Crossdomain Image and smoothing security...

Hi there,
I have once again the big problem of loading images from all around the www (my users just type urls to their images, not I do). Everything works fine if I just use an <mx:Image> element to load those images into my flex app. The problem is, that I cannot read the Bitmap content and so even build in functions like smoothBitmapContent (from SDK 3.5+) do not work when no "crossdomain.xml" exists on the foreign server.Took me some hours to finally understand why this stuff does not work.
I have now either really crappy pictures (if scaled in any way you can read almost nothing on them anymore) or no pictures because of sandbox restrictions. As far as I understood the reason is that your app should not trust the foreign data that is delivered and executed inside your Flash context. Because somebody could deliver an evil swf that could ready data that it should not read and so on. But why does the other host require a crossdomain.xml? Does the other sever need to tell me that I can trust his images? This doesn’t make much sense does it?
I found some examples of a image proxy for my server, but this is not how it should work and I don’t want to bundle all bandwidth on my “small” server if image hosters have hundreds of servers to load images in proper time.
Any HTML page can load the same images and manipulate them without such restrictions. If there no workaround to that problem? Shall I start over and turn to HTML5 instead?

Remember, you are the person invited into someone else's home.  The server's
crossdomain.xml is the allowing you to actually touch their stuff instead of
just look at it.  There is no way the security model would allow a stranger
to make that kind of decision, only the homeowner can.  However, as the
stranger, you have to decide whether to touch their stuff.  It could in fact
be dangerous to you as well.
See, this is where Flash's security model makes no sense.  If I'm using PHP or .NET or any other language in the world, I can get all the bytes from an HTTP GET request and do whatever the hell I want with them, server be damned.  It's only Flash that is specifically preventing me from accessing them, it's not the policy of the server that's serving the object.  If the server didn't want me to be able to look at the bytes in a response, it would not satisfy the request in the first place.  Once the data have been transmitted over the network, there should be no restriction on what I can do with them.
I have a similar objection to Flash's restriction on reading response headers.  If the server returns a 302 redirect, why can't I get at the contents of the redirection header?  I know it's not supported by the browser plugin API but WHY NOT?  It makes working with YouTube, for example, needlessly difficult.  What possible security issue could there be?  The server is returning an important piece of information, they certainly don't mean for it to be kept a secret.
Sorry, rant over...

  • Re-Imaging and Security Related Trust Issues

    Hello,
    Yesterday, I asked the question about how to fix having trust issues all the time when re-imaging computers in a school environment. I am using Windows Server 2008R2 and a Windows 7 Image created in FOG image program. The machines we use are HP5100 Desktop
    machines.  I didn't feel that I properly explained in the first post how we re-image the machines. I am hoping this will give you a better idea of what we are doing, and you can help me figure this issue out. Thank you in advance.
    Step 1: Bring Windows 7 Image down to an HP5100 Desktop, update plugins and send image update back up in Fog
    Step 2: Delete all machines out of the active directory for specified labs.
    Step 3: Re-image school labs of 30 machines each
    Step 4: Rename each machine with unique id, example : BJSHS203S01DW7 (name of school, lab #, Student #, and OS)
    Step 5: Join the domain
    Step 6: Make necessary adjustments, and use deep freeze to freeze machines up
    Those are the steps we use when re-imaging, and so far for the past two years we have sporadic issues with two labs in particular with receiving trust-relationship message, and also sometimes get a message that says there are no servers available. When this
    happens, then I need to go to the machine unfreeze it, unjoin the domain, delete the name from the active directory, and then rejoin the domain. Sometimes this works but more often than not it doesn't work so well, and then I have to go through the whole process
    again. We do not use sysprep on our machines.
    So my question is this : What am I doing wrong? Is there anything you can recommend to fix this problem so that I don't have to continue to fix the machines and waste time?
    Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help!!
    Angie

    Deep Freeze may be causing your problems.  Have you read this article from Deep Freeze makers about trust relationship issues?

