Crs upgrade
How to upgrade a Oracle 10g CRS in ORacle 5 node Rac?
i search on net and found some doc for it.
But want to know its pros and crons of upgrading a CRS and 101% accurate way of doing it.
Indeed this turned out to be a Java issue.
We tried to force the matter by installibng the latest JRE on the server. This made not much difference initially, and we went to TAC.
The TAC engineer asked us to put in the relevant path to JAva.exe in the system %path% variable and then to ensure that path also featured the java library directory in the root of the upgrade media.
This allowed us to work the upgrade tool, and we could see the button to click when BARS completed.
However, after following the upgrade procedure to the letter, the upgrade worked, but failed to retain the data from the 3.5 system.
At that point I decided to uninstall CRS 3.5 and remove all relevant directories from the server, then installed 4.0(4) successfully. All I had to do was upload scripts, convert using the CRS 4 editor and upload prompts etc.
We are now ready to go live.
My advice is to do the uninstall and install 4.0 on as clean as possible a platform you can.

Oracle 10g to 11g Upgrade - Oracle Clusterware problem
Oracle10g RAC (2 Nodes) RHEL 4 64bit
Hi All,
I have began the procedure for upgrading Oracle Clusterware to 11g. However, during the install OUI was giving me certain error messages like it couldn't transfer the OUI installlogs to node 2. Well, I kept pushing through the install and after I ran the last rootupgrade script on node 2 it gave me the following error:

So I ignored the error for the time being and after that I checked the status of crs and it gave me the following:

I am thinking that all of this is caused by the various issues I had with the install. If I am incorrect, then please let me know. If it is true, I would like to know if there are any 11g docs on how to clean up a failed clusterware upgrade. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on any of the situations I am having.
Thank youHi Chandra,
Did CVU report any problems before the upgrade? No, there were no errors reported by CVU before the upgrade.
I don't there is note out there for cleaning 11g CRS
install...and I think can very use the 10g CRS note -
239998.1.Yeah I might have to go that way.
I have both the 11g CRS install and upgrade from 10g
to 11CRS at
http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2007/08/oracle-11g-rac-
install-on-red-hat-50.html
and
http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2008/02/oracle-10g-crs-
upgrade-to-11g-crs.html
see if it helps.Yup, your guide is very simple, clear and error proof :) That's how mine when pretty much except right around 75% I started getting these strange errors of files not being able to be transferred to node 2. Anyways, it shouldn't be a problem as none of those errors were configuration related...or else I would have a messed up cluster.
Well, I actually rebooted both machines and now the whole CRS stack is up!! So I guess I am ok. We'll just have to wait and see.
Thanks for your help Chandra...I always appreciate it. -

CristianHi Cristian,
Maybe you have already solved your issue.
Have you checked if the necessary pfile (initdevdb1.ora) is in the directory /01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/dbs? if it is there then you might need to check the permissions on the path.
I suppose you did the upgrade using a new binary home for your 10.2.0.3 version where the required parameter file(s) is/are still there in $OLD_ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
If so, then copy them from there to the new $ORACLE_HOME/dbs then give it a try.
Hope this helps.

hello all.
i have installed oracle 10g R2 10.2.0.1 and clusterware . i need to upgrade both CRS and RAC database to 10.2.0.4.
oracle crs upgrade to 10.2.0.4 uses same patch which we use to upgrade oracle database 10.2.0.4. or do we have separte patches for oracle CRS. can i patch oracle CRS and oracle RAC on binaries with out creating database.
appreaciate your supportWhat do the patch release notes say?
Oh, you don't read them!
Kindly 'do the needful' and read them.

10205 RDBMS home with 10204 CRS
Hi friends,
We have a requirement to upgrade the CRS and ASM and Rdbms home from 10204 to 10205. For this purpose, I am not trying to upgrade the existing 10204 homes directly. Instead I am trying to install a new base version:
1) Install base 10201 for ASM and Rdbms home (on same server where 10204 crs asm rdbms is there)
2) upgrade base 10201 ASM and Rdbms to 10205 using patchset 8202632
3) Upgrade CRS later during the weekend.
My reason for doing this in this manner is so that I can save time during the actual outage window by just upgrading CRS at that time. But when I get to the point of applying the patchset, I get following error:
Checking Oracle Clusterware Version
The active version of oracleclusterware is not 10.2.0.5. Recommendation: you must upgrade all nodes of the Oracle Clusterware to 10205...you must upgrade all nodes of the Oracle Clusterware to 10205 before proceeding with this installation.
What I have done is that I have checked the User Verified checkbox and proceeded with the installation and upgrade to 10205. So my question would be:
Is what I did correct ?
Should I have just stopped the installation and proceed with CRS upgrade first and then do this upgrade ?
Will it cause any issues later like ASM or Rdbms home not working later when CRS is actually upgraded to 10205 ?
Thanks in advance.I was checking this note "Oracle Clusterware - ASM - Database Version Compatibility (Doc ID 337737.1)
" and "The Oracle Grid Infrastructure/Clusterware (CRS) version must be the highest version down to the 4th digit in the possible combinations at all times. This means you have to upgrade Grid Infrastructure/Clusterware first."
I agree with this but I am not going to use the 10205 aSM and RDBMS homes until after the CRS itself is upgraded to 10205 on weekend. So on weekend all homes will be having 10205 only. Its only now when installing it separately that I need to know if its ok to do like this or if any issues....
Thanks, -

