
The authors home-page is http://www.ogris.de/.
Link to the table of contents (also in german)
http://www.cul.de/data/freex22002inh.pdf
Maybe the author is willing to send you a draft copy of his article (in german).
Best regards
Michael

Install Oracle for SPARC on intel machine?
can i install oracle for SPARC on a Solaris x86 box?
As I am not able to find right version for it.Not, you can not do it because a version made up for Sparc is adjusted to the assembler for that processor. The assembler language of Sparc and Intel are different.

Start date for Solaris on Intel
Hi all,
Does anyone know the date when Solaris first became available on the Intel Platform? Also, is 2.6 available on Intel?Solaris Intel version has existed since around 1992; source trees for Sparc and Intel were merged at 2.4 so the products (ignoring HW differences) are identical.
2.6 has reached "End Of Life" - contact your Sun sales representative if you have requiremnts for product/support going into the future.
Otherwise focus on Solaris 8, the currently shipping **FREE** version (subject to terms) at www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries -
SMP results for Solaris on Intel
Does anyone have or know where I can find SMP results for Solaris on Intel?
I work for a .com that is trying to decide whether or not to use 8-way Dell's or SPARC.
Opinions welcome.
Thanks in advance -

Solaris 8 on Intel and apps for Sparc
I have installed Solaris 8 on PC wit Intel processor
but when i tried to run applications compiled for Solaris 2.6 for Sparc or Ultrasparc
they did not start .
Is there any way to start applications compiled for Solaris - Spark
under Solaris for Intel ?
And how if possible ?
Or the problem is elsewhere ?
ThanksNo way. Different CPU architecture, you must
recompile the applications from source to intel
binary code.
(Exception: shell scripts and other interpreted
languages, including byte code interpreters ("java"),
run on different solaris architectures without
recompiling) -

How about computer desktop or computer workstation with the latest version has CPU supports Oracle VM or SPARC?Nope. The only place you find SPARC T4 processors is in Sun Servers (and some Fujitsu servers, I think). -

Tiffsplit crashes on Solaris (sparc and intel), okay on Linux
Hello experts,
I have a tiff file that causes a crash with tiffsplit when run
on Solaris (both Sparc and Intel) but not on Linux.
It works successfully on
Red Hat Linux 2.4.18 -- libtiff.so.3.5
but crashes on

Solaris 9 on Sparc -- libtiff.so.3.9.4
Solaris 10 on Intel -- libtiff.so.3.8.2
It's crashing at a call to

and pstack shows stack trace like

What could I do to make it work properly on Solaris 9 on Sparc ?
Thanks for your help. You should have no problems if both are using Sun's Java Runtime enviroment. I believe there are some problems with Microsofts implementation of Java, but I don't know exactly what.

Libutl++ for SPARC/Solaris8 ?
Not a very healthy question to post but, I am unable to find libutl++ for sparc/solaris8. Can anyone help me in this regard.
I know this seems silly, but an "eval" version of 9i for Solaris Intel was available from the Oracle Store for the cost of the media. I have also found when I went from Solaris 8 10/01 to Solaris 8 02/02 that 9i came with the OS for the Sparc. I haven't upgraded my Intel boxes yet so I don't know if the same trick applies!
Not quite what you asked, but....

How can I create a start up disk for a old intel core duo running 10.5.8.. Computer works fine, but can't find install disk. Want to use internal disk drive or USD flash drive.
Try calling 1-800-676-2775. Give the serial number and thy *may* still burn you new install disks designed just for the hrdware in your system (for a fee, something like $160 per disk). *May* is only because they may not burn disks for Leopard anymore.
If they do not burn them for you, you can buy Leopard disks off Amazon or eBay for about $200.
Have you considered Snow Leopard?. Those disks only cost $19 (single user) or $29 (5-user license) through Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. -

10.1.0.3 Oracle client for SPARC (64-bit) not on Metalink
All,
I cannot find the 10.1.0.3 Oracle client on Metalink account for SPARC. Is this available anywhere? You have to download the base version also, not only patch set!
To get the patch set:
click tab Patches & Updates, then click link "Quick links to latest ...".
Now choose Oracle Database, scroll down to Solaris SPARC 64bit -> patch set versions 10.1.0.3 to 10.1.0.5.
As far as I know, I dont deal with Client installs much, you can upgrade both Client and Database with the "Database" patch sets.