  • Disc image and mounting question .

    Disc utility - file - new > blank disc image . Save as ( so so ) . Volume name (so so ) . Volume size (4.5 gb dvd-r/dvd-ram. ) . Volume format ( mac os extended journal ) . Encryption ( none ) . Partition (cd dvd ) Image format ( spars bundle disc image )
    I do this and I get two icons on desk top . One looks like the hard drive symbol and will say so so .sparsebundle . Then under it is an icon that looks like an external cd player or the like . And will say the image name under it .
    When I open the image icon and put my files into it I close it and burn it to dvd . After it is finished I try to open it and it says it cant be mounted . So I tried the hard drive looking one just above it and nothing . So I could eject the icons but not the dvd . She says I should try closing application and try again . Cant find anything to close so I restart and can eject the dvd then . I put it back in and same thing so I restart and get it back out . Now I start all over a new and just before I burn I leave the folder open and click edit select all the file the burn selected items to disc and vwula every thing
    s ok .
    Now after you have read all this , my question is (1) What is the top icon for ?
    (2) Is this normal ?
    (3) Can I keep asking questions like this to learn my mac . I do search the forums and they are quite helpful Thank you for your time .

    Plymouth Horizon,
    I will do my best, First Why are you making a sparse image and then burning? To Me this seems like extra work. What you can do is make a Burn Folder, add the things you want burned and then burn it. It will add Icons for the stuff in it with an alias Icon but it will burn the file not just an alias. I personally only use the images when I want to secure something with a password, or store files I've downloaded.
    I would say that its normal, in the case that your making the image on your desktop. The reason you have the two 'Icons' is one is the image and the other is the mount of the image. Think you downloaded a .dmg file you have the file in your downloads folder and the icon on your desktop, you trash them both to get rid of.
    And you are more then welcome to keep asking questions here, that is what these forums are for.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Is there a way to save a fillable form (in Reader) as a static (uneditiable) image and send it for signature without the recipient being able to revise the fields at all?

    Is there a way to save a fillable form (in Reader) as a static (uneditiable) image and send it for signature without the recipient being able to revise the fields at all? I have designed a number of fillable forms and sent them to our clients as Reader extended pdfs to be filled out and sent back. Now, certain clients want to be able to fill in the fields and save the doc as a pdf that can't be tampered with so that they can send it to their own people for signature to be returned to them hand-signed and scanned via email.
    Since the forms have been secured, and my cleints are only using the free Acrobat Reader, how can they save the filled in form as a static pdf to send on for signature? They do not want to have to print, scan and email. Is there an app, plug-in, simple solution to this?
    Thank you,
    Rumor

    The signature WILL work! I've just looked into it more, thank you so much for pointing me in that direction.
    I get it now, it locks the form fields in place after my coworker fills them in and signs it (as the very last step).
    I wish I would have asked on here a full day ago. Would have saved a lot of headache and Googling.
    Thanks again.