Install and Create Database Using ASM Restart
I'm performing a clean install of Oracle grid + database (11gR2) on Oracle Linux R5U6. Both installs seem to go just fine. The ASM processes start and run just fine. But, when I try to create a database, I get the following errors:

Any ideas?

At the moment I dont have oracle enterprise manager (OEM DB console) on the server neither I have Oracle DB Console service on this cluster. Could anyone please let me know how can I install/run OEM on this environment. I have 2 node cluster Oracle 11g R2 on windows 2008 R2.
Any help would be appreciated.

How can I remove incorrect entry in OCR
Hi all
During a CRS upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11gR2 I noticed some errors relating to some values that should not have been there! This might have been due to an incorrectly removed node or database previously.
Anyway, the output from ocrdump looks like this

Many thanksThanks again Sebastian - that really helped.
If you dont mind one last question, I seem to have some orphan entries in OCR.

Any ideas how I can remove them from OCR? If I were to try crs_unregister, I am not sure what resource name to use because they don't show up in crs_stat.

Hi,
I have J2EE java application deployed on Weblogic 8.1 Server SP6. It is using Multi Pool of Weblogic Application Server to call Package Stored Procedure on DB 10.2.0.4.
During the session initiate on JDBC Pool Weblogic, Raise ORA-01013 (user requested cancel of current operation) on Stored Procedure Log, while on the same session pool Weblogic Application receives ORA-03111 –( A break was processed on the communications channel but was not properly handled by Net8 software. This is an internal error message not usually issued.)
The problem has not systematic behavior, is Random!!!With what I have generally seen is if you have web application, there administrators configure something called timeout factor where by if they do not get the output of a particular query/procedure within a specified time they cancel the query hence receive ORA-1013.
Now if that is to be believed true in your case and you say it was working for 10.1.0.3 but not for 10.1.0.4. Given all the other condition true.
I suggest you manually run that query/stored procedure in 10.1.0.3 and 10.1.0.4 and test the response time/wait events/explain plan. If you find any difference then check why there is a difference and what can be done to reduce the response time of the procedure/query.

Cannot start dbconsole in Oracle Personal 11g
I just installed Oracle Personal, but the command emctl start fbconsole will not run - it gives a not found error message.
IT says OC4J Configuration issue followed by a long path and I followed the path to OC4J_DBCONSOLE.
the file not found is referring to that path plus the folder name continues which is in the format my host name : my SID
I have no such folder under OC4J_DBCONSOLE I have 4 folders under it that are spplication-deployments, config, connectors, and META-INF.
Bsaed on the long error message it looks like the last folder in the path is actually "j2ee" and the rest beginning with OC4J_DB_CONSOLE plus hostname plus SID is the missing file name.
Can anyone tell me how to correct this? How does this long file get created? Here is the output I got from running emva...drop & create
Thank you for looking at it

we have 3 node cluster HP -UX 10.2.0.3.0. We have upgraded the CRS to 10.2.0.5.0 on all the 3 nodes. 2 of the nodes are up and running. But on the 3rd node the CRS does not startup.
Below is the error we see in the log file:
2010-11-28 08:10:33.806: [ EVMD][1] Initializing OCR
2010-11-28 08:10:34.668: [ EVMD][1] Active Version from OCR:10.2.0.5.0
2010-11-28 08:10:34.668: [ EVMD][1] Exiting, Active Version greater than Software Version
2010-11-28 08:10:34.668: [ EVMD][1][PANIC] EVMD exiting; Version Compatibility check failed
2010-11-28 08:10:34.669: [ EVMD][1] Done.
But the query software version gives the right one:
$ crsctl query crs activeversion
CRS active version on the cluster is [10.2.0.5.0]
$ crsctl query crs softwareversion
CRS software version on node [xxxxx] is [10.2.0.5.0]
Can anyone please help me in solving this issue.
ThanksHi,
post the output of
crsctl query crs activeversion
crsctl query crs releaseversion
crsctl query crs softwareversion