  • How to ensure a smooth update and smooth running mac

    Hello all. First off this is not a 'help' or 'query' post, thanks to everyone in this Discussion who has helped me in the past for various mac problems, thought I "give back" and post some good tips and usage on "ensuring a smooth update and smooth running mac" in the long run.
    Altogether I have 3 Macs at home to "maintain" (my iMac G5, MacBook and my sis's Mac mini Intel) and in the office my own G5 Tower and 2-3 other same G5s. So far I have "dare to say" (touchwood ) I have not run into any major problems while performing any major OS or Security Updates; I know some of these steps are mentioned and even "preach" many times, but by doing them, you avoid all the inconvenience in the long run:
    Always Backup:
    1. Whatever you do, invest in a 2nd hard drive and perform regular back ups!
    2. If you have a G5 Tower or Mac Pro, get a 2nd drive or 3rd and install internally, if you have the other Macs, get an external FireWire Hard Drive.
    3. Use SuperDuper, and pay the little shareware to get the additional automatic and scheduling functions to help you perform auto backups, or if you prefer doing the backup manually
    4. For home users, I would recommend you perform a Backup once every 2 weeks. Heavy office/work use, I say once a week
    Performing Updates:
    1. Before Starting Up, unplug all external devices like FW drives, USB hubs etc, leave only your wired keyboard, mouse and internet connection (unless they are all wireless)
    2. Start Up your mac, quit all running applications and Repair Disk Permission
    3. Restart again and Repair Permission again
    4. Quit all other running apps and also turn off Norton Anti-virus, run Software Update
    5. Whether or not you have the Restart option after the update, Restart your mac
    6. Repair Disk Permission
    7. Shut down the mac, fix all the external devices etc
    8. Start up your mac, Repair Permission again
    9. Use your Mac as usual
    I have been doing these since all the 10.4 updates and I have not encounter any problems with all my macs.
    When a Kernel Panic occurs:
    1. Restart the mac and boot into Single User Mode (fsck)
    2. Run fsck and Repair the mac
    3. Reboot the mac, Repair Permission
    Regular Maintenance:
    1. Get a Maintenance Utility like Cocktail, and pay for the shareware and schedule regular maintenance cycles.
    2. The Mac OS also has a "built-in" maintenance script that runs in the wee hours (local time), so it is actually encourage that you at least leave your mac on overnight for at least one or two nights in the week.
    If you do not wish your mac to be left on till the morning, you can always schedule in Energy Saver's Schedule options for the mac to turn on and off at your designated times.
    I always leave my office mac on till about 4-5 am in the morning and I set things like Cocktail and NAV scans to run in those hours so they won't disrupt your day time operations, I do the same to my own home iMac.
    These tips and pointers are not new and have been mentioned many times in these posts, but if you just take that extra little time to follow through, you will be ensure a better and healtheir running mac.
    Cheers

    You can enter your Mac's serial number at this site. Information, based on the serial number, will be shown. http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html Then tell us what model PB you have.
    Usually, you get a blinking ? when no OS is installed. The startup tone (bong) you heard indicates the PB passed the startup hardware test.

  • BitLocker AutoUnlock second drive (after creating a new OS drive image and then encrypting)

    Hi
    Sorry, not sure which forum to put this question in, so I pick the Security.
    I have a question about the Bit Locker autounlock.
    I have been using BitLocker on Win7 and Win2008.  The autounlock has worked fine.  I have two separate disks (c:\ and e:\).  Using one USB I can unlock the c:\ and then it will auto unlock the second disk.  No problems.
    However, I had to create a new OS image, and then re encrypt the c:\ (OS drive).  I used the same USB.  When the computer boots up, I can manually unlock the e:\, but it will not let me autounlock the e:\.  I keep getting the "element
    not found" message.
    Any help would be appreciative.
    Thanks

    Thank you for your reply...but that was not what I was looking for.
    I understand, and have setup, how to auto unlock the second drive.  My question is, does the second disk have to be present when the OS drive is encrypting?  Scenario:
    Set 1:
    Original OS Drive (OOD) - already encrypted
    Original Second Drive (OSD) - already encrypted and auto unlocked.
    Set 2:
    New OS Drive (NOD) - encrypted
    Original Second Drive (OSD) - encrypted previously and auto unlocked.
    Using Set 2, I have encrypted the NOD, and was able to auto unlock the OSD while it was present.  However, since I have multiple OSD's, I then inserted another OSD with the NOD.  I am able to unlock this drive, but not able to auto unlock it.
    I get the dreaded "Element not Found" message.  I am assuming that when the OS drive is encrypting, it somehow attaches to the OSD....therefore it can auto unlock it.  If I add another OSD, it will not be able to auto unlock it.
    Hope this makes sense.  Thanks again.

  • Website image and zip file download links not working in Dreamweaver Air application

    Hi
    I have successfully created and AIR app for an existing business website using the Dreamweaver AIR Extension. The site works very well in all respects except for the part where we have high resolution images and zip files available for download. The download links refuse to do anything, and right-click (PC) / ctl-click (Mac) does nto work either.
    I suspect this may be an AIR sandbox/security issue but am I correct and what can I do to fix it?
    Thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to give.
    Martin

    I am now facing the same problem. I wrote a servlet .
    code like this
             response = (HttpServletResponse) faces.getExternalContext().getResponse();
             response.setContentType("application/x-download");
             String agent = request.getHeader("USER-AGENT");
             boolean isIE=false;
            if (null != agent && agent.indexOf("MSIE")!=-1) {
                isIE=true;
            if (isIE) {
                fileName = URLEncoder.encode(fileName, "UTF-8");
            } else {
                fileName = new String(fileName.getBytes("utf-8"), "ISO-8859-1");
            response.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment;filename="+fileName);
            ServletOutputStream os = response.getOutputStream();
            byte b[]=new byte[1024];
            int n;
            while((n=in.read(b))!=-1){
                os.write(b,0,n);
           in.close();
           os.close();
    and i open a new window refer to above jsp ,also i set a breakPoint at os.close(),the program has passed through,but nothing happened in the window.
    If i use IE or FF ,the browser will open a small window to allow me select whether open or  save the file.So can anybody give me some advice.Is it because air using webkit engine and the engine does not do this kind of job?
            Thanks.

  • I right clicked on a image and now all my thumbnails are missing, how do I get them back?

    I was in Facebook trying to delete/block an image from my likes (I wanted to delete the like but couldn't so I thought I would just block the image) Anyway what I clicked on in the right click box took all my thumbnails off of Facebook. I would like to get them back, how do I do this?
    thank you

    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    Check the image exceptions: Tools > Options > Content: Load Images: Exceptions<br />
    You can see the permissions for the server in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions<br />
    *A way to see which images are blocked is to click the favicon (<i>Site Identification</i> icon) on the left side of the location bar.
    *A click on the "More Information" button will open the Security tab of the "Page Info" window (also accessible via "Tools > Page Info").
    *Open the <i>Media</i> tab of the "Page Info" window.
    *Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow key.
    *If an image in the list is grayed and there is a check-mark in the box "<i>Block Images from...</i>" then remove that mark to unblock the images from that domain.

  • PPI of image and PPI of hardware device

    I may be getting closer to understanding PPI and
    the comment that some of you state that it does
    not matter.
    When I think of a pixel, I have been thinking or
    referring to the actual pixel of a hardware device
    that gets struck by an electron beam (for CRT's)
    On the other hand, I believe non-hardware types,
    are referring to image pixels (which is probably
    the correct way to think)
    Thus one image pixel could be displayed using
    four device pixels.
    It seems to me that you would want to match up
    the number image pixels with the number of device
    pixels in order to prevent flickering while
    Panning and Zooming.
    The above is not statements of knowledge but
    was meant in the form of a question for
    input thought.

    Hi Gary,
    > When I think of a pixel, I have been thinking or
    > referring to the actual pixel of a hardware device
    > that gets struck by an electron beam (for CRT's)
    A look at http://www.howstuffworks.com/ might help explain the
    differences between display pixels & image PPI & how a CD/DVD player works.
    > Thus one image pixel could be displayed using
    > four device pixels.
    One image pixel = one device pixel. A higher bit per pixel image just
    gives the display device the ability to fine tune each display pixel.
    IOW you can display a 16 bit image in a larger size than a 4 bit image
    before you loose details. A 320 x 200 image even at 32 bits will still
    be pixelated when displayed at 1280 x 1024.
    > It seems to me that you would want to match up
    > the number image pixels with the number of device
    > pixels in order to prevent flickering while
    > Panning and Zooming.
    Think about what you are asking the display software & hardware to do
    while Panning and Zooming. If you are using a smooth pan/zoom you are
    asking the software to interpolate an almost infinite number of images &
    feed those images to the display at the devices refresh rate or faster.
    The flicker is probably caused by the software feeding data faster than
    the device refresh rate & you are getting blank pixels on the display.
    This usually isn't a problem of the display device (TV, monitor) but is
    usually caused by not enough memory or memory that is to slow in the
    device creating the image (CD/DVD player). This happened often on the
    older Dos computers with 8 bit video cards. :-)
    You can get around the flicker problem by using PSE to create closeup
    images of the people you want to zoom in on. Just fade from the group
    image to each of the closeup images. That way you can enhance the close
    up images by smoothing pixelation & even painting in missing or lost
    parts of the person.

  • Circular scanning and smoothing

    hi!
    I am working on an image processing program. The project involves capturing images of Haidinger intereference fringes and analysing them. I am able to acquire the image, and can find the center of the fringes using a Vision script and a low pass frequency filter. Attached are two images, the captured image and the image after it is filtered. Now that I have found the center, I need to smooth it more and then perform a best fit. Vision smoothing filters such as average and median do not significantly improve the image. I want to perform a circular smoothing of the image using a median filter. Since I am working with an IMAQ image file, as a starting approach I considered converting the image to a matrix of coordinates. After that convert the x y coordinates to polar coordinates and sort them based on angle and radius, followed by a processing step that performs a median smoothing on all the pixels of each radius. However I think this method is quite inefficient, and I need to process images as quickly as possible.
    Another possibility along those same lines. All of the images are the same size, so if I were to design a vi that used the described method to find what order pixels would be processed around an chosen center point, I could store that order in a constant array. During actual processing, once the true center point is found, the offset from previously chosen center point could be calculated and this offset could then be applied to the constant array, reducing processing time per image.
    Has anyone done a project at all similar to this and have any suggestions for any other ways I could approach this? Any suggestions would be appreciated, even just relating to how I could best make use of labview to approach this. I have been working with Labview for about 8 months, so I am still just learning some of the finer points of using labview.
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    Hi Maclean, thanks for replying
    My complete application is as follows: An optic is placed in front of a instrument that captures images of the haidinger intereference fringes (see first post attachments for examples). The fringes are being captured from a small area of the optic, and since the optic is on a rotating base, when it is rotated the fringes represent different areas of optics. The slight height fluctuation causes the fringes (the rings) to move in and out. My final application needs to acquire images from the frame grabber, display them in realtime on the front panel, while still analysing images as quickly as possible to monitor the motion of the rings from frame to frame. To do this I need to effectively track the changes in the image.
    Currently my program does the following:
    1) Acquires images from camera and stores them in a circular array, displaying them as they are acquired.
    2) A parallel while loop takes the most recently acquired image from the array, makes a copy of it (so that both loops wont deal with the same data) and then proceeds to analyse it as follows:
        i) A frequency filter is used to clean up the image, and the center of the rings is determined.
        ii) I would like to perform a best fit on the pattern here, because the fringes pattern corresponds to a known equation. If i can fit the fringe locations to this
           equation, I can effectively determine the thickness of the optic.
    In order to do the fit, I need to make the data more uniform (what I called smoothing (since I am new to image processing I make up my own terms)), in a circular way though. So when I said a circular filter, what I meant was that I am grouping pixels based on their distance from the center (into circles), and then I am averaging those rings (orignally I was going to do a median fit followed by an averaging). This effectively reduces the 2D picture to a 1D line, which is much easier to fit to the known function.
    So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for an effective way to approach this "circular smoothing." Currently my method for grouping pixels is an array of arrays (actually an array of clusters that each contain an array) and the first array in indexed by radius, then the second array contains all the pixels that radius away from the center. This way I can just process the array in a loop 'circle' by 'circle.' I was wondering if there were any labview functions or alternative methods I am unaware of that might improve the efficiency of this process.
    Thanks
    Jeff

  • "Images Removed for Security Reasons"

    Heya:
    I'm new to Safari, just upgrading from an older OS9 Mac to a new one.
    Can someone tell my why oh why I get e-mails from eBay or go to certain sites (including Apple) where images are removed with a big rectangle saying "images removed for security reasons"?????
    In preferences I have show images checked....and I don't have anything weird in "security"....
    or is this an e-mail problem?
    any help would be appreciated....
    Thanks!

  • Encrypted Disk Image and Backup

    If one uses Apple’s Disk Utility to create an encrypted disk image, what happens when SuperDuper, Time Machine, or any other backup utility is running while the (unencrypted) image is mounted on the desktop?
    Are both the encrypted image and the unencrypted data transferred to the backup device? Or is just the secure encrypted data copied to the destination?
    Nothing urgent on this, just curious. Thank you!

    I've played around with this a little. As best I can tell, when cloning an entire HD volume both CCC and SuperDuper will always copy an image file (.dmg, .sparsebundle, etc) that resides that on that HD, whether or not that file's disk image is mounted at the time. However the contents of the mounted disk image volume will not be copied separately, and so If the disk image is encrypted, no unencrypted content will get transferred this way. However as mentioned in the SuperDuper link above, it's better to unmount the image in any event, in order to ensure that the underlying .dmg or .sparsebundle file gets copied faithfully.
    If you want to copy the contents of a mounted disk image with CCC or SuperDuper, you can do so as a completely separate procedure from copying the HD. If you first mount the image (giving a password if it was encrypted), that mounted image will appear as an independent volume in the "source list" of CCC or SuperDuper, and you can choose that volume as a source for the copy procedure. You would need to designate a different target volume as well, so as not to overwrite your HD clone. If the disk image was encrypted and you deliberately copy its mounted image separately in this fashion, the resulting files on the target will not be encrypted.

    Go to the ''Media'' tab of that Page Info window.
    Select the first image and scroll down though the list with the Down arrow.

  • ASA5512-K9 CX AVC and Web Security Essentials

    I have purchased the ASA5512-K9 with the CX AVC and Web Security Essentials L-ASA5512-AW1Y as recommended by a Cisco pre-sales representative and my reseller for my environment.  I had previously believed from the documentation on the Cisco site that all X generation models had the CX software included on them in the state that they are sold.  Now in trying to configure the ASA5512, and with further reading of the setup documentation, I have discovered that I do not have the capability to access the CX functionality with this model 'as is', and this combination does not appear to be appropriate.  It appears that the CX software module is not actually included on the ASA5512-K9 model, but rather only on the ASA5512-SSD120-K9 model.  Could someone please verify for me that I have understood this correctly?
    If it is, then please advise if I should exchange the ASA5512-K9 for an ASA5512-SSD120-K9 to get the combination of this subscription license and ASA model working.  Am I correct in that the ASA5512-K9 model does not have a solid state drive on it already and so I can not download and install the CX software on it?   As an alternative, is it possible to purchase a Cisco solid state drive seperately, plug it into the ASA5512-K9, download the CX software, and then install it on this new drive in the ASA5512-K9?
    I would greatly appreciate guidance from anyone who has experience with the ASA5512 line and CX.  I was unable to find help from Cisco pre-sales and technical support for this question via phone or online chat, and my reseller has been unable to answer this question for me so far.

    Hi!
    According to many documents, i.e. page 3 of http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps5708/ps5709/ps6120/white_paper_c11-727394.pdf
    An SSD is required to run AVC and WSE on ASA 5500-X Series Next-Generation Firewalls. SSD bundles have the ASA CX software image pre-loaded, and customers receive a free 60-day trial of the WSE and AVC subscriptions.
    An SSD bundle is ASA5512-SSD120-K8 (or  ASA5512-SSD120-K9). So If you happened to buy ASA5512-K9 - Then you definitely need this SSD option -  ASA5500X-SSD120=.
    Cheers.
